There was a period just before I quit comp where jug on stand was kind of common and they got good at laying mortars out in the low points of routes.

Also the game needed snipers because cappers could go 300 kph without much trouble and hit the stand at full health. Literally every problem with Ascend can be traced back to regen health. They could have kept regen health if their perk system wasn't so p2w retarded and/or they actually ever did anything with the armour slot.

That, as well as the physics engines of both games.

In T1, you accelerated super fast off a discjump. Even heavies could get across Raindance with just a disc + grenade jump, but controlling yourself midair was VERY difficult once you got a lot of speed. You needed to plan routes carefully and when something went wrong (which almost always did), cappers would just slam into a mountain and die. No regenning health meant they couldn't just DJ again, as well.

T2 (classic, because everyone played T2c) wasn't quite as extreme as T1 in acceleration, but it was still very fast. If someone grabbed your flag, you could discjump to try to chase, or rely on midfielders stopping them. If you were really good, you could discjump, then mine+disc yourself midair to replicate what you could do with grenades in T1.

T:A had very slow acceleration, discing yourself basically increased your speed by ~80-100, tapering off once you passed 200. But one discjump wouldn't put you from a standstill to almost as fast as a capper, which was the problem. And because of regenning and the piss easy aircontrol in Ascend, it was too easy for cappers to run circles around everyone else. That's why Hirez had to implement bandage fixes in the form of perks and items (heavy, rage, force field, etc) that just bogged the game down.

On my shitty ricer 9800GT graphics card, it ran like shit, but those brief moments of above 20fps, it was incredible.

Imagine a shooter that has full 360 degree combat, not just left and right, but up and down.
