Star Trek novels get retarded.

So the Nx-02 Columbia lands some people on planet filled with aliens with Dr. Manhattan powers. They won't let the humans leave. so the humans rebel and blow up a machine. Which weakens a network and then some weird energy pulse hits. all the alien cities are sent back in time to various times and places. one of the alien cities goes back hundreds of years and then has to send the weird energy pulse to make sure the timeline was preserved. another one went back thousands of years. the only surviving alien absorbed the 2 surviving humans and made the first 2 borg. back in the future. the borg have invaded the beta quadrant with thousands of cubes and are stomping everything. Captain Ezri Dax plants a fake borg queen to try and stop the borg. this doesn't work, but they come across Dr. Manhattan aliens. the aliens realize they are responsible for creating the borg. So they wave their hands and destroy the borg collective. all the trillions of drones are given free will. they ask the drones if they want to help dr. manhattan aliens evolve into higher beings. most drones agree. the rest are turned back into what ever species they were originally and all borg planets all over the galaxy are converted back to pre borg status.

Star Trek as a whole died on June 2, 1999, when DS9 ended, because even Voyager was pretty strong in its 4th and 5th seasons (which ran concurrently with DS9's 6th and 7th). After that, the writers stopped giving a shit.

as a failure on all fronts, that both tries to be a JJ Trek tv show, while halfassedly chucking it in the original Star Trek continuity as yet another prequel, set even before Enterprise, which was already a dubious and somewhat limiting setting.

Also, as attempting to cash in on popular trends by being a social justice show, that has such little identity of it's own that it has to sell itself solely on it's diversity, when that's a given in Star Trek anyway, AND, is again, limited by it's prequel setting, where the only species are gonna be Vulcan and Human

ToS is the most marketable to normalfags that's why.

I suppose powercreep from Voyager might be a problem too. They ended that series with armor and weapons systems from the future capable of pwning the Borg.
>>
>>86646194
I mean, I get them not wanting to deal with all the in-universe shit they'd have to address if they made it after Voyager/Nemesis. But still, it'd be the easiest thing in the world to tap into that nostalgia and have Riker or Picard or Worf do a cameo in a post-Nemesis show. They also wouldn't have to listen to too much bitching involving how the ship or the uniforms look like.

Smart phones may have invented then but they were still "nerd toys" until near the end of the 00s when getting internet connectivity on them was affordable for the average person and they actually had something normies would want from them instead of just games. also Social media wasn't really that big.

also I agree, 9/11 effect and all that, but there's no denying that despite 9/11, the rapid introduction and popularization of social media and smartphones simultaneously is what has really turned this past decade into a complete shitshow, the likes of which even the entirety of the 00's can't compare to.

The original was probably the best overall. HIghest episode quality. It was the only show without a tremendous amount of horrendous dud episodes.

TNG was really bad at that, Voyager was horrendous, DS9 was less bad, but the space station orbited Bajor so what could they really do to avoid them?

DS9 had the best characters.

Voyager and TNG had some of the best individual episodes.

What is the tradition of the "Shirt Tug" based on? Although seemingly more prominent in TNG, I've seen it in the TOS movies. Is it commonplace in every series? Is there an attitude of sorts that us associated with it? Perhaps a sign of annoyance, impatience, anger, flexing or regality and rank?
>>
>>86654409

It is very obvious that TOS had a core group of seven with "supporting cast". The other shows more-or-less follow this archetype and never significantly deviate from it; this is precisely what the chart makes clear, as a through-line of what to expect from watching a Star Trek TV show.

The Yeoman, Chapel etc are supporting cast memes for moderate fans to also know. The core is seven-ish. One of the characters is named seven FFS.

Ellison explains the importance of seven:

The (correct) conventional wisdom is that Even Number Good, Odd Number Bad.

The three best Trek films are Khan, Voyage Home and First Contact. An important commonality among these three is a persistent reference to whales, whaling and Moby Dick. The nautical and revenge themes carrying over to spaceships which operate like classical ships with a command structure, literal whales in one case,

A recent contrarian meme among /tv/ youth is that TMP is a good movie. This is false, because despite one cute tweest, the outfits are shit and the acting is dead and wooden next to the later rediscovery of camp and a place for humor alongside serious themes, which is why Khan is so rightfully beloved by all - Khan saved the whole entire media property.

This. If people are eating up superhero TV shows, why wouldn't they eat up what looks like DLC for Destiny 2? It's the same reason why they're setting it before TOS; not enough people care about the 24th century story for them to bother with continuing it. They're trying to appeal to an entirely different audience; picking up a story that consists of 3 shows (7 seasons each) and a bunch of movies from 15-30 years ago would just confuse people.

Do you guys ever hop around between series randomly? Or do you like to stay in one series longer than the others? Or do you go fully sequential?
>>

I choose Sisko, T'Pol, Miles, The Doctor, Phlox and Bashir, Malcolm Reed, Sulu (original) and Hoshi Sato

GOAT crew
