I borrowed my brother's GBA to do it side by side.

I liked that the games put a lot of info and details in the background you have to talk/mind read NPCs to figure out, things that doesn't impact the main plot. Stuff like Sheba being from the moon, details about Ivan's family in Contiago, Amiti being Alex's kid and so on. Granted Dark Dawn was a lot less subtle about that stuff and outright stated a bunch of things, I'd honestly think it would've been better if they made Amiti's relation to Alex less obvious.

Reason being that every time I try to pick it back up I give up after a few hours from the sheer frustration of not being able to take 5 steps without getting sucked into yet another battle. The repel spells and items don't even help, they just reduce the frequency from every 5 steps to every 8 steps.

Really, one thing sequels with time jumps always do is explore the changed world. Xillia 2, FFX-2 and a few others do this with only a year or two difference. Golden Sun here has about 20 and a flourishing world with alchemy becoming widespread.

...and they don't do it. And now it's unlikely Golden Sun 4 will happen to put the whole series out of its misery. Damn it, Camelot/Nintendo.

The whole point of the extra party in TLA was that both of their adventures came together in one big crescendo during the final act.

It felt unnecessary and phoned-in in DD. The characters for the 3rd party either felt rushed or didn't live up to expectations. If the game was better paced and kept the story coherent "hey kids, you broke our flying machine, go fix it" became "YOU MUST SAVE THE WORLD FROM DARK AND EDGY FURRY ANNIHILATION" without any mention of the broken flying machine thereafter. it would have been a better game, perhaps even split into two, like its predecessors.

I had never played Golden Sun because RPGs weren't my deal back in the day, but I went in a GBA appreciation stint a few years back and played them both. They were a lot of fun. Notably flawed and needed some streamlining, but the whole Djinn summoning mechanic was unique and interesting, and all the overworld puzzles were neat. I'd really like to see this series revived with a better focus, it's got potential to be something far greater than your average JRPG

And I pretty much cry myself to sleep at night because Isaac has some of the best raw material to work with for a smash bros. moveset, but we got Shulk and Robin instead.

It also got me thinking. Isn't there a romhack out there that combines the first 2 games so that everything flows as a single game as was originally intended? If not, then it can't be that hard to do. After all, when Isaac's party joins yours in the Lost Age, they have everything they had at the end of the first game, Djinni and equips. Plus, the region where the first game took place is in the second just with all the towns and shit removed (I think it was possible to glitch your way there after getting the flying upgrade for your ship). At the very least, it would save players a lot of time from not having to deal with a fuckhuge password or link cable for physical copies.

I fucking loved GS's class customization, it was always fun to duel a friend with different setups and strategies. Shame they're not a little better balanced and the mechanics are more deep, but the elemental mechanics were great.

I used to run 3x Chaos Lords since they hit like a truck (Second only to Ronin I believe) and revive fully heals a dead target. You were pretty vulnerable to buffs/debuffs, but as long as you ended the fight quick, it wasn't a big deal.

10 years passed.
Earthquakes are starting to brak the earth and uncovering new ruins around the world.
From these ruins monsters are starting to pour terrorizing the population.
Play as Isaac as he travels around the WORLD looking for an ending to this and asking his old friends for help (they may not come with him cause reasons, so new people).

Lighting the lighthouses reverses the decay of the world, starts to cause a lot of creatures to be able to use psyenergy. Creatures outside of towns start getting a lot more dangerous as a result, and suddenly lots of humans have access to relatively strong weapons (psyenergy) from what they have. Societies flourish, and wars wind up being fought.

The journey becomes about finding a balance in alchemy in the world, as the lighthouse's force is wild and untamed.

Golden Sun might not have the best writing (despite the awesome tweest on the second game) and it might be on the easy side when it comes to difficulty, but it was so fun to play anyway. The puzzles were many and diverse, and the class system is implemented is so good. The summonings have great animations too. And the sountrack... I listen to music so often I usually end up not giving two shits for game soundtracks, but in this case it really hit the nail on the head. On TLA, the animal quests were cute as fuck, and the towns all around always had a charm to them, but the action was badass in the best sense of the word (again, the soundtrack helped a bunch, not to mention the battle animations).

Golden sun 2 would of been better off with meeting Isaac and co alot more. Either by hiding or running away. Or by Jenna stripping and fucking Isaac for a free pass.
