doge was 2013 cause I have the original doge pics in my reaction folder and the date says 2013
>doge was three years ago
>tfw we used to be able to unironically post memes and greentext
When people are part of a group or consider themselves part of a group they tend to behave with a sort of dynamic. /v/ has become more popular over the years and so the sense of being in a group dwindles, and people behave with less of a dynamic, which leads to even more butting of heads than before. It also leads to a lower entry barrier, since people are less willing to tell someone to go eat fat cocks just for being new, which lets people who have thinner skin have some more say than they did before. In the end it's just how things grow, you either die a colorful and interesting community or you live long enough to see yourself become the internet forum equivalent of cold, bland porridge.
go fuck fat cocks, newfag
Think about how many of the jokes from 4chan in general have leaked to the rest of the internet. Look at what happened to pepe. Look at mfw, tfw, and so on. There's people on 4chan now who mainly go on reddit and tumblr and then 4chan "on the side". It's because of this massive leakage and how people just seemed to accept them and turn them into something else disconnected from the anonymous and weird environment of 4chan boards. Back when troll face went out there wasn't a big interest in visiting 4chan, but now you have places like reddit and imgur having all kinds of 4chan screencaps. There's a blur and there really isn't that much left that's only on 4chan. That's why it's gone downhill.
>tfw the word "meme" itself has become a meme
>tfw made this almost 4 years ago
>we've reached the point where people are having "teehee I'm such an oldfag, remember this meme?" threads over fucking Costanza
I guess this is what I get for being here the better part of a decade.
It's not so much the popularity as the lack of enforcement of lurking. Most of every board's problems would be solved if everyone bothered to lurk.
I wonder if we should've went the /a/ route and become a pack of massive elitists.
i am entirely convinced that half of 4chan users are just spies sent to steal our memes and reciprocate them onto sites like 9gag, twitter, tumblr, and reddit. i bet they're all underage too.
>the word "meme" itself has become a meme
that really defeats the purpose of using it now. maybe i should stop using it.
>tfw you realize you haven't seen a single mention of "ISHYGDDT" in ages
>it's always been terrible
No. Places like /b/ have always been shitholes, but they were our shitholes, there was a sense of camarederie and general irreverence all around that is just slipping away.
Yes. Every board should do it.
Every time I see somebody ask what a board staple meme is and somebody actually answer, or get pissy when people call him a newfag, I die a little inside.
>I wonder if we should've went the /a/ route and become a pack of massive elitists
On the rare occasions that I foray into /a/ even they seem to be lamenting how it's overrun by undesirables, especially, how they put it, by "/v/ermin".
Has /a/ always hated this board?
This is the original and whynne is a faggot trying to cash in on it's success.
>mfw people used to get angry at people for using mfw instead of my face when
It's weird seeing shit that got posted so often and for so long just wither and die. I thought I'd never see the end of troll face, but it just vanished.
Wojak and Pepe seem to be the only memes immune to age.
>i am entirely convinced that half of 4chan users are just spies sent to steal our memes
In a way that is true. People take OC or screencaps from threads and post them on reddit or whatever shithole they have an account to get their points. Sometimes I feel like I'm 100% certain someone is from tumblr or reddit just from the way they write or if they use a specific word anons don't normally use. But of course there's nothing to do there, you can't call them a newfag because they'll go full autism and just write the same back to you, even when several others call the newfag a newfag he still won't admit it.
>that really defeats the purpose of using it now. maybe i should stop using it.
I honestly can't even remember the word being used a couple of years ago.
>mfw deleted pepe folder a couple of months back
Rest in piss.
I don't know how, but the expression in the last panel makes me laugh every time I see it.
/sp/ anno 2010-12 relly was the pinnacle of memecraft
>i am entirely convinced that half of 4chan users are just spies sent to steal our memes and reciprocate them onto sites like 9gag, twitter, tumblr, and reddit.
Have you even heard of /r/4chan? It's a bunch of cunts that do exactly that.
I think the actual, for real, no going back tipping point was the 2011 /v/gas.
there was tons of shitposting afterward and so much exposure to
it was bad before then, but i swear that was when things took a fucking nosedive.
>tfw 4chan is going to end up having more actual normalfag redditors, tumblrtards, etc. than anons
>tfw it's fucking true
I never thought it would happen. Even before the Le Bains crash when anons were saying it was dying it was alive and well, but now you can hardly see a Baneposting thread or reply whenever you go on /tv/.
It's already that when it comes to posting, some anons just lurk without posting, I'd say it's a way bigger amount of people than the ones actually posting. Anons will never die, just evolve
You can blame the bogusmans all you like, but if you think that the home grown cancer isnt a much bigger deal then you dont know shit.
There's some really fucking demented oldfags here.
Many used to have trips but they realized that they can just take off their trip and shit up the board better without it.
And generally speaking 4chans biggest issue is he paranoia and obsession about other places.
You cant have a thread without people shouting SJW, Reddit and Tumblr. The local userbase ruined it all.
Would something like a count for lurking work? A unique visitors count. I feel that it'd outnumber the unique poster count by an order of magnitude, hell even I mostly lurk and have sometimes spend entire days without posting.
so when did you start coming to this shithole?
people didn't say "back to [site]" so often as a method of rebuttal to something they personally disliked
Do you genuinely believe there hasn't been an increase in redditors and tumblrs and so on?
>it's been nearly five years since Constanzaposting began
2013 here mate
and i already barely come here, i almost completely moved to my countries chans because they are more for people like me than this place
i come here only because im afraid i will forget how to speak english
Am I the only who feels like if costanza was 2 or 3 weeks ago and not 5 years?
The unique posters thing works because you're actively sending data to 4chan.
Unique visitors would require 4chan having some kind of cookies or something that requests your data, and that would open up a whole can of worms, so no, probably not.
well constanza was going strong from 2011 all the way till 2015 when he vanished without a trace
every time there is the remembrance of that shit, cancer finds a way to spread that shit out. please don't be that person to bring that shit up ever again. I fucking beg of you. just don't.
Thats the wrong question to ask and part of the problem.
You think people only use 4chan and nothing else?
That was never the case. Its the fucking internet.
You retards are obsessed with labeling the people you dislike so much that you turn the whole place to shit because of it.
this used to make me lose my shit when i'd think of it at work
>See a website being spammed in the comments of one ytmnd
>Decide to look it up
If only people actually followed rule one and two, I would have been free from this.
Feelsguy is a KC creation
Spurdo is a yli creation
4chan only has a right to claim the frog who pees with his pants down all the way, and Baneposting
Everything else has died or will die
Just like EFG did
people here too busy looking to be outraged about dumb shit to laugh at a joke.
in the rare event somebody makes a joke a hundred other people will run it into the ground by repeating it with ever increasingly unfunny variations.
try being more funny
happy new year
this, it gets said often but I can't help but see horseshoe theory all the time in /v/'s reactions to censorship or any kind
>inb4 >/v/ is one person
and you shouldn't care, it's a retarded scapegoat. Yeah there's idiots on Reddit who post here because of the shit they see on r/4chan and they quickly leave.
But Christ before we started scapegoating Reddit we used to call it "Summer"
by the way have you guys heard the one about totalbiscuit and how ironic it is that his life ended at 30 when he spent his life talking about FOV sliders
oh, sorry, that wasn't it, hold on
Oh yeah I remember all the permabans for invoking the ebin gaia boogeyman
Whatever kids, I've been here long enough. People used to not care because Reddit was literally just another website, someone would post a link to something on Reddit and no one gave a shit because it was just a fucking URL.
The only reason you didn't hear of it until rageface comics is because you weren't paying attention. Also never forget those started here.
Honest question: What's the name of your reddit account?
/v/ is so fucking cynical and negative, it literally doesn't matter what games come out, every year is the worst year ever. I hope I never become that way, don't know what I'd do if I couldn't get joy from gaming anymore.
It'll come back, it was inevitable that this would happen with SW, considering /tv/ has some obsession with it. It'll come back, then it'll be drowned out whenever Episode 8 comes out then it'll come back and so on.
also notice how there also no tripfags on /v/ nowadays? We got who? REDS, nep, sauce(dead)pan (namefag) and uhh... who else? I can't remember
I wonder if that part of the reason that /v/ declined
i miss when /v/ was angry and misanthropic in a funny way
now /v/ is just angry and misanthropic in a sad way
my biggest disappointment about the last 5 years is how most people on /v/ have become stupider, make crazy claims related to video games\politics\technology that can be easily refuted by a simple google search but refuse to accept that they're wrong
7 years ago, /v/ was a place where smart people went to act stupid. now it's a place where stupid people go to act stupid
of course eternal september and all that
>I spend my time when not here wallowing in a big pile of shit
>but it's not my fault there's shit all over the place, it's yours!
Why don't you fuck off to whatever other site you use?
>people still blaming declining quality on reddit
it's 2016, reddit made their home here a long time ago. this place is now home to a brand new generation of children growing up on social media. it's really just downhill from here on.
>He joined after the 2010 decade
>Not a permanewfag
remember visible sage, remember 'sage is not a downvote for threads you don't like'
remember no captcha
>have cnn on in background right now
>they're currently doing a story about Shia's "JUST DO IT" video
If you don't want to get banned, don't say you're underage you retarded dumbfuck.
Ah yes the shitflinging because you've been proven wrong. Maybe you should lurk for a bit longer before throwing around your "oldfag" dick, you've got a few more years until you can get in the shower with the big boys.
>every year is the worst year ever.
That's like saying
>every year you're a year older
>I hope I never become that way, don't know what I'd do if I couldn't get joy from gaming anymore.
It's okay, after a couple more years of Call of Duty and FIFA you'll grow out of it.
i've been browsing 4chan since 2007 or so and i started browsing reddit in 2011. i don't think the question of 'what ruined this board' has such a simple and straightforward answer.
Because the other site I use is a relatively slow non-english speaking fighting game board.
Now do you have an actual point or would you rather continue proving what I said about the cancer being homegrown?
All these nostalgiafags and none of you filthy redditors remember getting gets.
>see someone mentioning reddit some years ago on 4chan
>what the fuck this is so unreadable
>go back to 4chan
>don't go on reddit since
>work has floor of meeting rooms named after appropriated by normies memes
>costanza.jpg is one of them
>You will never experience Geass Sunday again
>tfw every other board can get dubs but /v/
This never happened because no one knew what reddit was until ~2010. Fucking digg was more popular than it.
And there were other boogeyman sites pre-reddit. 4chan was never some accepting utopia that didn't care where you came from or what other sites you posted on.
>mfw my sister would not stop playing that shit as well as harlem shake
>I hope I never develop taste
>le /v/ hates video games!
1 hour to the new year and I'm here alone contemplating fapping to a loli thread I saved earlier
there has been some truly shitty memespam in the past.
ayy lmao still infects XCOM threads.
>everyone who didn't post brutal shit and wasn't racist as fuck was called a moralfag/newfag and was told to fuck off
>anyone who posts some brutal/racist shit gets called a bigot/shitlord and told to go back to /pol/
what happened lads
Thank fuck, dub posting devalued the board so hard it's no surprise they had to implement XXX posting and then removed dubs entirely.
I never thought we'd go so far as to run King of Games posting into the ground but hey we did it.
>not being a mega hipster
>posts on 4chan
why the fuck do you want to talk about AAA gaming with the biggest shiteaters of /v/? this place is for discovering and discussing games nobody else gives a shit about
>7 years ago, /v/ was a place where smart people went to act stupid. now it's a place where stupid people go to act stupid
No it wasn't, you were just 7 years younger and stupider.
What's this? Some sort of Ralph Bluetawn knockoff!?!?
WE FOUND THIS MUTHAFUCKIN BOARD!!!1!
FUCK ALL Y'ALL POSTIN' ALL THIS RACIST SHIT!
WE GON PULL A 187 ON YO SERVERS!
WE GON PULL A 187 ON YO MOOT!
AN WE GON PULL A 187 ON ALL Y'ALL SKINNY ASS WHITE MUTHAFUCKAS WHO THINK THEY COOL POSTIN THIS RACIST SHIT WHILE THEY ANON!11!!!
COME STEP TO A REAL THUG AND SAY THAT SHIT, CRACKER ASS MUTHAFUKAS!!1!
THIS IS WAR!!!
Yeah just like Umihara Kawase and how no one gave a fuck until the DRM rental service took it down
This place is just another subreddit now, 90% of the board are shit eating Steam cucks who only play Western shit or FOTM like Undertale.
Same, Im trying to quit /v/ and going to other boards
Im just here because it's new year's eve
They can just add this. I've never come across a webm screamer, ever
This place is filth! Let's clean it up! :)
This post brought to you by Dial Soap
Undertale actually was an indie game nobody gave a shit about, we talked about the demo all the time but 2 weeks after the full release the shit eaters found it and made it big
Does anyone remember "The /v/ Culture Wars" as I like to refer to them?
It was a huge board dividing issue back around 09/10/11 yet it's not something that's even brought up anymore.
/v/ was so angry back then. Angry about all the shitty generals on the front page, angry about people not posting vidya, angry about ponyshit.
>back then you would get called out for posting tumblr, facebook or imgur filenames
>it's okay to do this now and most shitposts are usually accompanied with either this or image.jpg
This place is filth! Let's clean it up! :)
This post brought to you by Dial Soap
>tfw you've quit /v/ at least three times now
I fucking hate this.
Remember emo and proud? That shit was fucking weird. Apparently, some kid had said that he was emo and proud, so some script kiddie auto spammed a script that encoded a pic of said emo kid with the text "emo and proud" with randomly generated colors. The first spergout I'd ever seen outside of meatspace and it was about some kid who never even got an ED page.
Though no one will admit it, the /vg/ and /vp/ split and the creation of /mlp/ did fucking wonders for this board. Nearly every single tripfag had gone by the /vg/ split and it felt great. No more constant DotA, LoL, Katawa Shoujo, Pokémon and MonHun threads crowding the front page. Also I believe 10 was the first year the catalog was made which made finding the thread you actually wanted so much easier, none of the front page bullshit.
>that guy who put in inconspicuous looking video game footage followed by CP in one of those webm threads
You claimed that reddit was regularly linked to here, which it wasn't. You're also insinuating that 4chan being xenophobic toward other sites was something that started with reddit.
2013 was when things shit got real bad and it has been getting progressively worse ever since, 2015 was the worst year by far and 2016 isn't going to be better
I remember before captcha there always used to be this one post spammed over and over with this white tattooed trashy looked girl and the text "See her video here" or some shit.
That must have been like 6 or 7 years ago now.
Why are we even here?
>angry about ponyshit.
Are bronies still a thing? I remember when /mlp/ was created and the faggots still didn't want to stop making their shit threads on /v/.
>tfw creation of /s4s/ was a joke
>tfw checking your privilege
>back then it was okay to be that autistic
Yep, it truly was a double edged sword. Send all the General autists off to their own board and suddenly /v/ has nothing video game to talk about.
Also we must've spent at least two years afterwards determining what the fuck a General actually was.
Alongside the half year of shitposting that /vg/ was going to have E3 stickies, not /v/
2011 and 2012 were pretty shit for /v/
2013 was pretty good. A lot of new games came out and that sparked a lot of dialogue and OC. Most of them were shit, but still. Having lots of things simply HAPPEN in the industry, regardless of how good they were, is miles better than having a 2014 year where it's just nothing but rereleases.
2015 was ok. Better than 2014, not as good as 2013 though.
>You claimed that reddit was regularly linked to here, which it wasn't.
It was, I'm sorry if you don't remember but it was posted in the same way you'd link to IGN or even Kotaku back then.
>You're also insinuating that 4chan being xenophobic toward other sites was something that started with reddit.
No I didn't and I'm sorry if that's what you insuated. Everyone should know the hatred for shit like Gaia or any other anime trash forum and Facebook, back when literally no one here would use Facebbok.
>2011 on v
>Feminism in video games wasn't even a thing
I miss those days.
im currently cleaning out the crap right now
had a spidey folder but only 4 pics in there
kept this one
I don't remember a time when Reddit was not hated around here. Reddit hasn't been around long and 2010/11 was PEAK fucking Reddit hate.
Remember the Tribes Ascend match we had with them? When was that 2012? Good times lol.
>there are people in this thread RIGHT NOW who haven't seen Gayniggers from Outer Space
You actually went too long without reddit noticing and raping you
>Be on /his/
>Say something not even racially insensitive just marginally offensive.
>Get back to le /pol/!
The sad thing is they think that they are fitting in and behaving correctly.
Its not without flaws.
Now some games only get discussed on /vg/, and the /vg/ threads are obviously terrible.
And Tripfags didnt really disappear. They just removed their trips and still shitpost.
Look at Rugarrell as an example.
>in the same way you'd link to Kotaku
Oh fuck, good one. Are you going to pretend that Kotaku wasn't just as hated 10 years ago as it was now?
I remember when the free-range dick version was on YouTube for some time.
They were almost all with text the ones I had, like pic related. Always tried to start it off with pic related whenever an already shit thread went off-topic.
Remember when we actually seriously fucking hated /b/?
I remember using the term "Newfag" would get you a million redirects back there because saying it marked you as a /b/tard.
The one day it just became acceptable to say newfag for some reason.
The fuck even happened to /b/? They aren't even a proper board with a culture or anything anymore. Just a porn board, kind of sad to be honest.
I preferred when they were the retarded 10 year old of the site.
I've been here since 06 and I can safely say that starting from 2010, it has most literally been downhill hence why people say it every year. But god damn 2015 was so fucking garbage that I think it might be the low point, I highly doubt 2016 /v/ can be shittier than 2015 /v/.
another image that i used to think of in public places and lose my shit
That cheeseburger faggot ruined everything, this is all his fault.
Well actually first you could say Newfag and then I think it was mid 2009 where people started getting really angry when you called people newfag, which I think is when the word Summer replaced it, and then in 2012/2013, we replaced it with Neo /v/. I literally can't wait to see what word we use to describe newfags as next, probably in 2016.
>I remember using the term "Newfag" would get you a million redirects back there because saying it marked you as a /b/tard.
My actual face when reading this, I can't believe I forgot that was a thing.
>The fuck even happened to /b/? They aren't even a proper board with a culture or anything anymore. Just a porn board, kind of sad to be honest.
>I preferred when they were the retarded 10 year old of the site.
The gateway board turned into worthless trash, pretty sad.
>Go on /v/
>The same generic bait threads over and over reaching 100+ replies
>Console shilling threads
>General underage cancer
I fucking hate it here, yet I check in almost daily for at least a couple of minutes
Yeah back then it was just Slowtaku, no one hated it for anything other than being slow at news, occasionally when they weren't being slow they actually had good articles. Completely different from the hate it gets today for being an awful SJW blog site.
But hey I can't expect ED to tell you all of that ;)
>tfw e3 is already closer to us than we are distant from last year's e3
>it's one of those days where you literally spend hours just scrolling and refreshing various boards with nothing really catching your interest
/a/ is prety terrible.
And you're not telling shitposters off, you're shitposting yourself making everything about reddit.
Talk about delusions.
The cancer sits deep. Dont think we'll ever get rid of shit like you.
we can't have good comfy /v/ unless we get rid of Nintendrone. they shit post every single multiplat game or exclusive on system that's not wiiU while having their own comfy Splatoon/SmashMain thread over and over again with no one shit posting in it.
I was actually one of the most Zealous /v/ culture haters back in the day.
I sat laughing on that one day right after /vg/ was created, when the mods went full doing it for free and banned/deleted ANYTHING that was not vidya,
You'd see threads made where people were crying about the Nazi mods and before you could call OP a fag he'd be banned and his thread deleted.
I actually miss /v/ culture just for all the drama it caused.
Been around before this and fsjal, but it's on another decommissioned computer.
>no one hated it for anything other than being slow at news
The Slowtaku nickname came from the Tifa porn article, dumbfuck. It was 2006 or whenever it was, and they were reporting the existence of Tifa porn like it was some shocking, never before heard of thing. Kotaku has always been disliked for being a dumb clickbait site.
Just stop posting, you're embarrassing yourself.
nigger, nintendo game threads are some of the comfiest on here, what are you smoking?
maybe stop participating in console wars like an autist desperate for some community to fit in with
2014 = 2015 = 2013 = 2011 >>>>>>>> 2012
I just want to die
