If you're doing stylised artstyle(whether it's cartoon or anime, doesn't matter), you're doing it to save on polygons. It's a good method, also used by many indie devs. The only requirement it there is for it to work is to apply ANY form of AA, otherwise it'll look like shit(still, at least they aren't doing thick outlines - it would look hilariously bad with those) as the entire point of this artstyle is to look sharp and clean. While I can understand why they've didn't slapped good AA on PS3 version, the PS4 screens(assuming 1080p screens are from PS4) are still jaggy as fuck and you're not going to shit me they didn't had computing power to put FXAA or MSAA x 4 on it.

This is pretty much aesthetics 101 anon.
