ITT: Weapons/Enemies/Things in vidya that IRL would be terrifying as fuck.
Keep it vidya related. Explain why.
>Pic related + Needler from Halo
>Shards of razor sharp needles that home in on enemies
>IRL a single one could pucture an organ and kill you
>One "exploding" is enough to rupture organs
>Microscopic "needle" fragments can imbend themselves in your skin causing extreme pain and slow death
>Super combine (7+ needles all hitting you at once) cause enough explosive force to kill/injure anyone close enough to you
>Implying that wouldn't make you shit pink.
>implying Nightmare wouldn't be terrifying as fuck in real life
>Actually pretty smart in terms of combat
>Literally torture enemies to lower enemies moral
>They make weapons to cause pain and inease. Again torture weapons that kill slowly
>Thinking of a 6+ foot tall monkey berserk mode charging you and literally smashing your body up.
This one pretty much goes without saying.
The combine and Half Life 2 in general are scary. Like what they do to Stalkers and how many tortured and just mutilated bodies you find. No children, No animals, Shit is eery .
I'm fucking terrified enough of sharks as it is. If a gun actually existed that could summon land sharks, I'd probably kill myself.
lmao ok I undertstand your afraid of sharks but come on a gun that shoots sharks would be just funny.
"Load up the shark gun mate"
"Whut yu say fgt"
You shoot them, they get back up. You stab them, they get back up.
Well luckily most Covenant would just kill you straight out. However near misses and such can cause 3rd degree burns and slow deaths. Either way no pretty.
Realistically speaking running zombies (L4D style) would be terrifying as fuck, and that's without bringing special infected into the picture.
Still, It's so crazy it's funny.
>The Love Me Tender can be considered the physical manifestation of love on the Continent.
>It walks on a set of six segmented legs and shuffles on its enormous testicles.
>It sings soothing love ballads in its booming, inhuman voice.
>If it ever locks eyes with a Gal Monster, it will misunderstand and think that the poor Gal is in love with it.
>After making sure she's heard a lot of its hideous love songs, it will proceed to restrain her as it joyously pumps 10 litres of semen into her body.
>The Love Me Tender is on the verge of extinction as barely any Gal Monsters survive copulation with the creature.
Well I mean Brutes are probably a little smarter than most of them. As well as having better weapons and armor. You see how sexy a Chieftains armor lookss?
>*'6-9'6 feet tall
>Ran faster than a SPARTAN II
>Utilized technology that made them temporarily invulnerable
>Used technology that could rip you apart using the pull of gravity (Halo Wars)
>Brute Spikers where known to nail human combatants to walls
>Could rip through vehicles weighing several tonnes
Jiralhanae engagements always ended in swathes of flayed human corpses, the Halo universe overall is a terrifying one for any human
The Sanheili were pretty terrifying too until Halo 4 made them out to be 8 feet of paper mache
Imagine if Brutes and Elites actually were bros. Imagine the fucking brutal ass whoopage the Humans would receive
But we did receive the ultimate ass reaming despite the Elte/Brute forces split. We went from a total of 800 colonies spread across the Galaxy to just Earth in a matter of a few years.
If it weren't for the Great Schism and the Covenant civil war that waged after it we would have been driven to extinction, and that happened AFTER they killed 40% of Earth's populace.
My only hope is that it's shown in H5 just how small we are, instead of
>WURR DA CHOOSIN' WUNZ
God imagine the Gravity Hammer.
That shit would pancake you.
> don't mind me, just using brainwashed animals to slaughter children
Flameman was pretty brutal too, burned hundreds of scientists alive
this is now a halo thread
>Tfw "Brute Spike"
The games never did justice to how fucking terrifying a weapon that was. The lore makes it sound like one of the scariest weapons ever invented.
Not to totally defend Halo 4 but I hate when people hate on Spartan 4's and the UNSC acting so high and mighty.
Of course fucking Humanity is going to invest in a huge military. They just lost entire planets, lives and worlds, Going into pussy liberal "no war mode" would have just ended up getting them fucking owned.
Halo 4's human story is totally understandable if you know Halos story. You can't throw down your guns that easily when Halo 4 proved
1-Humanity and Earth isn't fully safe
2-New enemies rise up and now Forunner shit is getting into the mix
3-Storm (although shit) is still a big enough force to cause some harm
4-Didact is still alive and building up an army as well as trying to activate another Halo ring near Earth.
Trust me hate em or not Spartan 4's and WE TUGH BOY UNSC is not stupid, it's legit.
Little known fact about the Spiker
The Spiker "Mags" are actually balls of metal...
Which when shot are super heated through coils and some magnetic shit that super heat them and squeeze them out into spikes.
Spikers and Needlers both are fucking nasty. But Needlers have the edge because they can home in on enemies and turn things into walking bombs
>Also implying have microscopic shards of crytal explode into your face isn't fucking horrible
My problem with the Halsey thing in Halo 4 isn't the fact it happens but the fact nobody is on her side.
Would make a good intertal conflict if there were a good amount of soldiers (non spartan) who sided with her. People seem too shit in that story. Yea she killed and pretty much tortured hundreds of kids, for the lives of billions.
She isn't a saint or sinner. She just did what had to be done. And sadly in Halos lore that meant some horrific shit
>Spreads and spreads and spreads
>Toxic to any and everything, fucking pollutes even the air, making the areas it grows in uninhabitable
>Some is unharvestable, making it essentially unstoppable
Here's an excerpt on tiberium poisoning:
"Human Tiberium poisoning has become much more dangerous with its evolution: if a human comes into direct contact with Tiberium, the green matter will start to fuse with their skin within about 20 seconds. An intense burning sensation will be felt and a full infection will manifest if the victim isn't treated immediately. The flesh will begin to take on a glassy-greenish appearance as it begins to crystallize; eventually internal organs will shut down as Tiberium extends rigid crystalline runners throughout the body. If the crystal is breathed in, then it will become embedded in the lungs. The ability to process oxygen will be lost as the lung tissue crystallises. Eventually the subject will hemorrhage to death."
the exterminatus is one of the most terrifying ideas to me.
out of nowhere, thousends of ships siege you planet and preceed to bomb the living chaos out of it. no reason given, no chance to leave. no remorse.
and the bastards wonder why chaos grows so strong...
i'm not particularly a big fan of the armor designs for the spartan 4's
but multiplayer aside i thought halo 4 was a solid entry to the series
and does anyone know whats up with Ghosts of Onyx and the fact that none of the Spartan 2s know about the 3's in the books. And yet from what i remember of the pre release info bungie gave on Halo Reach most of noble team is spartan 3s
The fucking Javelin Gun from Dead Space.
Fucking spear tears through your skin and pins you to the wall. Then they electrocute the fuck out of you.
This is what I never get. People always rag on Halo 4 because Halsey "Turned evil", and while H4s story was a clusterfuck this was one of the few things that actually made sense. I'm pretty sure ONI didn't have nice plans for her that involved comfy accommodations and breakfast in bed.
Not hating on H4 or the S4's (Except for Palmer, fuck that bitch, she shot mom), just always hated the trope of "Humans are super important"
I'm seriously hoping this is a sign of things to come, Chief slowly gaining emotions and gradually having less and less of people's shit hopefully means he'll wreck some shit and preform some moral grey actions
I'm hoping this all gets brought in to Halos 5 and 6. Seeing some actual emotional resolution/conflict between Chief, and essentially his mother would be a good thing to see and actually flesh him out somewhat as a character.
The man who followed all orders to save humanity, raised by the woman who went to all lengths to save humanity, meeting up after she'd turned her back on the UNSC and wants revenge.
Could be interesting.
Shocked nobody mentioned The Flood
>Fuckers can use weapons and anything
>Can learn memories from foes. Can take over a General and learn everything about goverment documents and top secret shit
>Early level flood can take days to fully infect someone causing horrific pain and the human/victom actually knowing whats going on (btw no cure)
>More advanced flood happen in seconds
>Flood spores can spread in the air, which means breathing in enough of that "Flood Fog" can infect you
>Flood can create living beings out of almost anything once they take over enough area
>Graveminds can control Flood from nearly endless distances.
>Fuckers number so high they have no actual population count because it's too high to even understand
Shit seemed pretty fucked up to die from. Why the fuck did GG have to turn the Helghast into full on GAS DE JEWS in KZ3?
Not pictured: The rest of the weapons from Unreal games
The Ghosts of Onyx story was wrapped up in the first Kilo-Five book. It was the only overly interesting part of that entire trilogy (even if the way it wrapped up was way too quick and neat).
Reach has like a hundred inconsistencies with the books and other games. It was Bungie fucking up all the goodwill they built up with the cool extended universe because they were too lazy to actually try and fit the game into existing lore (which could have been done pretty easily with a half a dozen minor tweaks that didn't even impact mission design or gameplay).
Good thing they spent all that energy working on the fantastic lore for Destiny. Sure doesn't seem like that story is the most generic and meaningless thing ever written.
If im not mistaken isn't that the fucking fun that shoots out hot ass chunks of metal?
Imagine a fucking big metal "thing" smashing into your body and fucking just destroying you.
>MFW playing unreal
>MFW the "freeze time" cheat (forgot actual name, Im sure one of you knows it)
>Shoot a bunch of these at an enemy.
>The "chunks" stay still because freeze time
>Unfreeze time and watch dozens of hot chunks tear enemies apart
Halo 5 is already looking less shitty. AT LEAST BETTER THAN HALO 4
>Focus on arena MP
>Focus on classic Halo style
>Beta will come out long enough before release that if shit is bad they can fix it without ruining the game
Campaign IDK. However
>Chiefs team is back (the original Spartan 2's
>Didact still alive and pissed
>Hopefully learning what people like may fix up some shit,
The least it can be is better than Halo 4. Maybe if we are lucky it'll be based god good
The whole thing in the books is that ONI was on board with the whole kidnapping 6 year olds thing, but Parangosky got uber pissed that she dared to clone the kids to send them back to the parents. Like somehow that was the evil thing.
I get that Strauss has gone on record saying that she was trying to paint ONI as manipulative and fucked up or whatever, but that doesn't work when you make an entire trilogy of books where every character (even one's with established pasts and personalities like Mendez) act in irrational and stupid ways.
Not really a WEAPON persay...but...
>7 and a half feet tall
>Fucking metal mask of death and mystery
>Trench-coat that holds god knows what
>Those white gloves
>Basically can't talk, only wheeze to communicate
>Seen at international terrorist events the world over
>He peers around the corner at you
And don't try to fucking fight the mother fucker, he'll stomp the ground till your punches do shit, then slap your shit.
>tfw people don't like the Gravemind
I thought he was fucking cool, even if he was never really fleshed out.
Covenant Allies + UNSC/ Chief/Locke
Didact and his army
Imagine the fucking chaos. The amount of amazing battles this could do.
>That obvious scrapped boss battle from 3
>That comic with that white elite from halo 2
>Flood on some ship and elites are sent to see what's up
>Flood gets one of the squad members and the flood starts to become more tactical with squads and patrols. Learns to use all the weapons
>Everyone gets wrecked
Yup, The chief and cortana talked liked that had a prior relationship in the first game so I knew it wasn't canon as soon as cortana was introduced, I just wish they used the reach book instead of making up a whole new story.
I forget where I read this but every flood outbreak has the potential to create it's own gravemind, they drag bodies to one area and just make a huge stack and that's what gravemind is.
>tfw Halo 2 is your favorite Halo game
>tfw Halo 2 Anniversary exclusively on Xbone
Not buying an Xbone for that shit, but I'd be lying to say it doesn't hurt.
Officially the events are canonical, as in Noble team did the shit you saw in the game.
But if you look at the timeline of the game, and some weird shit like the Solace being 25 fucking km long (whereas the biggest ship in Fall of Reach was like 5), it's pretty clear that the nitty gritty details are all fucked up.
It seems like (and this is my speculation) 343 is taking the characters and what they did as canonical, but the timeline and larger scope of the battle as having happened like it did in the books. At least that's how I personally take it, and it seems insane to assume the game is 100% canon when it directly contradicts the single best and most widely regarded source of canon in the series (that being Fall of Reach).
what terrifies me is since every human has some sort of 'warp presence' the thought that one day some random person, or you, will pop like a balloon and a gateway for all sorts of warp fuckery will break through
Every gun in vidya would be terrifying in real life you fucking dingus. They are all meant to kill.
What is more scary to you
A: Weapons/Enemies/Etc that kill instantly without warning. Pretty much 100+% fatality rate
B:Weapons/Enemies that kill slowly or torture their victoms. Don't aways kill, however cause slow pain and slow death if death does occur
Oh there's a cure all right. A healthy heaping dose of fire.
At this point everything is lining up for Chief to fuck up ONI/Didact in Halo 5, and at the end it's going to be Chief + Arbiter/Elites + Locke + Mdama/Storm + Lasky/UNSC + Halsey + Ur-Didact/Prometheans + Bornstellar/Librarian/Guilty Spark vs. Precursors/Flood/Organon.
I think the best thing they could do would be
>MC, Arby, Rookie, MCs old team, and some pissed off out of a job ODSTs
>Get to face off against all of S4s
Unfortunately this will never happen though. If the "leak" from a while ago is true though (most confirmed info so far has been somewhat supportive of it being true) then it might have some Metroid-esque exploration elements, which makes sense since alot of the people working at 343 are ex-Prime 2 designers.
I think an 8 foot tall genetically modified sociopath would scare me
Well remember anon my friend. One you could possible live againsts
A: Fight Mike Tyson in his prime with your hands behind your back
B:Fight ISIS niggers but you have a knife.
One you could fight back, maybe win, but will get hurt, The other you are fucked no matter what
It's like the Precursor' Ark kind of.
It's also the source of the Domain, aka the Forerunner internet.
It's exact purpose for the Precursors is kind of unknown (been a while since I read Silentium), but it's heavily implied to be a Precursor mega structure sort of thing that exists in Slipspace and as a result survived the Halos firing 100,000 years ago.
It may not wind up being a major plot point, but again, it's heavily implied to still be around and as a result would potentially be the only remaining Precursor relic (other than the Flood, of course).
well good insight bros.
could stay and chat halo all night
unfortunately have work in the morning
may thoust mental augmentations go well
>pic unrelated. its all i got right now lol
>Because of high energy consumption, it's constantly feeding to the point that hunts species to extinction
An ecological nightmare.
ONI could. They are fucking scum.
>Are trying to kill off Elites, even allied elites
>Trying to make Halsey look like Hiter 2.0
>Bullshitting The Chief and his team
>Causing more conflict and war
They are as bad the Prophets. And Spartan 4's could easily turn bad, all they need is enough bullshit
>"Hey Spartan 4's, Storm is evil, Lets just kill all Elites even good ones"
>"Ok guys, our leaders say this, Human or die"
Also remember Spartan 4's number in the thousands and are beasts in combat, not Spartan II good, but with all that tech, numbers, training, armr they would be a big foe
>TFW Arbiter and Chief tag team beating Palmers face in to a pulp while a ghost of Johnson sheds a tear for joy
ah yes now i remember, i beleive ive briefly flew over the subject before
i'm just now getting back into diving deep into the lore.
guess ima have to pick up that forerunner saga
Chances are that the Locke/Arby campaign will be primarily vs. Storm (with MAYBE minor human enemies) and then Chief vs. Forerunner shit (and maybe some Storm if he goes after Halsey). All speculation, obviously. The comics are fucking up all my ideas for what H5 is going to be.
It's still kind of foggy as to what their ultimate goal is/was. At first they meant to kill the Forerunners and let Humanity have the Mantle. Then, after the Forerunner BTFO'd them, they became the Flood and decided to absorb everything, but first tricked the Forerunners as a sort of final "Fuck you".
Their goal seems to have been either A) Kill the Forerunners as the Flood for revenge, then kill humans or B) Kill Forerunners, leave and let humanity evolve/take the Mantle, then, once humanity is at it's peak, come back and absorb them.
Again, it's kind of vague, but Primordium and Silentium both pretty clearly state that the Flood-Precursors very much want to consume everything, whereas the original Precursors did not.
WoW has some crazy powerlevels
Ok would you rather see
A:Palmer become a good charachter, less annoying, less cunty and turn around to be someone you can like
B:Kill her off as fast as possible and replaced by someone else?
>TFW Arbiter and Chief tag team beating Palmers face in to a pulp while a ghost of Johnson sheds a tear for joy
YFW 343 turns shit around and has Chief work with his original team this time
>Coop for Locke is LOCKE+Spartans and/or Elites
>Chief COOP is Chief+His team of Spartans
Shit would be amazing. B
>Bonus points if some COOP modes are
The Forerunner saga is fucking fantastic.
People who just played Halo 4 and said Halo lore is fucked are idiots. Yeah, the "Chosen One" thing sucks and is was overdone at this point, but they could very easily downplay that in the next couple games in favor of Chief just being THAT badass.
The Strauss books are the abominations. For every cool idea they put forward they fuck up like 3 other things. They're (meaning the first two) worth reading if you haven't because they have impact on the universe, but they are almost wholly unlikable in terms of characters and moment-to-moment plot. Also, nothing happens in Mortal Dictata. At all.
My guess is that H5 (Chiefs story at least) is that he's trying to find Halsey to try and bring Cortana back.
In the trailer he's
>Has Cortanas chip thingy
>Halsey is with elites, makes sense that they would be on Sanghelios
I hated how organic the armor all looked. Too much of that form fitting artificial muscle stuff. I wanted muh angular bits that had bulk, not skin tight muscle exposed everywhere
>Animals as Leaders is making original music for H5
Might be cool
I know it will never happen but if someone used G-Mod or something to do this I'd love it
>Wresling game mods
>Arbiter and Chief skins
>Palmer walking in parking lot
>Arbiter sneaks behind and trips Palmer and she smashed into car (bonus points if it's a Warthog)
>Chief comes and they kick her down with horrible animations because no alien/Elite models in wresling games
>Palmer on ground
>Chief and Arby do "you cant see me" to her body
>As they walk away camera pans to the sky
>the clouds emerge into Johnson like design
>it sheds a tear
Where did you hear this? Please do link me kind mate
Exactly. Way too organic looking. 40k will always have my favorite armor followed by the armor in Reach
I think best case is that she antagonizes the entire game, but slowly is less and less sure of her motivations. At the very end she turns around and does something heroic, but is killed immediately afterwards. Best of both worlds.
My guess is that if Blue team is involved at all, it'll be on the Locke/Arby side.
They have NEVER been mentioned in the games. Having a bunch of other S-IIs show up in game, especially in a game where MC is trying to "find himself" emotionally, and tag along would be super weird tonally.
With Locke, they can very easily say "Hey, we used to work with Chief, let's find him" to get game-only people on board and introduce them. Plus it would allow larger scale squad battles in one campaign and have the tighter, quieter campaign that Halo 4 should have been at the same time with MC.
Any speculation seems pointless now though considering how much ridiculous and hyper-significant shit is happening in the comics right now.
Should i even read Contact Harvest? (read save for later)
does it have any good tidbits, I imagine its just fanfare or wtf ever you call it. but i have a copy here waiting to be read but now i think ima pick up dat fore runner saga
Eh shit flying all over the screen showing where the weapons are and stuff/ grenade indacators.
fucking Damage and speed boosts for kill streaks
kill streak rewards in general
loadouts (and i actually liked armor abilities)
Is there any confirmation that the H5 teaser is Sanghelios? It seems like speculation was split down the middle of Sanghelios and the ruined Ark. And as much as the Ark theory seems ridiculous, there's a shitload of evidence for it.
Also, Halsey is with Storm. Unless there's some massive uprising on Sanghelios, that's the last place Storm is going to go.
But that's already real, anon.
Only a matter of time until they jump to mammals.
Not at this point.
It was mildly cool at the time (super boring most of the time though) but the only thing even mildly relevant to the greater lore was a brief bit with Mendicant Bias, and he has been WAY more heavily fleshed out through the H3 terminals and the Forerunner saga.
I know he's not originally from video games, but there are enough DBZ games and /v/ has threads about it daily so... This motherfucker...
Aside from having the standard DBZ powers i.e. being able to destroy a planet with his pinkie, no pun intended. Which is scary enough anyway, but this motherfucker can simply count how many people are on Earth and kill them all, and leave the planet intact. Imagine being the one guy who managed to escape that?
How about the fact he can turn people into candy, cakes, and other sweet treats? Being killed in an explosion or shot through the chest with an energy blast is one thing, but being eaten is even worse, especially the humiliation of being turned into a Snickers bar.
What's that? There's actually someone strong enough to fight this guy? Not for long! This asshole will just shit out the folds of his back fat, or let the penis on his head get chopped off. Then use his missing body parts to wrap up the only people who could possibly stop him, and then while they're being drowned in Orbit Bubblemint gum he'll absorb them, and make himself even stronger!
I could go on, but I think you all get it.
Sanghelios makes way more sense in terms of visuals and immediate recognizably, but someone recently laid out all the evidence from Halo 3 and Silentium for the Ark/Mendicant Bias theory, and it's really fucking compelling.
Ok for those who have played all (or a few) of Halo's campaigns....
Pick one campaign level per game that has the most atomsphere and just overall stands out. Im talking like maps that are just amazing visually.
HaloCE: Truth and Reconciliation (Spelling). That night time. The Covenant ship above. The sounds
Halo 2: Gravemind. Those Covenant designs and distant cities. The music. Overall beautiful
Halo3 : The Covenant. The ending battle mostly, just seems really beautiful and awesome.
Halo ODST: The open world part. Too many reasons
Halo Reach: Nightfall. That night, the music, the sounds, the skybox, amazing
Halo 4: Forgot the leve but when you first land on Requiem. Felt like Halo for a second and was very well done
OP here. Gotta step out and eat something. Try to keep my thread alive. Keep it on topic or Halo related, idc.
>Looking forward to see what comes up.
Oh and here's a nice pic for you all
CE: nailed it
2: nailed it
3: uhhhhh havent played it in a while
probably gravemind. cause gravemind.
odst: just going to agree with you cause i only played it once
Reach: new alexandria. and or the one with The space mission i forget the name
4: i really liked the prologue and i also only played it once
but have watched the cutscenes a few times
but the elephant mission comes to mind
The injector gun from Time Splitters: Future Perfect
Imagine getting shot with this and then inflating to the point of exploiding.
shit is scary
H1: 343 Guilty Spark (Played this at a friend's house originally and forced him to stop skipping cutscenes. Probably the thing that got me hooked into Halo/Halo lore)
H2: High Charity (Listening to Truth/Gravemind argue was fantastic)
H3: The Covenant (Goddamn Flood teamup)
ODST: Uplift Reserve (Warthog levels are almost always GOAT)
Reach: Lone Wolf (Only memorable part of that game for me, too busy raging about shitty retcons)
H4: Midnight (Fucking Star Fox)
Literally every Covenant weapon in Halo would be incredibly fucked up in real life.
>Plasma weaponry causes horrific burns even if it misses
>Needler's explode and shred your organs
>Brute weaponry is monstrously cruel
>Various orbital weapons capable of literally turning a planet to glass
Thinking back it makes literally no sense that humanity won.
CE: First level
H2: Metropolis (Fucking scarab gun)
H3: The Covenant
ODST: Don't really remember anything other than the open world bits honestly
H4:I thought flying the pelican was neat
>being slapped by a Hunter shield
>being hit with a grav hammer
>being stabbed by a plasma sword
>being sliced by a brute shot's bayonet
I think I'm the one you're referring to.
And I'm rapidly realizing that I'm basically autistic when it comes to just knowing everything about fucking Halo. Haven't touched the wiki once during this thread.
Everything in silent hill but the nurses because i mean who wouldn't fuck one of the nurses.
its pretty amazing.
i'm actually really jealous lol
as you can see im havin a pretty big nerd gazm over all this info cant seem to bring myself away from the screen lol
once i catch up on the books im'a be in the same boat lol
and i think this thread just pushed me over the edge on getting a xbone 0_o
I don't know, at this point Halo is far from the biggest franchise in the world, and pretty much everyone excited for H5 is super pumped about the Arbiter being back.
The people who sperged out at Halo 2 were either casuals who didn't care at all about story or 10-year-olds who just wanted muh Master Chief.
Those 10-year-olds are now 20. And you know what? They're probably super fucked pumped for H2A and the Arbiter missions.
Halo is literally the only reason I got an Xbone over a PS4. I'd really like to play Bloodbourne, but at this point I'm way, waaay too over invested in this fucking series.
In terms of books, I'm not sure where you're all already, but it's pretty much just Nylund, Bear and (regrettably) Traviss that you really need to read. All of the other books, the previous comics and the other shit like Legends are completely irrelevant.
That said, this Escalation series is going off the fucking rails with regards to how relevant it is. I haven't read it yet (I'll wait until they're all out and suffer through the act of reading a fucking comic all at once), but I've read the summaries of the already-released issues and I have no fucking idea how they are going to shoehorn this into the game for someone who hasn't read them.
Sidebar: I've been calling "Karen Traviss" "Karen Strauss" all thread. I'm a fucking idiot.
>CE: 343 Guilty Spark.
This level legitimately terrified me as a kid. I had nightmares about the Flood.
Odd choice, but I just enjoyed how serene everything seemed, as though it was all in direct contrast to the violence erupting around you.
If you would have come up to me in 06 and told me that in the next Halo game, Gravemind would help you, I would laughed in your face. It was just glorious to see.
>ODST: New Mombasa
There's really no other answer unless you're some kind of faggot.
>Reach: New Alexandria.
The sense of desperation and helplessness as you scramble to come up with some kind of plan. Flying the Falcons at what felt like sanic speeds through the rainstorm. It was great.
It was pretty cool seeing the inside of the Dawn, even though they kind of retconned a bunch of shit about it, namely doing somethings that didn't structurally agree with the UNSC Frigate's base design.
Honorable mention goes to the Broadsword trench run. That shit was fantastic.
You're forgetting one important detail: Silent Hill is molded from your nightmares and dark secrets. IE: You wanna fuck this nurse? Go ahead, I'm sure this won't turn into a horrible guro session with you as the victim.
>rifle version of the needler
Anyone else think this is stupid? I mean, what's the point? I thought the whole idea of the needler being similar to an SMG in range and rate of fire was because the homing needles couldn't be shot accurately, so the gun was designed to just spit out bullets and hope they found a target.
I always thought the needler was a sick weapon. I heard there was an old russian torture technique where they insert a small hollow glass tube in your urethra and then have a woman get you hard so it shatters the glass. Imagine that but anywhere in your body
ive yet to buy a "current gen console but i was considering going to the master race but it's all to clear to me im in the same boat.
ive really only read fall of reach and just re-read Onyx like this past week or so it was purdy good.
despite the fact Nylund couldnt let the spartans do a god damn thing without mention there little green light winking on their hud lol
also have legends on DVD from day of release
i actually liked it alot excluding the duel.
Who is that anyways?
really anything after halo 3 im not to caught up on thats about when life started getting kinda real for me and i havnt had much time to invest in the series but am now trying to cram it all in before halo 5 (which will be a breeze)
Can you imagine trying to drive one of these fucking things?
Makes me wonder. If you are shrunk down to that size. Are you able to see small objects now?
Like imagine fucking dust mites being the size of dogs or cats, Fucking dust and shit would be huge creepy balls of dead skin and living crawling things.
Karen Traviss wrote the Kilo-Five trilogy. It's most recent set of books set in "current day" (meaning 2552-3 ish). They are pretty shitty books for a lot of reasons (and are the primary reason everyone bitches about 343 demonizing Halsey, because they are way, way more blatant than even Spartan Ops is), but they have a lot of shit relevant to the universe especially relating to Halsey, Hood, the Arbiter, the Infinity, Onyx, Engineers, etc. That said, Mortal Dictata (the third book) doesn't even have that and is fucking awful.
Greg Bear wrote the Forerunner saga books. They are SUPER weird when you start. But the story gets super compelling and reveals ALL SORTS of crazy shit about the past of the universe. If you haven't played Halo 4 yet, absolutely read these books first - they are literally essential to understanding major parts of the game.
It's called the Carbine. It was in Halo 2.
Ok top 5 scary game concepts or things
3-Infection related enemies
4-Torture designed weapons

Guys while we're having an awesome Halo thread...
... Let's discuss what we think the HD remasters of Halo would be like if Bungie made them instead of shitty timesplitters studio, and forget 4 ever existed.
OP here. Back.
Didn't expect my thread to still be alive. Also didn't really expect it to be 70% Halo. But hey long as everyone is cool.
Anyway going back on topic with the threads original theme.
In Half Life those Alien Grunts scared the shit of me. They were just big, those grunting sounds, shits made me wanna skip those parts as a kid
Things popping out of your chest is pretty shit
>Dat fact Halo (CE) is heavily influenced by Aliens
CE: The night mission with the sniper
H2: High charity
H3: The covenant
HR: Nightfall (I really like snipers)
ODST: The last mission where you hold out
H4: First mission was alright I guess
The Harvesters in Deus Ex: HR
Piss off certain people or be at the wrong place at the wrong time and you'll get grabbed off the streets and end up in some dank operating theater where people cut you apart for money.
Anything that doesn't have the range of modern Army Artillery is not terrifying.
Enemy have snipers?
Bombard the landscape.
Enemy has tanks?
Bombard the landscape.
Bombard the landscape.
You can do it from a ship, you can do it from the sky, you can do it a million miles away from their shitty country.
Ghosts? Bombard them. Zombies? Bombard them. Thin Men?
Fuck I don't know they got range man.
Totally forgot about that game. Didn't they also capture people and connect them to weird machines while they were still aware of it. Shits CREEPY
TFW America doesnt need numbers or even super well trained soldiers to win wars. We can just fucking bomb niggas from miles away.
Too bad our President is a liberal faggot and our Military is being stripped of any respect because "MUH PEACE"
>Military is being stripped
Nigger don't believe anything on the news, we're better equipped than we ever have been in the history of the military.
We drop a lot of equipment off in other countries we're trying to back to get into proxy wars for us too. What do you think Afghanistan was? All our equipment was marked abandon only.
GIF makes me smile. Wish more like it
To begin with; the premise of the game itself is fucking terrifying. There's reports of a plague in a small, Russian-ish steppe town, mostly cut off from the outside world; and you play one of three healers trying to defeat the disease. So you're fighting an enemy that can't be killed; for the most part can't be seen, and is everywhere. As far as the characters go, you either play a Science! hero doctor who's from the capital (and thus knows fuck all about the town or its inhabitants), a weird local shaman/healer
who immediately starts off the game with almost no health, hated by almost everyone and with guards willing to attack on sight because the whole town thinks you murdered your own fatheror a creepy waif prophetess.
So, you get into the game, play the first day and yep - it's plague. You now you've got eleven days to try and do your best to save this town and its inhabitants; and the plague is going to be literally everywhere. It infects whole districts at a time, which are marked by giant flags with skulls on them and dead rats nailed to them as a warning to people. The infection turns the air/screen inside to a sickly grey-green, and the plague itself manifests as either pale violet clouds that look like OVERLAPPING SCREAMING FACES or as giant angels of death that fly at you faster than you can run. These are only visible from incredibly close and will often mark chokepoints between important locations, with only an incredibly small space to let you get by safely. Within the infected districts the more badly stricken are reduced to near-mindless husks, swathed in rags who will chase you down and choke infection at you should they catch you. The better (or worse?) off simply lie strewn through the streets, moaning, paralysed by pain, and the only thing you can do for them is to ease their suffering with your (very limited) medicine. (1/?)
Medicine that you'll probably be selling your only bullets to afford and using on yourself, anyway.
Worse, thugs and robbers prowl through the infected districts (and the entire town, at night), murdering and looting anyone they come across - whether that be innocent townsfolk or yourself - often with their near-instakill thrown knives, which they thrown with an insane amount of skill. Then they close in to hack you to death. Eventually; crazed arsonists start roaming the streets, intending to burn down the entirety of the infection - you included - and hurl molotovs at any moving thing they see.
Through all this, the infection gets worse. It changes and spreads every day, slowly strengthening its grip on the town and expanding its reach every day.
Gameplay wise, it is a gruelling and terrible experience. The combat is a terrifying prospect because of how clunky the interface is (which is fitting, because none of the PCs have any combat experience) - drawing, swinging a weapon and reloading your gun are all incredibly slow. Everything's damage is pretty high, but weapons degrade over time and health is very difficult to recover aside from bandaging up after a fight or taking painkillers and resting overnight.
Your survival is dependent on a number of measures of your healthiness - your health (HP), exhaustion, infection, and hunger. So you've gotta eat and sleep regularly, and this is a game where you can sell your gun and all of your bullets for maybe enough to eat for another day. Supplies are difficult at best to come by, the main (almost-free) source being to collect trinkets around the town and to trade them to locals for stuff like bullets, medicine, and medical supplies; which you then sell for food. (2/?)
Itachi Uchiha technically is in a video game as well as Tsukuyomi.
Damn Tsukuyomi, imagine being tortured for days on end (as in, not even one second of rest) and all of that happened within seconds in real life.
The worst part is, if you psychologically survived that, it could just be done to you again if you even as much as looked at the guy again.
OP here. Gotta sleep because it's 4:38 AM here in this shithole. I'll be back sometime later today/night.
Good talking about games with you all. You'll see me soon. PEACE
In the meantime keep the love alive.
CE: Truth and Reconciliation. Yeah, damn fine level with variety.
H2: Quarantine Zone. Elites, large spaces for vehicles, perfect atmosphere. Playing as the arbiter was the highpoint of 2.
H3: Storm or Floodgate. Mostly for atmosphere, the gameplay didn't feel that good in 3. Notice that Floodgate feels a lot like the Quarantine Zone.
ODST: Yeah, the nightly city, mostly because at this point Bungie's style of writing has gone full-Star Wars and it's one of the few points in the game where it doesn't try to cram the plot or how awesome ODSTs are down your throat. The last point where Halo felt like Halo for me.
Reach: New Alexandria. I really digged the idea of flying around, doing regular soldier stuff.
