I liked Asami the best because she was the only one who didn't act like an over the top jerk the entire time and got shit done when they needed her tech ability. The chances of his editors not knowing the story is extremely unlikely and actually would be pretty weird. He is obviously always discussing current and future events with them of the story. Sasha's death is just one example.

I'm still always up to date with the manga, even though neither Historia nor Ymir are currently there and the writing isn't really that great, since I'm still interested in the mysteries and how this battle will turn out.

There is a 0% chance Isayama would drop all of these major plot points and hints and either drop them or resolve them via flashback or second hand through other characters. Such an important character will not die offscreen, regardless.

Marco died offscreen but he was such a useless character that he was essentially a plot device for Jean's development.

You could, though. We received a whole bunch of information about Grisha in a flashback. We could have a similar flashback, by Bertolt, recalling the meeting between Ymir and Zeke. The two of them could have had a conversation that revealed all the secrets she needs to reveal for the sake of the reader, and then Zeke could have killed her.

Just wanted to give my opinion on why Ymir went with Reiner and Bertolt.

How I see it our little knight is playing both sides of the field in order to protect her queen. As stated, Ymir made the decision to go with Reiner and Bertolt after witnessing Eren's coordinate ability. Prior to this she wholeheartedly believed that the Titans were going to win, and therefore wanted to move Historia outside the walls where she believed she'd be safe. After seeing this though she realizes that the humans actually could win. Basically she's no longer certain who will be victor of this war, so in order to insure Historia's safety no matter the outcome, she leaves with the Titans. By doing this she insures Historia's safety if the Titans win by having "allegiance" with them (exemplified when Reiner says he will keep his promise to Ymir regarding Historia) and insures her safety if the humans win by having her remain on that side (trusting that the SL is strong enough to keep her safe). Kind of a double agent course of action. Plus her saving Bertolt from the Titans was likely to assure that Reiner and Bertolt would owe her something (i.e. the promise)

I feel like this is why she apologized to Historia when she made the choice; to show that even if Historia didn't understand her actions, it was all for Historia's safety. Just my interpretation.

There is a lot of convenient writing in snk to not give us any answers yet. For me Ymir going with BR also was just convenient writing, because Isayama expanded the story and he needed a shitty excuse to not give us any answers. The SLs reaction to it makes it even more obvious. Same fucking here. I have been living in dread ever since I first started reading and got to chapter 50. The reveal about Grisha's death only made me more anxious, because it meant that much vital information about a mysterious character could be revealed even in a death flashback, which meant Ymir was no longer as safe as I had previously hoped. And then when we had the Marco flashback from Bertolt's POV recently, it just filled me with even more dread.

And then you had Keith who could tell Grisha's story, though we still don't know absolutely everything about Grisha yet, which I think will be revealed when they reach the basement.

Then there's Ymir whose backstory is pretty much unknown to anyone. And if there's anyone that does know it then the person is either very, very old (which is unlikely) or already dead. So only Ymir herself would be able to reveal us her backstory. And I doubt the basement contains anything about her backstory.
