Post Metroid related things here
My most favourite series of all time,
Apparently 4chin only opens this image in another tab
Reminder if there are no shoulder fins, it's shit.
>We will never get another 2D because of him
Fusion could have been great if it wasn't for the stupid monologue and locking you out of everything everywhere you go. But Other M has NO redeeming qualities.
More sexy suits!
Other M's gameplay wasnt what ruined it, anon. The game itself is decent bordering on good.
The story was so fucking abysmal as to drag everything else about it into the shitter and drown out all the stuff it did right.
no wiiu metroid game
Why did I buy this piece of shit
Gameplay was pretty bad. It took what was bad about Fusion and enhanced it to the Nth degree. I wouldn't even call it decent personally. Switching between third and first person was always disorienting and jumping never felt right.
This is supposed to be a GOOD thread
We don't need shitty ZSS
Honestly though, the Hunters zero suit was actually
I mentioned this in a thread a while back but do you guys think the Mechs in Blast Ball are based on this concept art from Prime 3? If they are then
D E E P E S T L O R E
Because from the get-go both fan artists and even official designers fucked up the shoulders and missunderstand them
For some reason they make arms start from the mid-section of the balls instead of from where the arms would actually go
Pic related is a good design of how it should be to make sense
Gameplay was shit.
I dont care about story in Metroid and I think that most Metroid games are nothing amazing, but Other M was just bad.
The dodge gave you way too many invincibility frames and recovered too quickly so you could just spam it nonstop and be invincible.
The missile mechanic was AWFUL. It wouldve worked if they used the nunchuck but they insisted on Wiimote controls alone which was stupid.
Also 3D movement with a fucking D-Pad.
Favorite Zero Mission
Bad (outside of Other M) original. I want to live it but rooms look so samey that it's annoying trying to map everything out. I respect the fuck out of it for a NES game but I can't ever go back to it.
Didnt say the switching was what was right. But the not quite 2D not quite 3D 'sidescroll' was actually a neat twist on an old classic design. The ability to switch from 1P to 3P is neat but how it was handled was ass. Good mechanic bad execution.
I liked the missile mechanic. A lot, actually.
The dodge mechanic gave a lot of wiggle room but new ideas can be fine tuned. Thats one that could actually be fairly awesome if the training wheels were dialed back a bit.
I liked the gameplay of Other M for what it did right. The boss fights were decent, the music was good (best Ridley theme IMO). The map layout was good.
If you take what Other M did right, give it some polish and utterly forget its story ever happened, you could make another Samus-centered Metroid game and have it be well received.
>I liked the missile mechanic. A lot, actually.
Why? It rooted you in place and turning the wiimote is clumsy as fuck.
The gameplay generally has no redeeming elements.
You're being a contrarian cunt here.
>getting the drop on Samus
>she literally has more vision spectrums available than they do
>pred optic camo doesnt mask thermal
>samus literally has a thermal visor
Itd be a smoking crater a hundred yards away.
To me it didn't do anything right. Yeah 3rd person to 1st was neat but HORRIBLY done. The action really felt bad. Jumping was bad. Boss fights wasn't that fun to me. Getting locked out over and over was even worse than in Fusion. The dodge like that other Anon said was too easy to do and made everything boring. The whole "can't use this because my not boyfriend told me not too" was one of the worse excuse in a Metroid game. Naw to me there's not one positive thing to really say about Other M. You might have enjoyed some of it but I can't think of anything from Other M I want to see again.
Because it required thought to use in close quarters (e.g Ridley, volcano hydra boss thing) and allowed you to not have to be stingy with your missiles. IF you could find the opening to use it. Options are a good thing.
Turning the remote is only clumsy if you have fucking flippers.
Anyone have this old wallpaper? It was a black and blue minimalistic one with black Samus in the foreground with a white Metroid behind her, and the shape the Metroid's claws fit into the shape of her shoulders.
I used to have it before my hard drive imploded and now I can't find it again.
I find it strange how metroid gets threads so often, but series like Mario or zelda are a rarity
(Unless you count peach or Zelda waifu threads.)
I ain't complaining, metroid is great.
thanks anon, i made it myself
chykka! front page!!!
Excited, but afraid of becoming TOO excited.
Personally I think it looks cooler inverted.
Quick Google lead me to this. This more along the lines of what you were thinking?
I hope it's like a 3D metroid
Not like Prime, because the game is confirmed 3rd person
I just mean an open mysterious map fill of secrets and bosses
Josheph staten, prime devs, sounds interesting unless infafune mucks it up
I pretty much agrre with most of this. I understood what they wanted to do with the story, it was just done badly.
Gameplay was decent. I think it was a good foundation to build upon. Work on a bigger map, new upgrades, better mechanics, remove the crappy pixel hunt.
It's not this horror we need to forget. Look at what was done wrong from an objective view and work on improving it.
>from the creators of Metroid Prime
Isn't it just a few creative heads? Plus Keiji Inafune is working on it too, right? I mean, between shilling and working on multiple different kickstarter projects already.
The zero suit samus threads are pretty atrocious, I guess that's a good filter for shitposts
I'm not sure why I have this saved or if there's any real context or joke here, but this is a quality image.
what would you think of a Metroid 1 remake, but instead of the statues in ZM, they kept the similar looking areas for you to get lost in
You could add a map system and everything, but you could still explore
>Still no talk about Federation Force since E3
God that was such an amazing fucking thing. It's like the whole internet unified under one thing and that being to destroy that game.
people decided his surprised look and slight smile was hilarious for putting into images
I'm going to need all of you to only post about my game, as it is clearly the best in the series.
Any objections, nerds?
You know what really pisses me off about Federation Force? It's a really good concept.
A spin off kind of in the style of Republic Commando? Hell yeah, I'd have eaten that up. but instead we got this overly cutesy thing that didn't match the Metroid's tone at all, with graphics barely looking better than Hunters from 10 years ago.
Plus a soccer game, for some reason.
She was so much better in prime 1
And then of course, in Corruptions we got this which I think looks pretty cool
Generic anime style samus just doesn't do it for me and feels like pandering
Why not anon? I just want to milk a couple of horny anons
It's obvious that Nintendo is just being cheap on everything right now. They just want to ride the wave until NX. And really no one would really care about Federation Force if Nintendo didn't ignore the series for so long. The game is basically a Prime version of Triforce Heroes. The difference is there are still Nintendo love for Zelda so when that came out people where just shrugging going "might be neat".
The only problem with Federation Force is the timing of its release. We're in a Metroid drought after the worst game of the franchise, so something like FF makes Nintendo look like they're doing anything but trying to please the fans.
If FF came out between Prime 2 and 3 then nobody with any sense would have any problems with it. It'd just be a little extra between other good games being released.
I know what's supposed to be happening here. Every time I see it I can only see Dark Samus knocking her out of the way, and taking a blast for her though.
I should go look to see if there's any Dark Samus x Samus comics. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'd be surprised if there isn't any.
There was talks about a cancelled Metroid game for the 3DS so chances are they planned FF to complement it as a sidegame.
Now the maingame is gone and we're left with this filler that pisses people off.
I don't 100% know about that. Stylistically it's a weird departure from the past games with its super deformed designs, which, after Prime Hunters, is odd, since that game was perfectly capable of pulling off more standard designs.
Plus, just look at it. It doesn't look that much better than Hunters. Hunters was a fucking feast for the eyes back in 2005, and was a great display of what the DS was able to do. Federation Force? It's just taking that cop out chibi design model that so many games now use on the system because it's easier.
Same. Played the original recently wanting to get into the whole series, but it was a pain to push through. Glad I got through it though, at least I can say I beat it.
Zero Mission was a HUGE improvement upon the original, and I enjoyed playing as Solid Samus during the Zero Suit missions.
That's outdated and kind of inaccurate.
Is this concept art? They gave her a damn fine booty in these.
This one is accurate, but we need to go bigger.
OH FUCK THERE ARE TWO OF THEM
There was also that Metroid Dread or whatever it was going to be called. The problem is that Sakamoto is a guy that loves changing things in his games. I mean he looked at Mario/Wario Land and turned it into Wario Ware which turned into Rhythm Heaven. He most likely got bored with Metroid and thought he could do something new with Fusion and Other M. But since the reaction was completely negative he washed his hands of it. And also he's not really willing to hand the game off to someone. And I feel Retro doesn't want to make another Prime game.
>That scrote-shriveling chill when seeing this for the first time
>Orpheon looks vaguely like a Parasite
>And I feel Retro doesn't want to make another Prime game.
They know the Prime series was lightning in a bottle. They cannot capture it again, and don't want to piss off their fanbase trying.
>my opinions are facts because this picture says so!
>if im wrong how do you explain muh feelingz
REMODEL BOTH OF THEIR ASSHOLES
The ability to see in more than a 90 degree angle.
Given that her pauldrons were designed by the same people that made the visor, they should be made of a material that wouldn't block thermal/infared at the least, so she should have at least partial vision.
Guess we should be lucky 2 and 3 wasn't complete shit. I mean 1 was damn near perfect so making 2 sequels that was pretty good was great on them.
But yeah Prime is out and Sakamoto doesn't want anything to do with it. Which means sadly the best we could get is spin off things like FF. It's just sad it was made in a time where Nintendo was just making cheap quick games until the NX shows up.
fusion > super > zero mission > prime 2 > prime > metroid 2 > prime 3 > metroid
There took a massive risk with Prime 1 if you think about it. It was the first Metroid game in almost a decade, the first Metroid game after Super Metroid even, and changing it to first person was something that could have gone really badly.
If they can do that though, and turn it into one of the most beloved games in the franchise, and on the Gamecube as a whole, I think they could probably do it again.
I mean it's not like they've gone down in quality. Their Donkey Kong games are solid.
If master ridely catches you on a federation holoimage board he's going to execute you
>anything better than Super
>fusion better than P1
>Alternate universe where the game centers around the Space Pirates trying to stop the Federation and Chozo descendants, and Ridley is the protagonist
>Opponents are primarily Amazonian women in power armor instead of space pirates in power armor
I could live with this.
DID SOMEONE SAY
You forgot something anon.
>We will never get another 2D because of him
Yeah your right we will never see another "2D" Metroid but that doesn't mean we won't see a "2.5D" Metroid in the near future.
>Sakamoto doesn't want anything to do with it
Sakamoto is still in charge of traditional Metroid, plus Takahashi said that they were planning a traditional Metroid back at e3 2014 so I expect to see a traditional Metroid announced at this years e3. Federation Force is just Metroid's Triforce Hero's to keep us waiting.
no hyper preg yet? i'm disappoint /co/
This one seems off for some reason. Was it redrawn?
Edgelord aside, black/red is a god tier color combination
Different. Instead of 1 world (kind of 2 worlds in Prime 2 if you could Dark World) it's broken up into different planets. One of my problems with it is how easy it is. Hyper mode is damn near broken and I was able to explore everything without much thought. I found it better than 2 (mostly because I hated Dark World) but no where close to 1.
What do you guys think of this game?
It was my first Metroid game.
I love the dark suit, but something needs to be done with those shoulders.
PED is good too.
Sequel. Fucking. When?
I like how those effects there, from what I assume is the suit disappearing as it does in the games, makes it look like Samus just posed and made all her outer clothes explode.
God, I miss this series so much. Are there, like, any mods to the original Tombraider games that replace Lara with ZSS? I just want to fight monsters and explore ancient ruins with my girl again...
>Metroid threads have been reduce to lewdumping
Goobergate really did ruin /v/. Can't even talk about Samus without needing to strip her naked.
I was reading up on sales figures and realized the super metroid wasn't even a hit in japan. No wonder they killed the franchise.
Prime 2. It's sleek enough on the legs for her to appear mobile, but still bulky enough to give her that tank-like appearance. The other suits are either too bulky or too lean compared to the original design. The green Highlights also do a better job of carrying the color of her visor throughout the body. Although, if there was a PED suit that was all orange and lacked the GF logo on the chest, that one would probably be my favorite.
you mean all the bait that everyone else ignored?
in a thread that was already dead and falling past page 8?
how fucking new are you?, metroid threads have had their fair share of bait, and retards like you fall for it
>Nintendo does it with Metroid
>fans lambaste it and call it inexcusable
>Sega does it with Sonic
>fans defend it and call it okay
sonic was never really good
and even so they get mainline games every fucking YEAR
make sonic fans wait a decade and they would have a WORSE reaction considering they are weapon grade liquid autism under heat and pressure already
>fans defend it and call it okay
Literally never happens anymore. The hateboner for Sonic is so great that time has gone backwards and rewritten itself so that not even the classic games people have fellated for decades are considered enjoyable anymore. Case in point: >>322603884
>I didn't say the first few where bad, you idiot
Literally all you said was they were never good. How stupid are you?
>Literally never happens anymore.
Everywhere I go people are actually praising shovelware diarrhea like Sonic Runners and unironically defending Sonic 4.
but the modern shit is not
and my point was they get regular mainline installments regardless of quality, and so their reaction to consuming shit is incomparable to fed force being instantly rejected
DEE, YOU BITCH, YOU GODDAMN BITCH, GET THE HELL OUT OF THIS THREAD!
When I first saw the dark suit I thought it looked kind of dumb but I've grown to like it.
Only recent spin off I can think of for Sonic is Sonic Boom and the only part of that I've seen anyone defend are the comic and show and even then they say they're not that good, just the best Boom has to offer.
>pseudo isometric 3rd person Metroid with Shadow of Mordor style gameplay
>Samus is sent to Chozo planet #173639, where huge Pirate forces are amassing, and has to discover their plans for galaxywide tuuube domination and stop it/report to the Feds
>using her Metroid and X dna, the GF has developed a new short range grapple beam function/scan visor combo that can drain information from pirates who you discover by working your way through the ranks, you're even able to dominate them for a time to attempt to have them discover information for yourself, but they may be discovered and thus improve security for the area.
> Huge sprawling Tomb Raider esque ruins with native beasts you can navigate for upgrades, as well as features retrofitted from unique high ranking pirates
>Horror elements with the titular Metroids, and other hunters from previous games with their own agendas of looting/aiding the pirates/different methods of acting out your own missions
>plot is there but you discover it for yourself scanning/infiltrating the planet and it's denizens
>it's all just a big Palatine style orchestrated plot by the GF
>the pirates appear in almost every iteration they have in the past, every one having a unique set of spliced features and abilities
Should Megaman and Samus love or kill each other?
melee combat in metroid when
Mega Man never hurt any humans and he's generally helpful so Samus would probably not give a fuck about him. She'd probably admire him like she admires her gun, silently and without addressing it.
Mega Man might have heard of Samus' feats and think she's pretty cool. I can't see them interacting at all, unless they were both thrown into a hostile situation together and they needed to use each other as weapons.
Eh, a crossover between them wouldn't really work.
Wait was there a point where Samus wasn't Samus, just a normal slightly uncomfortable woman instead of "the hunter"? I could be wrong but I thought the Chozo turned her into a stoic killing machine before she even hit puberty
>normal slightly uncomfortable woman
I think "The hunter" had a haircut and was unused to human males.
>stoic killing machine before she even hit puberty
That's purely head canon.
That makes me wonder: Why is that head canon more commonly inferred and believed, even among casuals, than whatever the actual canon is?
Was it Samus' presence/body language/actions that conveyed something (to people without autism who need to be directly told everything) that wasn't really intended?
