I still remember when I bought it.

I wanted to go and get Monopoly after seeing it in the Simpsons episode. "Brawl in the Family" where special guest star Delroy Lindo as Gabrial. The episode revolved around the Simpson family getting arrested for Domestic violence (after a game of Monopoly to which I noticed I did not own, but wanted to after this episode) prompting social worker Gabriel to help the family become normal again. But it turns out that the cocktail waitresses Homer and Ned (his next door neighbour) married in Las Vegas (Viva Ned Flanders) show up and a lot of hijinks occurred. I went to to the local shopping mall and wanted to buy Monopoly, and then I saw that this New Super Mario Bros came out. I always enjoyed the original Mario Bros, so a NEW version must be much much better. I picked it up as well, and bought both Monopoly and NSMB. I came home and played Monopoly with two of my brothers but they were not interested so I started NSMB and finished it.

Good game.

I hope if Nintendo continues to put more Mario sidescrollers out they refrain from using the name "new" in the future, it hasn't been "New: since the first 3DS game.

Why is Japan so shit at coming up with nostalgic titles these days between the "New"ified Nintendo sidescrollers, FF7Remake (really, you're putting "Remake" in the release title?) and a bunch of other shit I'm too drunk to think of on account of I'm an alcoholic on New Year's Eve/Day?

Reminds me of the day I bought it.

I had just finished 7th grade, and everyone in the class was going to a swim club to celebrate. However, I didn't have a swimsuit, so my mom took me to a Macy's at a mall near my house on the way home from school. It turns out that Macy's, for whatever reason, doesn't sell bathing suits, so it ended up being a wasted trip. However, the mall we were at had a Gamestop, and my mom and I stopped by so I could get New Super Mario Bros.

All in all, it was a good day, aside from the no bathing suit thing. She eventually found one the next day at Kohl's.

Ahh, that takes me back.

It was my friend John's birthday. Back then, me and John both worked at the same office, so we had a company party. John's favorite type of cake was butterscotch, but the closest thing bakery we went to had was pecan, which John turned out to be fine with. After an entertaining party, we packed up our desks and prepared to go home. John and a few of the younger workers asked me if I wanted to keep the party going and head to a nearby bar, but I had to feed my dog, so I turned them down. On the way home from the office, I stopped by Best Buy and picked up a copy of New Super Mario Bros, as well as a new pair of headphones.

I was going to play this game, but I never did...

The plan was for me to get it during my day off. I was in the Army at the time, as a way to pay for college, and we were all allowed one day to go to a town near the base we were stationed at. My plan was to go and buy New Super Mario Bros. from Circuit City, but other plans got in the way, unfortunately.

new super mario bros was what brought 2D mario games back after being gone for a generation and was really amazing for its time. It's just that it was so positively received nintendo figured "let's do the same thing three more times".
