Open world games- something that great in concept, usually flawed in execution. How do we fix them /v/? First suggestions: end the map size dick waving competition. And nuke Ubisoft.
The first is stopping the map size race
World get simply too large to design them properly or fill them with meaningful content

I dream of an open world game with huge world, so big that there would be several cities and travelling from one to another would take, for example, 2 real hours. No fast travel.
>boring
No if you do something more than hold W. 2 irl hours would translate to, for example, 4 days in game, so one in game day is 30 min. You would only travel for 15 minutes, then stop, spend five minutes making camp, hunting, cooking etc. and the last 10 minutes you wouldn't have to play because that would be sleep and the game would skip it. Plus you would meet monsters to kill, some other encounters, people to talk. Companions would accompany you in travelling and tell you their stories otlr the lore of the world, or they would sing songs in camp beside the fire before sleep.
That would be the pinnacle of comfy.

I recommend focusing on hubs instead of a seamless map.
Witcher 3 did this. Now we need something with good gameplay.
She's still on sale, y'know?
Do robutts poop?

No.

Alright Ed Boys, we need to talk about this shit. Rolf needs to be nerfed now. These constant Rolf ganksquads are getting completely out of hand. It's not even funny anymore.
>>382379842
Just use the cupcakes of sorryness and he becomes piss easy
People still play this game?
>>382379842
Just level on a PvE server and xfer when you want to pvp. Ed World II is good because its low pop so you can grind easier. Otherwise get one of your friends to switch to a Kevin so you can escape on his bike if you get ganked.

VAGRANT STORY, SATAN.
5 hours in and I'm not really feeling it, doesn't feel like a traditional Zelda game at all. Feels more like a rehashed Assssin's Creed.
Did they seriously substituted all traditional dungeons with those Shrines? Like wtf, I read about the Divine Beasts, but they don't seem to compare to the traditional dungeons at all.
>>382379338
Because it isn't a traditional Zelda game.
It's rare that Nintendo does something so scarily different to previous installment in one of their "core" IPs so honestly you're better off just going into it blind, rather than comparing it to previous Zeldas.
It's basically it's own thing. Like the original NES Zelda 1 fused with Elder Scrolls.
>>382379338
And oot felt different compared to lttp. Games change.
>>382379338
>Feels more like a rehashed Assssin's Creed.
Trolls don't even try nowadays.
Welcome to the tournament where we decide on /v/'s favorite console of all time! Earlier we voted on the match-ups in Group A, and now we will be voting on the match-ups in Group B. After 3-5 hours the results will be finalized and tomorrow we will move on to the semifinals.
Match-Ups:
3DS Vs DS

Colecovision Vs Sega Master System

>>382379101
it's gonna be a handheld or sega master system vs either gamecube or snes, either of which will win over
horribly weighted
>Wii U getting that far
Jesus Christ, /v/
fuck, OP here, I have to admit I fucked up making this bracket. Should I keep going with this one or make a brand new one and start over again?

piss off
>>382379093
literally only one game
My mother only wants a neon and I went to 20 stores in the city and there were none left.
Is it worth 5 britbong /v/? I know it's apparently shit but I was a new apocolypse wasteland sandbox to explore, will this fill that itch?
>>382379045
it's not even worth pirating
just avoid this shit game
>>382379045
I mean it's 5 bucks, it shit all over the Fallout franchise but it's not Mass Effect: Andromeda at least.
go play a real Fallout game instead
Why would any one want this nonsense?
The same reason that Nintendo is putting out their garbage; To make easy cash off people's nostalgia
Learn some critical thinking you faggot
>>382379041
I could just buy and put any game I want on it
>>382379041
>People want an easy way to play our old titles
>Should we release remastered versions of our old games on our E-Store?
>No, let's tie all those games to a piece of shit hardware
You have to give credit to Nintendo for being able to stick to a theme.
Time for another episode of 20 questions. Try to narrow the game down as fast as you can using yes/no questions. Let's go!
The last one just died so we're migrating to a new thread.
>>382378784
Is it Japanese?
>>382378784
Does the game involve a man in uniform?
Would Christ approve of this game?
anyone ever beat wings of vi? is it worth playing through? red pill me
Got 1/2 of the way through then lost save data, started it again recently and got about 3/4ths of the way through before throwing in the towel.
>>382379124
forgot recommendation, if you like hard platformers and don't mind being stuck on a screen for 30 mins then you might like it
Wings of Vi is one of those hateful perfect play games. Where a good platformer like Mario has engaging level design, Wings of Vi doesn't have anything but difficulty. You do the same jumps a hundred times. It's just shitty. Play I Wanna Be The Guy to get a sense of what I mean. Play Super Meat Boy if you want something fast and hard that respects your time.
How come western video games are moving away from traditional features like boss battles and to more cinematic features to capture that movie feel?
because final bosses are too videogamey, whereas QTEs are very visceral and appeal to a wider audience
Video games these days are just test footage for movie adaptations. Just like how comics are merely storyboards to pitch to film studios.
Devil's advocate: most boss battles weren't that good to begin with.
Sure, there were some that stood out for either having memorable music or interesting solutions, but by and large most boss fights were just "attack the big bloke until he falls over", which was just a drawn-out version of what you were doing beforehand.
Not only that, but there are plenty of western games that still do boss fights, they just tend to not be FPS or ultramainstream. Or more often they do boss levels because there's more stock in the journey rather than the big bloke at the end of it.
Does /v/ like the Breath of Fire series? I've never played any of the games and want try some, which games are good?
>>382378690
I tried playing the first one on GBA. The menus and UI were horrendous so I stopped within the first two minutes. Might be better in Japanese since you need less space, but the translation made it horrible.
>>382378690
3 and 4 are usually recommended.
Dragon Quarter has a mixed reaction from people. It's a either love it or hate it.
1&2 are okay but kinda dated especially compare to other jrpgs from similar era.
1 is dated. Fun if you can stand old rpgs like dragon quest. 2 is good. 3 is the best by far. 4 is also great, but is a step down from 3 in every way aside from graphics. Don't bother with anything else.
>"professional reviews" say it's shit
>steam reviews say it's great
What does /v/ think?
Why don't play it and find o-
Oh wait, forgot where I was
>>382378508
It's both really good, and complete shit at the same time.
The mechanics are really cool, especially the random enemies - it sort of simulates an ecosystem. That is, they're cool until you step through a pipe into the next room and find 3 lizards and a vulture who want to eat you.
PC patch gives better lung capacity, so drowning isn't as bad. Overall QoL changes with the PC patch make it a lot better.
There are some real problems with the game, and it definitely deserves a lot of the criticism it gets, but it is very rewarding when you can get it to work right. It's just very hard to get it to work right.
>>382378508
It's a niche game. Reviewers always review for the lowest common denominator. They represent the 'dude-bro' opinion since that's where the money is.
Ok /v/ I'm buying one more game from the steam sale - what should I get? JC3, GTA V and Oblivion are other options I'm considering
>>382378432
SH is a cool game but definately not worth 15 bucks. Maybe 7-8.
Hollow Knight
>>382378432
Oblivion is quite outdated, but still is a good game tho. If I were you I would get GTA to play online, it's a very fun game.
