I wasn't being bad i was playing co-op and went for dinner while my teammate killed me over and over
that thing scared me first time I saw it (that was back in 2009, didn't know really know anything about the game)

There's Litterally 0 penalty for death in Dark Souls other than temporarily losing the ability to invade/coop and kindle bonfires, which can all be redeemed with one humanity.
