I've wanted Moffat to leave for a long time, but it feels weird that he's leaving on such a strong note. S10's finale is my favourite finale in all of new who, and S9/S10 are some of my favourite seasons.

There's still a chance I'll hate the Christmas special and so will be very glad he's gone. I'm hoping it'll be more Husbands-tier and less Time of the Doctor.

I like Moffat and think series 8 and 9 are probably the strongest seasons in NuWho, but I'm glad he's leaving. He's been at this for too long, the show thrives on change and I'm really looking forward to it having a new face. I just wish that face wasn't Chris Chibnall. But I'm willing to give him a chance, it'll be refreshing at least to see a new take on Who

y/n?
>>
>>84563110
I think his era will be relatively short actually, I feel like he's gonna be the "in-between" that bridges the Moffat era and whatever big showrunner comes after Chibnall. I think Chibs and the BBC are buying time until they can find a suitable long-standing showrunner. It's clear that they had trouble finding Moff's replacement: Moff himself thought series 9 would be his last and ended up having to do another series since they couldn't find anyone else to take the reigns at the time. Chibnall said they kept asking him and he said no but eventually agreed, my guess is that his showrunning is a temporary deal until they find the next RTD or Moff
>>
>>84562932

I think the pressure is too much now not to have a female, black or both doctor. They've dug themselves into this hole by saying "ooh the doctor could be female" multiple times in the series and in almost every interview given on the subject in the past year by anyone even remotely linked to the show. If they do anything else now the press will portray it as if they have done something incredibly racist or sexist leading to many younger fans dropping the show.

If Marshall is in it he is probably going to be an assistant, which is a shame as he's such a good fit for a Doctor.

It is looking good for Claire Sweeney right now.

>my guess is that his showrunning is a temporary deal until they find the next RTD or Moff
I don't see why. His DW stories aren't as good but professionally speaking he's on the same level as RTD and Moffat. The reason it was hard to find someone to take over was because it's hard to find someone with enough experience to handle the workload, Chibnall has that though. The only other people who had done showrunning and also written for Doctor Who before was Whithouse and Gatiss, as far as I'm aware. Chibnall was the best choice out of those three, too.

It's going to be even harder to find the showrunner for after Chibnall, unless he starts grooming a particular person from the start of his era.
>>

Best way forward would probably be to have 2 showrunners working in a partnership together. Moffat for example would have worked well with Gatis like they do on Sherlock or then there was Life on Mars with Graham, Jordan and Pharaoh which had 3 show runners who worked all the scripts between them.

do you think gatiss ever begged the BBC/moffat for a co-showrunner system?

actually, that would have been interesting and made sense. moffat thought S9 was his last and only did S10 to give BBC/chibnall more time, but what if instead S10 was a joint effort between gatiss and moffat? it would have at least alleviated some of the pressure on moffat and also given us something a bit more fresh. and then gatiss would fuck off at the end of course, and give full reign to chibnall

aren't producers sort of like mini-showrunners already? I know RTD's producers seemed to have a lot more presence and power, like julie. I don't follow producers though, I have no idea when they change or even who they are. that could be a solution though, give producers a bit more creative power so you're not just hinging an entire show on one person. or buff the script editor job, so that it's actually important like it was in the classic series

I thought it was usual moffat shite. a few good kernels of ideas trapped in a bad script. wasted potential with the two Masters doing fuckall (although their final scene was great) all consequences undone for the companion as per usual, it sort of maked me like Nardole's sendoff by comparison just for being quite plain and without fanfare.

I love Susan.

I wish she hadn't left the show so early. I'm sure Carole Ann Ford would've stayed if they'd just let the character develop and become more mature and less screamy. Would have been very interesting to see how they would've handled Carole Ann Ford's eventual departure if it had happened after they'd already come up with the idea of regeneration. I wonder how many incarnations of Susan we would've seen over the years.

I also wonder why no future producers/writers ever tried to bring her back, considering the Doctor's iconic speech about coming back for her one day. I wonder if any of them were tempted and how close they got to it. I think it's far too late to do it now.

Moffat mentioned in an interview that they've recreated Hartnell's TARDIS for the Christmas special. As much as I want to see it again, I don't really understand when that would happen.

>We know nothing of the Doctors family and reintroducing Susan might force one to explain one of the core mysteries about the Doctor
I'm sure they could find a way around doing that. Honestly, I'm near certain Susan will return at Christmas. The three things that Capaldi's said he'd love to see in Doctor Who are; A Genesis of the Cyberman story, The First Doctor, and Susan. We got two of those, and clearly Moffat is doing this for Capaldi, so I'd say the chances of him bringing in Susan are pretty good, especially since the premise of the First Doctor being back makes it a lot easier.

I don't even see why you'd even need to address it. The Doctor's mentioned multiple times that he has a granddaughter, at no point does that ruin any mystery or bring up further questions that must be answered.

>so I'd say the chances of him bringing in Susan are pretty good, especially since the premise of the First Doctor being back makes it a lot easier.
You just made me realise that Moffat will probably definitely do that. And since the 1 in the Christmas special is clearly him in The Tenth Planet, Susan's already gone. So to meet her, 12 and 1 will have to go to her, which simultaneously meets the "One day I will come back" promise and explains why he never did it in later incarnations. Because he already did as 1.

I bet 12 and 1 have Christmas dinner with an old Susan towards the end of the episode, maybe she's even the one that finally helps them come to terms with regenerating. Screencap this

Pretty sure the idea is that Missy is the last Master and the characters has officially died here, that's why Simmaster and Missy have that conversation about "where we've always been heading". Of course, the Master has a fuck ton of incarnations and plenty of gaps for a new version to be brought on the show, they'll just have to be before Missy and thus before the Master's final decision to be good and stand with the Doctor

No reason to think this.

You're vastly overestimating the importance of the audios and the number of fans they have. Again, I'm one of the losers that actually spends my real money to listen to hours of ear stories, and I'd be annoyed if I found out that we missed out on a good idea because Moffat or another TV writer didn't want to contradict an audio. Sure, if you can write it in a way that it works alongside the audio or leaves it ambiguous enough to work, that's great. But if you can't, who cares?

It could easily be solved by her saying something like
>I didn't think I would see you again grandfather, not like this. The last time I saw you, you had already regenerated. But doesn't your presence here, along with your future self, violate the first law of time travel?
and then the 1st and 12th explain it away with the whole multiple doctors cause memory problems and the episode continues on. The audio fans are happy and it only takes 30 seconds.

>The Master deciding to finally join the Doctor's side seems like a major character shift
Yeah, too bad nothing came out of it and she just died in the woods away from the action. Not only that, but the Doctor doesn't even know she chose to join him.
>>
I hear Kris Marshall's not allowed in anymore. Apparently he used to go up to every visitor and greet them going "Hello, I'm Dr Who you know". Some would remain silent and back away from him nervously, obviously just thinking he's some random loon, to which he would just grin and repeat the words "I'm Dr Who. I'm Dr Who..." until they either agree with him, or security has to escort him away.

There was one day where he hung around the beginning part where Twelve gives you a video introduction, and whenever Capaldi says "Hello, I'm the Doctor," Marshall would always shout "Not for long!" before bursting into maniacal laughter.

Breaking point was when he started to steal items of clothing from the display stands. One time he was caught with all the outfits scattered around it, Marshall himself half dressed in Colin Baker's coat, sending desperate selfie texts to Chris Chibnall asking which outfit suited him best.

Nowadays he just hangs out the front, and is frequently seen sobbing near the gates, sometimes shouting "I will be Dr Who! I will be!" to no one in particular. Poor thing. I think he's finally beginning to realise.

Anyway, Kris Marshall isn't the next Dr Who. 100%

This is a stupid theory. If the Monk trilogy was going to be the finale, it would be radically different to what we got, since it would have all been written by Moffat. The Lie of the Land was written by Whithouse, so the whole "burned up" by the process thing would have never have even been in the script had Moffat penned it.

sorry pal but capaldi's favorite monster is the cybermen, and I have a feeling the christmas special won't have a monster in it just so that it doesn't undermine the doctor falls as his last monster
>>
>>84565995
They won't though, cos they want kids to buy more toys. It just needs to be used less often, maybe like a cap of three or four times a series, and not just as an easy get-out.
>>
>>84566005
I felt 11's use of the Screwdriver was fine. It was really used as a "here's a computer thing we could easily drag out" rather than actually using it to escape corners they'd written themselves into.
>>
>>84566013
The Doctor Falls makes really heavy use of Cybermen.

The Pilot, meanwhile, is just a really shit Dalek cameo. Almost a waste if that's the last time he sees one.

>I have a feeling the christmas special won't have a monster in it
I doubt that

>>84566043
It was overused though. I think there's even times in Cold War he whips out the sonic and literally zaps and waves it at thin air, then puts it away again for no reason.

Uhhh? How is wanting to see one "forcing" one in, when we don't even know the story yet? And Steven Moffat is a writer who happily throws lots of cameos into stories. 12 and 1 could encounter a Dalek as part of the plot.
>>
>>84566126
I don't even get this; Nick voices the fucking Cybermen too, so he was in The Doctor Falls prominently anyway.

Mark Gatiss seems to sound pretty 'final' with Empress of Mars. It was his fanboy ep, the one he'd always wanted to do, and says he knows nothing of Chibnall's plans, and is excited to watch as a viewer again.
>>
>>84566011
Because it wouldn't really make sense to use 1's TARDIS. He can barely control it and it has to return to that exact spot later for him to walk back into it with Ben and Polly. It would make much more sense for them both to use 12's for whatever antics they get up to.

heather's shitty, but not broadchurch killer levels of shitty, since she's the focal point of the whole first episode and strongly hinted at the end of said episode to return, and on top of that the entirety of series 10 isn't built around a mystery of figuring out how bill is revived, it's just one small plot thread out of dozens. broadchurch on the other hand doesn't introduce joe until the final episode and then dumps a massive asspull of exposition on the viewer that nobody could've predicted, and yet spends the entire series building up to a conclusion that is ultimately a complete wet fart.

I'm fine with him being averse to it since the promise of the Christmas episode is going to be him coming to terms with it eventually together with Hartnell, who's also averse to it. It's not like The End of Time where RTD was just being a mopey shit. If you're worried about Moffat misunderstanding how regeneration should go, I wouldn't be, he showed a damn good understanding of the necessity of it in The Time of the Doctor, and I've got faith that in the Christmas special he'll do a good job at getting 12 into the same place.

TARDIS photo leak anon here. Doc 13 wasn't at the Christmas readthrough. The script by Steven stopped once 12 regenerated. The rest is written by Chibnall (probably a single scene, as is tradition) and will be filmed seperately, at a later date.

I can only speculate that Moffat saying "it'll be different" was in relation to them teasing the regeneration at the end of the series, as opposed to drastically altering the way it's done.
