>Pay to win. How will this help me win if I'm not playing, if I'm not playing I can't win. This is more of a novelty than dlc. It's optional and doesn't unlock anything new. Plus you can't use it online or in the single player modes as far as I know.
>>252271271 >>252272121 Why do I keep seeing this all around /v/ now? I saw it when people mentioned Bravely Default censorship and now I'm seeing this in here. Is this the new le epic meempost or something?
>>252272348 I feel like almost everyone will be compelled to buy at least one, and I predict those Peach figures will disappear in a day. Who wants to bet that Nintendo makes Super Princess Peach 2 after that?
>>252272121 >skylanders REQUIRES you to buy the toys to even play most of the game >Disney Infinity requires the toys, but hasn't tried to sell 4 different versions of the game >These things just store information and look nice
you have to admit it's not nearly as bad as the alternatives.
>>252272292 I figured it's mostly parroting since it applies to a lot of other things, so people use it like a buzzword at any chance they get.
I mean you could say this about Sonyfags defending paying for PSN+ to go online, Valvefags defending some of Steam's practices, or even Nintendofags defending bravely default censorship, but most of it's just apply the usual epic maymayes.
>>252272564 Yeah, you basically train them and take them to cockfights. Like Pokemon, or a fighting tomogachi. The same figure can also be used for multiple games if the character is already in the game, like using Mario characters in Smash and Mario Kart.
>>252272564 It's mostly why I think they're neat >E3 2015 >showing off new games >bring out ken after he figures out how to git gud at Smash 4 >unveils a table full of Marth Amiibos >everyone there gets one, gets to train against Ken and his Marth firsthand >CPU literally pulling ken combo bullshit on you in order for you to learn to git gud
>Bravely Default censored It's okay, not like you look at their hot, sexy bodies anyway >covers Tharja's ass I play it for the gameplay, not because mai waifu. who likes asses anyways? You poop from there >Criminal Girls censored IT'S OVER NISA IS FINISHED FUCK LOCALIZATION >Shinovi Versus censored WHAT HAPPENED WITH MUH TITTIES. NEVER BUYING ANY MARVELOUS GAMES AGAIN FUCK THAT PUSSY FAGGOT COMPANY >Skylanders LOL PAY @ WIN WHAT A FUCKING JEWWWW >Disney Infinity MORE LIKE JEWSNEY JEWFINITY LELELELELE >Amiibo Glorious Nintendo will buy 10/10
>>252273128 Because Amiibos are different. You don't unlock the characters by buying them. You just access additional content. It's literally exactly like the Pokemon Rumble U NFC figures (which nobody seems to know about).
>>252273302 It's literally like Skylander toys. Whether or not Nintendo uses them to unlock in game content is to be seen, but seeing how consumers have accepted Skylander and Disney Infinity they would be stupid not to do it.
>>252273128 >>Criminal Girls censored >IT'S OVER NISA IS FINISHED FUCK LOCALIZATION >>Shinovi Versus censored >WHAT HAPPENED WITH MUH TITTIES. NEVER BUYING ANY MARVELOUS GAMES AGAIN FUCK THAT PUSSY FAGGOT COMPANY >>Skylanders >LOL PAY @ WIN WHAT A FUCKING JEWWWW >>Disney Infinity >MORE LIKE JEWSNEY JEWFINITY LELELELELE
Nobody says any of those things Except like, criminal girls. And only because NISA is really just awful.
What part of Shinovi Vs is even censored? I would legitimately cancel my pre-order since the whole philosophy for supporting that game is that XSEED is going the no-censor roue.
There's a recent trend on /v/ to look at one picture or read just the headline of a Nintendo related article and come up with the worst possible scenario for it so you can shitpost about it.
See: Großostheim. The shitposters saw, "Nintendo closes headquarters, 130 lose jobs," and that's all they needed. The truth they so conveniently missed was that the headquarters was just relocating, and the people who lose their jobs didn't care enough about their jobs to stick with the company. It's the same thing with Amiibo: people don't want to read what it does when it's easier to see the comparison to Skylanders and extrapolate from there.
>>252271114 It's not physical DLC but it's just as bad, it's technically locked content that is only available when you buy an extra add-on.
People don't discuss Skylanders or infinity for the same reasons a bunch of other games aren't discussed and that's because they cause an influx of shitposting. While not the same I think the target audience is indeed the same.
This isn't some Skylanders tier bullshit where you have to buy figures to use characters. This is a figurine that can hold a customized cpu opponent and nothing more. Sure, they could have done this with flash drives, but where's the character in that?
It's kind of like being able to transfer miis using wiimotes. It's not actually that useful, and it's not some pay to win shit. It's also not quite physical drm. It's a nifty system that doesn't affect actually playing the game with other people, not like you can team up with these things online.
>>252273615 I'd say less so due to being able to actually own the physical DLC and give it away if need be
Hence why nobody calls limited editions bad. It's practically the same day 1 cosmetic bullshit you'd get from games, but instead of your fuck whatever character being the one to get the cool T-shirt, you get it in real life.
>>252273486 >they would be stupid not to exploit people
Haven't you heard the news? This is why Nintendo is always doomed, they have a limit to how willing they are to exploit their userbase.
Most companies wouldn't blink a eye for offering up half a game, with 3/4 of it DLC, and the ending as a expansion pack. Meanwhile, Nintendo only has rare free DLC that is meaningless, like a real world car that can't even be used online.
Lesson learned: When you think of how Nintendo can be saved by exploiting their fans, they won't do it. Especially if it would work.
>>252273302 >You just access additional content. Like DLC? Just pay more to actually get the game full experience is the same shit people complain about DLC, but here you are saying it's different hence instantly better.
>>252273795 I don't see what's locked. It's like a device that let's you train a fighter and then take it elsewhere. Sorta like the Pokewalker thingie. I suppose it still hasn't been released yet though. No need to panic yet, however.
>>252273486 It's LIKE Skylanders toys, as in it is similar. It DOES use NFC technology. It has been confirmed that you can play without NFC figures (as implied by the comparison to normal AI enemies as opposed to NFC ones, otherwise there would be no comparison). Also, every character will very likely be unlockable without the figures.
The quality of the figures has been seen to be pretty decent, especially for their confirmed price of comparable to Skylanders figures (10-15 USD). Basically, they're bonuses. You do not need them at all. You can play with or without them.
>>252274120 It is similar to DLC. It's not like restricted DLC, though, it's more like an expansion; an expansion that would only be fully functional with an added physical peripheral due to how it was designed.
>>252274652 There is nothing to be defended because there is nothing wrong. This is not DLC. This is peripherals that enrich gameplay. It cannot in any way be free because what you are using is physical, and physical objects cost fucking money.
They likely use a more advanced version of Brawl's level 9 AI which nobody saw because fuck Brawl. But basically the AI learned to be better or worse from your fighting style. It's more likely they reuse that with fixups than have some other entirely new and crazy system.
If you can't procedurallly git gud, then your amiboo won't.
>>252274221 > It's like a device that let's you train a fighter and then take it elsewhere. Because we live in an age that it's impossible to do without internet. IT is restrictive because you can ONLY do it through the devices hence if you want to experience sharing and training fighters you MUST buy the device. And pokewalker came bundled while also being a simple device.
It's not a recnet thread, /v/ have always been this way.
All that people have always cared about, videogame wise on this board is to either falsify or willingly misunderstand information for the specific goal of making other /v/irgins cry huge crocodile tears about it.
In the old tongue, they were known as "trolle"
There is a small fraction of these people who are actually console wars retard who do this to create more discord because they think it means their favorite corporate jew is winning the imaginary contest. Trolls, I can tolerate, console wars babies, they are the worst kind of fucking pathetic shitstains on this board.
I don't know about you, but I've been waiting for a Pit figure to play with and train like a pokemon. Pretty much playing the role of Palutena, or a Pokemon Trainer with Greninja only on consoles or something. IT SOUNDS FUN DAMMIT.
Good DLC >Skyrim DLC >Added new side quests irrelevant to the main story of skyrim >Reasonably priced
>Far Cry Blood Dragon >Added completely different small storyline with no association to main game
Bad DLC >Sims >Adding a metric fuck tonne of shit that should have shipped with main game due to it being major gameplay parts
>Bioshock Infinite >Adding important story elements as DLC that is not shipped with game
Now look at the amiibo, it is adding an optional feature and does not lock out anything, you can still play against NPCs that are equally as strong, all the amiibo does is give you the ability to save a NPC that gets stronger via training and allow for portability whilst getting a well designed figurine
Amiibo shares a lot with Skyrim and Blood Dragon DLC as it does not detract from the last game and is not fully essential to enjoy the base game, that is what good DLC is
>>252275508 >Oh thanks nintendo for allowing me to store a single character on your glorified storage device, I guess I will spread my ass when I want another character instead of simply putting said data on a server or normal USB. Shit, how selfless of them, guess they really don't want your money but to offer you alternatives (at a price) of something that can be done for free.
>>252275659 So you're saying the whole amiibo thing is useless? I Agree.
>>252271114 Citation needed: the thread. No one has said it has anything to do with DLC The best you can do, at least with the Smash ones is use them to git gud. Shit can't be used to assist you online.
>>252275243 This often times results in borderline (or full-on) input reading. The computer will react inhumanly fast because it knows your inputs the instant to put them in.
One obvious result of this is the ability of AI enemies to catch projectiles thrown at full speed from very short range. A human would only be able to catch it if he either did so accidentally or got very lucky. A computer can just tell when you've thrown it exactly and either dodge it or catch it if it wants.
I think they're cool looking, and I think children will like them. I'm buying Link for my niece since she's going through a bugged-out Zelda phase right now and has a Wii U. If she ever ends up becoming fond of Mario, Kirby, or any of that other shit, then I'll likely pick her up one of those, too, depending on how well these things do and what the full range of their capabilities ends up being.
>>252276018 >does not lock out anything You can't use the feature without buying one, hence it's locked.
>all the amiibo does is give you the ability to save a NPC that gets stronger via training Because you're storing fairy dust into the thing instead of information that can be placed on a USB or uploaded to a server for free. >portability Don't throw words you don't even know what they mean
>Good DLC You just said good DLC adds a lot to the main story or a brand new story, yet you claim a glorified usb is good DLC when it brings NOTHING to the game.
>>252276214 >>252276351 Because people who are fine or support this will give a message to the industry that we rather pay for services/features that could easily be free hence encouraging other companies to follow.
>>252276243 > hosting a server for everyone in the world's amiibo would be a fucking terrible idea Why would you call people dumb when -you- are this dumb, Other services host as much if not more and for free, you obviously don't know shit.
>>252276727 >portability >don't even know what they mean it means you can take it from place to place easy, what even is your point?
>good DLC adds a lot to the main story No I did not say that, I said that good DLC expands upon the game and is not a continuation, Dawnguard was good as it added a new storyline, Burial at Sea was bad because it was a continuation of Booker and Elizabeth's story
>You can't use the feature without buying one, hence it's locked. Does anyone actually care that the feature is not in the base game?
Another reason why its acceptable is that the premise of the entire SSB franchise is figures coming to life and battling, now they are making this even more real by creating these figurines
>>252277292 >services/features that could easily be free >your idea is to literally host a server with every amiibo on it and just have everyone download eachother's data when they get to eachother's houses to play some shitty training RPG mode
>>252277485 >easy If you think carrying a figure is easier than a USB or even putting the info in a server you have backwards mentality
> I said that good DLC expands upon the game and is not a continuation, So things that Amiibo doesn't do?
>Does anyone actually care that the feature is not in the base game? People who buy the game?
>Another reason why its acceptable is that the premise of the entire SSB franchise is figures coming to life and battling, now they are making this even more real by creating these figurines And thus totally acceptable for charging us for a glorified USB
>>252276961 You don't seem to get the point. From the first gen what did Pokemon offer? MULTIPLE VERSIONS. If you wanted all the content (pokemon) an installment had to offer, you either needed a friend with the game, or guess what? Buy the same game TWICE to get both versions to complete your pokedex. It was an idea so clever and ahead of it's time that kids never saw it coming. Even now there are people like you that don't get that even Nintendo can be a corporate mastermind at times. I feel bad for your loss.
>>252277679 >DLC MUST ADD TO THE STORY MODE Man, I guess there's a lot of DLC that isn't actually DLC. It adds a better AI opponent, the capability to save customizations to a physical device, and the ability to summon your customized character in-game during fights. Don't like that? Don't fucking buy one. You don't need it to play the game.
Before you say Amiibo is shit watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rIwWCioBpEM
What can you see in this video? Toys coming to life, that is the point of this. Just adding the feature as some shitty NPC training game that can be transferred via USB or online takes all the soul and is boring which no one would bother with it.
>>252277521 So the best course of action is keep giving them green light to screw us even more.
>>252277691 Uh, yes? That's not hard, it happens all the time and with all kinds of services, I am starting to think that you believe the information of the fighters you train will exceed a GB or something.
>>252277898 >Strawman Memory cards are ourdated and were obviously made to take out more money from the customer, Would you say that requiring memory cards on a system is a plus?
>>252274568 no that is fucking bullshit and you know it. There is no need for a physical peripheral, the CPU's could very easily be tracked in other ways, either online or locally. Saying it's only possible with those shitty figures is the worst kind of irrational fanboyism.
And, also, my point was that Nintendo makes MAD FUCKING DOSH with Pokémon for over 14 years now what with the show, the trading cards game, the new gen being released almost every fucking year, the re-release of updated older versions, the merchandise, the clothing, the ammount of handhelds it sells, etc etc etc.
People keep saying Nintendo is finished and shit by reading two lines from a sensationalist blog article without fucking noticing that Nintendo has established a giant cash cow that's been running for 14 years and sending dosh directly to the headquarters.
>>252278553 How is /v/ at Smash? I think I'm pretty good at it. I beat the Smash 64 Single Player without dying on Very Hard recently (to confirm my suspicions that you indeed do not unlock Metal Mario), and I've almost made it through Brawl on Intense Mode (I always get fucked by Master Hand for some reason, even though I beat Boss Battles on Intense). I don't play much Melee because I have a Wii U, and the only 2 it supports are Brawl and 64.
>>252278741 >Would you say that requiring memory cards on a system is a plus? Yes. i could easily carry them anywhere and have my save files with me. They were replaced by the standardization of SD cards.
>>252278973 This is likely how Nintendo wanted to implemented, by making real Smash Bros Trophies akin to those in Melee and Brawl. I'd buy one even if it didn't give me any in-game bonus just because I love the series. I'm happy they're releasing trophies regardless.
>>252278316 >>252278467 >Don't like it? Don't buy it! That's the principle of every product and service, I hope you haven't complained about anything ever else you'll be hypocrites.
But then again it's necessary to make clear wheat a product does and more importantly how willing are we as customers to allow companies to sell us something that could have been done for free, let alone praise them for such.
I assume your argument won't budge from the "don't buy it if you don't like it" which is sad but at least I made my points clear.
Guys, let's just settles this quickly. Amiibos are a stupid little toy Nintendo's making. It locks up the content of having a custom AI that you can train, a feature not in the game normally. They can be customized and used in various games. They cost around 15$, to do something that could easily have been done with a USB, and some in-game button to reach the content. Most people won't use them because they're toys, and they're definitely not something worth having 100 shitposting threads over. Are there any objections to this?
>>252279352 One way you can look at it is that it's a Smash Bros. Trophy. If you're a fan of the series, you'd want one anyway. Except it also gives you in-game content. I say it's a win-win for fans, since fans would be the only ones interested enough to buy them anyway.
>>252279265 >This is likely how Nintendo wanted to implemented
Well yeah that's what I'm saying. They want to implement a feature that could easily be in the base game, separately in the way that will get them the most money. Any other company does this and it's the blackest most underhanded business practice of all time, Nintendo does it and it's great because you just want to hot glue a Lucario figure.
Against what? Nigga this isn't a fucking war and I don't care about your stupid internet argument. I'm not here to share my opinion on these figurines just so I can be shat upon by pompous and pretentious teenagers on their summer break.
Somebody said Nintendo is not exploiting their fans and I simply said that they are in the form of Pokémon, an extremely successful series that spawned an ocean of merchandise and sequels that refuses to die even 14 years later. I'm not for or against Pokémon, Nintendo or their figurine gimmick, I'm just stating the fucking truth. Nintendo doesn't need a new gimmick or to go down the EA way to be saved, they already have plenty of long term gimmicks to help them survive for a long time if just as a smaller company than what they are right now.
I'm so sick of everyone always seeing everything in two fucking issues, pick a side and if you don't agree with one, you are obviously against it. Get the fuck out of here with this bullshit. My opinion doesn't need to support neither of your bullshit console wars side.
>>252271114 Fuck's the point of this? these are obviously meant for children, why put them on a stand and give them no articulation? same goes for skylanders. What's the point of making it a toy if you can't play with it? or can you remove the stand and have articulations?
>>252278454 >>252278501 Wondertrading isn't necessarily the most consistent way to get what you want. But online friends? Sure. I just pray for people with poor social skills not to throw a fit when they don't get a shiny legendary for their fucking Bidoof.
I'm upset about you, first of all, because you miss the point of my entire argument by going "hurr durr so u like figurines or not yes or no black or white Jedi or sith?" when my argument said absolutely nothing about being for or against anything.
I'm here for the meta discussions and because my guilty pleasure is to read bait threads and console wars to see little babies get upset over other people's purchase prefference. I comment and participate in meta discussions once in a while when somebody says something interesting or when I can share knowledge or insight, as useless as it may be.
But okay, want my opinion on the figurines? I don't care, I seriously give no fuck about them. Maybe I'll buy one as decoration like the Merth one because I love Marth, Fire Emblem and decorative items that I find pretty, but as a gimmick, I give no fuck about it.
So where do I stand? please tell me otherwise I can't form my own opinion BAWWWW!
>>252280182 >IN THIS CORNER >WEIGHING AT AROUND 300 LBS >THE KING OF KONG >MASTER OF THE HOLY DONGSTORM >DONKEY "FEATURE LENGTH" KONG! >AND IN THIS CORNER >WEIGHING AT ABOUT 2 LBS >THE HERO OF THE LOWER WORLD >CRUSADER OF CAKE AND WARRIOR OF THE STARS >KIRBY! >LET'S GET READY TO KERFUFFLEEEEEEEEE!
I could always make the counter argument that there's no point in joining your cock fight since, in the end, it's just a bunch of babies crying over a figurine gimmick. Let me participate in the meta discussion now
>>252281467 But by having an opinion on it, you are taking a side. You can't say you didn't do what you been doing and continue to do. Crying meta doesn't indemnify you of being for or against it. Stupid
But if I don't use them for their intended purpose and would rather use them for decoration because the digital content gimmick of the figurine doesn't interest me in the slightest, then your argument about it being DLC bullshit doesn't affect and, thus, I cannot be in opposition with those who are against it for the fact it's a "DLC gimmick"
Holy shit bro I am a cosmic anomaly! I am for certain aspects of it, but indifferent about others! What does that mean? I contrl the Matrix, I control the cosmos.
I really don't think I'm going to bother with any of this mess. I'd rather just pay for my video game and play it without worrying about how my virtual pet figurine is doing.
Now on the other hand, if they decide to give some kind of perk for characters who's figures you level up and plan to release the entire cast for games it's available to use with, I might just buy myself an Iggy Koopa and Zelda figurine for Mario Kart 8 and/or Smash, but mostly because I'd just want a high-quality Iggy Koopa figurine.
>>252273796 Ignorant people will be always complaining about something they didn't try to understand at all. I met some idiot who was trying to tell me that that "cpu" used for FP is locked on disk DLC content... And he refused to listen any arguments, just kept saying only that line using terrible logic.
Either just some shitposter attention whore, who made this threads and posts just for sake of it.
>>252287805 >Do you really want that? Hmm, good question. Should what happens on 4chan stay on 4chan? Perhaps I cannot answer that. And really, what would you be shouting us out for other than discussing Smash on a thread on a site full of the strangest faggotry, and happening to encounter you? The anonymity of the site would present a lack of credibility of any of this ever happening. Given it would make some users squee if you mentioned the public bathroom of the internet that is /v/, some people want to keep it confidential anyway. I say if you find any thoughts interesting and worthwhile from anonymous, I got rumors about Kraid and other bosses being in smash run from overhearing Smash Fest employees. But hey, I'm just a random-ass dude on the internet you met 5 minutes ago that may or may not have been very fond of the podcast you do with other dudes. I probably am not the wisest or most trustworthy source in the world, so ask the Triforce whether this encounter is worth discussing at all.
>>252273128 >Bravely Default censored I don't give a shit. I played it because it was basically an old-style Final Fantasy. 'sides, I don't get turned on by chibis. >covers Tharja's ass I don't give a shit. 'sides a lot of folks said the edit was sexier. >Criminal Girls censored If only NISA would stop localizing games entirely, and NIS would stop producing games, maybe people would stop thinking JRPGs are mediocre garbage and fap fodder for lonely people. >Tittie Ninja Vita censored It is? Ah, don't give a shit there either. >Skylanders I don't care. Cool concept, but I don't really like the figures. >Disney Infinity I almost bought the limited edition Jack Skeleton one since I'm a fan of Nightmare Before Christmas >Amiibo I'm not going to lie. I'm going to buy some since I like Nintendo's characters.
>>252292541 Let me reiterate that I should probably make a Twitter sometime soon then. Will do though. Did you already throw in your two cents on this physical DLC argument thread, or did you just come to see what other people had to say?
>>252293719 They're not for everyone I guess. As for the figures, I'm definitely throwing money on my mains, and probably more useful to get the mains of my friends as to practice against. I'm especially wanting to get Captain Falcon's figure. For some reason I have a feeling that they're finally going to update his outfit to the one he wore in F-Zero GX, or otherwise make it an alternate costume.
>>252273509 >What part of Shinovi Vs is even censored? Several hours late, but I'll hazard a guess here, but the original Japanese release had a glitch where if you installed the DLC without updating the patch, you would get nipple bumps on the character models. XSEED responded to someone saying that glitch would be pre-patched out. Not exactly censorship per se, but a reason to import if it matters to you.
