Stats:
STR - Useless when it comes to melee DMG bonus, get it only if you need it to use new weapons. Also increases carry weight.
END - Useful no matter what kind of character you roll. Increases HP and stamina, latter which is used for pretty much everything from sprinting to augments to PSI spells.
AGI - Movement and melee attack speed.
ACC - Better ranged weapons, though you can handle all of them just fine even without leveling up accuracy much.
PSI - Useless for non-PSI characters, essential for PSI characters. Also a reminder that all ending rewards are extremely powerful PSI abilities.
HACK - Somewhat useful but really boring. Hacking ATMs doesn't give nearly as much money as killing enemies and the plot essential hacking stuff is very easy to get through even with shit hacking level.
MED - better medkits, required for some augments and PSI spells
Mental Balance is a completely useless dump stat. Never put levels into this.

The augments and implants are pretty self-explanatory. Reminder that stealthing is nigh impossible without the cloak augment (which is pretty cheap to purchase).

Researching unlocks new research, weapons, augments, raises max implant levels and gives skill boosts. Always pick slower research as it's fuckloads cheaper and won't actually take that long. Few days of research are actually few in-game minutes.

Also the "you've been spotted" happens always, no matter if they actually see you.

Talking to Rimanah again triggers story missions. Once you've completed the first proper mission you also unlock optional side missions which are accessed through the doors near the landing pad. Maybe your game bugged out or something? There should be missions to investigate several areas in the Federal base. In there you should find a broken AI that's easy to hack, gives directions to another terminal you hack which in turn opens the door to underground ruins. Or there's another spot (near the area with the optional assassination) which leads down there.

Speak to the huge skeleton King dude, he gives a quest to kill mobs. After that run back to him and enter the huge portal (not the regular one beside him) more deep in the ruins.

Or if you find the NPC in Federal base you're offered to join them and you get the Federal ending.

gameplay is buggy, atmosphere is great, the story is pretty much "we put a few details in, let's not write anything else and just let the player fill in the blanks for us so that this will seem 2deep4u and get popular", setting is great, translation ranges from decent to capable of ruining quests, the path to getting the true ending is nice but gets boring when you're overpowered and have to play the game yet another time to get it.

Definitely worth the $2, though. If you upgrade right, you can have fun with combat (cyborg ninja, etc). The AI is psychic sometimes, though.

Yeah, stealthy play isn't really possible. To manage it to any extent, you need to use cloaking. With it you can peek around corners safely, then take out enemies with silenced weapons (the BOSCO sniper rifle is very good for this).

So stealth is more about getting the jump on enemies, moving safely across wide areas and easy recon than staying completely undetected.

If you want it to go fast then just overflow, overflow, attack, attack and repeat

For harder targets (i.e. stuff with 300+ life and 100+ defense/attack) I use overflow mask mask and then alternating between attack and mask, keeping them near 0 attack and making him overflow constantly.
Usually works very well and deals constant damage, and I only need scan or overflow if he turtles or does mask too much.

"Normal" enemies can just be overwhelmed with overflow and attack spam.

Down by the helipad where you usually are when you return from missions, there is a guy on the left side of the walkway, right by an ammo crate if I recall correctly. Just talk to him and he'll have missions.

The Shinji theory is unlikely but I like to think that you're both a Culter soldier, Shinji, and Rimanah fused in some fucked up mess. However, if you WERE Shinji, Amarok would have been a lot less friendly.

Do you all remember how, at Sulaco (you may need to save Dutch for this), he talks to you about how you used to have a black Damocles with runes taken from some ruins inscribed all over it?

Take a close look at the obelisks in your dream world.

Notice: they're jet black, covered in runes, and from certain angles the roots they're stuck to look suspiciously like the weird hilt of the Damocles.

Now, since this game is all about dreams and dream layered over reality, isn't it odd that the obelisks look suspiciously like your old weapon of choice? And notice that if you move near them, you loose all your energy.

Maybe the thing you have to do in the endgame involves the Damocles?

I don't know if you guys truly don't understand the storyline, or you just like calling the game impossible to comprehend, so I'll just summarize the plot for you guys who've beaten it.

EYE major SPOILERS ahead:

There is no Rimanah. Or, rather, he is a projection of you. For easier writing, I will refer to the player character as Rimanah.

Rimanah sent his wife to investigate a forbidden location, for unexplained reasons (Source: Aahmiah, the prophet who tells you this story). She came back and she was caught. He ordered her tortured to death to try and hide his own role in her crime. He ordered her eyes plucked. The Synicle (the white-robed woman) is actually the projection of his wife. Consumed by guilt he slipped into insanity and was trapped in an ever-reocurring dream (the game's campaign). This is also why you see statues of Circe inside the headquarters.

In this dream, he relived his past experiences with the E.Y.E, search for an alien artifact and waging war on the Federation, while also fighting his own guilty conscience (Metastreumonic Force). Every iteration of the dream culminated in Rimanah killing himself.

Occasionally, he experienced a certain moment of clarity, becoming aware of the truth and speaking to a figment of his imagination that appeared to him as his dead wife, Circe. (the final ending). But this was temporary and he soon fell back into the dream cycle, doomed to repeat it forever.

If anyone has any questions about the story, feel free to ask me. I've analyzed this game an unhealthy amount.

For the true ending you need to get all the Gate abilities.

First: Fed Ending, speak to the looter guy as you're leaving the area. He gives you Substitution Gate as long as you're friendly with him.
Second: Mentor Ending, join mentor then proceed as normal until you're forced to kill him. He drops you Triangular Gate.
Third: Rimanah Ending. In the last mission of that route there's supposed to be a Werewolf that you can talk to. He gives you the Hypnotic Gate. BEWARE, SOME PEOPLE HAVE HAD THAT NPC BUG OUT AND NOT SPAWN. IN THAT CASE RESTART THE LEVEL OR YOU WON'T GET THE SPELL.

After getting all those complete the game and in the first tutorial area don't go pick up the gun, go straight right. If you don't meet the requirements there's a wall with writing, but if you have all the Gate spells there's a portal you can enter.

The characters you meet in the temple are figments of your personality, with the temple as a whole representing your mind. Remember the story how the commander sent his wife to the forbidden place and killed her? Change the forbidden place to knowledge of the murders and it makes more sense. The archives said Shinji was a veteran soldier who came back from the war, and all the missions you go through must be some vague recollections of the missions Shinji went through IRL. The Federation is represented as corrupt and criminal because that's how Shinji sees them as a criminal himself. The wolf spirit you are fused with has imprisoned you in your own mind, and your guilt forces you to relive the murders over and over (notice all those statues from the dead priestess/your wife in the temple). Once you get the three Artifacts, you can try to "escape". You will finally meet your wife in front of the place where you buried her. The archives said Shinji buried his victims in the forest, and behind her you can clearly see forest trees.
She tells you that you can enter the final frontier to stop the endless cycles, and wishes you to not break the seal. When you get there, there's nothing to do. It's figuratively and literally a prison (IRL). You can break the seal, escape from the "prison", and resume the endless cycles of killing and fun. It makes more sense than the Rimanah theory because otherwise the story about the wolf and the man the nice ladies tell you about in Sulaco is pointless.

The wolf spirit is Amarok. The three Synicles speak of a "spirit wolf" who fought with the man who must not be named who had "a great hypnotic power", see >>253324182
Amarok gives you the Hypnotism Gate, so it's more or less guaranteed he's the spirit wolf.
However, if you ARE Shinji then it begs the question of why the fuck Amarok would give/teach the Hypnotism Gate to the sick-fuck who buried some 600 headless women on his holy grounds for 12 years.
Lastly, at no point whatsoever is Shinji mentioned as having a wife.
