The issue stems from Ice Climbers using more complex coding than any other character, particularly the input delay and switch to AI at certain range. Rosalina and Luma don't function the same way as Ice Climbers.

Luma probably uses much simpler pathfinding than Nana, which uses the full AI and can be simultaneously controlled in various situations, putting more stress on the game.

Rosalina's luma is a direct extension of her unlike the climbers which can seperate and become their own controlled entity. you cannot desynch luma, it's a 1:1 entirely player controlled entity the entire time, which means the CPU wouldnt have to work as hard as if it were the climbers.
Pikmin AI is very simple. Just follow Olimar, try not to get killed.
Nana's AI has to be as complicated as a computer controlled character. It has to move, jump, attack, grab items, etc. It's basically having a fifth player on screen that the game has to keep track of. When you take into account that the game would have to handle four Ice Climbers...
Thats the point, they need to create the worst scenario with the max amount possible of assist throphies (thing that i am sure must freeze the game for 3ds by itself) AND 4 ice climbers, besides Nana is by far much more complex than an assist throphy.

That's not how it works, different architecture. Example: Square began making FF on the N64 but ended up putting FF7 on the PS because N64 couldn't handle what they wanted to do, and N64 was actually a more powerful console.
That doesn't take load off the CPU for the amount of calculations it has to do for the 8 separate AI's, plus a shit ton of items (if you're a casual) plus smashballs (again casual) and assist trophies... Nana has always been a separate AI that the hardware has to consider on its own.
Considering the amount of backlash that babbies kick and scream about every time their 1080p game dips to 59FPS even if there are hundreds of enemies on screen, I think they're right to just cut the character than lose some quality
When luma gets knocked off the stage, can rosalina call it back, or is it doomed as soon as someone hits luma with a smash attack? Every time I see rosalina gameplay, they hit luma, it just falls straight down, inches from the ledge of the stage, while rosalina stands there and watches it die

So it switches to a standard AI that probably takes less effort than even a lvl.1 CPU. In a game that lets you fight more than 4 AI at a time, this doesn't sound like a major hindrance.

Ever since Melee when my friend and I were playing it choosing random characters, if we stumbled upon Ice Climbers, we could reroll. RE4 was built for 6th gen, and REvelations uses a (scaled down) 7th gen engine.

Even SoPo was in a decent tier during Brawl. "HURR TIERS R 4 QWEERS!" Don't misconstrue this as some tiering argument, point is one ice climber was usable. Did you even know their Side special had decent horizontal recovery when alone?
That's fun? Have you tried 4 player Ice Climber matches, where handicap and weight is set to minimum? It's an 8 player free for all OHKO extravaganza, where you can still get Nana to kill the opponent when popo is flying into the background

Luma's AI is literally just for waddling in place while separated from Rosalina; all of its attacks are dictated by the player, it doesn't jump, shield, grab, dodge, or even move on its own, it just inches slowly toward Rosalina when she's not giving orders.
How is that the same as a completely separate instance of the same character that has to account for mimicking your inputs on a delay when next to you and then trying to run and jump their way closer to you when separated, including having to recover when thrown off stage?
Because the character customizations are the same. The idea is that you play Smash Run with your custom characters to earn more custom moves and equipment, then bring them onto the Wii U version for whatever they have planned for that.
