Just a random save file from campaign loaded

Does anyone know how the combat even worked in this game? I seriously never really figured it out, all I really understood was that you moved the units somewhere and if they wanted to attack they would otherwise nope

Also was it too fucking hard for them to pay some nigger $3 to record some sentences in Chinese why did they have to make up some fake pseudo-Chinese for the peasants to say when clicked on

Not really, city building is kinda boring, to be frank.
Also because I'm a Hun player which means no houses.

Also, does anyone else enjoy dropping castles and towers (especially bombard ones) right at the doorstep of the enemy base?

Rome: Total War with the 'Europa Barbarorum' mod.

Not only is it a great immersive game, but you learn alot of all the empires, kingdoms, states and how people lived back then.

EB is a must-have for people that are interested in the ancient/antiquity period.

Age of Empires or Empire Earth does not even come close to EB's scale of depth.

You'll never go back to vanilla RTW once you play EB. Infact vanilla RTW is terrible and full of inaccuracies, it's a fantasy game compared to EB.

Super comfy game. I still use the scenario creator to just build scenes, villages, nature maps etc. Recently found out they had added wooden bridges too, so now the small towns will look even better. Some of my favourite maps that I've made are pirate islands, a nottingham forrest map and an aztec temple map.

You just gotta be careful that they don't get Onagers too and use your path as another pass. Forgotten Empires/The Forgotten makes regular Onagers able to kill trees too, and since many civs get mid-tier siege the opportunity is there without requiring one of the most expensive upgrades in the game.

Original has practically got free Forgotten Empires (missing only some tweaks and some updated textures), is more LAN friendly and easier to get going thanks to no Steam integration, and there's more settings to play with when you have UserPatch.

HD version makes modding much more accessible and has an online playerbase I guess, plus the AoF team asked Microsoft to help make their mod become official

But Generals has nothing to do with the C&C universe at all. It's gameplay mechanics and sources are also very different. EA just slapped the 'C&C' title on it so it sells more.

Don't get me wrong Generals is an alright game but it's not part of the Tiberium or Red Alert universe. It's also when EA retconned the series and fucked over the hardcore C&C fanbase.

I love Mental Omega but fuck, those bases that they keep posting are just begging to be destroyed.

I know the whole point is showing something that would never be done in single player due to practically but just look at this shit. What kind of a goddamn moron would spread out all his production, power, tech buildings and even his goddamn construction yard at the outskirts of his base, near ledges from where the enemy can easily attack and can fucking cripple him without having to worry about all those scary Railguns and Antares Batteries in the center.

For fucks sake, the power isn't even spread out and a 2/3 of the plants are near the construction yard. Just one attack could easily turn all those defenses into a big liability.

This is what i like the most about AoE II.
I make a huge city/fortress with all the needed supplies (gold, wood, stone and farms).
While i let 5-6 CPU's team up 5-1 me , on hard.

Its a real fucking challenge because 5 CPU vs you alone is a losing battle , you either get a quick steamroll force that hopefully does not get wiped.
Or hold out a wonder.

It always surprises me how fast the CPU is on hard once you start sending your army they already have a city and a small force as well.

I wish we had more games with infinite resource nodes like TA/Supreme Commander.
It's so much comfier to build bases when you don't run out of resources.
One of my biggest issues with AoE2 town building is that maps are just not designed for megaprojects. You run out of stone around your base before you get some decent walls up.

I bought the AoEII and AoM HD editions but I kinda regret it. The unit pathing seems to bug a lot during combat. I can't remember it being this shitty in the originals.

Guys help me remember the name of a somewhat old RTS, it was in the shogun era as I remember and the main thing was the troop training: you had a basic peasant and 3 types of training building: melee, ranged and gunpowder(?). if you sent one into the melee, you would get a pikeman or something, then you could also send it to ranged, making him a javeliner, so essentially you could make tier 1 warriors by a single training or combining them for more special stuff.

If anyone remember this game, it would be greatly appreciated

Honestly, they could even make a AoE 4 that revisited the medieval period. I wouldn't say no to an AoE game where each civilization was even more unique, they could add like 1 unique unit and tech per age and bonuses more impactful and creative than "15% boat construction speed".

Why dont they make proepr singleplayer rts games anymore?

Its either assfagots tier action (COH, DOW), or multiplayer oriented with no good singleplayer (SC).

Is it because singleplayer no longer sells unless it is a massive open/long game like farcry or big rpgs? (Or an established fps franchise obviously)

Last time I played it, it was just too fucking hard. Easy became Brutal in the skirmish and the missions are obnoxious. It's like the author only made the game for hardcore people and Speeder even has a "pro" player or something give him advice on the missions. Couldn't enjoy it myself. You're probably gonna say something like "git gud" but it's a problem when you alienate the fanbase who just likes to sit back and build bases. I don't fucking want to die by a rush in like 5 minutes on an offline match.

First you have to learn a build order and how to go to the next age correctly.
You will have to learn the following strategies to stomp your first noobs:
>Feudal Rush or Flush (10:00 to 11:30 feudal, main move is mass skirmisher attack)
>Fast Castle (14:30 to 16:30 castle and start pumping out knights)
>Galley Rush (like Flush, only on sea with galleys)
>Black Forest Boom (wall in on a black forest map and go imperial as fast as possible with a strong economy and several towncenters)

And more advanced things to learn:
>HOTKEYS LEARN
>always press "H" then "A" - h is town center, a is produce villager
>never be housed
>always press h then a
>if you have multiple town centers, press h, a, h, a, h, a
>learn micro-management for early game and macro-management for late game (early is assinged everything carefully from dark age to castle, late is macroing 20 stables and 120 villagers while building farm and raiding the enemies villagers)

have fun

That's the main problem if you don't have friends to play with. The best way of playing games is finding a community, for america I believe aok heaven is still a thing and just play with some regular noobs.
And if I say regular noobs, I mean that. Many players still play AoE2 without ever getting good at it, just for fun. Don't get to confident though, they will still fuck everyone up who doesn't know how to castle age before 17:00.

Yeah, on higher difficulties the ai doesn't form up groups of 36 musketeers into squares and march them into you, they fucking hire like 5 cossacks to kamikaze into your base at Sanic levels of fast and capture and burn all of your buildings to fuck your economy. If that doesn't work they then send out groups of like 12 pikemen or 8 musketeers accompanied by bowmen until you win.

Pic related is how fights tend to look, even with an officer, which makes things 10x more organized.

>>275884346

We are humans, we make mistakes all the time especially here since it's easy enough to lose a hundred dragoons if they step in front of one of your cannons when it's about to shot closer enemies. What do you care? Anyway if you feel guilty about it just put scouts everywhere, units are cheap and you can have as much as you want of them

Well in Rise of Nations they actually have political effects. Generic country ( a real life country) makes generic units (generic tanks, generic infantry), on a general universe (real life), using generic weapons (missiles), that has generic effects (explosions).

SupCom is the opposite of generic
Red Alert 1 is the opposite of generic, it mixes real life with fantasy shit, laser beams, etc
Tib is the opposite of generic, it has disc throwers, titans, invisible units, etc

When I look at General all I see is generic (and therefore INCREDIBLY boring) bullshit. I don't have fun pretending the real world is fighting among themselves, this already occurs. It's not entertaining.

It was handy though because you could permanently take souls out of play. I think there was only one other spell that could do that.

It was like the total war series sorta. Everyone was in a battalion and then you could move them around to spots and set if they would attack or defend or whatever. It was pretty basic and easy but just a hassal when dealing with larger armies.

How. Unless you're playing TEC with a vasari ally or something.

My only complaint about this game was the utter lack of space based defensive structures. Turtling was impossible.

Holy fuck AoEO blew every RTS 2009+ out of the water. I still can't believe they killed it specially when that fucker was like, number 3 on steam till they announced it's closing.

Literal fucking bullshit.

Fucking TI and DTA.
Brilliant mods, and i can waste hours on them.
Campaigns are challenging as fuck too

Sidenote: TI and DTA are both in the Top 100 in ModDB right now.

Check their ModDB page instead.
DTA is basically a TS mod bringing the first two C&C games to TibSun, with extra pizzazz due to the engine.
It also has its own launcher so you can have alliances with AI and is basically breddy gud.

Not even consolefag, but this was definitely a nice rendition of the SC trinity. It was the gateway game that ultimately lead to the transition to SC love.

Would love to see a revival of this series.
