One day somebody I didn't know at first added me, invited me to run a 1v1 game on a well known RTS.

Game begins, he asks me why I removed him.

He won the match...

I would probably become that guy, that's why I don't add people.

his mother recently died and he didn't take it so well and then he yelled at people at a family meeting

that was around the time he stopped calling my friend

no idea what he's doing now, maybe he's killed himself

how do people even go on living like this?

I love socially awkward people. An old school friend of mine worked at a place a couple of years ago and I heard he constantly asked a cute female coworker if she wanted to come over to his place. They never flirted, she never made any sign that she was into him - he just kept asking her, maybe because he thought they hit it off. The guy was chubby back then and all in all just didn't look very handsome or manly. The typical gamer type. I don't know what he was thinking. Did he think he honestly had a chance?

Maybe they're scared. To people I don't know I tend to answer with short answers which may seem that I'm not interested in talking to them. But that's not true, I'm just bad at smalltalk.

Even if you are scared you could at least reply hello back when someone greets you. There's a limit to social awkwardness where it becomes entirely your fault.
