I started playing fallout 3. And thought it was a prequel to fallout 1 due to the conversations with the megaton citizens. Later notice it's the 23th century. u wot m8. Actually think. Maybe the NCR recovered nuclear abilities and renuked parts of the east in some war. But no. Bethesda is simply a retarded fishfrog.
>>
>>275792130
This is part of what I really hate about the Fallout series. Take a look at the New Vegas strip. This is a piece of land that's being run by several people with robot guards that can hold conversations. All this in mind, why in the FUCK is there trash everywhere? Trash is fucking EVERYWHERE it's disgusting. They couldn't ask the robots to pick any up? The people living there don't clean anything? What the fuck
>>
>this thread again
>>
>>275793225
>But no. Bethesda is simply a retarded fishfrog.
No, Bethesda is just copying generic post apocalyptic-related shit and putting it in the game(s)
>>
Enclave is best faction
>>
>>275792898
NV is pretty trash, nothing but

>have you been to the new vegas strip yet?!
>oh my god you gotta see the strip it's INCREDIBLE
>holy shit you haven't been yet? You better go right now
>oh mur gherd so many games and fun at the new vegas strip!
>few hours later finally show up
>trash everywhere
>very few decent quests
>only fucking blackjack and NO POKER or betting
>no difference between casinos
>nothing at all interesting about the strip
>>
>>275793225
I don't even know why we have mutants in fo3.

>>275793527
I can bet my hat they're going to re-use the enclave in the next game.
>>

>>
>>275793643
Don't small amounts of Enclave troops still exist in, what, Chicago or something? I wouldn't really mind the Enclave being in game so long as it's similar to NV or you fix the Enclave and then lead them to victory
>>
So, what happened to China in the mean time. They seemed victorious? How was the rest of the world doing?

WHERE THE FLYING FUCK IS FALLOUT 4?

DOES BETHESDA NOT WA
>>
>Bombs dropped 200 years ago
>There is still rubble in the streets and rooves missing where people have been living for decades
Seriously what the hell. I get that it's post-apocalyptic, but why would there be doors with rubble blocking them hundreds of years after the war?
>>
>>275793868
>Don't small amounts of Enclave troops still exist in, what, Chicago or something?
there was a small pocket of enclave in chicago but nothing big enough to cause damage.

I don't think we will be able to join the enclave, never ever.

>>275793902

>>
>People keep forgetting that Mr.House built a defense system to destroy any nuke in orbit that came even close to vegas

>>
>>275793527

>>
>>275793835
What an attention whore.
>>
>>275793592
I'm wondering whether or not that was intentional, that people hold this small bit of quasi paradise up to such a high regard because they don't have much else to live for. Of course it's bethesda so it could just be shitty design
>>
>>275794773
It's obsidian actually

And I like to think it's intentional
>>
>>275794136
>there won't be another Fallout for about 6 years

Bullfuckingshit.
>>
>>275794413
No. The first two games were set west of Vegas, and closer to the bombs dropping. The first game everything was mostly a disaster, but there was still minor agriculture, like in Shady Sands. By 2, Shady Sands had become the NCR, and things were generally looking up.
>>
>>275792130
That's the main issue with Fallout 3.
From this aspect, NV surpasses F3.

In the advent of an actual nuclear war New York is one place I fully expect to be completely just gone, utterly gone, but I'm sure Bethesda would think up some monkey wrench excuse for how they survived so we could go inside the empire state building or the statue of liberty or something.

The thing that annoys me the most about the Bethesda Fallouts is the lack of story behind the locations in the world.

FO and FO2 had tons of locations and most of them had some kind of story behind them as you sifted through the clues strewn around. FO3 and NV have things like 'Chucklefuck's shack', which is just another shed plonked in the middle of nowhere full of clipboards and fucking leather belts

Honestly, this is a problem that Fallout has in general, not just 3.

In New Vegas:

-old roads are torn up and cracked; haven't been torn out in towns and replaced with dirt roads or something
-dangerous abandoned houses are still standing and being used
-everything is dirty and broken; no focused attempts to clean and repair have been made
-some semblance of unified government and organized workforces beyond community peacekeepers and farmers are just starting to get established

And all of this is 200 years after the bombs dropped.

The Fallout series has always prided itself on being slightly zany and B-movie science fiction. That's why there's the TARDIS, aliens, giant mutant ants, etc.

I feel a 'realistic' portrayal of the game would do more harm than good.

>>
>>275797937
I don't agree with the"I have to be handheld through games", but he is correct in the fact that NV almost forced you in one direction. Every time I play the game no matter how hard I try, I always find myself ending up in The Strip first.

go re-read Fallout 1 lore, most countires around the world stopped using the kind of nuclear bombs we have in our world and instead switched to precise tactical nuclear warheads that had a far smaller explosion, but produced many times more radiation.

http://fallout.gamepedia.com/Nuclear_bombs
>In the Fallout world, megaton-class thermonuclear weapons had largely been retired by the major nuclear powers in favor of much smaller-yield warheads by the time of the Great War. An average strategic warhead in 2077 had a yield of about 200-750 kilotons, but with a massive increase in radioactive fallout in place of thermal shock, much like a neutron bomb in our own world. However, despite the apparent reduction in raw explosive power, this arsenal was far more dangerous to the Earth's ecosystem, as it deposited far greater amounts of fallout in the atmosphere than had been assumed by pre-War models.
>>
>>275800438
would be interesting if all towns in DC existed on the fringes because of the radiation and only recently have exploratory parties been entering

the only true settlement in DC is a group of ghouls that are highly unhappy their quiet isolation is being broken and actively try to keep humans out. For the rest all that lives there are barely sapient mutants caused by a higher than average concentration of FEV without a master like figure to turn the mutants useful and a load of irradiated raiders that don't know how dangerous radiation is and basically come there to kill, fuck, get drunk and die

It's a better idea than you'd think. I was watching my friend try to play Fallout 3, and he accidentally installed a mod that made the game much harder than he had intended to make it.

>They say the city wasn't hit in the war because of House.
>99% of the city is leveled for no explainable reason and all the debris is missing.

>They say the water is clean because House deflected most of the misses.
>Every single town's water tower is irradiated for no explainable reason.

>They say they used billboards to make the Vegas walls.
>All billboards still have their signs up and there are no poles from billboards that they took signs down from.

>Vegas was a city basically untouched by the war, and had clean water, but no one was able to make farms, outside of Goodsprngs and Nellis, until the NCR and House showed up 7 years ago.
>On top of that there was no attempts to make civilization, everyone was either wandering nomadic tribes or people who lived in caves and were cannibals.

So they had almost no farms, the only big source of clean water was the lake which is many miles away from most towns in south Vegas, and the local plat and animal life is so small there is no way they could have survived on just that for 200 years without grossly depopulating the local plantlife to near extinction....

Thanks man.

Yeah when it comes to video games in general, you pretty much always have to suspend your disbelief about something, but that doesn't make it a bad game.

Take Dark Souls for example. The world has a consistency when it comes to world lore and how the combat mechanics work. Attacks, damage and movement all seem realistic for the setting its in, but when it comes to magic and demons and unexplained lore bits, you just have to shrug it off. Doesn't make it a bad game because of it though.
>>
>>275802328
>99% of the city is leveled for no explainable reason and all the debris is missing
The Mojave is a desert. 200 Years of erosion would wear away almost anything. You could make an argument for erosion selectively effecting the Mojave, but it's a fucking video game. There is a perfectly logical explanation.

>Every single town's water tower is irradiated for no explainable reason
The Mojave is full of nuclear waste. There's tons of nuclear waste barrels out in the open, in caves, in buildings. It accumulated in the groundwater over 200 years. There are a lot of fresh water sources in the wastes, like Goodsprings, the tap in Freeside, and the Colorado.

>Billboards
Good point. They could have taken the billboard posts down with the billboards themselves, but you're right.

There are a lot of farms. Goodsprings, Freeside, Westside, and Nellis have their own farms. There's also a lot of previously occupied farmland outside of Westside and Freeside. It's a desert, agriculture, especially in a harsh climate where water sources are contaminated, is difficult. I don't think there needs to be some kind of centralized civilization; the Mojave is composed of roving bands of raiders and tribals - Freeside, Novac, and a few other places kind of organized on their own over time.
>>
>>275803437

>Pre-war food and drinks haven't rotted away or been eaten yet in 200 years
>Cars still intact

FO3 looks correct if the game were set 10 years after the bombs dropped. But it's set 200 years later. To put that in perspective, the American revolution was roughly 200 years ago. That's the amount of time we're talking about here. Think about how rare it is to find something left over from the Revolution, much less the Civil War, and that's despite civilization being around the whole time to keep things preserved and in working order.

To give you an idea of just how quickly buildings fall apart when abandoned, here's a picture I took of a building I explored that had only been abandoned for 10 years. Notice how it looks even worse than the buildings you explore in FO3.

Yeah, I'd heard about that. The old style of mental 'care' was often more harm than good but straight-up abolishing bunches of institutions rather than reforming them does more harm than good.
That is a ripper ballroom you got there.
I'd love to get into some of that stuff myself, but here in Melbourne there just aren't many buildings that get left to rot since developers keep snapping stuff up and the city is expanding so rapidly. The Victorian (and national, but that's another story) economy is contracting though, might leave us with a few places as companies go belly-up.

This is where we get into an interesting question of how you define mentally ill. I would argue that a good chunk of the current crop of people getting swept up in the ever expanding LGBTQ+ (or whatever the current acronym is) movement are actually suffering from some degree of one of then numerous sexuality and gender based psychological conditions out there, but rather than receive assistance from people who can help them, they get told it's perfectly normal to sexually identify as an AH-64 Apache.

Mental state prevents you from living a happy, productive life: mentally ill.

Like it or not, you were born with a male body, and your body will always be male. You need to adapt to that.

If you can't, that's a mental illness.

I don't get it, the original fallouts are also prettu fucked up when it comes to this. Old buildings everywhere, people living in tents and yurts, little pockets of civilization joined together by trade routes but no centralized power, that sort of thing. Fallout 3 isn't the only game suffering from this.

You people also seem to forget that prettu much everyone was stuffed in some fridge until the vaults started opening. Most people either died when the bombs dropped, became ghouls and died in the wastes or died when their vaults "malfunctioned". You'd think a handful of people who have been part of a social experiment for the last 100 years or so wouldn't be society-rebuilding visionaries.

generic knowledge doesnt disappear just like that.

chemistry 101 will get them to industrial revolution levels again.

Crop knowledge also still exists in basic books. Newly build steam engines should be within their possibility and those things run on fucking almost anything.

200 years should be easy enough to get to industrial revolution levels again, enough to produce things somewhat easily. Even though they have low population numbers it should be beneficial.

>>
>>275816626
They didn't get up and shake the dust off when the bombs hit in 2077, the earth was silent for generations. It's true that they might've been taught STEM in the vaults, but the few people who got out were fucked in the head with agoraphopia, xenophobia and overall anxiety. Nellis is a pretty good example, they were willing to use their knowledge to achieve self sufficiency but were hesitant to share what they knew with the outside. Vault City were also a bunch of elitist cunts who cared only for themselves and left everything else to rot. There were a lot of societal factors stopping people from just coming together, forming a science committee and putting the world back on its feet.

Why would they switch to nukes with MORE radiation, that's completely ridiculous.
Like, there is no logical reason to want a nuke that is MORE radioactive, like ever. It's not a byproduct of using smaller nukes, that would decrease the radiation also. They did that on purpose. Seriously what's the point of radiating the shit out of a place if you don't have to, that's just more land you can't use once you've nuked it and taken over.
>>
>>275817290

I dont think you even need to have a science committee.

Basic knowledge learned at schools will already get them far.

Some libraries or cities that werent hit also could provide with more than enough knowledge to start it up to industrial levels.

These things are easy to do, thats why they teach them at middle schools, not universities.

There are also still books in their packaging in all kinds of warehouses that werent hit properly most likely.

Its just impossible to not get to the industrial revolution levels, in that gameworld or even in real life.

I've seen Megaton residents raking next to that cow, and I think a bucket is near it. So it's probably a communal cow. We never see brahmin milk. Nor do we see anyone milk a brahmin. But Moira does talk about brahmin milk, so it must exist lorewise even if it's not shown in the game. Like the squirrels and iguanas that they eat.

The cow is probably a communal cow, all the Megaton residents chip in to feed and care for it and they all get their share of its milk.

Tim Cain, creator of Fallout, on Fallout 3.

My only intention was I wanted the player to feel like they were traveling the road to The End. The proper "The End" feel for any Fallout game lies in seeing the wreckage of the world before, all its architecture twisted and cracked and flooded with invisible fires, radiation, and seeing the grave of the world that was. ~ Chris Avellone talking about Lonesome Road's look

Except that more bombs doesn't equal longer lasting radiation. Radiation isn't like water where the volume increases depending on how much there is, once time passes, the radiation WILL decrease naturally. It wouldn't even matter if some bombs went off later than others, degradation of radiation still occurs even when they're inside the bombs, it's not like a seal jar of beef jerky.

As for that vaults, even with the ones designed to fail, it still doesn't make any sense that DC's society is complete shit compared to the West coast's

D.C. was more advanced then the entire 4 states commonwealth was before Caesar showed up.

Those fuckers were still tent living tribals with no real cities, trade routes, or knowledge on how to use or maintain weaponry.

The ONLY place that achived more was the NCR..... and thats a rather small portion of America.
>>
>>275828826
Longer lasting radiation wasn't the point. It means more people fucking died and there were less offspring. Every Single one of the vaults was designed to fail, so the surge of people that the west received when vaults gradually started opening just simply weren't there
>>
>>275829015

Only because the idiots at Bethesda don't understand how radiation works. Even though the original FO team played with its properties (mutants and the like), they still adhered to the fact that radiation DEGRADES over time, it's not some eternal substance that stays potent even after a century or two.

I wasn't implying that wasn't the case. But the ratio of people that could survive in cave for generations(much less have one on hand when a nuke was dropping on them) compared to that of vaults which were set up to be shelters is just not even comparable. The social experiments take a hit to this but in the capital wasteland there was literally almost no one who are descended from vault dwellers aside from the very very few people who left vault 101 which was designed to never be opened
>>
>>275830143
