So you are in charge of setting up the final roster for smash 4. However, because you dont have an unlimited budget you must stay underneath the 48 character limit. Characters you bring can be unchanged veterans or newcomers. Newcomers however can be semi-clones, or else they must replace another newcomer. third party characters are already set in stone, so no changing them or adding any new ones.
Here's what I would do:
>cut charizard and lucario, bring back mewtwo. That way the playable pokemon would be pikachu, jiggly, mewtwo and greninja
>make doc, dark dit and lucina alts for their respective characters. Replace them with dixie (a semi clone, uses hair attacks), lucas and popo. nana will be an alt for popo.
>have either marshall, or ridley replace lucario's open spot on the roster. if both are desired, sacrifice rosalina for another open spot
for me thats pretty much it, would be nice to have another retro rep though (imo duck hunt is pretty damn perfect though). if that were the case I would cut paluntena for another more serious retro character.

Get rid of Dark Pit, Dr. Mario, and Lucina. Bring back Ice Climbers, Lucas, and Wolf. Either make Ganondorf less cloney or cut Rosalina and replace her with Ganon as a separate character.
Though it's not really roster related, I'd also want to give Sheik an Impa costume, and give DK more content in general. Probably have to cut down on content in other areas to make that happen (I wouldn't mind losing some of the Kid Icarus stuff...)
Overall though I'm pretty happy with most of the roster as it is, though.
