I don't really know or care that much about Mother 4. If it's good, that's great, if it's not then oh well it's just some fangame.

From what I've seen from the screenshots it seems like Mother 3.2 which is okay I guess but every Mother game has a significantly different design. Even 1 and 2 despite them being similar in many ways. I'll just wait and see.

I just started playing Earthbound last night because Platinum reward. Never touched it or know anything about the series besides giygas is a fetus or some creepy pasta shit and its because the creator walked in on an adult movie as a kid.

Im not sure if its the SNES sounds or the way the characters talk, but everything about the game so far feels really uncomfortable. Is it meant to be this way?

Emulating has some issues which make it more difficult. If you have VBA-M, go into the audio settings, then Output API, and then click the settings for the one you're using. Set the sound buffer to 2 frames to make it easier.

It's still not perfect though. Most songs have a background beat that you can use to easily get 9-10 hit combos going.

As someone who doesn't give a flying shit about fan games, the whole Mother 4 shitstorm really upsets me because it deviates actual discussion about the series and turns Mother thread into piles of shitposting, and the worst part is, it's very easy for trolls to come and derail a thread by simply mentioning the fan game.

Even though I don't give a fuck and I think both, the people who defend the game and those who are against it are retarded, for giving a fan game this much of an importance, I'm more on the side of the people who think they should change the name. I don't know about the comparision between Skyrim with Adventure, whatever, Mother 1 is not irritating to play, only hipsters who never played any older NES RPG think Mother 1 is bad... it's a standard 8 bit RPG. I have an emulator question that slightly ties into the Mother series. When I'm playing Mother 1+2 on the visualboy, the music distorts when a really high note is played.

I can't comment on those because I haven't played any in depth enough and generally stay away from games like it besides Final Fantasy, which I do think is shit. It's not bad solely because of random encounters, but it is annoying and with the other elements makes a game that's extremely slow paced and not very fun to play. I still enjoyed Mother 1, but it's extremely polarizing and could use some improvements..

After you get Duster in Saturn Valley, you can visit the Clayman Factory where you first got your Commander clothes, when you get there, the factory is not only deserted, but it's playing a very sad and eerie melody, caught me off guard.

Honestly the only boss I ever felt like I had an issue fighting in Mother 3 was the Jealous Bass. When I beat the game a second time I knew what I did wrong though, so it realistically wasn't a hard fight at all.

Playing through Mother 3 irritated me for some reason. I enjoyed Earthbound though, quite a bit. Mother 3 feels like it's trying too hard to be emotional or something, I can't put my finger on it. I don't know why exactly it rubs me the wrong way. Oh, and Pokey was very disappointing as a villian, I was completely uninterested in his character. I wish they had gone a different direction with the story/antagonist personally.

A lot changed by the time it finally reached the GBA. It was supposed to have been much longer, so it would have had better pacing and given you more time to appreciate the little things.

I think the bigger problem is that Earthbound didn't really have a solid linear story, it was just a bunch of random shit one town after another that sort of tied together. Mother 3 tried to tell a much more focused and compelling narrative, but it still jumped around a lot like Earthbound and ended up feeling kind of strange because of it.

Earthbound felt a lot more like an adventure, mainly because you travel around to several locations each with their own little story. The overarching Giygas plot is kind of in the background for most of the game, surfacing at key moments. I feel like Mother 3 also had a lot more wandering around, looking for the next story segment.

I think that the little branching arcs each town had made it feel like a little cartoon of sorts, and it always tied into the fact of the main point of the adventure through the Sanctuary visiting.

Kinda like the Pokemon anime, where Ash always had to deal with some random ass one-time character but most of the time it contributed to the overall goal of becoming a Pokemon master.

And now I just remembered why Earthbound is my favorite game in the series. Because it makes me feel like a kid again ;_;

As a HUGE fan of EB (I've replayed EarthBound a dozen times before I played Mother 3), I was kind of disappointed with Mother 3.

However, as time passed by, Mother 3 sorta grew on me. Maybe it's cus to the Love theme. Maybe it's due to all the crazy theories that I came up with that attempt to tie Mother 3 with EB and Mother 1.

There's still one thing that I don't get.

What the hell actually happened in Mother 3?

Was Mother 3 just a dream? Some kind of parallel universe that Pokey got into by screwing with time? And where the hell are Ness and the gang? Why didn't they save the world from whatever destroyed the majority of the world in Mother 3? Why the hell didn't Buzz Buzz warn Ness about the events that take place in Mother 3? And could it be possible that there are multiple Giygases (which explains their different appearances and names), which implies that Mother 1, EB and Mother 3 take place in parallel dimensions? If I'm not mistaken, in EB it's stated on some stone tablet that every thousand years there is an alien invasion. And if this is all true, could this all be the results of Pokey's time travel?
