Heavy Bowgun a shit.
Monster Hunter thread.
fuck getting these fucking diablos hardhorns. i can get 3 rath mantles at once but these fucking things? too fuckin bad faggot fight me another 20 fcking times and still get nothing.
JHEN MOHRAN BECAUSE I CAN HIT HIM WITH MY HAMMER
EVERYWHERE AS LONG AS I HAVE A HAMMER
FUCK YOU PUSSIES WITH YOUR KELBI BOWS AND SHIT, HAMMER FOR LIFE
ALL PRAISE THE GLORY OF THE HAMMER
KNOCK THEIR TEETH OUT
I just started playing MH3U and feel so lost
I just did the Great Jaggi but don't know whether I should focus on a couple of weapons or just use whatever
So far I like the Long Blades because they seem to be able to string together really long combos and have good range
SnS (status ones if hunting with pals)
I don't understand the hate on the SnS. I love the move set it offers; keeping on top of bitches while being able to block a Duramboros falling on me is the best.
>Heavy Bowgun a shit
What brought you to such a conclusion
Hunt monsters, that is the entire point of the game, well and autistically crafting armor at endgame but you'll get there later. For weapons it is all about what is fun for you. Each weapon has strengths and weaknesses but they are all viable. Try each one out to see what is enjoyable for you. Early on you may want to focus on 1-2 weapons to cut down on farming for materials, but that is up to you.
Lance, Greatsword and Hunting Horn are objectly the most fun weapons.
Savage Deviljho, Stygian Zinogre.
Moga woods. I'm a sucker for default settings over themed ones like Desert or jungles etc...
Bought MH freedom 2 a few weeks ago, played the tutorial and all.
I can't get pas the second mission, the monster kills me in 3 or 4 hits
How do I git gud
deviljho or Zinogre
forest and hills
Gunlance is the most fun, Lance is great too, for third place I'd say SnS
Forest and D. Island
why what's wrong with it?
I tried Sword/Shield Greatswords and Lance and didn't like the short range of the sword, how clunky the greatsword was and the lack of rolling with the lance
I tried the Guns and kinda liked them, but don't want to keep shelling out for ammo atm
Because tripping everyone when you are using the Spirit Combo not only is annoying, it will decrease your team overal DPS when the monster gets KO'ed or trapped and everyone goes ape shit.
Using it offline is perfectly fine, sure, but online? and fighting small monsters? hell no
LSand Bow, however I am learning how to Lance and GS.
MH3U: Hammer all the fucking way, sometimes
MHFU: Tie between Khezu and Garuga.
MH3U: Barroth. Love how he fights, love how he looks, love the armor and weapons he gives.
MHFU: Jungle or Great Forest. Fortress is pretty cool too.
MH3U: Moga Woods.
>playing MHFU for the first time ages ago
>somehow manage to capture tigrex the first mission he appears with the free shock trap and a single tranq bomb
I don't even
how did that even happen
the tranq bomb was an accident too, I managed to press square in my panic trying to get away from the thing hoping the trap would stun it long enough for me to get the fuck out
I'm curious about this now. Longsword is one of the weapons I actually like using in MH. If you don't use your spirit combos, what else do you do in multiplayer? Is there a skill you can equip that prevents the tripping or..?
well it did
unless I managed to throw another one and not even notice I really can't explain why it happened
Pure luck or glitch are really the only explanations that make sense
>Capture with a single tranq. and only one shock trap
>First time he appears
>Mission: Sinking Feeling
Yeah, nah, thats bullshit.
It takes two tranqs. to cap in Freedom Unite.
And you would not have the skill nor the equipment to damage a Tigrex enough to get it with in cap range.
Try researching before you come up with bullshit posts about being xXx_L0N3_HUNTAH420_xXx
This post again.
No anon. You cant kill tigrex when he first appears. ALL your weapons will Bounce out of him and the amount of damage you will do with any weapon that doesnt bounce will take so much time that you will just time out. Stop bullshiting us.
>stop using your weapon the way it's meant to be used!
ignore the whining of people who lack spatial awareness and slash the fuck out of the boss
if you trip over my sword it is literally 100% your fault especially when you should be more than aware that spirit combos have a wide arc
I just finished farming Helios X + Kelbi bow
I feel dirty
Last MH I played was Freedom Unite. I really am interested in getting into MH again, but since I heard that 4U was going to be released relatively soon, I'm holding off until that comes out.
No there isn't.
It's generally just better if you pick a different weapon for multiplayer.
Granted it might be possible with a large(er) monster with multiple hit points (Lao, Shen, Hermitaurs, Ceanataurs, etc.)
Being a LS user I know both the ends, giving and receiving.
It hurts inside to know that I got to HR solely from using a LS and sometimes a bow.
MH3U has clunky underwater combat, 4U doesn't and also has two new super fun looking weapons, as well as fluid movement and more monster variety. 4U also has online functionality.
I suggest waiting for 4U just because Smash Bros is coming out soon and you'll be able to occupy yourself with that first.
You use your vertical attacks You have an infinit combo; use it X-X-A-X-X-A-etc. You only every use spirit guage attacks when there's a massive opening and you're not going to trip the shit out of people.
There's knowing discretion to not trip everyone who are also fighting the monster and knowing when and where you can get spirit combos off without fucking it up.
There are ways to avoid being tripped but unless you are playing with your friends you will most of the time stumble with players that wont give a damn about tactical positioning.
Large monsters allow LS users to position far from other players, but when you are fighting a Zinogre/Qurupeco/Narga or any medium to small sized monster the guy with the LS will trip everyone when using Spirit Combo
Gunlance Master Race reporting in
The 4U swamp/flooded forest looks cool, especially the area with all the Lotus flowers.
>LS shitter runs up behind me and starts attacking on top of me
>try to get away
>faggot keeps comboing me
>can't get up
>can't run away
>monster starts attack animation
>LS fag still fucking attacking without pause
>monster destroys both of us
>all my fault
Thanks for providing more evidence that LS mains are the cancer of MH online.
>Be me hanging with my Hunter bro's
>Bro 1 uses Bows and both types of Gunbows, is trying to get into Melee weapons can't decide if he wants GS or Hammer
>Bro 2 only uses LS and nothing else, rarely uses Bowguns.
>I swap from LS to GS to Lance to Bow to whatever is needed or whatever I feel like.
>First time on Lao
>Lineup is GS, LS, and HBG
>All three of us get our shit rekt
>Lineup hasn't changed
>I nearly die because Bro 2 got too close and started combo'ing while I try not to get stomped
>10 mins later we get rekt again
>Bro 2 decides he'll change to LBG/HBG
>Makes me and Bro 1 wait for 20 mins while he prepares
>Get Lao all the way to the Fortress doors, one shots all of us when he tackles the damn thing
We decided to take a break after that.
But jesus was that annoying.
Also Lao's tail is some bullshit.
>mfw I get carted trying to walk past his tail
This image is literally the reason why I went with the Hammer for 3U.
I remember some years ago, me and my friend were hunting Azure Lao in MHFU with end game gear; believe it or not, it never reached the gate, but not necause we killed it, it fucking turned around and started walking backward in the last segment. We didn't see how it happened because we used farcaster to get to the gate earlier, and after a while of waiting, we got back to check.
I've found the Barroth Grandbasher to be more helpful in my book. While slime explosion stagger is godlike, the constant poisoning from the grandbasher racks up a constant stream of damage like it's going out of style.
Which one you want, bro?
Who gives a shit?
Have a huntress.
>Run into Tigrex in sinking feeling for the first time
>Whip out my hunting horn and call her a fag while playing "in the navy"
>Tigrex roars because its feelings were hurt
>Tell her I'm sorry and offer her a ride in my Lamborghini
>Jump on the hood as we're riding on the highway with my shirt opened
>It was implied we had sex afterwards
Now she's fighting tomboys on the roof of some castle somewhere.
>How far away you should be
So "The entire monster"? Unless you're fighting something the size of Duramboros or Jhen, they will always be an extreme nuisance due to their attack arcs whenever using spirit combos and the fact that so many of them spam their X+A after every vertical, and it is wide as all shit. Even if you're focusing on the head, the radius of the swing is tremendous and is more prone to trip up everybody in the party than help.
I'd DS that Narga.
If you know what I mean.
But seriously DS a shit
Don't you fucking 404 on me!
Post some monsters!
Weapons I've tried:
>Sword and Shield
One of my favorite weapons. Takes a while to kill anything, but I love being able to attack swiftly and move around.
Second favorite. Everything dies so quickly.
I got to HR and then dropped it. It's a nice weapon, but I just can't get used to it properly. Whenever I'm not playing with my friends it's a mess. KOing monsters is really satisfying though.
Dropped almost instantly. I found them boring.
Just like the hammer, satisfying but just not my cup of tea.
Wasn't impressed, but I didn't really give it a chance. Maybe I'll reconsider someday.
Just picked it up. I have the feeling that I won't use it for long, but who knows.
I enjoyed underwater combat. It took time and practice to get used to, but I did enjoy it. Although I did have my gripes with it and felt it could have been tweaked or handled differently.
The one thing that makes underwater combat utter shit is the lack of any depth perception so it was hard to tell how close you were to a monster to attack it. Most underwater based monsters also dodged bowgun shots really easy because they don't stop moving and you're slow as shit in water.
If you moved faster in the water and there was a method is checking distance properly, it would be fine.
Water combat was wither a pain or just okay. Try hunting anything in the water with a SnS. Honestly, I'm glad they're axing swimming.
Probably bows for me. I either see bow users as Kelbi Deershot faggots, or the "i'm-gonna-stand-way-too-far-away-and-hope-my-shots-connect" people
MH4U WEAPONS CHANGELOG
I have never once used evade extender on my switch axe. In fact I don't believe I've used it ever.
It's a dumb joke someone made on a stream when we didn't know his name still.
MHFU: LS and HH, I was a solo hunter in FU though
MH3G: HH all the way bay bee
MHFU: Daimyo Hermitaur and Shogun Ceantaur, hands down. I almost shed a manly tear when they weren't in 3G, and I almost pooped a little when I heard they are coming back in 4G (FU had a tonne of cool monsters though, way better selection than 3G. Also, Chameleos gets an honourable mention too, if not for the crabs he'd be my favourite)
MH3G: Nibblesnarf is pretty awesome, I like the idea of a Turtle/Mudpuppy/catfish monster.
I really wish they would dial it back a bit with the "spiky dragon-ish" style monsters. MonHun needs more variety in the enemies, FU had all sorts of different shit, and 3G feels like it should be called "Dragon Hunter"
MHFU: Great Forest / Tower
I really love deep, lush, colourful forests, but the Tower gets huge bonus points for just being a really cool looking, interesting area with lots of stuff to look at and think about. It feels like it is actually the remains of an old civilization.
MH3G: Misty Peaks, hands down.
Monster Hunter really needs to focus on having more fleshed out, cooler areas with more variety and colour.
Honestly, I'd even just be happy if they started porting forward all of the old maps with a retexture just to try and add a little more variety.
I'm like you but I play chill tunes and buff people while I smash teeth, can I hang out too?
>I really wish they would dial it back a bit with the "spiky dragons" style monsters. MonHun needs more variety in the enemies, FU had all sorts of different shit, and 3G feels like it should be called "Dragon Hunter"
Too bad the new monsters in 4 were poorly-received on /mhg/.
It's hard to get new monsters when you're in danger of becoming no different from Frontier.
>Make a genuinely unique monster
>IT'S SHIT, NO DIFFERENT FROM FRONTIER
>Play it safe, run them based on the classics
>IT'S SHIT, NO DIFFERENT FROM THE MAINLINE
What the fuck does /mhg/ want?
Not really, the problem with gen 4 monsters is they pulled the shit where they made more new categories but only have 1 monster in them. Look at Snake Wyverns and Chelicerata. We don't want more Zinogre situations ffs.
So I never played Monster Hunter, but these Monsters look coolio
/mhg/ has gone full retard for the past week or so.
Not sure whats up.
Currently there is a flame war about some GS user shitting on DB users.
They are coolio. You should give the series a try.
This is bad advice depending on the gunlance type you're using. If it's Spread, then by all means do exactly that. For Long you really want to use shelling as combo extenders for poking, and to a lesser extent much the same for Normal, but with a greater focus on slamming and full bursting.
Yeah, I watched my friend do some high-rank missions and he turned it off when that Jurassic Park lookin motherfucker showed up, the one with the long Black hair and black anime eyes. Said he wasn't gonna deal with that shit today.
Warning: Monster Hunter is not for the faint of heart nor the casual gamer.
It's one of the few games left in video games that requires effort and skill to accomplish anything.
If you want to start, I would recommend Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate as a good starter game.
I'm sorry, what? I remember everyone being hyped as shit about the new monsters in 4 because we're finally getting something that isn't dragons, cat-dragons, and punch dragons. Oh and also bears.
savage deviljho is the coolest muthafucka
>Fight my first Royal Ludroth
>It keeps FUCKING ROLLING ME TO DEATH
Fast forward to years later
>can't sneeze without making Royal Ludroth explode
Also I found pellet shots on the peeko hbg and the peeko bow in general to both be hilariously effective. Pretty sure either his face is a magnet or has a fucking huge hitbox.
Generalizing is my mistake. To be precise, there is one individual who pops in to express his disdain in the new monsters.
Then again, there's Dara....
I was going to agree with you, but soloing G rank is a completely different beast that actually does require considerable skill and dedication. But multiplayer hunting is easy enough, yes.
I requires you to learn and apply what you've learnt without holding your hand the entire way. A lot of what you find and learn you have to find and learn actively yourself.
For some people, that's asking too much.
Oh god, no. Don't do that to yourself.
Fucking shit, ow, goddamn no. Stop. Stop now. Stop.
Only play that if you are a super enthusiast fan of the series that wants to visit its roots. Otherwise it is extremely masochistic.
There was one toddler in my house who kept asking stupid questions to me while I was playing and the worst of all is why the monster isn't dead yet. He was so fucking annoying I had to complain to his father to shut him up.
Dara is infamous for stalling the fight with meteor showers and constant swallow attacks. That, and his Glaive outclasses everything because of blast attribute.
The only thing that gets me is the bit about the 5.2 modifier. The modifiers are artificial inflation of how much damage a weapon does and makes it harder to compare weapons. MHP3rd did it right where they got rid of it.
Not really, the fight is awfully boring. I mean it isn't as bad as every huge monster (excluding Jhen, that fight is fine)
They just need to do away with huge monsters that don't have gimmicks.
For us, because of how easy it is among other things. But it happens to be the softest entry in the series, and sometimes people need to be slowly coaxed in rather than jumping in headfirst
>know about timing and spacing
I am the 1%.
It is CONSIDERABLY easier than Tri though. Even with just the Greatsword or SnS, Great Jaggi dies a good 3 to 5 minutes earlier than it does in Tri, and this is the prevailing experience all throughout the game. Also pretty sure that's where the Barroth nerf started.
Actually it is, alot easier in fact. The defense system is so screwed up that nothing can harm you except for a select few monsters. Raw damage was ruined and made more casual thanks to removing the class and elemental divider. Monsters stagger twice as fast as they did in MH3 and also exhaust slightly faster. The only fights I have ever even died once to in MHP3rd was Green Narga, Brute Tigrex, and Ukanlos. Not including event and custom quests.
>[9) Hunting Horn:
>~Forward+A performs an attack that can play multiple notes depending on what you input as it's swinging
I did not say x means y, I said that the rest of the game received similar treatment. Please don't twist my words like that.
The Barroth/Barioth nerfs were too extreme, no matter what way you look at it. Barioth especially so since it went from an actual threat designed to trip up veteran hunters to a weak ass pussy cat that trips if you so much as sneeze at him. Hell, if you flash bomb him he doesn't even start leaping around the area anymore, he just sits still and takes a beating.
Barroth was done slightly better but honestly the extent he was nerfed to did a lot to throw away his title as the game's first wall.
>Raw damage was ruined and made more casual thanks to removing the class and elemental divider.
You mean it was made clearer as to what damage was actually done?
The damage formula had the artificial bullshit removed.
Longshot Gunlances are true gunlances since they demonstrate the actual gameplay very well.
Yes, Gunlances are multiplayer-unfriendly but that is easily remedied by uppercut -> shell. Doesn't work as much anymore in 4 unless you have a strong resentment towards Glaivers.
Artificial? No it was fucking retarded. weapons actually outclassed eachother because of it, like how HBG couldn't even compete with LBG in the game. The divider is absolutely needed.
Blango Decimator w/ G-rank Diablos/Ratahalos armour
Probably Akantor. I love standing underneath him/left leg just letting rip with my LS watching him stumble again and again, remembering how difficult I first found him. (2nd is Chameleos for same reasoning[Chameleos+ESP=objective comlete)
Great Forest for me, one of the prettiest maps imo.
Only ever played MHFU btw (love it)
The very first thing that happens when calculating the damage a weapon does is to divide by that arbitrary number.
Previously, for example, a hammer might have a damage rating of 520, greatsword 480, lance 230 etc and a respective divider of 5.2, 4.8 and 2.3. So you hit a monster and what happens before anything else in the damage calculation is that hammer is divided by 5.2 down to 100, the greatsword by 4.8 down to 100 and the lance by 2.3 down to 100. MHP3rd simply removed this bullshit and labelled all the weapons with 100 damage.
So spread GUNlance have more damage potential(using more shots than poking), long is for gunlance (poke shot poke shot) and normarl gunLANCE is for more poking and less gunning and have little damage but is more acceptable online?
Are you kidding me? Have you even played MHP3rd or are we talking about different games? I know what the divider is. You can't deny how much shit staggered and died without blinking an eye. No amount of wiki pulled information is changing that.
At the moment swinging between HBG and GL. GUNS.
Still low rank (got to the KILL LAGIACRUS quest), but either Qurupeco or Great Jaggi. Qurupeco is a cute annoying piece of shit, and killing so many G Jaggis has made me feel attuned to them. I only have to get the Jaggi Mask and I will finally BECOME a Jaggi.
Still probs Moga Woods/Deserted Island. Although Tundra is good for Comfy.
I don't remember exactly, but I think spread gets better bonuses to charged shots, long gets bonuses to Wyvern's Fire and normal gets a bonus on the full burst.
Or I could have gotten them completely mixed up.
i think my favorite set ever was in mhp3rd
i used the black tigrex GS and armor with
stunning and tiring monsters left and right. fun as fuck
even if p3rd was easy as shit anyway`
No it was still retarded because of how awful they got the base raw values wrong. Look back at HBG, they gave it the same raw damage of LBG. Stop being a fucking idiot and actually look at the raw values if you know the formula so much you blind wikia using idiot.
How is it even black?
It's more like ashen-gray
, and brutish-looking
>He isn't using the Lucent Narga HBG with Challenger +2, Spirit +2
>He isn't putting even elder dragons into permanent stunlock and killing them in 7 minutes
That's a problem with the health thresholds on the monsters.
The weapon damage is mechanically the same between classes as it was in games before and after.
You said the divider was absolutely needed, I'm just saying that it ultimately hasn't changed. That doesn't mean that there weren't balance issues elsewhere in the game.
>Take him out in the original demo no problem
>Get 3 Ultimate
>He keeps summoning Great Jaggis
this is correct
also as i recall spread actually gets a negative to full burst
checking up on the bowgun damage formula, and it looks like lbg and hbg have had the same class divider of 1.2 for awhile, hbg gets a bigger bonus from power barrel though
also timing. if you can time a golf swing for every time rathalos turns around and faces his head at you than more power to you, but most of the time charging a superpound is more feasible
Yep. That said, poking isn't bad, especially if you're using Queen Panoply on a poison weak monster or have the right elemental weakness, it's just on the lower end of the weapon's absolute damage potential. Compared to other weapons it sizes up just fine. Top level Spread with Load Up and Artillery Lv.2 just decimates everything, but people in multiplayer will absolutely hate you for using it because they'll be sent flying for 50% of the hunt. Given that shelling was boosted and poking nerfed in 4U, this chart will become especially relevant very soon.
That said, proper usage and timing of Wyvernfire and Full Burst on a Normal don't put you too far behind. Fun fact: Full Burst adds a 1.1x damage modifier to your Normal shells. With Load Up, you've essentially got 1.2x (six shells rather than five) on top of 1.1x (full burst) on top of 1.2x (Artillery Lv.2)
Long gunlances are the most balanced of the three, though, in terms of multiplayer friendliness and gameplay style. Decent charge shot damage, no bonus OR negative shell modifiers on full burst, and its boosted move is entirely unrelated to your shelling in general.
>The first for the PS2
>mfw i remember playing that back in 2004
>No GS charge
>No Long Sword/Gunlance/Hunting Horn/SwitchAxe/Bow
>No Pause button
>All the skills were shit
considering load up and artillery is already pretty point-heavy on a blademaster set, what other skill do you usually run?
i always run sharp1 guard2 and artillery, i can't see fitting load up into that as well
>DS, Lance, LBG
>Forest and Hills
Armor Looks > Armor Skills
This game actually possible to role playing as generic grunt soldier with iron lance. My fucking dream came true.
I've been using the hunting horn pretty much exclusively since I've started 3U, looking at picking up an LBG or HBG set to use as well. What are the best bowguns that I should be looking to build?
That all sounds like bad times.
Like really really bad times.
Jesus how did Monster hunter get off the ground
It had proper online, though.
You could just talk to people and form tight groups to help each other.
In any case, people really forget how 2nd gen also overhauled the game.
They play FU, see all 1st gen content together and think that the game was the same until it.
Tri wasn't the only great evolution.
You speak like we knew better back then
Then Dos came with new weapon types.
But Dos was so full of bullshit since it was really hard and you needed materials to upgrade armor, and you couldn't upgrade armor/weapons past certain points because you needed online materials.
>Then Dos came with new weapon types.
Only if you were Japanese, though.
Most people only managed to experience 2nd gen with F2.
And really, most new weapons were poorly balanced until P3rd overhauled them. Unless you wished to experiment, your most used weapons up to FU would be very likely to be just Hammer, GS and HBG.
To be honest I never really use Guard 2 that much. It encourages too defensive a playstyle. Learn to dodge and you'll almost never need to guard. Evasion +1 or Evade Extender can help very much.
If you're running a Spread gunlance and mostly using shelling, then sharpness doesn't matter a whole lot either.
Artillery is a five slot skill, pretty easy. Loading is where the pain is considering it takes two slots to get one point and three slots to get two. I highly suggest rummaging through your talismans to find that.
Unfortunately I can't really suggest a set without a whole lot of mix-matching, because there is literally not a single Blademaster set that actually has Load Up on it and Artillery is such an easy skill. Grab Athena and see what you can dig up.
>starting MH3U after doing pretty much everything in Tri that I could without online
>Qurupeco capture quest
>accidentally trap the Qurupeco
>waste all 4 of my tranqs, still haven't gotten him
>get pissed off that I have to do this bullshit again and start beating the shit out of the Peco while he's still trapped
>after several attacks, he goes to sleep and the mission complete screen pops up
Can someone explain what happened? Do tranq bombs work on a timer? How did he fall asleep?
I just don't want DMC style infini-flight. I want fast impact weapons and punching monsters to death. Also would be cool if you could mix and match left and right gloves though I wouldn't really expect that last detail.
Am I the only one that fucking loves Deviljho's theme? It's so "armageddon"-y. Like, you sit your ass right there faggot and let this dude assrape you. You came to the wrong neighborhood, motherfucker.
Here's how it works.
Tranquilization is a status effect. Each bomb builds it up, but over time it fades. You require only that the monster be below a certain threshold of health and above a certain threshold of tranquilization, as well as being captured. The order these things happen doesn't matter. You could tranquilize a monster before it steps into a trap, and then beat it to death and cause it to sleep -- all within a very short time frame, mind you -- and it would still work.
I suggest waiting to see the monster limp, or getting the Capture Guru skill and watching the monster's icon on the map if it's painted to see if it's flashing before actually attempting capture. These will yield the most consistently positive results.
These will be completely arbitrary values but it's how I've always experienced tranqs to work.
Imagine that each tranq bomb gives the monster 55 points of 'tranquilized' status and that once a monster falls into a trap, critically injured and with at least 100 points of that status, they get captured.
Every few seconds the amount of status the monster has amassed from your tranqs decreases, so if you wait too long to trap, the monster won't be captured.
And you can just throw two tranqs a few seconds before trapping the monster and it will also instantly fall asleep.
>Only if you were Japanese, though.
Oh yes, it was only in japanese
That didn't stopped me, i still played the hell out of it.
Dos was so hard i had to use the weapon type that was most easy to kill each monster. Not to mention most new weapon types were fucking useless, like GunLance or Bow.
I had to use Gameshark or Actionreplay to do Online quests.
You MAY require a chest with three slots and some form of torso up, either from the jho belt, uragaan booties, guild booties, or skull mask. Seriously though http://forums.minegarde.com/topic/5304-athenas-armor-set-search-for-mh3g-and-mh3u/
Is that made from Tigrex materials
looking into this too. apparently there are a bunch of files that are encrypted, can be logged when running on ppsspp, but have to be thrown into an actual psp with a tool made to decrypt, and then copied back to the pc
which is a hell of a lot more work than i expected
>mistaking jaguar spots for tiger stripes
Actually, MH is missing a monster with such patterns so far, no?
I remember one of the concepts in those artbooks has a wyvern with them. It's a Seruregiosu (Steve) concept too if I'm not wrong.
You can live without Load Up, it just helps is all. In fact, trying to fit it on any set in 3U severely messes with your chances of being able to actually make the set.
All the categories introduced in 3rd and 4th gen could use a lot more monsters. Leviathans (RIP), Brute Wyverns, Fanged Wyverns, Amphibians, Snake Wyvern, I'd welcome more of all of those.
I am too ok with this.
>Captcha: interactive pokens
dual blades of the insect variety
moga woods/ D. island
i have no monhun images, so have this one
>Speed Eating +1
Mother of fuck I didn't know sets like this existed.
With a 1 slot weapon, you can get away with using a 3 slot charm, but with 0 weapon slots, there are like 23 charms that can yield this set, and none of them seem to be super rare. Although if you skip out on Speed Sharpener you literally don't need any weapon or charm slots to make it. Also it's typically like 80% Vangis armour so it's super easy to make.
>heavy bowgun a shit
they wont be soon enough
since the pine cone is the female
also garuga because why the hell not
>why the hell not
Barely any fanart since FU, though.
Even with MH4 I'm having a hard time finding new stuff.
Well, until then I'll stick with Freedom Unite.
now lets not get too ahead of ourselves
i saw that shogun ceanataur was back. does that mean this bastard is in too? i'm not sure if i'm ready for permanent rage crab again
the rank of quests you are on is the highest level of low rank
high rank is kind of like everything you just did, except with a couple new monsters, old monsters with new attacks, and everything hurts more
and then there's g rank that does that even more. this is where you will likely spend the majority of your time
Deviljho is one of the better designed monsters in videogames period.
The design itself is really simple and clean, but you can see what Deviljho is about at a first glance. Big fat bag of hunger and rage.
is it new quests or just the same ones over again?
also >mfw stealing eggs from the rathian on that one quest
For heavy bowguns, it will be the ability to pre-load Wyvernfire Shots and then use them at any point in time without switching ammo types. Presumably with buffs to how Wyvernfire Shots work like making them no longer affected by hitzone resistance as they are in 3U, making them actually worth existing and being used.
new for the most part. though you're going to have a hunt one X quest at every level for every monster save a couple like jaggi. not all necessary though, that's where key quests come in
Find me a way to do this without resorting to to many gems in the weapon.
Rock steady 0, +2, +2, +2, +4
crit draw +3, 0, +5, 0, +2
mind's eye 0, +3, +2, +3, +2
handicraft +2, -1, 0, +2, 0
focus +2, +1, +2, +4, +1
Well your last quest of Low Rank ends with a super relaxing, atmospheric bullet sponge fight, while your first quest of High Rank begins with a frustrating rape-tastic introduction to Subspecies that will feel like you just started the whole damn game over again. Only without any gathering quests.
really? cause I beat every monster like no problem thus far
granted it takes like fucking 30-40 minutes, and I hate fighting underwater, but no failures thus far
whats so hard about it? and what are subspecies
>it takes like fucking 30-40 minutes
it sounds like you're doing something wrong. are you focusing your damage on the monsters' weak points? are you keeping your favorite weapon type fully upgraded? do you know all the moves your weapon has? you should be doing everything sub 20 minutes, save maybe duram because he's a huge health sponge
if you haven't been there, kiranico.com has hitzones for all monsters, it helps a shitload
Also for the record, Duramboros is weak to poison and fire. When he starts spinning, roll in between his tail spins, because it'll only hurt you if you're at the outer edge. Start tickling his feet and he'll fall over. Attack his humps for maximum pain.
You could also try getting Arko Nulo (r) and spamming arrow rain on his humps. That drops quest time down to like 25 minutes from 40.
Nargacuga, can't decide between normal/green/lucent though
yeah you're probably right. on that note
>Attack his humps for maximum pain
this cannot be stressed enough. once broken duramboros' hump is the weakest weak point in the whole game
Actually the longest anything took me was the first time I killed the lagi. holy shit is it hard to hit stuff underwater
And after like the 3rd farm of the duramboros, I got the kill time down to like 20 minutes, plus broke horns / humps / tail / mined it
I couldn't find any combos with Sharpness+1 but This will get you Speed Sharpening.

>The Longsword in our team never trips anyone despite being a newbie and using spirit combo a lot
>Constantly get tripped up by the DB spamming dance and knocked around by the hammer
>You will never hunt pic related
I miss when we used to be able to have monster threads on /v/
I got banned last time I started one
Because Japan doesn't need online to play Monster Hunter socially. You can't trip over a crack without crashing into a kid, a salaryman, 3 pregnant women and 2 shiba inu playing Monster Hunter. Only console versions ever had online, for obvious reasons. But the series producer knows just how important online is for the series to thrive in the West, so lo and behold Monster Hunter 4 / 4U are the first portable games to have online built in.
>tfw can't hit monsters at all with the ranged weapons
Not that I intend to go down the Kelbi Bow route, but it's kind of depressing to think that I'd probably still triple cart even with the ridiculously broken newbie weapon
Nope, they just don't like threads outside of "NINTENYEAROLDS BTFO PC GAYMRS WILL NEVER GIT GTAVII"
I've gotten banned several times for starting SCP containment breach threads too, i've even appealed them on IRC but ended up with "hurr durr not vidya"
Actually it has online on the portable to get the people who did still buy Tri in Japan to follow the series on the 3DS.
They did not add online thinking of the west, do not fool yourself.
220 hours into the game and I just did my first Zinogre hunt.
Great design, kicked my ass though, used 16 mega potions.
SWITCH AXE MASTER RACE
My next favorite is Gunlance.
Brachy or Deviljho
It's been awhile so I don't really remember which I like the most
Misty Peaks or Volcano. Both look cool as fuck and have nice monsters to hunt
Presumably this is for the Greatsword, and therefore you will eventually gravitate to Nero's Anguish, which has one slot.
I can get you Sharpness +1, Rocksteady, Crit Draw and Focus. No more than that, however.
Do you have any slotted Crit Draw or Handicraft charms?
ive cut off tails with a hammer without knowing i could.
i grongigas'd the fuck out of brachy and his tail just came off
UX. It's fucking good too.
Fair enough, the former is relatively obscure, but easily the best SRPG franchise I've ever played. Basically Fire Emblem but better in just about every way imaginable.
Well, yeah. But comparing low rank to low rank and high rank to high rank, the parts of the games that did overlap.
I am still kind of angry over Uragaan's Roar-into-chinslam combo being nerfed to do no damage.
Hey guys I'm having a problem deciding what to make. I'm a DS user and cant decide between the dios slicers and the type 51 macerators.
I like the slime on the dios but the macerator gives me +20 defence.
Which should i go for when i get the money?
Between 3U and Freedom Unite, which of the two games actually adds more varied content, and which one reskins monsters more to pad out content?
>Trusting the main series to actually handle subspecies.
well i couldn't find my up to date mhp3rd folder with the set i wanted to find, but here's mhp3rd HD on ppsspp because apparently that fucking works and a duramboros set because fuck yes duramboros
I like the Hammer, Great Sword, HBG, Bow, S&S, DS, Gunlance, and Longsword. I'm terrible with a lance and hunting horn is shit in MHF2/U. The problem I have with lance is basically that the dodge step feels odd after every other weapon (cept Gunlance) just simply having a roll. At least Gunlance has a slightly larger dodge step so it is easier for me to get into.
Only really played MHF1 & MHF2. Really need I only play offline so my opinions are biased. I like the longsword not for speed or power but really the ability to strike enemies without having the weapon bounce once you get the Spirit Gauge maxed. Later on in the game this is incredibly useful for when you need a skillset that doesn't offer Sharpness +1 and need to inflict high damage/break a part on a wyvern that has many areas that cause you to bounce. Hammers are my favorite for speed mostly followed by Great Sword which I didn't really use till I got up to Rathalos and Rathian since I wanted the tail cut and high power. Frankly I now love the Great Sword but have realized you should only use it if you can land a level 3 charge reliably on the wyvern you are fighting and when you should combo/draw slash. S&S I only restarted using due to some of the weapons having high element/status like Eternal Slayer/Sandman Spike. Same for DS but only element. I use Scatter bows on much smaller wyverns (yian kut ku to rathalos size) and Pierce on larger ones (think Gravios/Plesioth). I think Rapid is always garbage. HBG is fantastic on tons of wyverns and allows you to rip through things like Shen Gaoren in a fraction of the time.
I can't understand people who only use 1 weapon type since I only play offline. It just seems retarded since a lot of weapons that may be great for one wyvern are terrible for another. And whole weapon types are just stupid to bring against certain wyverns.
none of them work for sniping
all bow shots go into the pierce/pellet range
HBG relies more on pierce and normal ammo and is slower while the LBG relies on elemental damage and is obviously more mobile. With bowguns you don't want to be long distance. With ranged weapons there's a set range to shoot at from the monster to fire at them for maximum damage, the further you are away the less damage you do. HBG have higher raw, but a rapid fire LBG isn't anything to take lightly.
Zinny will make you his bitch for sure. He is just like the rest, however. Learn him, git gud, and the next time Hercules trying swaging with his Lion's mane, you'll show his ass up, real good. Just do your best to be ready for Stygian Zinny. Man I wish there was a Xanax grenade to throw at that guy...
I like 2 swords the most but for some reason I find myself hunting with hammer or great sword the most.
Probably because GS is the easiest weapon and hammer feels just so powerful to swing around.
Maybe if you're a retarded who doesn't know how to hit twice and then put it back and wait for the next opening.
Also I have to correct myself. The Bow in MH3U is by far the easiest weapon. With Cha Cha or Kayamba distracting the monster you just stand there for 80% of the fight and shoot arrows or drop them from the sky,
Fuck, I always find these threads when they're at 400+ posts.
I'm at the final tier of quests in MH3U and damn they're hard to solo. I wish I had the WiiU version to make it a bit easier.
Dual Swords for life.
Are you some kind of idiot?
There are three primary goals to the game:
Collect shit (requires grinding)
Git gud (requires experience)
Have fun hunting shit (requires hunting monsters)
All of these boil down to the same action. Hunt monsters. To collect shit you need to repeatedly hunt monsters to get their parts. To become skillful and proficient in your chosen weaponry, you need to hunt a LOT to get plenty of experience. Hunting monsters is both a method and a goal unto itself.
These games have a story of sorts, but it revolves around "hunt monsters to git gud, then when you're gud enough, hunt these monsters to save the village" and tends to finish and you've typically accomplished the task set before you not even halfway through the content. After that hunting monsters is purely collectionism, accomplishment and fun.
But some people... some people will only see the grinding.
Okay, you know Charge Attack III? In 4U, you can press R just as the sword goes in and the energy charges to pull your sword out at the last moment. This leaves the energy charged in the shield, and causes it to glow red.
This is the Elemental Boost State. How long it lasts depends entirely on how many phials you boosted into the shield. In this state, certain attacks gain increased damage - like the new Shield Thrust, for instance. Blocking is also improved in this state. Whether this means it will not drain sharpness to block, or you are considered to have Guard+ or Guard Up, I do not know. But in this state, your Charge Attack III move is replaced with that new move seen >>255632628 . Not only that, but you can directly combo the new Shield Thrust into axe mode to perform the new Super Boost Charge Attack.
>be a few minutes ago
>playing portable 3rd
>doing the 6 star village rathian and rathalos quest
>going well so far nearly killed rathian
>its limping and goes back to the nest zone where the cliff jump is
>go there ready to kill rathian
>it wont fucking die
>still trying to finish off rathian
>still no luck
>get charged by rathian
>get up and see rathalos charging
>go flying off the cliff
>land in fucking zone 10
>dont want to run all the way back and have rathian fully healed
what a load of bullshit
Okay. You know the different charge attacks, right? Well, however you get to the third one, the strongest, fanciest one, you press R as it's charging up and then you pull the sword out, like I said.
"X+A during a blade combo to do the [shield] thrust, x+a as well to do elemental burst [III] from it."
It's probably because it's 10am in the morning and I haven't slept all night but trying to read what you said is giving me a headache. I think I'll just try it out extensively when MH4U drops, everything is easier to understand in practice than in writing.
Or you could just go to sleep and come back when you're not so groggy.
