How would you conceptualise "difficulty" in video games?
>what is difficulty?
>is harder = more difficult? (more hp makes a boss harder, but more difficult?)
>smaller margin for errors = more difficult? or does it just become pure luck?

Ive thought about it alot and it seems to me like ultimately all difficulty can be summarized as time taken to see something you haven't seen before
Dark souls is (relatively) difficult because it takes some time invested to beat enemies/areas consistently
Final Fantasy 1 is (relatively) difficult compared to something like FF9 because it takes more time to acquire experience to the level you need to progress to next area
Or to compare across genres a shmup like Deathsmiles is difficult compared to a game like Breath of the wild because it'll involve a lot of memorization and practice to consistently get further (on 1 credit anyway)
not having to replay sections to attain mastery or items/experience etc is a key component I feel like otherwise visual novels would be difficult and i dont think anybody would really agree with that definition

How would you feel about Tekken game releasing called 'Tekken Pure'. It's main characteristic would be that it releases with a very slim, minimal roster consisting of only pure, gritty hardcore martial artists and fighters. No lucky choe, no anime robot girls, no devil jin or akuma... It would have:
>Story mode consists of arcade mode with character intros and endings. Story revolves only around a tournament, and the motivations to enter that the characters have. No world wars and demons.
>There's a couch co-op Tekken Force beat em up game included for funzies.
>Online tournaments is a big focus and of course online and offline versus modes.
>No customizations but you can unlock multiple alternative costumes.
>The default costumes are their most authentic outfits that spotlight their fighting style. Hwoarang wears his Taekwonde gi, Steve wearse only boxing shorts shoes and gloves.
It would release with say only 10 characters who represent a unique style:
>King
>Hwoarang
>Steve Fox
>Marshall Law
>Lei Wulong
>Asuka Kazama
>Ling Xiaoyu
>Paul Phoenix
>Sergei Dragunov
>Bryan Fury (the old version that was less a caricature of himself and more the replicant from blade runner)
>Baek Doo San (SUB BOSS for arcade mode, secret unlockable)
>Feng Wei (SUB BOSS for arcade mode, secret unlockable)
>Heihachi (FINAL BOSS for arcade mode, secret unlockable)
Later some characters could be added via DLC. For example they could mix the arcade mode up with adding a new boss instead of Heihachi. When that character is replaced as boss, he/she becomes playable. Jinpachi, Kazumi, Wang Jinrei, ... those types of characters. They could also add some more normal characters. I wouldn't mind fighters like Miguel, Josie Rizal or Leo Kliesen or Lee Chaolan and fighters like them.
