daily reminder that I don't disagree with that. lynch is pretty even handed with his depictions of gender. If men aren't well-groomed, self-policing and empathetic, they're generally manchildren or literal monsters. The women tend to fall in to either mother, child or seductress archetypes.

I definitely think it's overrated. It would help a lot if some of the Missing Pieces scenes were put back in though as it would smooth the pacing a bit and make it more intelligible, mostly towards the beginning of Laura's part where the way it's edited makes it kind of hard to follow.

Parts of FWWM are worse than Inland Empire. Maybe intelligible isn't the right word but it jumps around a lot when it first gets to Laura's part in the movie. The scenes with Bobby and Mike, and with James are too short and if they're going to be that short they might as well not even be in the movie. The Missing Pieces versions of these scenes as well as Bowie's scene is much better than the theatrical version.

I found it slightly annoying at first. I thought the NIN performance felt like a waste of time. The first 7 episodes had set up all these parallel storylines that didn't seem like they were ever going to go anywhere, and suddenly we're going back in time to the 40s and 50s. But now that we're passed the halfway point and everything is coming together, I have a higher opinion of episode 8, and I think it will be 10 times better when we have the whole season to digest.

Her hair wasn't really consistent in the series. She had to wear a wig for the finale, which looked different from her normal hair. Also, her hair was different in FWWM

Also, there are quite a bit of other inconsistencies. Dale's necktie in FWWM and The Returns isn't the same as it was in the finale. The curtains themselves seem to switch between heavier and thicker cloth, to more lightweight and thinner (

Just finished FWWM for the first time, and I don't see why people dislike it. I thought it was fantastic, and the lighting was really good in it. Why all the hate? Is it because it's not more "coffee and pie" like the first two seasons?

I thought the season would go uphill from Part 8 and it would end up being one of the best seasons in TV history, but the last 3 episodes have been kind of slow (but still good). Not much has happened. The story could've advanced much more than it has in these 11 hours. I still have high hopes that the remaining 7 hours will be great enough to leave this season canonized..

I have liked every episode so far btw.

This dude has been around for years, always uses the same style of font, and posts barely comprehensible shit onto screens of whatever he's currently obsessed with.

The interesting bit, after having seen this happen for 3 shows I was into that were currently airing, is he's never there from the start, always winds up becoming insanely obsessed late into the life of a show, but from then on spams threads with that barely comprehensible shit until the threads stop existing.
>>
>>85467205
>Why all the hate?

Mostly because of the narrative whiplash and the weird script. Toward the end it just gets so ridiculously melodramatic (tons of yelling, staring dramatically, Sheryl Lee having to scream and be tossed around really weirdly) it's kind of hard to appreciate. Chet and early Laura scenes are kino, tho

>Lynch and Bowie couldn't act for shit
A lot of acting in Lynch's film is meant to be more expressionistic than realistic. People overact and generally have reactions out of proportions to whatever they're reacting to. It's a device used to create a feel. It's fine to think it doesn't work for you, but complaining that it isn't realistic isn't a valid complaint. It's not meant to be.

To be fair, the Jeffries scene is done pretty poorly. At least, in a manner that seems amateurish and not technically sound. Bowie seems really wooden, that weird blue fade-in is awfully clumsy looking, and you can't hear what he's saying over the score designed to make the moment intense. Coop's checking the video feed is an all-time great Twin Peaks moment, but all in all that scene is one of a number of really corny, kind of dumb looking scenes that would seem to indicate a lack of finesse.

Well I didn't think it was expressionistic. I think it was just awkward. AFAIK the scene was only tacked on as an excuse to put Cooper in the movie. Kyle wasn't supposed to be involved in the movie at all, but he found some free time during the filming and Lynch made up some scenes for him and that was one of them. So it's hilarious that people who like that scene are the ones who accuse people who dislike the film of being butthurt Cooperfags.

I agree with some of the other anons that when I finally watched FWWM for the first time recently, the Bowie scene stood out as kinda pointless and amateur (even with his other scene put back in). I feel like Lynch tried too hard to over-edit the movie, like when he overlaid the Bowie scene with the convenience store scene, ruining both of them.

The opening half hour with CD and SS, as well as much of the Laura story are all done expertly particularly before she finds out who BOB is. However, towards the end of Laura's movie, things feel too disjointed, like there are too many jumps or missing scenes (not even in the missing pieces, ha) that makes the pacing and flow feel lopsided or weird - if you didn't have the foreknowledge of the previous 30 episodes of Twin Peaks to help you fill some of the gaps, I don't know how you could really appreciate the movie more than just a surface level.

Now, I should say that overall I really enjoyed FWWM+Missing Pieces as a good coda to the original storylines/series, but I was surprised to notice these glaring problems or annoyances when I was expecting some type of beyond-good masterpiece as is usually touted here. I mean I guess you can chalk that up to different opinions, but my issues with FWWM lay mainly with the editing and narrative progression.
>>
>>85467790
You're either trolling or are very young. Either way, you seem to be taking this too seriously. FWWM draws outside the lines on a few occasions, but that's part of the charm. It's fine to stay in the "I liked it/I didn't like it" mindset, but you need to also be able to see things more objectively. If you don't like something that a lot of other people seem to enjoy, try to understand what they might like in it, whether you agree with it or not. Most people are not dumb.

>>85467858
Expressionistic might not be the best term, but couldn't find a better one. The whole "grossly overacting while other characters keep a straight face as if it's completely normal" is a common thing in Lynch's films though. As for that scene, going by the amount of Jeffriesposting here and elsewhere, I'd say it worked well. It opened a window to tell viewers "this whole thing is bigger than you think" than moved on to the next thing. It's an interesting scene no matter the reason it ended up in the movie.

I'm far behind everyone else in the thread as I've only seen up to part 7. I'm just chiming in to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed every episode except for 1 and 5.

1 is such a bizarre (and not that enjoyable) way to kick things off. Aside from the funny scene with the Horne brothers, most of it is just looking at that glass box. I wish they had mixed more of episode 2 into 1, or edit things a bit more tightly.

After a great episode like 4, which feels like a lot is going on, 5 has a few good scenes sandwiched between a lot of empty filler, like the Dr. Amp bit. It wasn't that funny, because Tamblyn, bless his 80+ year old butt, didn't really give the bit the histrionics it needed to be funny. I'd say it's a half-good episode, but it didn't grab me like the others.

>admitting something Lynch did is bad
Lynch's filmmaking sometimes feels naive as hell, and he goes out of his way to say he doesn't watch much other films or shows. There are a lot of things which are shaky from a technical viewpoint. But the overall vision is pretty different from what other directors are trying to do, so it gives something fresh for people who are bored with the rest.

basically, everything about shelly is fine except for the part where she doesn't believe in loyalty. not for a single fucking moment.

>The most memorable scenes to me are Desmond and Stanley in the sheriff's dept. and the local diner.
Or getting the painting from the Chalfonts, or Laura discovering BOB's avatar, or Lil the dancing woman... All more substantive. The dancing woman scene is probably THE scene of FWWM in terms of stand out memorability. Bowie stuff is just memes and people thinking they're le funny for saying "no judee posts here lul"

It's late and I have to assemble a group of TP-loving folks to watch the episodes together with. Luckily, this means we can still watch several a pop if they are good. We all loved ep4 and jumped ahead, for example, but 5 killed the mood that night.

>>85468868
ha ha, this is the one my older bro (who got me on to Twin Peaks) "warned" me about (I use that word loosely and playfully). He's liked every episode except 8. As he's ahead of me, he thinks from that point on every ep has been 10/10.

Reason I like Part 5 so much is that it solidified the Dougie storyline to me as the central and emotional core of the season. Before that, I had no real clue what to make of it, it was comedic but I hadn't figured out what exactly Lynch and Frost were going for. But after Part 5 aired that all clicked with me, and it's when I went from merely being entertained by those scenes, to being really invested in that arc.

From the sounds of it, you're going to love what is coming up ahead, if you enjoyed Part 4. Not gonna spoil anything for you, but it definitely only gets better in my opinion. I agree that Part 1 was a bizarre premiere episode, we'll see how I feel when rewatching it, but so far I don't think it is anywhere near as good as the others.

>>85469011
Was she acting this way since her first appearance, or did it just start in the last few episodes? She's been given a lot of screen time recently, but can't remember if we had seen her during the first casino scenes, etc.

They do what they want.
Maybe they're just separated.
She was still Shelly Johnson in the last episode.
>>
>>85469149
It's been too long, she doesn't want to go back to Johnson and forgot she was originally a Simpson. That's why she plans to hook up with Red, the lone Twin Peak guy without a family name. Once they marry she'll be able to go by simply "Shelly", and will be free to do whatever after. Girl's thinking two moves ahead.

I will say that it was after part 5 that I started thinking to myself that the series' central conflict was a dualistic battle between mind (or soul) and body. The doppelganger has Cooper's body, but none of his goodness or his ideals, so he is ultimately doomed to fail. Dougie has no control over his body, but his soul is still capable to doing good in that state, which means that even with that handicap he is bound to prevail over the doppelganger, who will only dig himself deeper and deeper as he tries to cling on to his body. His menace is belied by the fact that he is ultimately a failure with nobody (or no body) to rely on.

I think this pretty well echoes Lynch's own ideas about transcendent meditation and his belief in expanding the mind being key to life (not that I totally buy all of it).

I just bought this book actually (and Mark Frost's book so I can get totally FROSTED). Am I in for a good time? Flipping through a few pages, I see how difficult it is to try and portray BOB in text... and in Diary format.

Reading the first few bits of Frost's TP book is enjoyable, but it feels like it is gunna take a damn long time to get to Twin Peaks. The writing for 19th century people is a little too modern for my tastes, but it's been alright as a way to flesh out the mythology.

Part 17 Judy
Part 18 Candie

Anyone care to take a shot explaining this scene?
>>
>>85469538
There's nothing to explain. Cooper just had a dream where he saw himself in the security monitors so he was trying to replicate it.
>>
>>85469538
Jeffries is being affected by Lodge powers which mess with electricity. So when he appears, Cooper's image stays on the camera and the light flicker and such. He's stuck in a time loop or something. He disappears from the hotel in Buenos Aires and appears in the FBI building in Philadelphia 2 years later, then disappears again back to Buenos Aires.

Cooper literally says that in the scene nigga.
>>
>>85469682
Holy shit
>>
>>85469538
Cooper was worried (by his dream) that Jeffries would come into the FBI and phase out, leaving people to wonder whether or not the event ever occurred (cue Albert "He was never even here!").

Cooper thus thought to use himself as a way of judging reality from hallucination, by "catching" Jeffries on film with Cooper standing there - though when Cooper goes back to look at the footage, it shows Jeffries somehow impossibly being "forward" in time, along with Cooper, hinting at the metaphysical boundaries he has crossed. This clues Cooper to the notion that his dream is coming true, and that something is seriously wrong with Jeffries, who soon quickly vaporizes (presumably going back to Argentina), leaving everyone to wonder what the hell just happened.

...unfortunately there is like no payoff for this set of events in the movie, and it's arguable that there will be payoff for it in the Return (as in, an actual explanation of what happened Jeffries). Realistically speaking, it was likely to be a "hook" for the stories that were going to be developed in the other movies in Lynch's planned trilogy of Twin Peaks films, much like the scene with Annie, as well as Cooper's scenes in the Black Lodge.

The story I heard is that it was the only way they could rationalize having that kind of high school and a lot of other things in the town.
