That article is the biggest load of shit. does all the maths of previous games using the entire generations hardware sales then applies it to the wiiu's current instal base ignoring the fact that it will push units and continue to sell until the end of the gen it doesn't even mention that either.
>Have a friend who for some reason hates the Wii U >He talks about how there's no games he wants on it >Fair enough >Games he wants start getting released on the Wii U >He complains that they're on the Wii U >Why? >Because it has no games
>>248488010 >people watch Nintendo Directs on their Wii U more than on their computer.
Interesting, because each individual Smash direct (jpn/west) has over 1m views online. Does this mean that most Wii U owners are watching on their consoles through the eShop and most of the people watching on their PC's are actually people who don't own a Wii U? Would love to get some eShop viewing figures from Nintendo.
>>248487659 feels like a non-issue, because even at it's lowest, it's still severeal million copies, something most games can't even fream to achieve. Looks like those millions of article claiming every new mmo fails because it doesn't gets more players than wow in a week.
>>248487659 a game like mario kart 8 week continue to sell at retail for 50 until the end of the wiiu life cycle, unlike yearly installments of games, that are only relevant that year. I worked in a game store, and people would come in and buy Mario Kart Wii everyday, even after the wiiu was out.
>>248489349 Sony/MS didn't completely sever all ties with the gaming press in favor of Nintendo Directs. Even this E3 Nintendo kept to itself and did a rival 3-day long stream of its own content.
And you wonder why the media hate them? When there are no exclusive previews or reveals to gain click views? The gaming press cannot make any dosh from Nintendo anymore. Why go to polygon for Splatoon trailers when you can watch direct footage from Nintendo with the devs themselves?
Nintendoom (whilst true in a lot of ways) is the only way a journo can talk about Nintendo these days. Everything on the positive side has been cut out and is now delivered straight to the consumer by Nintendo themselves.
>>248488308 I realize that. But MK is a series that moves units. At least that's what people here say. So I wanted to see second week figures to see if it fell off from that 1.2 million or if they moved another million like people think it will. Lulz.
>>248488601 he has a point I dont want to buy a console for just for one or two or even 5 or 6 games on it, even if those were games I really wanted and were looking forward to I want to buy a console that has games I already know I want, plus a bunch of others I might also get, im not going to be playing those 5 games forever, i'd want quite a few other things to chose from a large library is basically a consoles strongest potential asset, and it just isn't there for the WiiU yet. It also has shitty outdated tech and an asinine control scheme, which are the main reasons im probably not getting one. to be fair, all this gen consoles have ITSFUCKINGNOTHING.jpg for a library right now
I've come to the opinion that MK8 is the worst MK so far for 2 reasons.
>coins in item boxes
These are absolutely useless, in previous games if I was leading I could at least expect a banana or green shell in 1st place to defend myself with. Instead now you get coins most of the time that don't help you in the the race at all. Fucking useless.
Just when I though the rubber banding AI couldn't get worse they can now rubber band behind me and then boost passed me with a draft.
>>248489883 don't forget, on /v/ indie has the same meaning as on /co/. Capcom, Konami or EA are also indie, because you have to be nintendo, microsoft or sony to nor be indie. That's just as how stupid the local lingo is.
>>248490090 >If Mario Kart's trend continues and Nintendo sells Mario Kart 8 to 20.37 percent of its existing 6.17 million user base, sales of the game would reach 1.26 million. >sold 1.2 million in less than a month Projections getting BTFO
>>248489883 Because you said games games games, half of the games showed are indie garbage.
The exclusives sony showed are; The Order 1886, Entwined, inFamous DLC, LBP 3, BloodBorne, Let It Die, ABZU, No Man Sky and Uncharted 4. So you got 6 games that are not indie that Sony showed. So many games!
>>248490094 >asinine control scheme Nigga the control layout is identical to any other 8th gen controller, there's just a touchscreen for added functionality in it. The only difference is you have your hands a little further apart, spacing for fingers/thumbs is exactly the same.
I could use the same argument for the DS4 and its touchpad.
>>248490090 >the sales rate is going be static! >there's only 6 million Wii U's and no more will be sold, it's impossible to sell more than 6 million copies of Mario Kart! >okay, so maybe they'll sell a few million more in two years, but it's still not DS/Wii's sales! >here's a factual chart comparing sales between consoles and games that finished their market cycles, and the new one that's barely began its own! Doom indeed! This article is fucking hilarious
>>248490481 outdated tech, yeah, sure, but neither the bone nor the PS4 have that issue to such a degree. I dont have any issues with either of their controllers.
the wiiu gamepad is just a shitty idea, it's clunky and uncomfortable to hold, and the touchscreen is only useful if the entire game is based around using it, otherwise it breaks up the gameplay, and is just an overall pain in the ass, to stop playing and fuck around doing whatever with the touch screen.
Microsoft and Sony dont have those issues, and their hardware is better. PS4 is the only one im interested in buying.
You'd get the same result if they posted articles about MS or Sony shitting the bed probably more because you'd double down on fanboys rushing to their defense as well, but then they'd lose favor with one of their two meal tickets.
Because Nintendo doesn't pay for reviews/marketing, they've got nothing to lose.
>>248490094 Now what if the console throughout it's lifetime releases 5 to 6 games you want per year? Will you still justify not buying it because it doesn't has enough games you want? Are you really that dense that you need at least 50 games that appeal to you so you can buy a console?
While that headline is click bait bullshit, it is true that mk8 is not gonna help nintendo as much as they would like to think it would.
The kind of people that would be so hyped for mk8 and the new smash games that they already bought a wiiu or are holding out for a wiiu just for these games are not your casual wii gamers that brought nintendo all those sales last gen.
Yes it sold over a million copies on its opening weekend, and now sales are tanking because everybody that wants it and is willing to pay for a wiiu has it already. When sites bring up wiiu sales, there's a good reason they word it with shit like "sales are up by 666%!", its because normal weekly sales of the wiiu are almost comparable to the vita. 6.66* a really low number is still a really low number.
>>248491573 Maybe it's just me then, i didnt like it much when I tried it at a friends house. Nothing will ever be as good as the gamecube controller though they could just keep remaking the same controller for every gen and i'd be happy as fuck with that
>>248490776 Video game journos want that because nintendo DARES to not participate in their circlejerk by making their nintendo directs. Journos are used to getting 500 bucks worth of shit for promoting games/platforms.
>>248487659 It's the fastest selling Mario Kart game yer, but it won't keep selling much for much longer because of a simple reason. There aren't that many WiiU's sold. Mario Kart Wii sold 30 million copies. That's 4 times as many WiiU's are sold.
It's quite a unfortunate fate for the game. It seems to be the best in the series but because of the console doing badly, it won't sell as well as it deserves. With Nintendo winning e3, I hope to see the WiiU picking up steam.
Currently searching for a summer job to get money for a WiiU but since I live in a shithole I doubt I will find one. ;_;
The article fails to mention that Nintendo can somehow make a profit with less than 700,000 units sold. Hell, the director of Fire Emblem has said that a WiiU Fire Emblem would need only 600,000 units worldwide to make a profit
>>248491903 They'll might as well now make the GC the third Wii U controller extension, release a new model with clicky analogs, an extra Z button and a home/select button, and there you go. BUT WAIT, they are already doing that thanks jesus
>>248491042 >the wiiu gamepad is just a shitty idea, it's clunky and uncomfortable to hold I bet you've played a Wii U for all of 5 minutes, haven't you? The gamepad feels just fine and it's used in a lot of great ways in a lot of games. Having inventory and maps use a different screen is useful and it means you can do 2 player local games without having to use splitscreen. It also makes 1 v 4 games viable, which Nintendoland actually does a really good job of showcasing
>>248491896 I've already played Demon's Souls nigga, I own a PS3. I don't need to buy it twice.
I've got no incentive to get a PS4 just for Bloodborne seeing as I've already played 3 Souls games in as many years. The series is already oversaturated and from the gameplay footage that's been shown, BB may as well be DaS3.
>>248491042 >The only people who say the wii u controller is uncomfortable, have never tried one. Seriously. 100% of the time, literally 100% of the god damn time, everyone who talked shit about it because of the way it looks, after trying it, actually LOVE the gamepad more than regular controllers. It's comfy, fits in your hand nice, it's fairly light for what it is, controllers are responsive, good gyro sensing, touch screen is responsive. I'm afraid I'm gonna have to call you a liar, a shill, a troll, and above all, a fanny bandit.
>>248491042 I have all three consoles because I have the means to do so and here's my take:
Ps4: great interface, flawless switching of apps, nice graphics, comfy controller, streaming is flawless, party chat is excellent.
Ps4 flaws: (from my experience) would never turn off it I selected off after pressing the ps button. It would always make a humming noise. I was playing ffxiv while in team chat with two others and it bricked. Won't turn on, it is kill. Lost hope.
Xbox one: great interface, awesome speech recognition, nice graphics, built larger to stay cool in hotter environments, better launch titles, awesome party chat, kinect is awesome (if you aren't a tinfoil.) THE most superior controller, game clips within friends list. Skype.
Xbox flaws: frame rate drops occasionally.
Wii u: monster hunter was fun. Mk8 was just like 7 but gravity and nice colors. I want to sell it.
Ok and then there is the PC: great graphics, models, can use whatever team chat you want, gets the better game (if it's a great team who ports.) kb and m, freedom with mods, steam if that's your thing.
PC flaws: exclusives to each console.
To me, I think my favorite combo is the xboner and PC.
I've done my part. Bought 2 copies with TRU's buy 1 get 40 percent off. Sold them, nearly broke even, while keeping a copy. Bought 2 more this week with Target's promotion. Gonna sell them for pure profit.
>>248488729 Meanwhile on the fastest selling console with 8 GORILLIONS of people http://www.polygon.com/2014/4/10/5600894/infamous-second-son-sales-1m-units-in-nine-days 1.2kk in 2 days on a system that nobody owns vs 1kk in 9 days on a system that every retard owns.
>>248492401 The N64 is actually quite ergonomic. You're not supposed to use all 3 handles at once, your left hand is meant to either hold the left handle for using the D-pad and L button, or the centre handle for the analogue stick and Z trigger in place of the L button. Your right hand is always on the right handle to use the face and R buttons.
Most retards just look at it and go BUT I DON'T HAVE THREE HANDS LEL without actually thinking about it. Shit was comfortable unless you were playing Mario Party in which case it was an instrument of pain, it's just a pity those analogue sticks died so easily.
>>248491302 Gaming Journalism would become extremely spiteful due to lesser funds. Much more people fired, companies going out of business, and more independent reviewers rising up. The mainistream ones will become more aggressive for clickbait, so since they can't shill for anyone anymore they're gonna rely on stimulating popular social agendas, basically, for gaming journalism to get their clicks they're gonna go SJW tumblr tard crowd.
Meanwhile, Sony, and MS are gonna get shat on because reviews will no longer be positive due to being paid, reviewers will have to review the game for what it is now, and most of the time it'll be shit.
This will anger fans, as the other biggest influencing factor in gaming journalism is the fans getting pissed off because their opinions are not agreed with.
Essentially they will still somewhat be biased, but more towards the mainstream popular opinion so that they don't piss off their demographic.
It would end Gaming Journalism, MS and Sony would crumble. I don't say this with any bias, but it would literally be the best thing that would happen for Nintendo, because they stayed away from this shit and do not have to worry about the sudden change of events. It wouldn't affect them, they would just keep doing what they're doing while the industry tears itself apart.
>>248492435 The only current gen console im really looking at is the PS4, which ill use in conjunction with my PC, but I can see where you're coming from.
And the PS4 im only mainly considering because the only games coming out soon that I want are all for it, The Order and Bloodborne specifically. Im probably not going to bother picking it up until it has more than just those that interest me though, which is basically the main point of what ive been saying
>Mario Kart 8 sells 1.2 million units in two days >Titanfall gets that number in a month. >Nintendo games have a habit of selling over the course of a generation. Hell, Smash bros Melee was a top seller right up until the Wii launch.
>>248492250 Pretty sure it was sony who dominated. Unless youre a 3 year old who got impressed by little mario toys to scan with big clunky wii u piece of shit controller. Its kinda sad that wii u is in such a shitty place that nintendo has to resort on these proven but dirty tactics to appeal to collectors and kids.
>>248492121 I played WiiU for 5 minutes and the tablet thing is the shit. It is the most comfortable controller I have wrapped my big ass hands around. No cramping anywhere.
Also, WiiU sales are gonna explode this holiday. I bought into the whole "WIIU NO GAMES"' thing for a while and I just bought a WiiU after E3. I went to grab another game besides mk8 and realized that I wanted w101, pikmin, wind waker (never played gc version...), 3d world, and dong freeze. And I still want smash, splatoon, star fox. Probably more.
Case in point I thought WiiU had no games until I bought a fuckin WiiU and went to buy games and realized there's a shit ton of good games.
Nice try fagmo, I'm gonna put my WiiU right next to my NES and Import Dreamcast and you can go jerk off to some big manly guy in a grey and brown corridor made by some shit unpaid intern who has been using 3ds max for 3 months.
The boring part about Nintendo games it I don't get to hunt through the levels and find bug sand all the shitty 3d modelling that's been done.
>>248491148 It's beyond Nintendo not paying gaming sites for marketing now though. Nintendo provided their audience with everything they wanted to see of the games this year. No need to go through the media or bring a group from a certain site back to a private room to play an exclusive demo that you could only see on a particular site.
With the reception of the Treehouse coverage, I think it worked too. People can call this place "Nintengaf" or whatever the fuck, but other communities seem to have really liked Nintendo's coverage this year as well. I think journalists are scared shitless of this, though.
Seriously, go look at any major gaming news site. If you went just off of that, you would think Nintendo barely showed up. I really hope Sony and MS copy the way Nintendo did their coverage a bit next year just to watch journos scramble.
>people rather talk about sales instead of playing vidya a year from now all forms of video game journalism will be charts and sales numbers. people won't discuss games, they'll just talk about how many copies were sold.
>>248503458 I already have a Wii U, love it, and am also getting an XBox One from a friend who doesn't want his any more for 250 dollars. He has Dead Rising and Killer Instinct and two controllers. Seems a good deal to me.
>>248500782 >Seriously, go look at any major gaming news site. If you went just off of that, you would think Nintendo barely showed up. I really hope Sony and MS copy the way Nintendo did their coverage a bit next year just to watch journos scramble.
They won't. Mircosoft/Sony gets' more benefit abusing PR. Nintendo using direct is just a way to dodge Black PR campgin on the Wii U.
>>248507706 It benefits Journalists to shit on Nintendo because it gives them views. Saying that the Next Smash will sell like shit, and following the bandwagon is easy clickbait.
Saying that MK8 will be the worst selling mario kart game is meant to be a hype killer, and is going to make crazy amount of money for Polygon. There is no benefit of dicksucking Nintendo's games they don't benefit business.
Where as Sony/Mircosoft do buy ad revenue to market the shit out of their games.
>>248508758 nope. you can hack the wii mode for wii and gamecube games though >3DS was barely able to get flashcard out >thinking the WiiU would be hacked this early The big 3 stepped their anti piracy game up
>>248508656 This isn't to say that there is a grand conspiracy aganist Nintendo, but ultimately it makes more sense to jounarlist to side with MS/Sony will feed them ad revenue. Talking shit to MS/Sony will make them stop supporting their site, they will get less money.
It's just like if Neogaf talks shit about Amazon, they will get fucked up. You can't bite the hand that feeds them
When I link this >>248506412 Note how the Admin of Vgchartz states that because Sony/Giette had a deal with them, They decidied not to write anything negatively about Sony.
>>248490776 They don't, people just don't want to see fanboys shitting up fucking everything. Same goes for sonyggers and PC. Also since Nintendo is the longest running console manufacturer and they are beginning to become the "niche" console that you will need to a buy a PS4 or hopefully a PC with for multiplats, it makes it a prime target for clickbait articles.
>Looks like Mario Kart 8 was just what the doctor mechanic ordered for Nintendo's struggling Wii U; Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime told Polygon that, compared to the week prior, Wii U sales quadrupled the week after the game's release.
>Fils-Aime also noted that 18 percent of Wii U owners purchased a copy of the game in its first weekend, but this number likely includes sales of the game from the bundle that was offered upon release. Still, the numbers are nothing to sneeze at, as the game topped 1 million on release weekend, making it the fastest-selling Wii U game to date.
Wii U breaks even, and now they're selling even more? Well beyond Microsoft at this point, Sony is however at an advantage as it takes no loss this gen from a sold console, it makes pure profit, but jesus the rest of Sony is so awful it takes PS4's success and washes it down the toilet of tv & cell phone drain.
