Sakurai showed trophies from four different series in the Direct.
Pseudo-Palutena from Kid Icarus. Palutena gets confirmed. Tiki from Fire Emblem Awakening. Lucina and Robin get confirmed. That leaves only another Zelda character for Fi and a Metroid character for King Kihunter.
Not to mention almost every new stage he shows off gets a newcomer from that IP.
Find Mii/Pilotwings stage? Miis get confirmed. Punch Out ring? Little Mac gets confirmed. Arena Ferox? Lucina and Robin get confirmed. Palutena's Temple? Palutena gets confirmed. Super Mario Galaxy stage? Rosalina gets confirmed. Pac Man wasn't teased by stage but by items. Pyrosphere?
Sakurai's also made numerous allusions to size and how SSB doesn't stay true to scale.
For some reason I think Lucas and Snake were a one time thing. Pretty sad if that's the case, because it means both of them were included in the roster for what is the worst game in the Smash series (Brawl).

I don't see why anyone is worried about characters being dropped when all of the veterans so far are ports from brawl. The only characters to worry about are those that have a reason to be cut like snake, squirtle, and ivysaur

Yes that's a pretty reasonable basis, especially when sakurai said he didn't like cutting characters because people get attached to them. Even in brawl the only characters cut were clones and mewtwo, but it's very likely that sonic was the reason. 4 doesn't really have that problem because the game uses a ton of assets from brawl.

Smash 4's stages look like they've actually had thought put into their design unlike melee's, which had multiple levels that felt like platforms and pits mashed together (see: Subcon, Icicle Mountain, Fourside, Onett, Dreamland)

Sure they aren't mashed up platforms and pits but at least that's VARIETY. Something that distinguishes a stage from the others.
Some fags think it'll give NOA an excuse to bring Mother 3 over, despite that it's long since past its time that it originally released and that localizing it on WiiUVC would be foolish. It's also probably because of the sudden increase of Mario, FE, and Pokemon Reps, though this is applied with Star Fox fans, F-Zero fans, and I think Zelda Fans.
Unless you never heard, Sakurai did almost make a Star Fox game before considering resurrecting Kid Icarus. It proabaly means nothing, but since ZSS has her own special and that there isnt a shitty story mode taking up half the games resources, i'm sure everyone will have their own specials.

What's worse is, as I've said before, there are other characters both already in the game, like Mega Man, and potential newcomers, who would benefit a lot more from this full-moveset customization and would make a lot more sense with it. But of course he gives it to his waifu.

Krystal looks like she would have amazing/unique gameplay with that staff. Imagining all the possible options she could use Plus the staff abilities seen in Adventures/Dinosaur Planet makes me think she could be a swift character with based gameplay.
Personally I didn't want her in before I thought about this, but what does /v/ think an amazing moveset for Krystal would be if she were to be announced?

Kidding. I don't care what character gets in, as long as they're interesting, somewhat unique, and refer back to their origin game(s). Which is why Toon Link fucking pisses me off, because he fails at all of those things. His only redeeming factor is that he's a version of Link that doesn't suck, and I hate that that's why people even wanted him back.

clones have different rules. They're basically afterthoughts and leftover dev time meant to pad the roster. The only real argument about clones is who should be cloned and who should be the clone. You can argue chrome should have been the clone.
How would you know, or is your reason she was guaranteed a spot because "HURR DURR POPULAR"? It was already clarified by Sakurai that the characters that are chosen are based on how he sees them play, so despite how fucking popular they are, they may not get in because he may not like how they play.

He just needed a gameplay mechanic for her to represent.
Her being able to swap out and mix and match different powers essentially represents how customizing the powers worked in Uprising. KIU has two forms of arsenal: weapons and powers. Pit already has Uprising weapons build into his moveset, so I think its fitting to base Palutena around the game's power system.
Something to consider with the newcomers this time around: They're not just representing their abilities as a character, they're representing actual gameplay mechanics from the games they come from. Villager is about using tools and putting things into his pocket. Mega Man's entire moveset, design, physics, etc are based on the gameplay and movement of the original MM series. Little Mac has the KO meter taken from the arcade PO!!, whereas doing more damage (and taking damage in Smash's case) increases the meter to do a powerful attack. Rosalina's moveset consists of various mechanics from the Mario Galaxy games (The Luma partner, the Launch Star, the cursor). Stuff like that.

Mega Man moves and acts like how he does in the original NES games. Mario and Samus doesn't move and act like they do in their original NES games. It's just something he needed to make the character stand out more.

Yeah, we won't be getting other captains or Mega Mans. Don't know why you'd expect them for the latter since each model has a completely different hitbox.
Honestly I'm 100% okay with the characters not turning into other characters. That would take away from why they chose that character in the first place. Changing him/her like that would be like saying "Well, this character is important to his/her franchise, but it may as well be this character instead" Project M has the same philosophy when approaching alts.
I think color swaps, hat changes, etc. would be more than enough in most cases. If megaman got the other's helmets/colors while keeping his model. If mario got his doc coat. It isn't necessary but it's a nice touch to have, especially for a game like this
