>Never played a Monster Hunter game before
>Shit load of fun
>Love underwater battles, but disappointed in how few true aquatic monsters there were
>Hyped to see how the next game expands underwater areas
>MH4 revealed to cut underwater combat
I'd kill for sea/underwater combat in a future Dragon's Dogma game.
You don't have a phobia of the ocean, do you anon?
>still no sea monsters in the souls games
And people are calling this game hard?
>trying to scare someone with shit from the easiest Zelda game
>with the most comical art style
>with a monster you don't even fight underwater
>because you can't even go underwater in that game
there are sea monsters, op is wrong
>sea town level
>get to the shipyard
>get close to one messed up boat which stands out from the others
>A tentacle burst out of the water nearby and drags you down
>there's a giant squid lying on the sea floor with giant glowy eyes
>You have to cut the tentacles and finally kill it while breathing using giant bubbles that emerge from the floor.
Just make the movement slower to simulate water.
Maybe DS3 will be a journey across the world, I could go for that. On a boat ride you could do battle with something.
DS2 cut out all the journeying portions, understandable but they could make a game entirely out of those.
>playing monster hunter tri or what ever on the Wii
>I have a phobia of hostile sea creatures
>the epioths and the sharqs were fucking horrifying for me
>the Lagiacrus was unsettling when fought in his room, and horrifying when fought in the wild
hot damn I hated that shit. Fuck the water
>>MH4 revealed to cut underwater combat
Thats because underwater combat in MH games is both shit and unnecessary
Why the fuck is MH4 only going to be on 3DS? Good thig I bought a wii u just for MH
>Why the fuck is MH4 only going to be on 3DS?
1. MH to Japan is CoD to Western markets, and the player base for MH is on the 3DS
2. They do have MH games on PC [/spoiler]for asian only
>implying i said you have to fight them while swimming
It just doesnt make much sense, if you could fight sea monsters in Dark Souls, although you can't even fucking swim in water there.
>join up in a clan for the last beta
>the only goal was to find and kill the kraken
>we spend a whole day playing together
>built 3 ships
>go off to fight the kraken
we get absolutely decimated, it KOs my ship in one hit, and I get the unpleasant view of the kraken smashing the living shit out of the other two and then murdering the crews while underwater
Because casuals and idiot whined about underwater being slow and clunky, and instead of improving on it like a good company might, Crapcom decided to just have the MH team axe the entire system, cutting off all that work and all those interesting new combat scenarios.
>improving on it like a good company might
What you meant to say is they did the right thing by building upon the existing infrastructure by introducing platforming which greatly enhanced the main content rather than splitting the game in two by having land and sea combat.
>underwater Atlantis/Bioshock-esque world that you get teleported to a la Painted World
>fighting unique enemies with rich scenery of DS universe underwater creatures and plants
>final boss of the area is a Trident wielding neptune merman
Shit would be so cash
This game fucking scarred my childhood and created my fear of the ocean. I was entranced and finished it all in one sitting for some reason. God damn final boss was the scariest shit when he started sifting through pillars with his tentacles outstretched.
>this thing that opens up an entire new realm of action and adventure is unnecessary because I don't like it
Fuck you, shithead.
>b-but it's clunky
Then it should have been improved upon, retard.
>two games in one is bad
>they can only improve on one thing per game
Like I said, a better company would have improved upon it instead of taking it out.
The Monster Hunter sea fights are okay in open areas.
As soon as they make you fight something as big as a Lagiacrus in a tiny little pond with zero visibility, then everything goes to shit.
There was a giant underwater raid boss in everquest 2. It was a giant human-like head with some fish features on it. I wish I could remember the name of it so I can google a pic.
Scared the shit outta me when I first saw it.
Some sort of evil ass poseidon motherfucker. He looked normal at first though.
If I remember correctly the fight had 3 phases and he changed forms each phase.
The entire fight took place in an abandoned greek temple underwater with tons of pillars that lead infinitely into the dark.
In the scary and (I think) final phase he looked kinda like pic related. Just imagine it grabbing pillars and throwing its body around.
With some googling I bet the actual picture isn't as scary. Though my memories probably made him scarier over the years.
Heres a blurry picture somewhat. What really made it spooky was the movement of the body. Plus the machine was enclosed with a giant screen.
I tried the demo version on both the wiiU and the 3ds, how the fuck are you supposed to move underwater with that shitty camera controls of the 3ds? It was cluncky even on the ground.
The controls will be improved for monhun4?
And about monhun3u, can I buy it now and play it online or it's too late to find people/git gud before the 4 comes out?
I wasn't aware that was my job.
Make dodging work better. Everything should move faster, but dodging especially needs to be fixed. There are plenty of extra buttons and button combinations. L2 and R2 (ZL/ZR) are used to go up and down, so holding those should tilt your dodge upward or downward in the water, no more randomly going in one of those directions when you're trying to go back or forward. A swimming speed increase should be obvious. Lock-on was already a great boon for underwater fights, so keep that in.
There. Off the top of my head. Weapons could also perform differently underwater than on land. And with the new mounting system, underwater fights could be great.
This thread reminds me of Aquaria, that game was gorgeous
But I have 2 analogs on the wiiU, for moving the camera on the 3ds I have to use the directional arrows under the analog, so I can't move and move tha camera at the same time, at least not underwater.
then I cannot attack and change the camera at the same time, the cpp is not supported, but maybe is just a problem with the demo which is not customizable and I have to git gud
>Handful of level 20-30 in clippers players attempting to kill a level 55 boss that's meant to take several raids and large ships to kill
Clearly nothing could have gone wrong
Sea monsters are no good in any game because of the bane of video games, water. Water gameplay is in no way fun or enjoyable. There's no way to make a good water creature fight because no matter what it can't be fun
Some of the shit in WW was pretty damn spooky.
This big dummy never played any games in the Ecco series!
Fuck Souls games, where's a good spooky underwater game?
>Inb4 that game from the Amnesia devs
It doesn't look all that interesting, to be honest.
what? It's one of the best games of the wiiU and there is still a lot of people online, besides in not even 2 months you could get all the armors and weapons you want so it doesn't need time to become fun
It made plenty of sense, but it made the fight very stop-go-stop-go.
Being able to at least move a little while underwater would have made it much more interesting since then you wouldn't have to have it surface constantly and it could take you down super deep and still keep the fight going.
Granted, that lake looked ominous as fuck from above, but I wanted to have to fight it down in the dark somehow.
