So here's a theory based on some old info I haven't seen anyone on here connect.

Over the years, Lynch and Sheryl have both said stuff about how she was intended to play a third character with red hair at some point. Obviously, this never happened.

There have also been set photo leaks of Kyle MacLachlan and Sheryl Lee outside of the Palmer house.

Assuming those pictures aren't just of some dream sequence, I think it's possible that she could come back as this redhead character, who would be a replica like Dougie Jones. This could possibly be used to get Laura out of the Black Lodge, hence the having her and Cooper at the Palmer house. Obviously Cooper was actually alive when he managed to escape the Lodge, but we don't know what the deal is with having dead people in the Lodge (like Laura, Annie, Earle's wife)

This could also explain the orb, assuming that's not just representing Laura herself, but it could be her soul being used to make a replica or something

Eraserhead, which I was indifferent too, then I watched season 1 and couldn't swallow all the soap opera stuff. Then saw Blue Velvet and Elephant Man and disliked both and swore off Lynch for a long time.

I mean, the editing is pretty bad with some of the cuts they had to make to get it down to 150 mins, but that's mostly with the Jeffries scene. The Desmond and Laura scenes are both fantastic, great acting, music, cinematography. If you're talking about the first 30 minutes, that doesn't bother me at all. I actually love the sort of stream of consciousness storytelling Lynch has in that, MD and The Return, where plotlines start and stop with no context or clear payoff. The Jeffries scene is horribly edited though, worst thing I've seen Lynch do by a mile

The only problems I have with the rest are that the final murder is nowhere near as powerful as the Maddie one or even what's left to our imaginations in show, and 1 hr 45 minutes of Laura self destructing starts to grate after a while, especially when you know exactly how it's going to end in intimate detail.

it's the best sense of character we get in the whole series. cooper, the show's MC, is pretty much a 2dimensional self insert for the viewer, which is why it feels so hokey and wrong when he gets the emotional stuff with heather graham in season 2, he was never really a character so much as a joke to begin with.

fwwm also has great standalone sequences, the Bob reveal, the pink room, the scene where bobby kills the guy, and the scene in the car where Laura and Leland have a conversation entirely in glances about Bob whilst saying nothing of any real meaning. i also love the representation of the FBI in the movie and in his few short scenes I'd even say it almost does Cooper's character justice

I guess it's a matter of what you wanted out of the movie, anon. I like that FWWM connects you with what was going on with Laura at the end of her life, since the show never really does that. We only get everyone's reaction to her death, but FWWM gives you her perspective so you can see what's going on and empathize with her.

Personally, I think it's much better that we got a look back at Laura's life expanding on the lore of the show a bit (besides the Jeffries stuff), as opposed to building off the finale a bit if we were only going to get one movie.
