Yes the hue is slightly different, but it still falls in the light auburn range. Also, the fact that you cannot tell they are the same character because of slightly different hair color and a missing headband is mildly alarming. I mean, even putting aside the hair color (and seriously, she has the exact same haircut/style), she's obviously 1) surrounded by the same group of friends and 2) follows the context of her intro - has crush on SJ, is introduced to SJ by others, in a different class.

The long-haired girl seems to be SJ & Mophead's classmate/friend, who is also friends with bobcut. Bobcut, from a different class, has a crush on SJ, is introduced early in the series (b-day party invite). Since then bobcut has apparently hung out with them, since they have long-haired girl as a common friend. But it's the same girl. Literally the only difference is the slight change of hair color, which doesn't even stray outside of the "light auburn" range.

But Tan Jiu has pretty significant sameface, so hair color and style is one of the most identifying factors. There are a couple other girls at the school shown with the exact same haircut/style but dark hair. A lot of the characters also have the same light tan hair color. I think it's pretty reasonable to think it might be a different character when she's suddenly shown with a different hair color and no hairband.

As far as I remember, there has been one girl with the same/similar bobcut + light hair. And that's our girl with the crush. She really stands out, because the majority of Tan Jiu's girls have black/dark brown hair. Which may have been intentional. Moreover, there still glaring tells like height and context which make it pretty clear. Always wearing a headband is also a terrible anime/cartoon thing which generally happens because of character models and continuity, something that static mediums like comics can avoid. Frankly it's just simply most likely bobcut was drawn as a one-off without much though, and later TanJiu decided to bring her back, and didn't like the hairband anymore.

Well shit, you're right. But clearly long-haired girl (we really need some names for these girls) knew Mophead and SJ previously, and are friends. I would guess they were classmates in a previous year. But the six degrees of separation still doesn't change - bobcut from a different class is friends with long-haired girl who is friends with Mophead/SJ.
