Why does /v/ hate this game again?
It looks good.
Threadly reminder that Inquisition is the leftovers from what was once a Dragon Age MMO. Also we want the Skyrim and console audience.
It has all of that.
Most things are on Medium. Effects on Ultra.
Except it doesn't.
The combat, despite all the memespouting /v/ may do is very MMO. The only fun mechanics are using a rogue with parry for me as it's the only semblance of enjoyable gameplay. It really lacks tactical gameplay due to how the system works and the AI is just incredibly bad at times.
The RPG elements are awful and there's very little to it when it comes to armor and weapons. Skill trees are pretty simple aswell.
The story is a mix bag of bad dialogue and blandness. You have your occasional fun side mission but the actual side mission itself isn't really fun, instead listening to the crazy shit is the attraction to do it. The main story is uninteresting, and it's a cookie cutter plot chosen one bullshit.
Nah, I'm good.
I highly disagree.
Why is 'MMO' a shitposting term anyways? For one, they don't have standard combat systems, that never made sense at all, and another, it doesn't make it bad, at all.
DAI's combat is hands down the best in the series
Graphics are still great but if it was singleplayer it could be way better.
Plus by singleplayer I obviously mean tuning for a solo player.
Still, they make some really fucking amazing boss fights.
Kingdoms of Amalur was essentially a single player MMO. I thought it was pretty
funtoo. Too bad it basically got shafted for not selling enough copies, even though it sold over a million.
>DA:I combat is hands down the best in the series
Doesn't make it good. DA:O combat also sucked. DA2 tried to do more action orientated combat but ultimately failed because it was equally not as fun.
The reason people also say MMO combat as a derogatory way to describe a games combat is because 90% of the MMOs on the market use tab targeting rotation based gameplay that offers little reaction or variety to the way things really go. In DA:I you get the ability to parry and move out of an enemies attack, but hits lack impact and weight and are just the equivalent of holding down a button. Skills are all just damage, status ailments and knockdowns and very little of the game revolves around actual tactical combat either. It's equivalent to the tab targeting bullshit we've been doing since 2000. It plays like shit and it's not fun.
i was not expecting to like this game as much as i do
I never understood why people play RPGs zoomed all the way in. I can't stand it, besides as much as I hate what bioshit has become I think their games are gorgeous when you are zoomed out, plus you get a better view of the action.
>dev includes appropriate sound and visual representation of what's happening
>MUCH ATMOSPHERE SO REALISTIC WOW
It would be a grindfest filled with repetitive ass quests, terrible stories, terrible voice-acting, and terrible gameplay that wears out its welcome by the time you hit level cap.
The bosses would for the most part be thoughtless garbage and you'd constantly be wondering if a team of retards designed one dungeon and an actual dev team designed the other.
>it doesn't make it bad, at all.
It does. MMOs have bad combat systems designed around people having shitty internet connections.
Ofcourse lately we've been getting MMOs with decent combat, but when people say MMO combat they mean the shitty WoW tab targetting.
Serious questions here.
What's the deal with the whole mage/templars conflict? Why is it so big?
Aren't mages and templars supposed to be only small fraction of population? What are they doing when they are not killing each other? Do they have normal jobs or is their whole life "Herp derp I'm a mage, I'm so opressed"?
Ah fuck, I came all this way and these fuckers won't even let me in!
Well if you fucking paid attention to the story. The mages are unrightfully oppressed by the Templars because every now and then like two mages get possessed by demons and violently kill everything.
Mages rebel, now there's a continent-wide war for mage rights. Also demons are starting to come through into reality.
It really is a pretty good story when you experience it.
I just hate how much they turned away from Origins. The epilogue of that game just set itself up for a sequel, especially if you said that you were gonna go travel the world for a while.
I feel like the entire story of Origins could be cut and DA2 and Inquisition would still make sense for the most part, which is sad because I absolutely love Origins.
>because every now and then like two mages get possessed by demons and violently kill everything
In all of DA2 there were like 3 mages, tops that didn't dabble in the blood magic and get possessed on account of it.
I love RPGs
I was down there just 15 minutes ago running from Templars and Rebel Mages
DA:O was fairly low fantasy, so mages were really fucking dangerous, not just because of magic itself but because of demon possession.
Add to the fact that the blight was pretty much the fault of mages and you can see why the Chantry instituted the Templar/Circle system. Mages were torn from their families to live in circles and were taught all their lives that they were pretty much born cursed. The they have Templars watching their every move just ready to kill them if they got out of line.
All this simmers until Anders being a retard blows up the Kirkwall chantry, which set off crazy crazy Templar commander Meredith to declare that every mage in Kirkwall had to die(although to be fair every mage i Kirkwall was pretty much a blood mage except ironically Anders). The circles declare independence in response to this. It's a bid deal because Mages are powerful and many of them start summoning demons, and Templars are probably one of the strongest military powers in Thedas
>better story than Elder Scrolls
>better lore too
Just fucking no. This is a game straight up influenced by Skyrim, a game many people openly hated. By that logic DA:I is fucking terrible.
>running from bandits
>end up in a valley
>fuckhuge shadow swoops across me/it
>Why does /v/ hate this game again?
Because it's shit.
>putting words in my mouth
>implying that every idiot making an RPG isn't spouting off and creaming in their pants about Skyrim
The problem isn't me, butt tard, it's the industry. I'm not claiming Skyrim invented open world environments, but every developer who wants to shit out an RPG appears to think so. You're beef is with the higher ups who think that type of shit.
>Dragon Age invented boring derivative gameplay, empty and hollow mechanics and retarded, retreaded lore
What, you fucking kidding me? All Elder Scrolls has is stupid Tolkien tropes. Oblivion's story is literally just a demon invasion with everyone working together to save the world. At least you have inter-conflict in the Dragon Age universe. Not some dumb, everyone gets along bullshit.
Don't act snide with me.
You and like the one other retard in this thread are just a bunch of jaded bastards that can't admit DAI is fucking great.
I will admit I trolled that the hud was kinda shitty, and the lesbo rpg shit just made me cringe. along with that ugly bitch bitch. anyway, after playing the torrent. it's not too bad. lvl 6 frost mage reporting in./
