You seem like one of those bandwagoning retards who never read Dredd and hate Stallone Dredd and love Urban Dredd because you're "suppose to" , so let me explain why I feel this way.

The plot was pretty good. Simple and straightforward.

The script was pretty terrible a lot of the lines seemed really forced.
Karl was OK as Dredd. on one hand, he kept that air of stoicism Dredd has, but he was trying too hard to do a gravelly Batman voice, you could hear it straining his voice sometimes. Even his regular voice would've been better than what was in the movie. Plus he was too quiet. like he was whispering half the time when talking to people. Dredd shouts, a lot.

And yes, he kept his helmet on, whatever. People make too much of a big deal about it. Dredd himself certainly would prefer to keep it on though for practical reasons, the rebreather has saved his life half a dozen times plus bullets have bounced off it.
The entire Pre-Necropolis story arc shows Dredd without his helmet on. I'm not saying he SHOULD take his helmet off. It's just that people love to say "omg the new dredd is sooooo much better because he kept his helmet on unlike stallone!" like parrots.

Total Shit.
Not in the good "apocalyptic" way.
It looks uninspired and boring. Yes, I get they had a tight budget. Yes I understand they just used flyover footage with a few CGI buildings. But WHY have these large panning shots showing off the whole city when the city looks so godawfully plain. They would've been better off showing of small, but really well crafted parts of the city, and let the viewer extrapolate that, instead of pretty much laying everything out, and having it look like generic shit.

Early Dredd Meg1 was a futuristic paradise, with crime and corruption seething underneath a thin veneer of technology.
Late Era Meg1 was a bombed out, apocalyptic warzone hellhole with radiation zones, mutatnt blocs and charred ruins.
2012 Dredd looks like neither
At the very least 1995 Dredd made the city look like the latter.

Meg1 in the comics had character, you could write (and they did write) entire stories just about meg1 that Dredd and the Judges had nothing to do with., the movie's portrayl has none.

For the most part, the portrayal of Judges is alright. They're stoic, they're professional.
There's no council of high judges for some reason.
Perhaps they were trying to distance themselves from Stallone Dredd, but having a council and having conflicts on the council was an integral part of Dredd. It would've been nice to at least include them in a token scene. They don't even all need speaking roles.

Meg1 was a military dictatorship for most of its history. Having SOMETHING that shows it would've been good. Judges riding in formation, rookies in a training field, maybe more than 1 aircraft in the air?

The Chief Judge knows Dredd, even confers with him privately, that's good.
The Rogue Judges know about Judge, but only the leader seems to know/fear/respect him, that's ok.
Anderson doesn't know who Dredd is.
No one in peach trees know who Dredd is.
Why?
You could say it's early in his career, but having the Chief Judge already rely on him and having him train special rookies is sort of a contradiction.
One can't honestly say, "Well he's not famous enough for Mama to know about him", when he's suppose to be THE most famous judge. Not to mention Mama specifically knows which corrupt judges to call on, which implies she at least is familiar with "important" judges.

This was my biggest problem with the film. I could let go of Mega City One being bland (Nolan numbed me I guess) but for the whole film I was waiting for Dredd to lose his shit and it never happened.

Still a great film, though. I think most people prefer 2012 Dredd to '95 Dredd because it's just a better film; in terms of being Judge Dredd films I'd say they match up equally, they just succeed and fail in different ways.

Just decided to get into Dredd last week. I bought Vol. 1 of IDW's Dredd since it looked great and I had no idea what to start with. I heard Complete Case Files is a good place to start but where should I go after that? I like having hard copies, should I buy those individual issues at my comic book store or just the large book-like collections?
