Name a more atmospheric place in vidya
>you will never play Yume Nikki for the first time ever again
well what are you doing dicking around on /v/? go fucking work on it! don't give me any lame-ass excuses, just do it!
Imagine what a game like LSD could be with modern graphics / engines.
Shame there's not enough interest to make it happen
It certainly is.
I don't understand tumblr's obsession with it though. Pretty much everything about it that they fawn over they made up in their heads.
Of course I can.
Kinda sad that the game was a mediocre RE clone.
The library part was relaxing in a way.
Zone 3 was nightmarish, christ the final half of that zone was really quite unnerving. Especially since I decided to grind to get all the gear in Zacharie's shop and having to spend time killing all those burnts in the hallways of Area 4 with that fucking battle track.
And FUCK the purified zones.
Sugar's battle was a bit off too.
The Room was creepy as well, but I think that was because I was realising what was going to happen. The battle with The Queen is fantastic.
God this game nailed atmosphere really well, just sorry that tumblr shat it up.
I'll throw 2kki in. Shit also has some good and atmospheric places.
It is, low poly makes for great unintentional horror, though some of it was obviously meant to be spoopy.
I still think a newer rendition would be interesting to see
I actually did attempt making something like that before my current project, and essentially built something that could be used to create a 3d yume nikki (top down 3d, effects, etc...) I stopped working on it to work on smaller projects and learned a lot more, so after this project I think I'll rework some of it and proceed. I even made some music for it back then https://soundcloud.com/fadegame-1
It's a game left to interpretation, and retards are the most vocal.
That song rendition of the song is so damn depressing.
>That last battle
>If you use special attacks, it sounds like bones broken HARD
I-I felt like a fucking monster.
It really isn't all that deep
What you have here is a girl who who dreams about dick monsters and
kills herself at the end.
The transsexual theories and all that other shit are dumb, and I won't say that the rape theory is necessarily certain.
But the game is full of dicks, fetuses and monsters with sexual overtones.
zeno clash 2 was pretty fucking great, though maybe less for "atmosphere" and more for the sheer creativity of the art and designs, it was pretty much not derivative of anything I've ever seen, except when it wanted to be, like how some things having to do with the golems obviously take elements from earlier civilization
the corvids were cool as fuck too
>No has ever pissed you off like pic related
>mfw I beat Sugar
>at level 16
It was so jarring coming there from the rest of the game, which was funny as hell. Even then it kept that humor.
>Your future is a bit blurry, I'll just need a little bit more of your blood
>I flipped my shit when I ran into that Burnt in the closet.
Was that the one where the music box was?
Took me by surprise.
Does make me wonder what the music box meant, and why Zacharie wanted it, considering it's the only time you see that monster. Or whatever.
I don't think I've ever come to a conclusion with anything in OFF. Everyone's theories seem to take things way too literally, but I can't really ever come up with my own theory.
For such a simple game, it can get pretty spooky.
I-I didn't realise that you should've poisoned Sugar, just kept on battering her until she was dead. But then again I'm usually in my twenties when I reach her, so she isn't too much trouble, just takes a while.
Feels bad that killing her only rewards you something that you really need - a chance for a "joke" ending or a bat that you don't even really need.
Yume Nikki is about a young girl being haunted by a fuck-ton of dream spirits, like Demonophobia except dying lets her escape.
I kinda assumed she was immune to poison, due to the whole RPG-status-effects-are-useless trope.
Turns out it's pretty much the most broken effect in the entire game.
I think there's a reason why there's nothing critical for killing her. You don't have to.
She's one of the few things you can leave alive, depending on the ending you pick.
From the guy who translated the game:
>“I will not let you lay a hand on the son that we have brought into the world” is wrong.
>It is actually “I will not let you lay a hand on the son that has brought us into the world”.
“I will not let you lay a hand on the son that has brought us into the world”.
>you don't kill
your sonat the end, you kill God.
The whole dream sequence will only be the first half of the game. The second half involves crying because Yume Nikki will never be updated.
Is this a pseudo yume nikki thread? Because I'll take what I can get when it comes to yume nikki.
People are discussing other games with nice atmosphere / rpg2003 stuff, but sure
Why did she do it? What's behind the door in the normal world? ANSWER ME
I still want to know why suddenly, official Yume Nikki-related things were being made. Maybe there might be a Yume Nikki ONA coming soon too?
>And FUCK the purified zones.
The difficulty spike in the purified zones threw me off the first time. I though I could just cruise through the zone for exploration and then suddenly, ASS RAPE at every corner.
Loved the boss track
if you choose to fight the crazed batter at the end.
Wow, that's quite the difference.
Does that mean that
since every character, including the batter (according to the correct translation, and other in game dialogue) was created (brought in to the world) by the imagination of the sick boy (the world's effective God), the boy/God wanted to end his own existence? Since from the time of the world's inception it has become exceedingly 'sick'
Oh, there's a YN doujin out right now that isn't as awful as you may expect. Or maybe I'm just desperate. Link in email field, if anyone is interested
Unironically and legitimately, I have never played Yume Nikki, but it seems interesting. From what I can tell, it's a VN about a girl who kills herself and goes to hell?
Yes, I can easily google what it is and what it's about, but I want someone to explain it to me.
The only VN I've ever played was Katawa Shoujo
>there will never be an official Yume Nikki anime/movie with no dialogue and 10/10 music and animation
This shit here alone got me to play it.
>Hugo brings him, the Queen and the guardians into existence to rebuild a broken world
>The Batter kills everyone, bats Hugo to death and
the switch is now on OFF.
>implying this is doing nothing wrong
The Batter was a maniac. And also a spectre.
How did you get it running?
I ran into a ton of issues with java
Yume Nikki is as far from a VN as a not-game can possibly get. There's like, 10 words throughout the game as a whole (counting the menus and instructions) and there's no dialogue.
Keep a log of what you experience.
Yume Nikki has a lot of really interesting, atmospheric and unnerving places.
Pathologic is also one of the most atmospheric games in my memory. The whole town is strange, creepy and sometimes defying the laws of physics itself.
It told me I needed an older version of Java (6 I think) so I downloaded it and it ran fine.
It's not a VN. It's an exploration game made in an old version of RPGmaker.
It's has very surreal and sometimes disturbing imagery and music, and has no dialogue or story. The narrative if entirely left up to player to decide if it exists or not.
Many people love it, but since it's not very conventionally "game-y" and it can be frustrating/confusing, many people also dislike it. It's an extremely niche game.
You should really just download it and experience it for yourself late at night.
Because he was a spectre, not a puppet.
Heck, Pablo even says he has "no physical order". And the encounter with Sugar, her calling the batter a "scary ducky" or something like that then in the special ending him having a fuckhuge duckbill mouth.
But yes, it was the player's fault.
That is really stupid
Does anyone remember the name of this spin off game?
The main character's name was Chie, I'd like to replay it
It could be well-done remixes of the original soundtrack, something like the album 24 EFFECTS. Or it could be something completely new.
Hell, I think the imagery in YN is so good that it probably wouldn't even need music.
You're thinking of LcdDem, another of the more popular YN fan games.
Anyone else here been building a dream world? It's pretty fun.
When I first got to the ending I was a bit confused before hearing of the translation error. It seemed to imply that
The Queenand The Batterwere his actual parents and that would've meant taking the game more literally which at that point I hadn't and it just felt odd. I mean sure it's easy enough to play it off as "it's all in Hugo's mind and they are just representations" but whatever.
Maybe it's just me but it made more sense that actually knowing that
The Batter and The Queenweren't actual people made it easier to understand that the whole game is just one big metaphor or something. I dunno.
Nope, but while searching for that I found out that the name is Lcd dem, so thanks
What do you mean "building a dream world"? Like a game or something?
>sexualizing YN is any way, shape, or form
YOU BETRAYED THE LAW
>it's all in Hugo's mind and they are just representations
That was made kinda obvious at the end, in my belief. Hugo 'brought' them there. It's Hugo's world and, in other context, Hugo's mind.
The Batter and the Queen were parental figures to me too, and now I have to think if it really does still makes sense.
Desolate waste brought upon by a vampire's refusal to die, scarcely populated by scared humans and predatory, half-insane vampiric fledlings.
Plus you can still see the remains of the old world, with sunken citadels, lighthouses and long abandoned roads.
It's fucking perfect, haven't seen anything quite as atmospheric. Well, actually I have (first MGS, YU-NO, Gothic) but this one stands out the most.
>not the purest form of faggotry
I want tumblr to leave.
I only have one shitty picture and you can't stop me
I kept a dream diary once, if that's what you mean. Though, none of the dreams I wrote down had much of an impact on me at all.
When I was a small child, I once dreamed
of my older brother, who I looked up to, beating me to death with his own bare hands, I was blind, but I knew I was dying and that my own brother was killing me. He was screaming at me, holding me down with his own weight as he repeatedly pummeled my face until I woke up crying in fear.
I should start another dream diary.
Yume 2kki is the best fan game, followed by LCD Dem and .flow.
You guys did find the new area that takes
40 minutes to get to right?
>best Yukke Nimi
Like a happy place maybe? Like a world you create inside your head even?
get that edgy indie game out of there
Nah, it seems off to me too. Don't even know why I have that saved, imagine I was drinking
You're fucking with me, right? Just an epin ruse, right?
I think everyone does that, anon.
ill fockin knock the bizcuits off ur gabber m8 swaer on the fuckin queen
That's either insane or cute, anon.
I want to believe cute
>not the depths
I still can't find the damn underground.
Exploring, mainly. A lot of people enjoy the sense of wonder and fulfillment discovery brings. Also the bizarre imagery and music. Easy to understand why some people wouldn't be into it, though.
>Be the guy who took this image
>Had to switch brand of pills because the ones I usually take stopped working
You select the game difficulty IN THE GAME ITSELF
That's pretty fuckin' neato
Quite a bit, it would seem. But the game just isn't for everyone, if you don't like it that's fine.
Try again and make sure to get the bike early on and interact with your environment as much as possible
Lats time I went there like half a year ago, it was as dead as dead can be. Not sure how it is currently, though.
Soul Reaver was so fucking good.
I like how they portrayed the humans in the first one, either strays that are scared shitless, or crazed survivalists trying to protect whatever the have left from a vampire armageddon.
did someone say cute girls doing spooky things
There were also humans in the walled-off citadel, who kneel on their knees when Raziel approaches if you've been treating human hunters well.
Soul Reaver is, without a doubt, a masterpiece of atmosphere. There isn't a single tree or a patch of green in this game.
Make it harder next time
Lowering both games to a simple description of 'walking simulator' pretty much just chops away anything that makes either game good (Never played Gone Home, so I can't tell you whats good about it) and focuses on the sparse game play. Which is what neither of the games are truly about.
You become conditioned to be slightly creeped out by everything you find, and it's incredibly immersive if you let yourself y'know...immerse
If you don't like to adventure for the sake of adventuring then i wouldn't bother, it's not for you
I'm a medically diagnosed insomniac, trying my best here. But I only take herbal/chinese medicine stuff so I don't think it'd be that bad. I thank you for the concern though. Yume Nikki threads are always so chill. I don't want to derail the thread with my shit if that's okay.
>love RPGmaker games, one of my favourite genres
>want to like YN but can't get past the walking simulator part
Sorry /v/, I truly truly tried but I need something with my nice environments; puzzles, dialogs, a narrative, anything.
Not really, but it's a different genre.
I like Yume Nikki but hate Gone Home.
Gone Home isn't interesting, it's about exploring a house with 90's references and following the trail of some lesbian teen's diary notes. Nothing about it is appealing.
Whereas in Yume Nikke, you're exploring a depressed, suicidal girl's dreams, with a lot of surreal imagery, music, sounds, and characters that make it interesting and fun to explore.
It's definitely not as atmospheric as yume nikki but crypt worlds certainly got me thinking a lot after playing it
There are tons, and I mean TONS of things to find within the game. Events, easter eggs, effects, etc.
But honestly, if you simply don't enjoy looking at strange imagery or exploring, you really won't enjoy Yume Nikki.
And because gone home has a shitty narrative, lasts literally 2 minutes, and has 0 replayability. There is just absolutely nothing interesting to discover other than your sister being a carpet muncher.
Also it's kind of unfair to compare gone home to YN, since GH is a first-person pseudo-puzzle game, while YN is a third-person exploration game.
>Go into thread to mention Irisu Syndrome
>For once in my life, not the only person to talk about it
Thank you kind anons
Worlds. It's the most popular archaeological tourist spot created in the 90s. You can wander through its artificial halls wonder what the fuck was wrong with people in the 90s.
>play Yume Nikki
>every since I have had recurring dreams
>in the sense that every dream is like a direct sequel to the previous, and the same locations and people (made up or not) keep their memories and it feels like leading a second life whenever I fall asleep
This can't be healthy, it's been a year and a half.
There is nothing wrong with not liking a certain game genre. Although it's kind of stupid to call YN a "walking simulator", when like 90% of games simulate walking.
Just worlds online, you may have to google-fu a little to find anything worth while about it.
It's a 1995ish? game that tried a 3d chatroom with letting people create their own areas, now they're all abandoned, there's a deal of religious stuff in a lot of them, and some of them are just creepy.
I'm only saying what I've heard, though, I may be wrong
Ever17 was boring and none of the characters were really well-developed; despite a great end-game twist, the rest of the game leading up to it is subpar and teases you with interesting content (like Kid's freak-out or the dead hamster) only to shove you back into mediocrity
Sounds fun, but I can see why it'd get tiresome. Go to a psychiatrist if it bothers you?
Found it! Looks like PSX LSD game took a shit all over second life. It's weird though. Just from looking up images and videos, I get a sense of melancholy, like a snapshot of time long gone (dated graphics, content generated by people years ago and now abandoned). The fact that it's old and forgotten adds to the atmosphere. I think.
This could all be me projecting though. Is it worth a try?
Why wouldn't it be? If it doesn't inconvenience you , or cause any physical or mental symptoms, I don't see why it's unhealthy.
Yeah, no. Bad idea.
This game is a mess but I really liked moments like that. That was one of the few places that felt like it had a coherent theme and message. Makes me wonder if this game is complete, would we have had a lot more areas like that? It's impossible to recommend this to anyone because most of the game is filled with sloppy giant looping voids with random sprites placed around them. Navigating them was a pain in the ass as it meant you just had to walk until you knew you went a full circle, then go down a screen a repeat until you find something of importance. This, the forest, the weird lake, and the subway are some of the few places that I actually remember well because they were actual areas.
It's literally just a walking simulator.
There are some interesting places but you have to spend a while looking for some cool stuff.
I like weird early 3D stuff so I revisit the game now and then.
I had problems with java, so I wouldn't know.
I imagine it'd be neat to look around an ancient part of the internet, even if it isn't all that creepy.
All the same I've heard it's extremely creepy, but hey, nothing to lose.
https://mega.co.nz/#!wAIkWLAI!WRmRUQYvJrvOpJxveme7kIIHJIVMcTO0vtDtDIxhOb0 It's a travel guide of sorts.
The game is stuck on version .10, so it's far from being complete. It hasn't been updated in years though.
Stop being a pussy and just play it. There are no screamers, if that's what you're asking.
FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE FACE
That is a pretty hard to find area without guides, and I wouldn't really consider it a screamer since it kinda fades into the screen, and the sound it makes isn't really that loud.
Don't get me wrong -- it's disturbing, but not really startling like screamers tend to be.
Alright, fine. That beat is pretty dope, though.
>decide I'll play Yume Nikki again after playing previously for about an hour and just walking nowhere
>go through one of the first doors with a forest inside
>crazy moving image on the floor
>puking ghosts or something
>interact with them and they leave a floating image on you
>doesn't appear to have any effect
>go through pillars
>now completely different place
>creepy woman is following me
>try interacting with weird thing in the middle of the room
>creepy woman touches me and I get locked away
I don't get this
>/v/ is fine with calling this a game but goes ballistic when people call Gone Home a game even though it has more elements that are traditionally game like
gee I wonder why?
The "point" of the game is to experience weird shit like what you described. There is tons of it in the game, alongside collecting effects, witnessing events, finding easter eggs, etc.
It's really not that all complicated. People find YN enjoyable for the same reason they find something like Morrowind enjoyable; the exploration and discovery.
There's a 1 in 64 chance of finding Uboa every time to flip the switch, but I suppose if someone was unlucky enough to trigger it the very first time they flipped the switch, it could count as an inevitable "screamer".
You don't need to be high to enjoy the game
that's what I did do.
I found it creepy and intriguing, but it seems extremely vague and would take a while to figure out what to do.
I'm not sure I can ever play it for long though as I get really affected by horror and playing for extended periods would make me too stressed out.
I used to be the same. After a long time has passed and the game has become a memory, anytime you play it again will, for whatever reason, stop being completely horrifying and be nostalgic and strangely comforting.
Because Yume Nikki's entire "story" is completely subjective and isn't full of tumblr shit like some people would have you believe. It's also free.
Fuck you don't use Capella to shitpost.
Gone Homo is a game, alright. Just a very shit one.
And people actually like Yume Nikki because for one, you're not charged money to play it. And second, it's actually interesting and fun to someone who enjoys the exploration genre.
If you want to talk about Gone Home, start a thread, it was / is still talked about with no less shitposting than you're providing this thread with right now
>You'll never fuck a bird lady in your dreams
Sounds good to me. Wish people would stop comparing gone homo with YN, but hey, it's /v/ after all.
All time favorite YN picture coming through
At least you can distinguish both lives from one another. My dreams are so like my normal life that sometimes I don't know if some of my memories are dreams or real life.
I remembered I killed someone by stabbing the other day. I think it was a dream but the more I remember it the more vivid it is and I just don't know any more. I want to get off the ride
Just dive in blind and see if you like it. It's a really niche game though, so don't be surprised if you don't.
CRAWWWWWWWWWWLING IN MY ENB
THESE FILTERS WILL NOOOT HEAL
There can be some nice atmospheric places in some of theses fangames.
Haven't tried ultra violet yet.
>tfw no 2kki love
I like .flow and yume nikki better anyway
My dreams are strange. Not in the normal "dreams are weird" way, but in the fact that it is strangely real. Twisted versions of reality, things that are but not quite right, things that aren't but could be, streets and buildings, odd sizes and weird ways they connect. I'd love some 3D first person game based off it, especially if you get cool dream powers for travel, like walking up walls, no fall damage, flying, stuff like that.
If you say so, I like most of it.
What community would you say has good fan art?
Because she has to show us that message quickly before she pukes
Sort of, kind of.
Currently doing the dream diary stuff for multiple reasons, least of which is lucid dreaming.
Eventually want to build my own personal Silent Hill/Yume Nikki type world that I can get lost in.
I love LOVE Yume 2kki more than any other fangame or Yume Nikki itself.
2kki is like an encapsulation of everything I love. It seriously bugs the shit out of me when there isn't any new update coming soon.
Moonside had a pretty good atmosphere
The problem with yume nikki fanart is that there's too much of it and nobody doing it seems to understand the spirit of the game. Most of it seems to seep into fanfiction territory and memery.
Okay fine geeze I'm downoading it now.
Most of the art is as vague as the game itself, if we're talking passable fan art, even this thread has examples of that
I enjoy both YN and Gone Home. I think YN is a lot more interesting, but both are pretty cool.
There's literally nothing wrong with enjoying different video games from the people around you.
Yume nikki has too much exposure for what it is, an abstract little exploration game. Autismal shit like this >>257641648 leaves a sour taste in my mouth about the entire thing for me because the original project is so humble.
Isn't in the actual game, just a little joke by the artist.
Yeah, I can see what you mean. Still, I think much of the YN fanart is damn good, like pic related.
Judas fucking priest.
Probably just the name of that getup. Forgot what it was called, though.
The Witch's House.
All off the top of my head.
>making an AA2 based on madotsuki
>sexualizing the madotsuki
>The Witch's House
>Anything like Yume Nikki
Ib, Undertale and of course .flow are the only ones that are even close to being similar to Yume Nikki. Granted, they're all good games except maybe Mad Father and Lisa, but still.
Witch's House was straight-up horror and puzzles.
who /wada/ here
yes i know it's tumblr shit, but fun things are fun
It's a representation of the black void we all share in our souls when we realize that we can never truly be connected to one another, since the only way we can share ideals and emotions is via words and pictures. You can't make someone else truly know how you feel, because words tend to fail to describe the more complex emotions.
The ping pong pallets represent two people talking to each other. The ball represents a thought or emotion, going back and forth between the two. The ball is never allowed to go through by the pallets, and when it does go through, the game resets.
Pong has the deepest lore.
He said he played OFF as well, so I have examples of other games that were spooky, had a narrative, puzzles, and were made in RPGmaker.
As long as she has Highest Purity she'll be fine. I had Madoka in mine and after three class cycles she still never even had a single sexual encounter.
Meanwhile Homura ended up yandere for the biggest slut in class
It's because of the ending. It has enough shock value that people will go for really drastic head canon as to explain it.
Because the game is already full of monsters that look like cocks and there is uncomfortable shit like that poster that looks like someone being forced to suck dick people go for all the suspected issues such as rape.
Im sure theres a shitload of interest, just dont expect to be the next cod.
Plus why would you make a game like that hoping for success? Thats the type of game made from passion and creativity, not wanting money.
>I didn't play it, but I just watched a speedrun
Just how stupid can one anon be? Find out with the post I'm replying to!
>I just watched a speedrun
I'm going to go play video games just so I can stop being so mad at you being such an unholy, flaming faggot.
I know, right? Dark carbon-grey looks great in shirts and hoodies.
I'd give that fucker all my shekels.
It's my favorite part of the game. It's a shame that the dungeon is a similar theme to an earlier one. The game is pretty sick though, you can swap tiles in the post game and find all sorts of cool shit.
What are some surreal-ass games I can get a bit into while on pain killers?
I want to have an experience and shit.
Already played Crypt Worlds.
Here's a few more
>working on a game because Yume Nikki inspired me
>trying my best to convey the same feeling that YN gave me
>mfw it' HARD AS FUCK and I can't be half as creepy as Kikiyama
I've read about a lot of crazy dreams and have had a few of my own but it's really really hard to convert it into a game.
Have a steam key for it since it's on steam and you're the only one still around:
I still remember the first time I played through Ib. As luck would have it, I ended up scoring well, to the point that Garry was completely fine the whole game, even beat the puppet part no problem. Of course, fuck my life that Mary was my favorite character and I had to fucking burn her painting to continue on. I can never replicate the feeling I felt then, nor can I forgive myself for hurting my daughteru.
holy fuck, you're dumb as shit. seek professional help.
The cliff that time forgot sends shivers down my spine
Dude that has to be the most obvious bait post I've ever seen.
Myst 1, 2 and 3 had GOTY atmospheres attached to them.
>There will never be realRiven
>Don't fucking say StarryExpanse because you know that's not getting finished.
>mfw Riven actually still looks decent in today's standards.
Cyan is unfortunately as dead as dicks.
They started that Kickstarter for that game Obducted or whatever it was called, which looked like Myst on an Alien planet, but that only got 3/4's of the goal.
Fucking kids and their shooters.
I bet you shove pennies up your ass because you think you're a piggy bank.
