Pertwee could be honored that people want more of his character 46 years later.

This reminds me, I read a handbook about Colin's era written in the early 90's today, and he sounded miserable, sad that he never got a great story, that he did so little and the his character was wasted. At one point he says somehting like "if someone had taken the part in 1984 and I got to it after him, I would still be playing the part today".
I'm rambling a bit but my point is that he would have loved to see what BF would do to his character at this point in this life, it definitively made him happier.

BIG BROADCHURCH S3E7 SPOILERS

Finished 3x7. Characterwork is amazing, I especially like picrelated. I think writing for her the great and the actress is just superb. Beth (aka our new Doctor) gives a very strong speech in this episode. She's cool. The lights speech at the end with the women in the streets is just beautiful. Really beautiful. It has soul in it. I'm looking forward to moments like that in the future of Doctor Who. Inspiring and moving. The only bad thing about series so far is that I'm not really intrigued who's the rapist. We have tons of suspects and we still can't figure it out even remotely close, I hope for a genius revelation tomorrow, but I doubt that he'll pull it off. Let's see. AND I REALLY WANT PIC RELATED AS A COMPANION. WOULD BE REFRESHING AND JUST GREAT.
>>
>>86641615
>what cliches are you spotting
In episode 1, the Doctor falls into a hole in the ground, and the first thing I thought was "I bet he's going to run into some kind of survivor/slave of the Daleks and he'll help him defeat the Daleks". And sure enough...
No particles this time though.

>>86641679
>Doctor arrives on a Dalek-conquered world (you can substitute another monster for the Daleks, in "The Isos Network" it was the Cybermen)
>Doctor has to penetrate into the Dalek base
>there are rebels fighting the Daleks
>there's someone involved who thinks he can work together with the Daleks, the Doctor warns them that they can't and sure enough they doesn't listen and get exterminated
>there's a bunch of soldier who are there to defeat the Daleks
>there's someone who has to work for the Daleks against their own will in order to help the slaves
>there's a lone survivor/rebel slave who helps the Doctor
>there's a big transmitter or otherwise important Big Thing that has to be destroyed
>magical particles are involved somehow

i feel like your feelings about the rapist mystery may be what chibnall wanted t b h, i think youre meant to just feel kind of overwhelmed and shitty and tired of it, the rape mystery isnt some glamorous case, but something all too pedestrian and base.

its intersting think how pretty much all those cliches are present in the actuall good stories hes done (dark eyes 1, robophobia, lucie miller~to the death) just as much as his terrible ones. they can work if theyre in service to an actual story. but he just goes through the motions too much. and shoves them in stories they dont belong. it makes no sense for time war stories to be the same dalek stories we've heard a million times.

that said, i do find it endearing how much he genuinely enjoys it all. 'who doesnt love the drashigs' indeed. hes living the dream.

You could just sub the SPECIAL attributes into GURPS if you were attached to Strength/Perception/Endurance/Charisma/Intelligence/Agility/Luck (which is an intuitive list, so I get the appeal).
Could work for Doctor Who I suppose but at that point you may as well think up your own attribute acronym.

I currently know of three (possibly four?) separate instances where he has hugged a Dalek, and in one of those instances, he also kissed it - pic, quite obviously, related.

We worked out in a previous thread that if someone on /who/ finds a missing special, we can hold it ransom 'til the BBC gives us a Dalek each. From that point on, all we'd have to do is contact Paul and the rest is history.

Seriously, whey don't the BBC make a spin-off featuring characters like Ace, Martha, Mickey, Jack, Gwen, Wilf and the Paternoster Gang teaming up to defend the Earth? All the actors would be up for it. Also it would be guaranteed to get good ratings and needn't be hugely expensive.

Sherlock Series 1 and 2 were pretty good. 3 was an abomination and I haven't watched afterwards. Is it done for good? Or are they doing one of those indefinite hiatus things again
>>
>>86651707
Latter. They want to do another one, but Cumberbatch and Freeman are famous now, so it's hard to pull off.
>>
>>86651762
they're both busy with the MCU right now (they're both doing Infinity War IIRC) so I'm guessing it'll be a while
>>
>>86651707
Indefinite hiatus. Where the last episode ended is good enough for the series to be finished forever, but they could also always come back to it later on. And if you thought S3 was bad, S4 was worse. I enjoyed S3 to an extent, but S4 was... a mess, truly and honestly, although I did enjoy the second episode as a total standalone. The first wasn't good, and the third was one of the shittiest episodes of television I have ever seen in my nelly puff.

I'd finish this off with a cursory "that's just my opinion!" - but S4 wasn't well-received by anyone except the wilfully ignorant who think Moffat and Gatiss can do no wrong. I generally like Moffat's writing, but S4 was just... too much.
>>
>>86651918

>>
>>86651980
The only part of the second episode I disliked was the ending, with the Eurus reveal. What a fucking mess that was. The rest of it was good, though.
>>
>>86651837
really? Doesn't Freeman just play a government guy with like 5 minutes of screen time in Civil War? The fuck is he going to do in Infinity War? And why did they hire Cumberbatch for Dr. Strange only to make him put on that really shitty fake American accent? His normal voice is cool as fuck and would fit the character perfectly (I guess they'd have to make him English but that wouldn't really change anything). I haven't seen the whole movie yet (I already watched Batman Begins plus superhero fatigue hit me hard after I walked out of Ant-Man having spent the entire movie correctly predicting what would happen next because it was that by-the-numbers), but did they just cast Cumberbatch because of his built-in tumblr audience?

S3 just felt weird, like they ended S2 with a massive cliffhanger and took like 3 years off while Moff was constantly teasing its reveal, only for them never to explain how he survived. And after Episode 1 it was never addressed at all.

>>86652286
Yeah, it was a total cop-out, and I can't remember exactly what Moffat and Gatiss said to justify their non-explanation, but I remember it being sufficiently bullshit. On one hand, I don't care that much, because for me it was never about how he survived, just what the reactions were when it was revealed to others that he did... but on the other, I realise it was lazy writing to not even bother with an attempt at an explanation. Especially when I know a lot of fans agonised over it between series, trying to work out how it happened, and they never got the pay-off of finding out if they were right or not.

I know there were the sort of, like, joke explanations, and the one Sherlock told to Anderson and all, but after it, he essentially was like "ok thats how i did it........ OR WAS IT" so there was no real closure.

Alright /who/, this is Briggs. Nick Briggs. I know Doom Coalition and Dark Eyes weren't as good as series 4 of the EDAs or Gary Russel's Big Finish seasons when 8 was actually in a universe that said, fuck you. YOU try following up on To The Death in a satisfying way. You can't, can you? Because you don't have access to Paul McGann or the BBC license. Fuck you.

but how do we make 8 amazing again? We both know time war box wont be what everyone wants, though it will have moments so fuck you.

Meh. You may not like that they just had a god going through time and space to save Bill, but at least they explained what it was, its limitation being it's obsession with bill, how it knew what was going on, its lack of malice and its ability to make things whatever it wants by absorbing them into a puddle and then shaping it into whatever. How anyone kept a personality or consciousness inside it isnt clear since the ships desires are the one in control in the initial episode, but thats a hell of a lot more explanation than we usually get for our reset button in this show.

David Tennant here. I finished my recording of new Big Finish stuff, and I gotta say that in hindsight all of the RTD seasons were a mistake. I love the show, but I think I would have had better stuff under Moffat. Leaving without series 5 and seeing how good it was in hindsight was a mistake. Having an episode like Fear Her in my first season was a mistake. Please buy my audios and remember me for them instead. RTD was a mistake.

I've thought about that before, and while it would be comfy, I feel like the actors have aged and it would feel kinda like a step back if they did like more than a one-off of that.

That said, I'd be down for a new 8/Charley series set post-Doom Coalition, that could be really, really, really interesting. They've both changed a lot.

So Briggs will be voicing the Doctors and probably the main companions like he did with Rose, but I wonder who they'll bring in for this, since Nine's had Jackie and Adam Mitchell.

I'm guessing that Martha is being saved for a third Tennant set. Karen and Arthur are probably out of the question right now, and they should be saved for when Big Finish eventually gets round to getting Matt back.

Candidates I can think of on the top of my head would be Alex Kingston since they've already got her, Noel Clarke (surprised they have yet to bring back Mickey since Noel has done BF in the past), and Bernard Cribbins because we need some more Wilfkino.
>>
>>86674750
>I'm guessing that Martha is being saved for a third Tennant set
Nah, they'll do another one with Billie or Catherine before that, Freema isn't gonna be in Briggs Finish for at the very least quite a while, it was mentioned on the latest BF podcast.

>Karen and Arthur are probably out of the question right now, and they should be saved for when Big Finish eventually gets round to getting Matt back.
I think we'll get Matt before them two. Matt's game, they just haven't asked him (or if they have, it was recently). See https://youtu.be/52aSutmfTBg

I agree Noel Clarke seems like a logical choice. God I wonder how bad Briggs' attempts at 10 and 11's voices will be.
>>
>>86674750
I still don't get why they don't make these things like Companion Chronicles.

For the Ninth Doctor, have Billie Piper and John Barrowman narrate some stories.
Tenth Doctor, Billie Piper and Catherine Tate.
Eleventh Doctor, Alex Kingston and Dan Starkey.

Really? iirc there wasn't anything that explicitly said that Ten was the first to meet them. The closest thing I can recall is at the start of Impossible Planet when he and Rose think they're threatening them only to find that they're offering food, but like I said, nothing explicit.

And really, if they can have Six meet the MacQueen Master, as well as River Song twice, they can work around anything.

Eric Roberts and Big Finish seem like a match made in heaven, they love to pump out dreck, he loves to pump out dreck, they really should get together. I want endless boxsets of his Master.

BF have so much potential to do more crazy Master stuff. The Two Masters should just be the beginning. Beevers. Roberts. Jacobi. Simm. Gomez. Tipple. Pryce. It writes itself!

Vespiforms would have potential in the Early Adventures, connect them to the Giant Wasps used by the Quarks in TV Comics. I still remember when Captain Jack's Monster Files nodded to that.

Speaking of Early Adventures, they've still have 1/Susan at Akhaten as an option.

They have the rights for Torchwood at least. So that would add:
>weevils

>Arcateenians
>Abaddon
>Blowfish
>the things from Sleeper
>whatever Adam was
>that monster that makes you pregnant
>the 456

Some of those would make for... interesting stories.

Big Finished severed any chances of a Roberts Master in Mastermind.
After falling into the Eye of Harmony he contacts the Doctors companion and eventually gets him to open the Eye again. He escapes in snake form and possesses an Asian guy so Yee Jee Tso can tell the next part of the story. The story progresses so that he keeps on possessing bodies until eventually decaying back into Beevers.
Although I suppose you could maybe work a story about him still trapped in the Eye..maybe

Here's a more or less complete list from the spin-offs. The Arcateenians appeared in both Torchwood and SJA as well as being mentioned in Before the Flood where they liberated the Tivolians from the Fisher King before enslaving them as well.

Torchwood
>Weevils
>Sex Gas
>Fairies
>Dogon
>Abbadon, son of the Beast
>Bilis Manger the Not-Time Lord
>Blowfish punks
>John Hart
>Cell 114 aka T-1000 rip offs
>Meat whale
>Adam the memory guy
>Mayflies
>Nostrovites
>Tumor alien
>456
>Brainspawn
>The Three (now Four) Families: Baker, Troughton, Moffat (and Whittaker)

SJA
>Bane?
>Gorgons
>Uvodni
>The Trickster aka Kinoster and his Brigade (10 is very much familiar with him)
>Bradley Walsh Pied Piper (funnily enough One met him in the TV Comics)
>Androvax the Veil
>The red time-sensitive girl whose planet was destroyed in the Time War (potential for Eight)
>Mona Lisa aka Not-Idris
>Erasmus Darkening aka Not-Rassilon the Redeemer
>Julian Bleach's Nightmare Man
>Shansheeth, 11 met them but was already familiar iirc
>Royal Robots
>Metalkind
>Skullions aka the slave aliens played by Dan Starkey

Here's K9 and Class if you give a shit.

Class
>Whatever Quill and the Bald Twink are
>Shadowkin (12 was familiar with them)
>Leaf Dragon
>Lan Kin, the "take the form of the dearly departed" alien (honestly that could make for a good story)
>Maneating petals

K9 (admittedly probably not an option unless Bob Baker drops Timequake and collabs with Briggs)
>The Department aka Torchwood with Robocops
>Jixen
>Merons
>Korven
>Ahab the Bounty Hunter
>Fear itself
>Sporax
>Bodach, the dream inducing alien
>Oroborous the time eating snake. Fed on potential energy like a less interesting Weeping Angel.
>Anubians aka the not-Sutekhs who attacked Sea Devils, Mandrels and Alpha Centauri
>Medes
>Aeolians (could be interesting, they were endangered aliens who communicated with song but nearly destroyed London by accident in the process)
>Centuripede
>Ukkan librarians
>Etydion
>Time Blank
>>
>>86676454

I would be okay with this. For the last 5 or 6 years I've considered his work largely forgettable and mediocre at best, but he managed to write a couple of really great tracks for capaldi

>>86677990

>>
>>86677991
If I had to take a wild guess, when Nick Frost's name was entered into whatever system they use to generate the titles whoever did it probably accidentally put a space on the very end, pushing everything a little bit to the left

He's very adaptable though, he did very different music for S5 than he did for S4, and his Capaldi music is very different again. I'm all for change in Doctor Who but there should be some continuity so the whole thing doesn't go rudderless. I just am such a big fan of Marigold I'll be very disappointed if he's gone. I love seeing him develop on his earlier Doctor Who work too, and if a new composer isn't as into motifs, I'll be massively disappointed. Musical motifs are one of the greatest things of NewWho to me, the show can bind all its years together in such a new and exciting way now it rests on that much more than Classic Who or Big Finish ever did/do.
>>
>>86678243
Oh of course, capaldi's theme is great, it completely slipped my mind because I was trying to think of one-off iconic songs
>>
I want two composers. Save Gold for special episodes/moments and main themes so his creative capacity isn't stretched. The points where he's weakest is the standard filler episodes, which are so varied in tone that having a homogenous soundtrack doesn't even make sense
>>
>>86678561
Gold works with Ben Foster a lot of the time anyway, on Torchwood and the Proms and whatnot, so that could feasibly happen. I don't really see anyone prompting it though.
>>
>>86678561
I do kind of like the idea of maybe bringing on young composers to try their hands at the standard eps, then having Gold kind of polish up their ideas, add his themes where appropriate, etc, that would be interesting. Kind of like how Hans Zimmer does his music (a bunch of juniors actually write most of it off a few ideas he describes, then he polishes their work up and ties it all together).

This guy on plebbit

https://www.reddit.com/r/gallifrey/comments/23pxb5/first_doctor_novels_short_stories_audio_and/

Has been working through every bit of Doctor Who media. That post, of getting through all 1's stuff, was from 3 years ago. He's just now gotten through all of 6's.

Has anyone else here ever considered doing it? Now and again I contemplate doing all the audios, but ALL the media seems like such a mammoth task. What a thing to get done though. What does /who/ think?

>>
>>86678920
I've considered it, but I'm not sure I'm fond of the idea of infosorbing them "out" of order. One of the 1st Doctor books could ruin the ending to a 7th doctor book or something.
I'm a slow reader so it would take me much longer to finish. I've got an impressive collection of books and CDs and I think I'll listen to all of Big Finish in release order.
The books, I'll read what I own in release order and fill in the gaps when I acquire any missing ones. Migtht skip reading the EDAs until I have them all as I think they have some/more continuity than the PDAs
