reminder that this is controlling your body
Serious question here. How are you supposed to get scared without jump scares?
Seriously, if anyone can name 5 legit ad good ways to scare someone without a jump scare, I'll be very impressed.
Tension is the key to quality scares in any form of media. It's why good horror movie directors like to keep the monster a mystery for as long as possible. Whatever you make up in your mind is going to be a hell of a lot scarier than what the monster really is, so you should play on that for prolonged dread.
This game has tension, though. I thought it was pretty scary.
Stop hating on it. I liked it.
I wish it was a bit longer and fleshed out though.
Cause the fact that the robots seem to be sentient and learn your pattern of supervision is interesting.
Also, I love the cute fanart it spawned.
(DONT post the porn you cunts.)
The saddest thing is, the game DOES rely on a psychological horror atmosphere in order to make the jump scares scary.
>Plays on your paranoia, fear of the unknown, and numerous "wait, did I imagine that?" details in order to keep you on-edge
>All of which is completely lost in translation between game and youtube LP video
>/v/ watches the latter instead of actually playing the game
>DURRRRR ITS JUST JUMPSCARES, ITS TOTALLY SHIT
>HURR PEOPLE WHO DON'T SHARE MY OPINION ARE HIPSTERS
Or, you know, maybe some of us actually don't find the game scary at all? Maybe the jump scares have no effect, or have a different effect than intended and are just annoying? Maybe some of us find the concept interesting but the delivery makes it really silly and it feels like playing hide and seek with retarded malfunctioning robots?
Look at it this way, there are 3 steps in a good scare
the atmosphere makes you feel very uneasy. This can go on for long periods of time in games like Silent Hill. Nothing will jump out and scare you for a long time, but you be very uncomfortable most of the time - bonus points if you can't pinpoint WHY you feel so uneasy
something startles you or horrifies you. This can come out of nowhere or it can be built up. Loud sounds and spooky skeleton are sadly the norm, but a good jumpscare can be esential to a good horror game. It doesn't need to be a jumpscare though. Something really disturbing can happen that shakes you deeply (without having to startle you). Like in P.T where the ghost appears in just enough light for you to be able to see its profile and then it dissapears.
after being shaken by the horror, you will be on edge - preparing yourself mentally for when something happens again. All the elements from the Dread stage only serves to make you further paranoid, and you become your own worst enemy during this stage. It might never happen again, but that only makes you more cautious.
So yeah, a lot of games build around a jumpscare, and it can be done very right, but sometimes they rely too much on that alone.
Then why are Bonnie and Foxxy always drawn as girls? Like I get some people are into gender benders, but why is Freddy the only one who's consistently drawn as his correct gender?
an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear:
to shrink back from a mutilated corpse in horror.
intense, sharp, overmastering fear:
to be frantic with terror.
Horror leaves a city behind afterwards.
>have to do everything perfectly and keep track of 4 different enemies all the time
>one mistake and you're dead
>spooky as fuck
>GUYS WTF ITS ONLY A JUMPSCARE LOL
Jumpscare is a buzzword now and has lost all meaning
The characters can have genders you dingus.
>Bugs bunny isn't really a male you know, he's a cartoon character
No fucking shit sherlock. Are you sure you're not the one with autism?
Game is kind of decent.
qt fanart is good, though.
Only if you like
The game recently got 100 entries on pehael, it's even featured. Probably something is salvageable.
Depends on whether you're into all of the fetishes piled up to make it.
You bet your ass he is
Does anyone have the Freddy expand dong/why style pictures?
those always make me laugh
You really don't know how criticism works, do you?
Are you 12?
I'm sure you criticize games all the time. I guess all of your opinions are invalid because you can't make a better game.
Nice logic, bud.
It genuinely makes me feel kinda sick when I remember this
All I got Mr. Bond
>I enjoy all Transformers and Adam Sandler movies because I can't make my own movies
>if someone gives me a shirt with one sleeve longer than the other and 3 missing buttons, I instantly love it because, not knowing how to make a shirt, I have no point of reference
>I am basically retarded
Nothing gives me a good chuckle than typos and grammar errors in fan art.
I'm sure most people on /v/ will disagree with me but I think [email protected] got so famous is because it *doesn't* rely on jumpscares to scare you as much as other games.
The scariness comes through the fact that ultimately you are in charge of your own fate, but that it's so stressful to try and keep track of the robots. A single fuckup and you're dead. Unlike normal jumpscares where you're basically just walking around mentally preparing for a jumpscare you know will be unavoidable, in [email protected] you can actually beat the game without a single jumpscare.
The "jumpscare" when you lose is scary because you fucked up and because you're under a lot of stress
Furries are fucking degenerate scum, it's clearly they were too busy jacking off to animals to learn that kind of shit.
People who haven't played the game think the game consists of jump scares, when the only jumpscare you get is when you lose.
She should really eat that fucking apple.
>I am missing some
QUICK SOME ONE MAKE MORE
Jesus christ, eat a sandwich or something
I claim not to be autistic and bitching about them like you are implying I would. I would merely sell it and buy a different game. I wouldn't criticize it. Get off your high horse you double nigger.
>Not a meme
>Deducing that everyone has opinions, which isn't exactly hard to figure out
>Not deductive reasoning
>>HE'S ON /v/ HE MUST HATE VIDYA LULZ
>Not entirely misrepresenting my argument
You're an idiot.
Hey skeleton, wanna know something EVEN scarier?
I'm inside you at all times.
You have the power to read your own mind
Holy fuck how high are you right now
>tfw motherboards are designed the same way our brain is
We created computers in the images of ourselves.
Never implied that.
You're the one acting like you're better than me for allegedly not criticizing things. In fact, if you don't criticize things, you're really holding society back. Criticism is how things get better. We all know how MLK was all for staying quiet about the racism within the US. He didn't want to seem like he was bitching.
>opinions and criticizing are the same exact thing
>things said commonly on 4chan are suddenly memes
>deductive reasoning he must hate on vidya specifically because-
Keep shooting ;j
>We created computers in the images of ourselves.
>skynet eventually takes over
>thousands of years later their memories of us have been overwritten
>robot archaeologist finds a bible
>thinks "in his own image" is talking about humans and robot
Robot crusades against robot muslims commence.
>Things commonly said on 4chan
>Not memes within 4chan
Do you not know what a meme actually is or do you just think jokes that you don't like are memes?
>Having a negative opinion isn't criticism
You don't have to speak to be critical, bud.
holy shit anon calm down :^)
>implying I think I'm better than you
Nigger I'm merely saying I'm not autistic for criticizing(bitching) about video games. So what if I don't say negative things about other games? They're just not my cup of tea. Can't you accept that? Or is that horse to tall?
>Criticism is the equivalent of bitching
We should have never gone after Hitler. It just seemed like we were being bitchy when we told him to stop murdering millions of people.
>the atmosphere makes you feel very uneasy. This can go on for long periods of time in games like Silent Hill. Nothing will jump out and scare you for a long time, but you be very uncomfortable most of the time - bonus points if you can't pinpoint WHY you feel so uneasy
This, this and this.
Criticism is when you both give positive and negative opinions on something.
May mays are subjective as the only cancer taking them is reddit since you guys lurk here.
>Memes are subjective
Okay, you don't know what a meme is.
>Criticism is when you both give positive and negative opinions on something.
You don't need both positive and negative. Sometimes you don't always have something positive to say.
So you don't have a rebuttal?
If you honestly believe criticism is the equivalent of bitching, you're just plain retarded. End of story.
Also Godwin's Law has nothing to due with the validity of an argument.
Your horse is most definitely higher than mine, bud.
I guess you've never played Silent Hill then.
No cheap jump scare (I mean, there are some noises that will make you jump, but the game doesn't revolve around that).
The atmosphere, the tension is scary. So are the music and the sound effects. That's how you do a real survivor-horror. Not with 5 cheap predictable jump-scares every minute.
And rebuttal? That was merely a one sides opinion not someone saying "We'll what he could be doing might not be a bad thing in this sense"
I don't need a rebuttal for bullshit. And things seem to only be a meme when its convenient for you.
FUUCK if i would see that on the street i would fucking kick it. Imagine, it would be the once-in-a-lifetime chance to be able to literally break someone with your strength alone
>Meme: an element of a culture or system of behavior that may be considered to be passed from one individual to another by nongenetic means, especially imitation.
"b8" has been around for a good while and is most definitely a meme.
>Criticism: the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes.
The very first definition of criticism that I found. Criticism is based MORE on negativity than positivity.
Criticism is when you note the faults while explaining how it could be better. What you're implying is that I say something is shit and nothing else. Which I explained to you that I do not do. I merely would sell it and buy a new game. Is that so hard to understand for you?
>tfw I used to be anorexic
the skelton nearly won
I don't even play the game, and I find it hilarious.
wikipediait says that a '5th robot can be found under special circumstances'
is this true or just wiki being full of shit?
oh, it's just a different freddie? I was expecting a completely different animal
It's like he got every fucking genre except shooters and mashed them all together. I mean, what the fuck, is that a rhythm game at the top? I don't fucking even.
I'm stuck in this weird place where I fucking hate this game and all its shitty jumpscares and all the faggots on YouTube playing it, but also thinking the fanart and comics and stuff are pretty neat.
I have a folder for images from a game that I genuinely dislike, this is stupid.
Five Nights at Freddie's
Pretty decent spook game for 5 dollarydoos.
Prepare for jumpscares when you lose.
>doors and lights don't work
>don't look at the monitor
>power finally goes out
>Freddy starts Freddying
what the fuck, where am I supposed to be looking
I've only seen streams of the game, but I swear to God that fucking Duck makes me shit my pants. The way it looks in the cameras, the way it looks at the player in the little security booth, and in OPs pick.
I can handle the other animals, but the fucking Duck is 100% Satan.
Whoever made this game is really messed up.
A: he obviously needs the cash if he's taking a $120/week job
B: they tell you in game that they'll just stuff a robot in you if you wear a suit, because they think you're empty
C: this is pretty stale bait
Ironic shitposting is still shitposting.
It's not that great of a game, but saying "Well the story doesn't make any sense" would invalidate 95% of games.
Just click on one of them and then you can click through the rest.
a)He really needs this fucking job...if he didn't why the hell would he take it in the first place and then quit immeadiatley?
b)The asshole on the phone tells you that won't work because they shove a exoskeleton into the suit anyway...
This happens when you fuck up, after plenty of warning and anticipation.
It's a jump scare for sure, and I hate those because they're cheap, but this game uses them in the best possible way and I think I like the result a lot more than I expected I would.
yeah I'll just not demand anything from the 'artform' I 'appreciate'
how in the fuck is the job only 120$ a week? he works 6 hours a day every day
I guess I missed point B
shit doesn't matter it's fucking dumb regardless
the asshole on the phone gives you some basic information, but if you read the posters and shit on the cameras in-game they pretty much reveal phoneguy didn't know what the fuck he was talking about at all, and either somebody in a suit or one of the robots themselves killed five kids
Most of the time when something's haunted they don't particularly care about getting revenge on the person that killed them.
Or at least, in most instances of it I've seen.
The kids were the assholes all along.
The murderer probably thought he was doing the world a favor. Removing the devils children from this world, but the monster slayer made one mistake. As he needed to hide the newly slain bodies he could only find the suits of the shitty animatronics, leading that the corrupted souls could have a conduit to this world again.
That or it's just robots following company laws really hard.
I think you've confused me with someone who isn't me.
and yes, the internet now exists to tell everyone how special they are
Naw, they'll shove a robot in you.
This is so fucking cringeworthy. Who thought this was a good idea? Ugh.
Check the OP of the general. Don't feel like being hammered so quickly after my three-day vacation.
Really there are only three spots you should be looking. The squares in the top right (these are your clickable bonuses, one character is all about building these up and once you get your minigames overflowing the bonus bars next to them they fill on their own), the active character graphic (is proto shield on? If no, switch to blue robot and turn it on, this is what decides every battle), and finally the combat options when each robot's turn comes up.
The rest of the stuff, like enemy HP and charge bar, can be ignored, since all you need to do is to survive until you get all of the minigames up and get time into the autoplay button. Once that's done you have free bar recharges, you have faster turns (even more if you keep using the speedx2 buff from greenbot), and can spend points on things like invulnerability (good for if you lose proto wall and the blue bot before you can replace it, gives you time to get them revived, recharged, and to get proto wall back).
The secret boss is actually extra simple because it has no special abilities, it just attacks so hard that it instant kills your bots.
Porn of this game needs its own board.
A). Its Furry because of the robots.
B). The robots are possessed with the souls of children so that's loli/shota.
^Elements of /b/.
C). The characters are mostly depicted having a loving murderer personality.
^Some yandere bastard personality, a fitting element of /a/.
D). How many dead bodies are in those things anyway? That's necrophilia/guro right there.
E). Its horror/scare/terror porn too.
^These elements can be found in /d/.
So, I propose we make a new board for FNAF by combining three other boards.
Thus creating /bad/, the ultimate sanctum for FNAFags.
I once got an epic get myself. I salute you brother.
>D). How many dead bodies are in those things anyway? That's necrophilia/guro right there.
E). Its horror/scare/terror porn too.
^These elements can be found in /d/.
guro/necro isn't allowed on /d/ :(
Its just a jump scare at the end yes, but what makes it scary isn't the jump scare, its the tension. Watching those cameras makes you feel powerless, but its also very slow and methodical, it leaves you afraid of what's going to happen but not yet feel close enough to it to prepare for it. The Jump Scare in this case is like the punchline to a joke, its good because it capitalizes on the feelings the setup has created.
You say that like tension isn't the central factor of FFAF. The thing that fucks you over isn't the jump scare it is the fear of that scare. If that isn't a perfectly low tech example of atmospheric tension I don't know what is.
Sure you can be calm and collected throughout it and get through just fine, but that's the point. If you don't scare, you do fine and wonder what the fuss is about. If you panic, you lose and the game exploits the fuck out of you.
This guy gets it. Real life illuminati just want to make every person in the world a scientist. I don't know why but some people are against it. They want to keep folks in check. Don't believe the lies of the mainstream media. Illuminati wants to save the world.
I wonder who could be behind this post?
>MFW we're all just skeletons cosplaying as human beings
The framerate ran fine when I played it.
Not a rhythm game. The minigames are: A SHMUP, a click-the-targets game, a game where you just run into things for points (collecting ice cream from a truck), and finally an RPG. It just seems like it's that way because of all the shit flying around, especially with automatic mode turned on.
I didn't play FFAF, and I wasn't talking about FFAF specifically.
The guy I was quoting simply said "How are you supposed to get scared without jump scares?".
I meant that Silent Hill was scary even though it didn't rely on jump scares, whereas a lot of recent horror games really revolve around jump scares only.
Silent Hill is a proof that you CAN get scared without jump scares and screamers, with tension, atmosphere, a wicked bestiary and an amazing soundtrack and sound effects. In my opinion, THIS is how you do horror.
I won't say a thing about FFAF as I haven't played it.
I've never hunted, but I'm vaguely familiar with the effects of various weaponry on the body. I'd say many rounds could do that to a deer head since it's so small. It seems like an oversized round for what he's hunting though. I'd guess that it's similar in size to a .308 winchester round.
It was released for free previously, and is still up at http://www.izzygames.com/the-desolate-hope-t3605.html
Apparently this version is buggy though? Seemed fine when I played it. Also, x-ray goggles are a must to get to some of the bosses, even if you try to guess around, if only because it took me six game days to find bio-beta's final virus fight without them.
Everyone hates jumpscares, there's no doubt about that.
But this game does them in a better way than a lot of other games. They aren't random (for the most part) and only happen when YOU fuck up and let them reach the security room.
Having a jumpscare waiting around the corner builds tension and puts more stress on the player. Why blame a horror game for being this way?
Each pupper should hasve it's own "scream", not a generic ear-rape noise.
Fox should say: YO-HO! since he's a pirate.
Ducks should go: QUACK-QUACK ATTACK!
Bear should be a roar, so there is a generic noise but meh.
What should the others be?
I know, I thought about that when I was looking at the skeleton in the lab yesterday. It was either a manlet or a woman and I'm pretty sure it was a womans. I named her Dorothy. Hell of an overbite. Anyone wanna take a stab at her age when she died or what her new name should be?
>person wearing a fursuit gets eaten by a bear
>brain inside a skeleton inside an animal inside an animal inside a skeleton inside an animal
The thing is people on 4chan refuse to acknowledge the function of a jump scare. If jump scares were commonly absent, tension wouldn't have the any scariness. It's the gamble between the two that really creates a scary event. People just hate jump scares because they are abused.
I wish the game had the animatronics use their recorded stage audio in game but distorted.
Like Foxy's audio playing while he's banging on the door, or Chica's audio while she's digging in the kitchen.
>People just hate jump scares because they are abused.
This. There's a correct way to use jump scares, and FnaF does it. It brings the tension of something coming to startle you. The jumpscare itself isn't even scary, it's the fact that it's coming if you so much as fuck up in the slightest.
Not even the porn is the worst thing
It's the potential of the scare though. Without the scare, there would be no dread. You dread jumping in cold water? The event that causes dread is the shocking moment that is to come.
