EUROPA BARBARORUM 2 IS RELEASED
Remember to listen to this while reading this
I remember playing the shit out of rtw
the glorious battles
the glorious feels
holding that bridge with armored hoplites in egypt and reking egyptian armies by the millions
It's a total conversion mod for Medieval 2 Total War Kingdoms, a sequel to EB1 for Rome Total War that has been in development since 2007. Changes the game completely with a focus on historical realism, adds another shit ton of factions such as Baktria (a Greek kingdom in Afghanistan) and another new 8 ones for this version.
I know what I'm doing for the next few hours.
>1. The usual Rome 2 haters. Rome 2 had nothing terribly wrong with it, fantastic graphics and fps, balanced online (unlike Shogun 2), none of the bugs people rage about, even before patching. I asked 300 people and 297 people agreed with that statement. It was the media who hated on Rome 2, people like Angry Joe who made it look bad, and had to steal other people's clips because they could not find enough problems themselves. Also the game was a little overhyped.
It's not that it's terrible, but it is pretty bad. It was the most hyped up sequel to a PC game and it ended up crushing people's hopes far worse even than Spore did. People built high end PCs for it, waited 9 years, followed the videos and then saw the trainwreck that followed them.
Fucking slow as fuck torrent.
It's a detailed and historically accurate mod for the classical age. It usually goes through early republic to imperial Rome.
It'd be worth it yeah, though I wouldn't be surprised if you find it hard since it's pretty realistic.
This is wrong, it's 272 BC to 14 AD.
Yeah, though expect armies to be expensive and actually important. You can't have doomstacks like in vanilla TW and navies are also expensive as hell. It makes for a better game.
Cavalry aren't so horrifically overpowered unless they're lethal cataphracts.
Battles take a long time so it becomes all about flanking like it did historically.
When units are locked in combat they actually stay together instead of drifting apart into a stupid mass like in Rome 2.
Most factions start with a large army and undeveloped economy, you'll go into the red within 2 turns if you don't disband them all. The Seleucid campaign in 1 fucked me over with that, you can either march onto your enemies straight away or disband all your advanced units and have to rebuild from scratch while able to build up your economy.
Thank you muh men
For those who are goint to download M2, i used this the other day, fast and 1 clik install
this would be great if total war wasnt such a shit series
seriously, they NEED to do this with mount and fucking blade
all the rome mods sucks for it
>pleblian shitlord franchise
>THIS MOD IS GREAT GUYS
>YOU CAN MAKE BOXES OF TROOPS MOVE AROUND AND SLOW AS FUCK
>WHEN TWO BOXES COLLIDE "AKA BATTLE" YOU CAN TOTALLY SEE THE SIKK ASS CARNAGE OF SHIT GETTING REKT
yeah no. do this on mount and blade please
>Gracchus, give me a funky ass beat. Imma bout to drop this shit.
My hard disk is ready.
>If the game crashes, please remember to post the log and savegame where it happened in the tech help subforum, this will help us a lot. Along with a description of what you were doing when it crashed, obviously. But before you do that, remember to check if there are any hotfixes available - it might just be that your problem has been solved already.
Be a pal and help the modders out.
>ended up crushing people's hopes far worse even than Spore did
Now that's complete bullshit and exaggeration. Diablo III was a biggest overhyped and disappointing shit than Rome 2 and both doesn't compare to Spore.
It's subjective. Even though the Total War series has seen a rise in popularity it's still a game with a niche audience, but to that niche it might be way more disappointing than both Spore or Diablo 2.
>It was the most hyped up sequel to a PC game and etc
Then make yourself clear and put it into perspective because it lacked it there. I can agree that it was big blow to the fans of the series, because i'm myself included since i play it since Shogun.
I genuinely just find them very fun to play in EB1 and they were very unique in being a superpower beset on all sides by enemies.
DO YOU LIKE HAVING FUN?
DO YOU LIKE UNITS THAT LOOK LIKE THEY SMEARED THEIR OWN SHIT ON THEMSELVES?
DO YOU LIKE TO REWRITE HISTORY?
ARE YOU A NORMAL PERSON AND NOT MASSIVELY AUTISTIC?
IF YOU ANSWERED NO TO ALL THOSE QUESTIONS THIS IS THE MOD FOR YOU.
I'm watching the first season on Prime right now.
Oh. I STILL SEE CARDBOARD SWORDS.
The show is well written, and the acting was nicely done
So props weren't 100% legit, it was a good show
If I want to train a specific unit I should be allowed to, no artificial limits. Just make the units really expensive so if I have a huge empire I should be able to pay for it.
Yes very playable some dodgy problems here and there due to a larger player base now discovering bugs and glitches. Team already working on CTD's and bug fixes aswell as a 1.1
Prussiaboos and to an extent all Napoleonicfags. If I have to listen to one more fucking second of arguing whether or not a Jaeger was misrepresented because of not having the EXACT fucking shade of green coat then I'm going to flip a table.
>tfw there will never be a new season
FUCK YOU MAFIA FOR BURNING DOWN THE SET. FUCK YOU BBC FOR NOT EXTENDING THE CONTRACT. FUCK YOU MONEY GRABBING JEWS FOR INFLATING THE BUDGET TO UNSUSTAINABLE LEVELS.
Yes I'm still mad 7 years later.
>"I discovered halfway through writing the second season the show was going to end. The second was going to end with the death of Brutus. Third and fourth season would be set in Egypt. Fifth was going to be the rise of the messiah in Palestine. But because we got the heads-up that the second season would be it, I telescoped the third and fourth season into the second one, which accounts for the blazing speed we go through history near the end. There's certainly more than enough history to go around"
Me and my friend had an England RP campaign when we were like 12. Including offline war plans, royal edicts(with fake stamps) and economic plans. The paper is full of tea stains and controlled burns to make it look like an old document. We conquered the entirety of western europe extending towards the Balkans. We had peasants fucking EVERYWHERE. We had maybe 6 fulls tack elite armies and the rest were militia and peasants as garrison units.
We did real good.
Anyone else miss the incest mechanic from MTW1?
No idea why they removed it. It happened in EVERY royal and noble family in those days.
And they will never release hard-coded features to the modding community so they could at least try to make some amazing mods that would fix their craptastic game
Imagining what the modders could do to RTW2 if it was moddable gives me a semi.
Unfortunately the old time favourites like Kong and Darth have retired from modding along with their teams.
If it's one thing I really miss from Medieval 1 it's how rebellions worked. Instead of randomly spawning stacks of well trained armies, your disloyal Generals turned against you, using the armies you had given them. That simulates really well why rebellions are devastating.
That was a good one aswell.
The events seemed a lot cooler aswell. The hand drawn images and sound effects. The accurate death toll was cool.
It's also a war map so it looks like how a medieval king would see his kingdom in books and maps.
M2TW/kingdoms with mods is even better in most respects.
Someone post turn times so we can build a consensus, I can't be fucked downloading and isntalling it just to find out that it takes 1 min per turn.
No one really knows, but being able to play it on a tablet means the game was released with those intentions all along.
And Rome 2's engine was made for Gunpowder Total War games such as Empire/Napo/FoTS.
AI in TW games has always been pretty shitty, and they just resort to AI cheating/altering stats.
Rome 1's engine for combat was just fine, a few things wrong with it, but if they had just worked on bugs/problems from Rome 1, and just bring it to a slightly newer engine.
I'm sure it would have gotten a lot more positive feedback
The reason why R2 is shit is because they rushed it out, it's as simple as that.
No one is going to tell me that the engine that made N:TW, albeit updated, couldn't make R2 without it being in it's current state.
And the end of the day the fanboys got what they wanted, Rome 2.
Even though anyone with a bit of sense could have told you the logical conclussion of the Warscape Engine was Victoria/Empire 2 TW.
I don't think there's any good ancient egypt mods for a TW game
I mean the closest you could get is something that might include them as a sidefaction or their skeletons in the Warhammer mod
Nice to see Syracuse having walls again.
>I wouldn't bother with Shogun 1 personally
>Medieval 1 is my favourite so I'm biased, defo get the Viking invasion expansion though, it's superior to the M2 version IMO
>Rome you'll either love it or find it boring, get mods.
>Medieval 2 vanilla is boring get mods, Kindoms on it's own can be fun, mods too
>Empire is shit IMO
>N:TW is just better in every respect, it also has the best multiplayer of any TW
>S2 is okay, i personally find it too fast paced for melee combat. FotS the expansion is pretty fun, though the land battles can get boring, the naval battles are fun, especially if you like explosions.
>R2 in its 'current' state I've been told is playable, there's lightweight modding on steam workshop, I probably wouldn't recommend R2 since I don't think CA should get your money, but you'll have to decide for yourself on this one, I personally think it's a better game that Rome vanilla although I never particulary liked Rome 1, obviously not as good modded
Posting best song.
>decided to play as Mongols for a few turns
>didn't have to move from where I was standing because archers have retardedly good range and THEN I have horse archers to back them up
I didn't recommend EB to him because if he's never played Total War games before, it's not best to start out with a mod like EB
And I'm not fucking complaining about R1 because it's my favorite out of the whole series.
>all the dead faithful at the hands of the Mongols
fucking monsters torn the middle east a new one, I only managed to stop them at my capital, couldn't catch them with my guys in heavy armor, everyone without heavy armor stood no chance against that many arrows
They only succeeded because of the power vacuum that was present at the time and the fact that there was no legitimate opposition.
And right after Europe got it's shit together, but Atilla was basically GOAT at what he did. He saw an opportunity and seized it.
I just realised it's been almost a year since R2 came out, CA development cycles means we might get a new game announcement before the years up.
Would you cross shekels across CA's hand again it was a WH40K game?
No. CA is permanently on my blacklist.
If they manage to have another good game, it'll be a fluke like Shogun 2. I'll pirate it. It'll be a waste of time giving them money as they clearly cannot learn to include basic fucking UI features in their sequels.
You played it when it was least playable, much like the vast majority of people who complain about it, and state it as a fact its still not playable.
Yes Rome 2 had a terrible launch, but its been more than playable for awhile now.
They managed to pull Fall of the Samurai, so I might support them.
I'll wait until after launch though, and I'm certainly not buying into the jewing they'll pull with the Warhammer DLC potential
>a WH40K game?
I'm still waiting for the Warhammer Fantasy game. It's in my bargain bin wishlist.
Depends on your definition, I suppose. I can't stand playing it for a couple of minutes, therefore it's unplayable.
>mfw just a couple days ago someone said that not only have mods fixed rome 2, but it is now better than rome 1
>biggest walls of ANY greek city of its time
>artillery scattered all over the sea walls
>fucking claw of archimedes
>unwalled city in rome 2
it was at this point I realized everything was to go downhill
Unless the core game has been changed: the innumerable terrible decisions made on the campaign map, worse graphics and running worse than Shogun 2, family tree added, etc. Then it's still not playable.
None. You can't change the fucking UI in Rome II. It's hard coded to be shit.
You wish you had Shogun 2's city management screen.
i believe its photoshopped
ui in game is hardcoded and cannot be changed, along with many other things. CA hate mods and have done everything they can to fuck the modders with each release.
Shows you how much of a step backward Rome II is from Shogun 2.
Their style of warfare is completely worthless once they get to Germany.
Imagine trying to shoot someone, only to have the trees obscure your arrow, your formations have broken and are now in a brutal melee, and all of a sudden a Bavarian man named 'Hans' comes out of nowhere with a sword the size of you standing on your friend's shoulder and decapitates your horse, then bashes your skull in with a mace. Your friends try to recuperate, only to find a mob of peasants with clubs hiding in the bushes who proceed to murder them as your main host is ridden down by the terrible offspring of tanks and horses.
Western European warfare was pretty respectable.
Damn right. The whole politics system is still a fucking piss-poor effort of actual politics compared to what it should have rightfully been. It's barely even on par with the original Rome in terms of complexity
Medieval 2 had that limit because the mechanic was based on feudal levies, which you could not train from scratch the way Romans trained their standing armies. So, hopefully, for the sake of historicity, the limit will be removed.
tfw no good game to be a redcoat in
tfw im bored of /gsg/ map painting now
now i have nothing
It's funny how CA basically sabotaged their own game.
I mean, it should be a no brainer to have a family tree for a time period that spans hundreds of years. Shogun 2 didn't really need a family tree, but Rome certainly does!
Or the unit cards in battles. Maybe it SHOULDN'T take up a third of the screen? Maybe an advisor SHOULDN'T be popping in every time a unit gets a little on edge?
It's the little things that kill Rome II. The things that would normally be fixed by mods but for some reason cannot be.
I liked Shogun 2's sieges. I didn't really have a problem with them.
Rome II's sieges? Nope.avi
Hell, there's not a single kind of battle that is enjoyable in Rome II.
>tfw no fps game where you command around a line in battles of thousands of soldiers
All I want is to feel like I'm in the middle of the battle of Waterloo, is that so much to ask?
Shogun 2 sieges weren't that good imo, considering you could assault a castle the same turn you besieged it, because secret samurai wall scaling suction cups. It made the campaign too rushed as well.
FoTS sieges were great though, simply because of the massive artillery bombardments to leave the castles in a smoking ruin
That's certainly understandable.
What I liked about Shogun 2's sieges was that the forts were pretty open and had multiple layers, kind of like the higher tier castles in Medieval 2.
Although unlike Medieval 2 you didn't have to drag siege equipment everywhere to get at the inner layers.
But again, I can understand why the samurai suction cups were immersion breaking.
I was told both Rome 1 and M2 run on a single core
In their time, it actually wasn't the Huns that did the most damage to the Romans. When Attila revved up his rape horses, a fuck ton of other barbarian tribes flooded into Europe just to get the fuck out of the way, which brought them into conflict with the Romans. By the time they had to deal with Attila, they were already pretty worn out.
Also, are Huns in the game?
>Needs to be installed to the Medieval 2 directory where the M2 EXE is
>That's the directory I chose
>But it put itself into a mod folder
TW is shit anyway
>Cept from mercs
>mfw medieval mercs
They're actually all shit. It's not like the Golden company in ASoiF as much as it was the sparrows.
>tfw Archer units with wooden stakes are one of the most importants units in M2
you need the launcher mod
then go to this page
the latest patch actually broke a lot of shit and made some mods unplayable.
>mfw installing EB in Rome is literally just dump installing everything in the folder then adding the mod start option
I don't remember all the problems I had with it off the top off my head, I'd have to play it again. The map was really shitty, but that's to be expected in a TW, and the Romans were far too overpowered.
one of my biggest dissappointments about rome 2 was something that i was genuinely excited about: the idea of an army that gains stats through time. In my head i was thinking the 13th, that over the generations they became legendary and the best to be a part of it and the pride in its history game them incentive to be better and have status, etc.
instead, it's all tied to a general that dies after a handful of turns and there is zero continuity, so it just becomes a pointless gimmick.
>tfw away from muh pc for several weeks and then this happens
At least I can be happy for all y'all. Anyone know any entertaining total war lp's?
It was asymmetrical game-play that required you to fight differently depending on which faction you where and which army you fought, but there was never a real issue with balance beyond the AI being easy. If it had real campaign MP it would be GOAT.
The map, was okay at the time, but other games did do it better. In fact loads better.
I just didn't like that when I played as the Romans I could wipe out doom stacks of Guals with a handful of Hastai. One of the things I liked the most about EB was that I could get my ass kicked as Rome.
well, the romans did kick the shit out of the gauls in nearly every instance..
but beyond that, did you make it to the endgame, when you had to fight the other two roman factions?
>pikes are still fucked up
>8 years of dev time
Why bother? Just play Shogun 2.
