its an accurate assessment of Civ5s meta though, whoever finds the best ruins, and has the best location usually snowballs ahead of the other players. The entire meta for early game is all based around exploring for RNG freebies the game just gives you. Whoever collects the most RNG freebies usually gets 50-60 turns of advancement by turn 4 and outpace everyone elses

not my choice in MP games, and most people are adamant about playing the standard MP setup of standard speed, standard whatever, 8 civs, 16 CS, ruins on, barbs, etc.

Worth a purchase op.
For single player alone a single game spans longer than most AAA $60 games. Around 10-16 hours in a single game and that's playing with everything set on standard. You can go even larger with games lasting who the fuck knows how long.

This recommendation is based on single player only because I don't care about playing strategy games with other people. If you find any enjoyment out of multiplayer then there you go that's all the added bonus. The game is $12.50 for the complete edition right now on steam. If you like strategy or any previous civilization games you will like civ v.

starting locations are a snowball issue in all civ games though, and its not all that common to have a massive difference in starting location

and heck given nobody plays civ V MP competitively if you get a supremely shitty start (like say full jungle spawn as france or so) just ask everyone if they'd be okay with a reset
if not then well, you can always gang up on whoever gets the best start

ruins should be off for mp though, waaaay to much bullshit is possible with them

I have no friends that even play civ v that I know of so there's the first problem. I could always go on here or even the steam forum but I never bothered.

Civ V with expansons is the best in the series in my opinion, but this is a somewhat controversial opinion
