Both of those build are outdated though, and the game aside from the character models looked like shit on the luminous engine. Also no Kingdom Shader yet.

The left is literally nothing but pre-rendered. They didn't even have actual gameplay yet, they just took Sora animations from KH2 for the 'gameplay bit'. They actually admitted that they announced KH3 a little early and didn't have genuine content to show for it.

They shifted from Luminous engine to Unreal Engine 4, because all the Luminous engine devs were assigned to FFXV to get that done as fast as possible while for KH3 all they had done on Luminous was some of that super early stuff we saw at E3 in 2013 and at D23 in 2013, they figured since they had barely started they would just restart the project on UE4 instead because all Luminous devs were assigned to XV.

I'm pretty sure he didn't overplan, and the whole him moving off of XV and onto 7R was planned years ahead, like 2012 ahead which is the same year FFXV started full development and when Tabata joined as co-director

According to Kitase FF7R was in talks and pre-planning ever since 2012 too, so Nomura and Tabata co directing XV for 2012, 2013 and most of 2014 until a point where they could actually get 7R off the ground, which they confirmed started development in 2014, it lines up with the timing of Nomura leaving XV and 7R starting development

Also that Luminous itself wasn't a finished engine back in 2012 or 2013, while UE4 is finished, that is mostly why they intergrated Luminous devs into XV so that they could finish Luminous while also working on XV
