How will Yuno get lucky in Kyoto?
Will having to deal with Nakayama's fear of nudity lead to someone actually mentioning Yuno and Miyako's sleeping and bathing togeather on a daily basis for almost two months of in universe time?
I don't think Ume would have wasted a frame drawing this if it did not have a purpose.
Like they are going to have to talk Nakayama into the bath, and Miyako will just blurt out "Its ok, Yuno and I are naked every night!"
And then the cat will be out of the bag.
I dunno, it would make more dramatic sense to do the reveal when the other regular characters are present. That is, unless Ume wants to focus on Yuno finally realizing her relationship with Miyako is kind of gay, but I don't think that discussion is ever going to come.
Its not going to be dramatic, more comedic.
Yuno will realize that something that she had asked for a night or two because she missed Sae and Hiro has now gone on for two months and she will wonder if she is imposing on Miyako.
Although it will be something of a redo because she had a similar thought when Matsuri spent the night with them. She was surprised when Miyako didn't want to leave her room, that Miyako was enjoying being with her.
Reminder that SHAFT skipped the chapter where Nakayama gets immensely turned on from watching a 40-something year old woman strip.
Its going to be a fun trip with this girl. Will they have the first night this next issue? The 28th is five days from now.
Also, will Nakayama faint when she sees Miyako's Miyako's?
I've been loving the yuri feeling in recent chapters. Ume is the best.
Its her repressed homosexuality that is causing her to be anxious about seeing naked people. For whatever reason she cant bear to admit she is gay even to herself, but when she gets aroused she cant deny it.
She borders on androphobia, but then again so did Sae. Remember how Sae reacts whenever she thinks a guy is coming on to one of her friends. Not just the one time with Hiro, but when they thought Nazuna was popular with boys.
Nakayama is also like that.
Subtext. Hiro and Sae act like a married couple and there's a lot of general blushing and friendship love. One of the chapters in the manga has a girl getting a little horny when she has to draw a nude woman model for class.
In the manga, Yuno and Miyako have been living together in Yuno's apartment, sleeping in the same bed and sharing the same bath every night for about two months now, starting on the night Hiro and Sae moved out.
Subtext. If you are looking for explicit yuri relationships, you won't find it here, although Natsume is in love with Sae.
But it's generally agreed that they are all gay among the fans. Ume is a yuri fan herself and has neatly paired up all the main girls
Sae and Hiro act like a married couple and everyone seems to acknowledge unspokenly that their relationship is somewhat romantic in nature. They are definitely fucking now they have an apartment together, if they weren't before.
Yuno and Miyako started out quite best friendy - but they have been sharing a bed for quite a few chapters now, and there's signs that their relationship is growing more gay.
Nori and Nazuna are pretty gay - between Sae/Hiro and Yuno/Miyako. They seemed to jump straight into it as soon as they were introduced.
Yeah, it's subtext in the sense that non-weeaboo people would use the term. As in, 'heavily hinted at that two girls are in a relationship without coming out and saying it outright'.
Basically what >>1826411 said. The relationships are built through the strong emotional bonds between the pairs rather than just being used as gags.
Read the manga too. The anime skipped over a lot of Sae/Hiro moments (the Hidamari rooftop scene in particular) and a very sweet Nori/Nazuna development chapter.
I don't remember if it was anime original or also in the manga, but the scene where they're in the bathhouse checking each other out while blushing is about as blatant a way of showing that two characters are into each other as I can think of this side of a sex scene.
I'm hoping that they are leaving some stuff for season 5 - to hit us with a lot of gayness at once. I very much want to see the rooftop scene animated. Especially if they imply that
Sae and Hiro made sweet beautiful love on the roof after talking.
The thing is that Ume isn't explicitly saying that any of the Hidamaris are in a relationship, even if she is stretching it to the very border of plausible deniability.
Even when Yuno literally walked in on Sae on top of Hiro in a sexual manner, it was fine as long as a unconvincing hurried excuse is given.
Note also that Sae's sunburn couldn't be so high up her arm if she had had her shirt on.
I don't think they went as far as having sex on the roof, though. It's not a very high building and Hiro's obviously a screamer.
I meant something like a camera pan away at the moment of hand touch to imply more happned - then cut to a sunburned Hiro and Sae awkwardly explaining why they are sunburned.
Too much lewdness in Hidamari would be distasteful.
Hopefully Ume will drop some hints that Sae and Hiro have moved beyond mutual attraction and are really in a relationship, now that they share an apartment.
Doesn't have to be screamingly obvious, but there's no way they could live together alone without anything happening. Hiro had probably thought up a killer attack plan to get things moving.
I like to think Sae and Hiro graduated to being for reals girlfriends at the end of their third year. Aside from the rooftop date, the way they act and talk on their class trip is so couple-like and free from awkwardness.
Stop that. Hidamari threads are friendly places.
All the Hidamaris are wonderful in their own way. If you want to provoke Yuno/Miya discussion, post pictures and talk about things.
When is Yuno going to stop living in the moment and start to consider how she is going to make a life with Miyako past high school?
They have to at least get into colleges near each other first.
I'm afraid Yuno's refusal to think about the nature of her relationship with Miyako means she'll also fail to think about its future, resulting in them separating after high school. Miyako will watch it happen with an empty smile on her face, but she won't say anything because she wants to respect Yuno's freedom. Yuno will then spend college sad and drunk, trying very hard to not draw any conclusions from how she keeps waking up next to large-chested blondes.
Near the end of her third year, she will be confronted with the possibility of being seperated from Miyako.
The idea will make Yuno very depressed, and she'll do a lot of thinking and introspection on her feelings towards Miyako and her future, and ask Sae and Hiro (who at this point don't even bother hiding it) for advice. Eventually, she decides that she wants to stay with Miyako forever(not explicitly romantically, but we all know). She bashfully tells Miyako this, while hoping (but unsure) that Miyako feels the same way. Miyako cheerfully agrees - "I want to stay with Yunocchi forever!".
Offscreen, that evening, they take a bath together, and then they make sweet love with the lights off while holding hands.
Yuno studies hard and things work out, and they end up sharing an apartment. They recall that in her first year, Yuno hoped that her and Miya's relationship would one day be as close as Hiro and Sae's. She smiles, as she knows that she has succeeded.
Maybe something will happen during summer.
Also its now the 28th, Kirara Carat should have shipped today. Was there a Hidamari Sketch this month or is it another missed month by Ume?
>it's subtext in the sense that non-weeaboo people would use the term. As in, 'heavily hinted at that two girls are in a relationship without coming out and saying it outright'.
Wait, in what sense are "weeaboo people" using the word?
Binetsu Kuukan was recently updated so maybe she was busy with that this month?
Actually I wish she would finish Tetsunagi KooniAnyway, I'm sure the next volume will have some more content to make up for it and plus asagi chou is working on volume 8 so there might be some extra goodies hopefully.
There aren't any raws for the volume 8 extras, unfortunately. At least Yen Press's release is slated for December so we'll get the extra pages eventually.
>implying Hidamaris don't exclusively have sex with the light off under covers while handholding
Yes, it is. Also homepage with more art:
I'm glad this thread isn't dead, and that people with taste and refinement have scanned and translated this doujin. So, since I imagine the seiyuu voices every time I read Hidamari Sketch manga, I was wondering if any of the drama CDs had yuri-suggestive content. I would assume that Hiro and Sae have something like that, but what about Yuno and Miya?
Looks like this month's issue will be about the stay-at-homes, if this is any indicator
They're only in that one strip, the rest is in Kyoto.
Nakayama is the one who ends up getting lucky.
And up until now I assumed Miyako was wearing her usual t-shirt and boxers...
Saving this thread with the power of comfy love

Did anyone else read this page as Mami and Nakayama secretly crushing on each other and realizing that Yuno and Miyako are a couple?
I don't quite see it, but maybe. They do pair up to compliment their partners' bodies on the next page though.
Shoot, I was hoping that this would be the time when someone would actually mention Yuuno and Miyakos relationship and actually bring attention to it.
It seems though that Yuuno and Miyako are surrounded by too many polite people.
That they were able to get Nakayama into the bath without a scene was a wasted moment frankly.
It's Yuno, the u is short. They're staying for multiple nights so it's possible Ume is saving a Nakayama bathtime freak-out for later. There's still time.
I'd really like to step it up and buy some of these doujins myself.
If /u/ is right and Miyako has indeed stopped sleeping in her own bed (and the translation is correct), Yuno is lying about their relationship here, since "often" implies "not always". That would suggest she realizes their sleeping arrangements are out of the ordinary and might not be approved by others.
I could totally see Yoshi being one of Mom-sensei's girlfriends...
Anyone wanna translate this 4p thing if it's complete? Pic unrelated.
And by 4p I meant 4 pages
But she claims to be a pure maiden?
Would Yoshi lie?
Please someone make Ume deliver a chapter this month!
Check this out /u/!
Ume Aoki exhibit at the Ueno Museum in Tokyo. Wait time 300 minutes to get in- FIVE HOURS.
Travelling exhibition of Claude Monet paintings visiting at same time- 10 min.
This is what a 5 hour long line of people looks like.
That's just a kanji. The Nazi swastika faces the opposite way.
Also, the Nazis didn't invent the swastika. They just appropriated it from Buddhism/Hinduism and ruined it for everyone else in the west.
It's not a kanji, it's a swastika. Swatstika's are a religious symbol from buddhism/hindu that kinda thing that the Nazi's appropriated. While the west sees it a recoils, about half the world sees it the same as a crucifix or half crescent moon.
Her outfit reminds me of someone.
Reminder that Mami was the one who went around the girls locker room unhooking Nakayama's bra and Yuno's skirt.
TL of this tiny doujin when?
I have always wondered. Was this ever scanned?
These are the only two images I ever found.
And really they are the same image.
Oh wow, I think that's the best rendered Yuuno not drawn by Ume herself. They noticed that Yuno isn't flat rather she is small everywhere. She has an average female figure- she is just 9/10ths scale. Pic related.
I was going to rewatch s04e06 once again, then I went to read the corresponding part in the manga, and I noticed this. Ume please.
Shit, man. That fucking sucks, this is Dr. Breen all over again. Why do all the good talented people who deserve to live and be happy have to die so fucking young? This shit isn't fair.
I think this is the end guys. I don't think there will ever be a season 5 for Hidamari now.
They cant have a graduation for Yuno and Miyako without Yoshi present and I don't think recasting Yoshi would be accepted any better than recasting Hiro would have been.
Pretty sure they wouldn't change the actual character. Like any other recast, it'll just be a slightly different voice (usually they'd try to get the new seiyuu to be as close as possible to the original).
Recasting is somewhat rare.
Look at the situation with the VA for King Kaio, who was working in Super and was fucking sick and wasn't replaced until they guy couldn't do it anymore.
The anime industry really hates change, and changing VAs seems to be really high on the hate list. I don't know if there will ever be a new season for Hidamari, but her death does put another reason to not green-lit it.
That seems to be more of a case of the guy wanting to keep doing it as long as possible, illness be damned. I'd hardly say there's as much industry hatred towards recasting as you think there is (at least from the business end). At the least, they'll certainly recast her recurring role for the next Prisma Illya season. In the end, the decision to make more anime series of stuff lies with the usual crew (author, editor, committee, etc) and while the loss of a seiyuu is sad, it's not an end-all to a franchise. Certainly didn't do Strike Witches much harm when Mio's VA got replaced in its second season.
In Illya she surely will be replaced. How they will pull it off, it's anyone's guess. It's not unheard of that companies, out of respect for the VA, let the character "die" with the them. Nothing is going to stop the juggernaut that is Illya for a while, though.
My intent was only to say that her death gives another reason to the producers to not consider making another season of Hidamari, not that it was set in stone that any adaptation was dead and buried forever with her.
That's more of an American thing (more prominently Simpsons when the VAs behind characters like Troy Mclure and Mrs Kroboppel pass away). It's unlikely in the event of Illya and Hidamari since their source comes from the manga, meaning they wouldn't axe a character from the storyline because their usual VA can't do it anymore (and again, nurse from Hidamari has had like four of them). Living or dead, actors, just like directors and studios, get replaced all the time.
Here's Ume-tentei's thoughts on the matter
>I'm sorry if I'm not able to put this into words very well. I just felt I should write something today. If I don't get back to work soon, Miyu-tan will get mad and yell at me. I want her to get mad.
They can take the Persona 3/4 route, where the major character Igor stays, but he doesn't say anything that he didn't say before because recording new lines have become impossible. But then that character is kind of a glorified NPC, anyway.
>Yuuko says that, in an ironic twist of fate, Miyu getting sick served as an excuse for them to get closer because Miyu felt more at ease talking about her disease with Yuuko, who had gone through a similar experience. The initiative came from Miyu herself. and Yuuko was initially surprised because, according to her, they didn't really have a relationship outside of work.
Then she goes on to talk a bit about the following 4 months after Miyu got in touch with her, which were the last 4 months in Miyu's life too, and express how she feels about Miyu and all. It's pretty emotional.
>Miyu (jokingly) wanting to marry Yuko, but Yuko refused.
>Kana Asumi seems to be pissed that Miyu's death was concealed from her. She hasn't been out in public since that fan event last weekend and has not tweeted anything.
I need to stop reading things about Miyu. That girl was universally, apparently, loved by her peers. It breaks my heart every time someone talks about her.
>Kana Asumi seems to be pissed that Miyu's death was concealed from her. She hasn't been out in public since that fan event last weekend and has not tweeted anything.
I can understand that, but maybe she's just grieving too much to make a comment or to allow herself to be seen on public.
/a/ translated the marriage joke:
>From then on we'd talk on that Line thing everyday on the cheap smartphone I had just bought.
>For lack of a better thing to do we'd spend an hour everyday on it.
>No matter how tired her body was she'd say something or other that made me laugh. I was liking her more and more every day.
>I love you! Let's get Married!
>I love you to! But I decline the offer!
>Who do you chose then? Me or that girl!?
>Are you on your meds right now?
>These meds are a pain in the ass!!
Gotouza-sama best bro.
>Me or that girl!?
I bet it was Kana Asumi, that pimp...
I am going to miss her
/a/ has translated Goto Yuko's whole blog entry.
>I want to shout I love you! I did so many times!
>It was the end of June when she contacted me. Even though we’ve quite friendly since we participate in a lot of shows together, we’re not that close enough to spent time with each other in private. I wondered why she contact me, but then I realized the reason while talking to her. It was probably because she found it easier to talk with me, who have been hospitalized until recently.
>I cried together with her. Why did the illness must come to someone who work hard like us. Illness came to everyone equally that it’s unpleasant. We half-laugh half-cry in the end.
>It’s ironic that what make us close was the illness. After that I LINE to her everyday with a dirt-cheap smartphone that I just newly bought. Since I’m free I talk to her about an hour everyday. I become to love her who tried to make me laugh regardless of tired her body is. I love you! Please marry me! I also love you! But I decline! Who are you going to choose, me or that girl!? Are you doing drugs (medically)!? This drug is really tough!! If you don’t do it today, when will you do it!? In Japan, it’s only us who use this style of speaking for medication! (laughs) A facetious speak just like that. We joke with illness and treatment that others looking at us they would say it’s inappropriate.
>When she could temporary leave the hospital, I visited her mansion because she said she’s lonely. She greeted me with industry jargon “Yuko-tan, maji tenshi!” (Yuki-tan is a goddess) when I arrived. She said she sorry that didn’t put on her makeup recently, and for greeting me in pajamas. My impression with her is she don’t normally do makeups. Maybe she’s just bad at it ← Rude. But seeing her without makeup for the first time was really cute like she’s a junior high school girl. I wish I’ve said it to her. She finished Katsu Sandwich and a cream puff that I bought for her in an instant. After that she took out snacks and asked between potato chip and Jagarico, which one do you want? I tell her are we high school boys or something!? while eating the snacks. It’s still long from here. Even though it might be though, if there’s no other choices but to try hard then let’s try. You don’t need to think you have to try hard, just keep thinking you won’t give up is enough. You’ll recover. I believe it. You’re strong. Gentle. Round. Cute. You’re talented. You have a lot of special things that’s too precious to just give up. I keep chewing the potato chip while telling her to keep looking forward.
>No before long, my messages to her in LINE are left unread. Group of friends who were looking after her invited me to the watching group when I started getting panicked. The watching group has people who are a very close of her since a long time, and are the one who were supporting her with her illness for all along. I thought she’s truely being loved. If the story about this break out then the group would be full of people that everyone is not allowed to say anything to anyone. It was a group with very little people.
>I heard that her condition isn’t very well from the group and went to the hospital. She were recovering a little by little and tried to say something to me. I’m regretting that I couldn’t hear her well. She said “A…”. Enough, enough! You will get tired if you speak! I stopped her. That decision was probably a right one. But I should have listened to her. What were you going to say?
>And few days after that, you passed away. Before that you were showing a lot of hopeful signs. Everyone who watch over you saw a hopeful light from your atmosphere that you would return back to normal very soon. And that day came so quickly. The day we have to say goodbye were so sudden. It came when we still couldn’t close our mouth from opening wide. Your decreased portrait and your last moment was so beautiful I want to show to everyone. That I could almost hear your voice.
>It was very short period that we became close to each other. It’s only 4 months that I hestitate to call myself a friend of you. But that time was so thick and tough and so lovely that I can’t get myself straight.
>I was hesitate about writing this blog. There’s nothing I could really do for someone who already left. No matter what I wrote, in the end it would be just my self-satisfaction. But if there’s one thing I could do for her, it was probably to tell the world how wonderful you are. She’s being loved this much by everyone around her. I said it even as a newcomer who just became captive by her.
>I won’t ever forgot your cute appearance, your funny personality yet always thoughtful of others, your beautiful voice and your splendid acting. Come to think of it, it’s an amazing thing. Your voice that are blessed by the shows and the characters are left in memories of a lot of people. Not only that but it will also reach someone in the future, reach even people in an era where we’re no longer here. I don’t think leaving traces that you’re alive is a main objective of living, but for you who love to play and entertain people, you must be really happy about it. Even it may be shameless for a friend to say, your life that give people dreams and being loved by a lot of people is really wonderful. Although it’s sad, but I’ll live on keeping the fact that I could support you(?) even for a short time as something to be proud of. Be prepared since I’m going to keep praising you to the skies even from now on.
>I arbitrarily interpret your last words with me as either “Arigatou” (Thank you) or “Aishiteru” (I love you). I will keep thinking back on it while walking forward.
>Matsuki Miyu, you are really lovely.
>I love you forever.
Why would you do this to me onee-sama? Just when I was about to stop grieving you pasted this whole thing for all of us
I'm legit depressed and sad right now. I can't even be happy with /u/ subtext between the two of them.
like a full apartment building?
I'd consider that pretty damn plush.
But I'd see why they might consider "mini-mansions" to be full mansions considering their size restrictions. I had a a Korean relative come over once and they thought my house was huge. (it is big but not mansion tier)
Hiro wants to hear if Miyako and Yuno became lovers on the trip.
Yeah, that sounded quite peculiar, if they were talking about anything but yuri. I seem to recall Sae and Hiro having a bunch of embarrassing couple moments on their trip, so it must be what they mean.
To tell the truth, I am a little disappointed about this senior trip. I expected more Nakayama freak out, and more Yuno and Miyako getting closer and starting to reflect on their relationship.
I agree with this anon. They probably take each other for granted. The moment when they realize they have to split will be the first time they'll start thinking about their relationship.
Just finished rewatching the anime.
Waiting for new manga chapters is so painful.
So, I was browsing pixiv and I saw this. And the first thing I thought was, "This is how Hiro would draw a portrait of Sae".
This months chapter is done!
Links up at asagichou.
Color pages promised for next month.
>Yesterday, December 14th, the ceremony for the 49th day after Matsuki Miyu's death ended without incident.
>In accordance with the families wishes, "In the hopes that even a single case of this illness might be avoided via early detection, we would like to make the name of the disease known," we are publicizing it here.
>As was posted on July 14th, Miyu went to the hospital for further investigation of poor physical condition; prior to that, she had been originally hospitalized for acute pneumonia of unknown origin on June 30th. The results of the investigation were "chronic active EB viral infection", an exceedingly rare disease which was, while not designated as incurable, known to be extremely difficult to treat. At that point Miyu's fight against the illness began. On September 4th she was miraculously approved for a temporary discharge from the hospital, but was readmitted on September 18th. On October 27th, at 1:18, Miyu Matsuki passed away, the final cause of death being malignant lymphoma.
>Even in the face of grueling medical treatment, we staff saw that Miyu was always fighting positively, and believed that she would be able to make a full recovery.
>At some point, Miyu herself wrote a note that she would like to be of help to people suffering the same illness. On the occasion of this posting, by increasing awareness of "chronic active EBV infection", we hope that it may be of assistance in increasing early detection and treatment development.
>Once more, to all those who supported Miyu Matsuki during this time, including the staff, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
>In the end, we received a message from her parents:
>"Our daughter fought brilliantly against her illness.
>Only just, let me go back to my work, must have what was driving her forward.
>Just before her passing, when she was still conscious but unable to speak, she could still nod her head in response to our questions.
>To the VAs who have been working together with her, as the parents, we were surprised and deeply thankful for everyone's overwhelming cooperation, support, and kindness.
>And, to all the fans who have been supporting Miyu Matsuki all this time, truly, thank you."
>On the 15th day of the 12th month of Heisei 27
>The staff at 81 Produce
>Only just, let me go back to my work, must have what was driving her forward.
Hero of Labour!
Ironic in that Epstine-Bar Virus is the cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as well.
She had probably been battling fatigue all her adult life, so when it escalated she really couldn't tell. Not just merely the Japanese work ethic.
Also explains why she approached Yuuko. Even if she had survived this was going to be a chronic disease that she would have to live with, just like Yuuko's Lupus.
>Ironic in that Epstine-Bar Virus is the cause of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as well.
Citation needed. Wikipedia says "Biological, genetic, infectious, and psychological mechanisms have been proposed, but the cause is not understood"
Yes, there will be a chapter in the issue coming out this week. I don't think Ume is doing Comiket this year. The good news is that the Ume-Ten will be running again next March in Osaka.
She says that she and Miyu have been mistaken for sisters at both the hospital and a candy store.
Ume is a tiny little jap so probably the latter.
New chapter out, featuring a special guest.
Someone mentioned something on twitter about how it's customary in Japan not to send the relative of someone who has passed away within the last year a card, or wish them a happy New Year because it is assumed that the relative is in a period of mourning.
Make of that what you will.
More delicious Kuro River please. This looks amazing.
The cat's been out of the bag for a while now. More specifically, in between Natsume's legs.
You wouldn't want to tease Nazuna?
She makes has the best expressions.
Hiro should be a little fat.
There both a little much...
It's the only series I can remember that made me truly sad it came to an end, at least for the anime.
I really need to buy up the manga. I swore off trying to collect any sort of manga years ago due to space but Hidamari may just be the exception. I'll definitely get the anime one day though.
Even without addressing the rainbow symbolism, it's so damn cute seeing it represent Miya's happiness in this moment.
