The deadline is flexible, and will probably get extended. And yeah, a series of scenes is a great idea.

Oh bugger, there's a deadline? I'll see what I can do.

Is a series of scenes also acceptable? That way I can tell the story of an episode in four or five short scenes, skipping unnecessary exposition and focusing on plot.

>Speaking at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, Peter Davison said: “I’ve been a little distressed by both sides of the argument. The people who think it’s a great idea need to be understanding. Any change in the Doctor has a big impact. When I took over, it was a problem because I was too young. When Peter Capaldi took over it was a problem because he was too old.
>“Jodie Whittaker is a fine actress. I think she’ll do fine.” But he has some reservations: “If I feel any doubts, it’s the loss of a role model for boys who I think Doctor Who is vitally important for. So I feel a bit sad about that, but I understand the argument that you need to open it up. As a viewer, I kind of like the idea of the Doctor as a boy but then maybe I’m an old fashioned dinosaur, who knows?”
>Colin Baker strongly disagreed with Davison’s main comment though: “They’ve had 50 years of having a role model. So sorry Peter, you’re talking rubbish there – absolute rubbish. You don’t have to be of a gender of someone to be a role model. Can’t you be a role model as people?”

>/who/ presents:
DOCTOR WHO: SHIT TRIPS Vol. 2
- The Anthology -

>Are you a true fan of Doctor Who?
>Have you ever written down a sequence of words?

If the answer is yes or no, then you are ready to contribute a literary masterpiece to the second /who/ collection of original Doctor Who-based short fiction.

/who/ did it once. Now, we're gonna do it again! Yet another entry in an age-old tradition of p̶a̶c̶k̶a̶g̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶a̶n̶f̶i̶c̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶g̶e̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶g̶i̶v̶e̶ ̶t̶h̶e̶m̶ ̶a̶n̶ ̶a̶i̶r̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶l̶e̶g̶i̶t̶i̶m̶a̶c̶y̶ / celebrating the magic of Who and the talent of a community.

There are no limits (except the story must be at least 1 word long, and preferably not in excess of 10,000, it's short fiction you fuck).

>- Can involve any Doctor(s), companion(s), side characters, spinoff characters and beyond, as your heart desires
>- Can be in any style, whether it's "legitimate writing", "pisstake", or "shitpost".
>- Can be about absolutely anything
>- The main focus is on good fun in the vein of the wiki, although serious entries are allowed. (If you're going to write smut, maybe approach it with a degree of levity)

Stuck for ideas? Try starting with your favourite TARDIS team (or for timeliness, Whittaker 13th Doctor) and one of these authentic titles:
http://www.saberpunk.net/DoctorWho/DoctorWhoSerialGenerator.php
https://glyphobet.net/drwho

We are going to be starting an index on the wiki for the collection. Anyone can contribute, no signups/pitches required. If you have ideas, feel free to broadcast them.
The rest is self-explanatory. Format for uploading your work is up to you, as long as it can be conveniently copied across (and ideally don't spam long texts in /who/ directly). (Pastebin works well.)

BONUS: Anyone who wants to do cover art or "illustrations" is encouraged.

WE need more entries for classic as well as NuWho Doctors. Entries for Thirteen are accepted as well. Aug 3rd is deadline.

I was just watching an old episode of Big Fat Quiz of the Year when suddenly David Tennant appeared as a guest to ask the panel a question.
It starts at exactly 48 minutes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=axnWRtigsE8&t=48m0s

I'd never seen this before, don't know how rare it is or how many people will have seen this, but I found it really interesting to see Tennant there, back in 2005, talking about the role.
This aired the day after The Christmas Invasion aired. And Tennant was in the middle of filming series 2 at that time.

It's been done before, resulting in the Abzorbaloff episode I think we unanimously agree on was shit.
We also sort of see it in Osgood's character, who's a massive Doctor nerd and dresses like previous incarnations and stuff.

But if we take the concept away from Earth I think it could work. Some alien race obsessed with the Doctor, this mysterious hero who travels through space and time giving people aid etc. I could see a story where some alien race has basically over time come to worship the Doctor as a God and they want him to visit their planet so they can enslave him and keep him as some sort of idol to be worshiped.

Or maybe go slightly more crazy with the obsession, have this alien race go out and destroy civilisations with the sole intent of attracting the Doctor's attention. They defend themselves morally as they burn down cities and shout at the sky that the almighty Doctor will come and fix everything. Could be used as a moment of realisation for the Doctor, as he sees that all his travels and all his help over the years have birthed this crazed alien cult that destroys millions of lives just to see him appear. Raise the moral question again, "is what I'm doing a good thing?"

Sorry, sort of got carried away with myself whilst typing all that. Anyway, yeah, a cult obsessed with the Doctor could be interesting, but let it be aliens, not Earth humans.
>>
So we can all agree:

Before the FemDoc announcement I was strongly against a FemDoc. Then something about Jodie's smile in the trailer made me see "The Doctor" in there. Now all this fanart. I'm honestly confused /who/ Why am I warming up to this? It feels scary, because there's still always the chance it will blow up in our faces. And I'm not one to change my mind easily. It feels strange.

I really REALLY hope they will let Jodie be her own Doctor without constantly going on about women being strong too and shit. Just be the Doctor.

Also, all this fanart makes me envision 13 as a stern but loving motherly type Doctor. I know it's a stretch to judge her character on fanart of all things, but I wouldn't be opposed to that.
>>
>>85266936
Let power of 13th Doctor fanart embrace you in a warm, loving hug, anon.
>>
>>85266936
I've warmed to the idea considerably since the reveal and now I'm just excited. There's always the chance they'll do the worst possible thing and make her the voice of feminism and empowerment instead of giving her her own character, but I'm optimistic. All we have to go on at this moment is Jodie's acting and Chibnall's writing. I have hope that they'll make something great out of 13.

Another thing though, all this 13 business and me warming to the idea has recently made me realize that Capaldi's actually leaving. He's got one episode left and then he's gone, his era ended. I actually got a bit sad the other day when it dawned on me that this is actually the end for Capaldi.

i have no love for 3rd wave feminism

but

it could be kinda fun if the doctor was dealing with sexism in her new iteration, as long as they don't treat it as ham-fistedly as all the 'gays in the future' PSAs they shoehorned in during the Moffart years

also; would be really fantastic to see her in extremely frightening scenarios such as the tower in Heaven Sent - probably one of the best episodes of the show evah, and i'm curious as to how a womyn doc would handle it

less punching impenetrable walls mb?

actually now i think about it, female characters haven't been that well written ever in Dr Who, so this could really suck

The dialogue is so good though. I despised The Power of Three's plot but the dialogue and the interactions and Brian were brilliant. The premise of millions of mysterious cubes suddenly appearing and nobody knows what they are or what they do was interesting. But the ending was terrible with that Shakra(?) thing.

I hope Chibnall gets better at stories. He's great at characters and dialogue, but his plots often aren't that great.
>>
>>85267709
nah it got really stilted and cumbersome when Moffats took over, with absolutely unnecessary space marines introducing their wives who were men, or the lizard lady and her maid always going on about being married

RTD usually presented a reason why their sexual preference was being brought up, Captain Jack being some future bi-sexual dood with very liberal views on everything, including his smooch partners

i can't remember anything else homosex from the Eccleston/Tennet years, but the unwieldy stuff from Moffat was so clunky it jarred me out of the show and just screamed IT'S OK TO BE GHEY like some kid trying to be kewl and PC in front of the feminazi chicks

Same thing happened to me and amtt Smith. I was excited for Capaldi and the 50th and then it dawned on me that the crazy elastic goofy version of the Doctor would dissapear. I miss Matt honestly. He was fun. But hey, that's Doctor who for ya.

It can be a hard time letting go of a Doctor and getting ready for a new one.
I was only 13 years old in 2005 when Ecclestone regenerated so it didn't really hit me that much. When Tennant regenerated I did feel a moment of sadness because he'd been "my Doctor" for my teenage years, though I think it would've hit me harder if it hadn't been so overlong. I remember being anxious of Smith because he looked way too young and hadn't done much acting before, but he won me over in The Eleventh Hour.
I was truly sad when Smith left. I was hyped for Capaldi but it was tough seeing Smith go, really liked his Doctor. When that bowtie dropped to the floor I had a definite moment of mourning.

And now Capaldi's going. Forever. And I've only recently really realised it. It's going to be tough.

Chibbers isn't The Moff. Moffat is really fucking bad at these kind of things. Jack was written as a dude from the year 5000 who would fuck anything with a pulse, hell he hit on robots. He was a bisexual or whatever, but he didn't remind you of it. He just hit on everything. Jack under Moffat would be insufferable.

Also, fics focusing on the companions would be appreciated. And, if you want to write a Who story about any other part of the Whonisverse, that's allowed.
>>
>>85268332
>The Doctor's gender should never matter

i have to disagree, with every Doctor there is a new personality usually reflected by their age and appearance - for example, Clara is chided by the Lizard lady one time for not accepting an older Capaldi, stating that his earlier face was his was way of flirting with the Universe, and now he was being more sincere and looking like he felt on the inside

gender has to play a part in the doctor's transformation, even subconsciously, they are wanting to say something to the cosmos

poop knows what kinda dumb reason a dude wants to be a gril though - that's weird

> emember being anxious of Smith because he looked way too young and hadn't done much acting before, but he won me over in The Eleventh Hour.

Smith was amazing at channeling the "Old man in a young body" thing. And yeah, it will always be tough to let go of a Doctor. Personally I had the same thing with Eccelstone. He introduced me to the concept and went out rather gracefully. It actually hit me harder when I rewatched NuWho with a friend. Nine was so distraught coming fresh of the Time War. He honestly seemed a bit happy to regenerate. Which made it even more sad.

Conveniently, the show’s sixth Doctor, Colin Baker, was present and willing to respond to Davison’s doubts.

“They’ve had 50 years of having a role model. So, sorry Peter, you’re talking rubbish there ― absolute rubbish,” he said. “You don’t have to be of a gender of someone to be a role model. Can’t you be a role model as people?”

BY THAT LOGIC GIRLS HAVE HAD A ROLE MODEL THE LAST FIFTY YEARS AS WELL AND IT SHOULDNT BE SUCH A HUGE DEAL TO CAST A FEMALE DOCTOR

BY THAT LOGIC COLIN, A MALE DOCTOR WOULD HAVE BEEN JUST FINE

>>
>>85268807
>The Doctor doesn't 'choose' this.

yeah he does, there's some subconscious drive to make his appearance regenerate

you see that when Capaldi first looks into a mirror and yells 'why did i choose this face - it's an angry face - with eyebrows - oh and this voice, i'm scottish, you can really do a lot of shouting when you're scottish'

now i'm happy to be corrected, but i'm pretty sure that since this happened during one of the actual episodes that appeared on actual television and actual internet streaming sites on the actual worldwide web, that makes it canon
>>
>>85268863
this is epic
>>
>>85268967
The first episode with Capaldi has Matt Smith saying "please tell me I didn't get old, anything but old," and it's constantly brought up in the classic series that Romana is miles better at regeneration that him, and that the Doctor sucks at it.
A subconscious message is one thing, but he certainly doesn't have tangible control over it, which means it is highly unlikely he will "choose" to be a woman.

dude, you have two separate instances within the same episode alluding to the Doctor having some drive to be what he appears as

i'm happy to say he sucks at it, and i'm happy to say it's subconscious - which i pretty much have done now... twice*

but there is definitely some reason he transmogrifies into whatever he regenerates as, and there's an active desire to do so

I think it's fucking stupid to assume that just because a Jamie Mathieson episode said this once that you think Chibnall is going to come up with a "reason" why the Doctor became a girl. This is a show with 50 years of history, and to think that a showrunner is going to abide by every established rule over those 50 years is a tad retarded.
The chances of Jodie actually having a reason for being a girl and it not just being a "hey look this is what i ended up as, regeneration sure is a lottery" like every other regeneration are very slim.

lol

i was genuinely thinking it may have been influenced by feeling some sense of romantic feeling toward Missy

... possibly not wanting that to happen again

or maybe he thought it was necessary to think like her, and so know his enemy better

or there could be a maternal instinct for the cosmos playing a part, especially having lost a companion so recently and thinking he needs to be better at protecting people

there's loads of possiBILLities
>>
>>85269268
If the chance of becoming a girl are so slim, don't you think that deserves an explanation more than any other regeneration?

I think it's a mix of many reasons. the biggest being that the revived series has been on the air for like 12 years running (few shows go over 7, even other big scifis like Trek), and with the Moff gone, they needed something different. And that spills over into the publicity category, but it's also more than that.

I see it more as something lingering in his mind somewhere, but something he actually chooses to do. With the Doctor it's more that he changes into something he needs to be, rather than something he wants to be. Somewhere in his mind he probably wants to become a kinder person, but seeing as how he sucks at regenerating it turns him into a woman.

>>85270336
forgive me, but when i speak of subconscious drives i speak to the idea of primal needs-driven determination, not an active or conscious decision making process where one matches the carpet and cushions, getting every detail just so

so i tend to agree with you, there's a 'need' the doctor feels when he changes

of course, this whole scenario could have been the writers trying to get round the fact that Capaldi was a father in doomed Pompey back when Tennent paid a visit - making vague allusions to him 'choosing such a face' and not knowing why, while across town Lizard Lady explains to Clara that it has something to do with how he feels deep down

of course, if Capaldi was the Doctor presenting himself as a paternal figure, another subconscious reason for presenting as a womyn might be the need for balance, and a well rounded Doc must bring his maternal nature to bear

and yet, that kinda thinking flies in the face of regressive-left ideology, since they argue fiercely that men and women aren't different and gender is a construct

but then the regressive left is logically incoherent everywhere else, so why would they start making sense on some spooky sci-fi /tv/ show for kids

If it's true that Chibnall's only using new writers that's great, but it'll be a shame to let Mathieson go. I always thought he should be groomed by the next showrunner (Chibnall) in order to eventually become showrunner himself when Chibnall leaves.
Mathieson wrote some great stories but is still to inexperienced to be showrunner, but he has the potential. I always hoped they'd sort of keep him on and groom him to take over one day.

Probably 9. Every story was good except Sleep No More (and at least that was ok). Had Face the Raven/Heaven Sent/Hell Bent, an absolute GOAT string of finale episodes.

I think for me it's something like:
Series 9 > Series 8 > Series 10 > Series 5 > Series 1 > Series 3 > Series 4 > Series 6 > Series 2 > Series 7 > 2013 Specials > David Tennant Specials.

75% of Moffag's doing is shit on canon and on could-have-been GOATs

>>
>>85274103

>>85274263
it does when you look at it as a whole but if you were watching it on a seasonal basis it had been 2 years since rose left so the impact of that had already been played out.

you mean the crossover that was pretty bad if you didn't watch the spinoffs
and even if you did it was more like "hey look this guy's here too!" and most didn't do much
>>
>>85274451
yes, also Blue tennant, doctor-donna

RTD > Moffs

but that was a lazy clusterfuck

Vengeance on Varos is a solid 6. That's about it.
>>
>>85269023
Should I write a fanfic based on this?
>>
>>85274833
Vengeance on Varos is pretty good. And I guess The Two Doctors because it's got two Doctors, even though it's still not that good.

>>85274855
rude desu
>>
>>85274833
I like Mysterious and Vervoid

Revelation is strangely comfy and grimey

Rose is just Clara lite and couldnt just leave the show without affecting the next two companions completely
>>
>>85274906
it's not rude, you'll just regenerate right? We're all Time Lords here
>>
>>85274998
clara hasnt affected bill yet besides the deleted scene of the doctor playing claras theme
>>
>>85274805

Red for certain periods of her run, though.
>>
>>85274996
if you want to watch one probably watch the mark of the rani
>>
>>85274305
that was fun
their team chemistry is nice, i wish 10 got a good team to jive with instead of bouncing between companions
even 9/rose/jack was better than any 10 combo, which is too bad because i really like tennant
>>
>>85274833
Varos and Revelation are both good. I like The Two Doctors, Mark of the Rani, and Trial of a Timelord (for the most part) too, but YMMV.
>>
>>85275023
Even if I change, it feels like dying ;_;
>>
>>85275028
Clala affected every aspect of the show and the Doctor's life and they became obssessed with each other and overstayed her welcome is what I mean

Cant wait to see who Chibnall's fanfic companion is going to be
>>
>>85275082
>you cant think of regeneration like death - The moff
>>
>>85275074
but 10/Donna is the best group and 10/Martha was a potentially great combo ruined by romance.
