Played both for a period of time. Did endgame, pvp, etc.
FFXIV is fun and all but it feels pretty cosmetic. For the entire time I was playing it I was thinking to myself, I could just be playing wow. It is the same shit without as many restrictions. Bosses all have set attack patterns too, down to every individual melee swing, so there is little room for anything exciting to happen.
I liked the community though, compared to wow. I would say FFXIV is superior for anyone that prefers social gaming, but wow's gameplay is still too superior for FFXIV's to compare.
Just my opinion anyway.

Playing a Monk in both games makes me wonder how SE allowed to let such an embarassing class out compared to its WoW counterpart.

the actual gameplay in wow is more developed with classes having more to actually do. well I mean dps is just as boring in both but being a disc priest in wow is pretty fun.

that said I'm about to boot up ff14 and start leveling up mining because something about the gathering and crafting/gathering classes in this game is just addicting and even if I want to play my white mage the game looks so good its plain eyecandy

Personaly it's been my MMO of choice (even in it's original form, by 1.23 it was a legitimately good game imo) for a long time, it just does so much right for me that I don't think i'll be moving on for quite a while.

As someone who's currently playing both, and has played both since their original versions, I find FFXIV's gameplay to be superior to WoW's.

WoW feels like a McMMO while FFXIV feels like the real deal.

ITT: We compare a game that recently had it's one year anniversary with a game that exists for over 10 years.

Playing a new MMO is always a gamble. You can jump on WoW to play it safe or you can take a risk and give something new a chance. It can turn out great or it can be shit. And by the time it's 10 years WoW will be 20 years and you still can't properly compare the two.

See heres my gripe with this statement. 1.0 had a laggy UI sure but not only did you have more skills but they were a lot more impactful in general because animation locks, when moving then halting you had a stopping/turning animation based on momentum, and monsters were all around something not to mess with because pretty much everything could kill you.

I guess i just miss the picture of 1.0 where you were an adventurer like all the npcs with a mildly impactful ability (future sight).

I have saved situations where the healer died and I just survived long enough to not make the fight wipe. tank is definitely more important than the healer. A healer alone can't make anyone survive when they can't take a hit.

If the tank dies, its the healer's fault. if the healer dies, it's the tank's fault for not doing their job. If DPS dies, it's their own damn fault.

healer can burn cooldowns and loads of mana together healing a heavier dps like dragoon to finish an encounter and then revive the tank. healer is more important because you literally can not replace that role even makeshift. you just happened to be far enough into the encounter that you could survive that long. Now being a tank is certainly important, especially if you have damage mitigation and even health recovery moves to improve your survivability but none of that means shit if you have no healer.
