How anyone still thinks that it wasn't meant to be Audrey in the Red Room is beyond me. She and Cooper don't have to be fucking for her to be the better choice. They have a powerful relationship, and even if they aren't romantically linked, it could have easily been said that he loves her like a daughter or something comparable.

I hate the ghoul formerly known as LFB as much as everyone else, but why should she shoulder all the blame when Kyle is as much responsible as she was?
He was the star of the show, ABC wasn't going to listen to a nobody like LFB nor would they have cared if she walked because her character was so unimportant. They only started paying attention when Kyle started dragging his ass and threatening to walk. He's just as much to blame as she is.

>>84458164
I actually agree with you, but I do think a lot of why most of the blame is laid on LFB has to do with her looking like a ghoul from a horror movie and Kyle still being qt. Not the only reason ofc, but it's easier to blame the one who looks like a fucking mistake of nature.

I'll give you a (You) for the effort, but there's actually something to be said about the difference between these two relationships and how well it could've worked if Annie wasn't introduced in such a shit way.
Had she have been a principle character since the pilot, she would've been fine. They could've had this Betty/Veronica thing going with her and Audrey that could've been really interesting and engaging. Annie herself isn't the problem, it's the way she was written into the show.

That's something I can agree with. It's very blatant during S2 that she's a "hey heres a girl for cooper" character.
She actually would have fit in pretty well to the TP universe tbf.
It makes it all the more confusing that Lynch froze her out for S3- given the amount of characters that can't come back, surely having a good member of the original cast would be great, but we'll have to see how it plays out

They should've gone with this angle desu. Audrey's relationship with Ben was horrible and Cooper filled that void in a positive, loving way while also adding an undercurrent of psychosexual creepiness that would've been perfect for the show and could've mirrored Leland/Laura's relationship.
>>84458571

I think the relationship would have worked even if they cut out the romantic developments, with Cooper and Audrey developing their friendship, and Cooper providing some of that positive male influence/attention that Audrey so clearly lacked in her own home life.

>Matt Haley: Bob and I had a number of discussions about what the story would be, I was keen to use whatever notes they had for the proposed third season, I really wanted this to be a literal '3rd season' of the show. Bob told me they really wanted to get away from the high school setting, so after the resolution of the Cooper-BOB-possession plot point, they would have cut to something like "Ten Years Later", and then shown us a Twin Peaks where Cooper had quit the FBI and had become the town pharmacist, Sheriff Truman had become a recluse, etc. He also mentioned they were going to have Sheryl Lee come back yet again, this time as a redhead, and probably have her character killed by BOB again. There were also some vague ideas about BOB and Mike being from a planet made of creamed corn, something about Truman driving Mike backwards through the portal into the Black Lodge (which I think would have been a really nice cinematic scene).

Lynch has made it clear he doesn't have plans to continue it beyond this. He's said things like "Anything is possible" but chances are this is the end. Hence why it is referred to as a "limited series" everywhere, including on the showtime website/app. Officially, on paper, it's not season 3, it's not the first season of a new series, it's an 18 episode miniseries.

A note for people arguing about the ratings: TV ratings are not accurately capturing the scope of people watching the show:
https://www.buzzfeed.com/kateaurthur/the-twin-peaks-ratings-are-actually-good?utm_term=.ym0DDwe44#.jgbYYVkbb
>linking to buzzshit
I know, but let me quote the relevant parts:
>The answer seems to be that Twin Peaks: The Return may actually be the most illustrative example through which we can quantify how television viewing is changing. Because, according to Showtime's metrics, 3.1 million viewers have watched the May 21 premiere, a number that will continue to grow as viewers decide to catch up on or binge the show. Through its first two weeks (Parts 1–4), Twin Peaks has averaged 2.5 million viewers across all platforms.
>Those numbers include viewership across Showtime's channels, delayed viewing, on-demand viewing, and streaming. It's the streaming where things get truly complicated, considering all of the options there are to do that: Showtime's standalone streaming service, launched in July 2015, is available through Apple TV, Hulu, Amazon, Roku, Sling TV, and more. As Showtime has stated previously — without releasing hard numbers — the weekend of the Twin Peaks premiere accounted for the network's best days ever for sign-ups for its streaming service. And, according to Showtime, Twin Peaks has the highest percentage of streaming viewers of any of its original shows.
TL;DR
>show gained lots of subscriptions
>streaming services ACROSS ALL PLATFORMS point to relative health (at least for the first half of the show screened thus far; I don't know about eps 5-8).
Please don't blindly parrot the TV-ratings-are-bad argument without doing a little research!
>>84458937
Yes, I am, true Lynch fans are creaming all over it and the rest of the plebdom will bow down when TP wins the awards and critical acclaim. Also, I believe that season finale will have a major cliff hanger and everyone will want to see what's next.

To be fair, Lynch seems like the guy to be easily burnt out if something doesn't go his way. I think this is partially why he makes so few movies.
Also, I think it's clear he loves the world of Twin Peaks. Why else would he take the time to edit together all of the Missing Pieces scenes to make it a "feature," or go through the trouble of staging that goofy fake "where are they now?" interview with the Palmer family if he didn't have a deep love of the world or its characters?
People often seem to project their own jaded personalities and edginess on to Lynch which I think is often unwarranted.

I think Kyle stands a chance at winning an Emmy. People love a good comeback story and he's playing a dual role which is like critic gold. That and he was nominated for an Emmy for the same role back in 1991 so there's some history here that critics would appreciate.
The only real competition I could see him having is Obi Wan if he gets nominated for his own dual roles from Fargo.

He'll lose to Ewan MacGregor in Fargo.
NOTE: I am not saying MacGregor was better. But he will win.

>>84459420
Pretty sure Twin Peaks won't be in the upcoming Emmys, but the one after it.

Yeah but the entirety of S03 has been confirmation that the hack was onto something, especially with that mother of abominations bullshit.

I mean, I don't think their relationship needed to turn romantic or sexual. But it's completely dropped partway into S2, and many viewers looked at Audrey/Cooper as the "main couple" of the series. Introducing two new, pointless, love interests did nothing for the narrative and it made Audrey's entire character arc for the 2nd half of S2 be completely worthless. I'd also argue that Cooper's sudden infatuation with Annie was out of character compared to how he acted before, and particularly if you consider that he knew Windom was in the area, was watching him, and was looking for revenge.
>>84459525
they are such a cute couple unironically
Sheryl Lee is and always will be CUTE!

Is he that good? I've never watched Fargo.

No, season 3 was shit and he was meh.
The Lodge feels so tame and sterile without its lighting and music
Didn't the arm also say that there's always music in the air where they're from? Why was it then gone 25 years later?

Long story short, Lynch stole the idea of my game.
>>84459643
Not that anon. He had one good scene that apparently addressed the usual Emmy checklist.
For the bulk of the season the writing wasn't good enough to overcome his obvious strain to portray some conflicted, "Minnesota nice" archetype.
>tfw two episodes left of S2
>an entire week to watch and absorb FWWM and S3
It's going to be a wild ride. A few episodes have been the equivalent of time wasted, but the show is good again.
I am not sure how many care, but this has been my personal estimation of the episodes so far. I am probably more forgiving of some of the s2 subplots that others (the nadine stuff is funny to me, and it's not on screen for too long at any point). There were some truly bad episodes - the Diane Keaton one (aka James: the Episode) was really rough to watch.

Does Lynch know about Serial Experiments Lain?
I get a similar vibe from this season.

Thanks to the week-by-week reveal of the upcoming soundtrack‘s track listing on iTunes, we know the title of the new Angelo Badalamenti music that was used during the unnamed character’s wondrous levitation scene in the theater: “The Fireman.”
Considering an alarm went off in his home, setting in motion a (rather unhurried) rescue action, we can assume that “???????” is “Fireman.” 7 question marks for 7 letters. And in a world where “fire walk with me” is synonymous with evil, a fireman is likely the key in the fight against it. Or like the Dutch actor said in an interview back in September, “I’m important for the development of the story.”

Why did Lynch remove the scene where Leland rips off Laura's hair and puts it on himself from FWWM? It's not even in the Missing Pieces.

So electricity in Twin Peaks is a conduit between two worlds. Is there a separate power in what is referred to as "magic?" Cooper realizes who the killer is when lightning flashes, and he referred to this as "magic" - some technique that was distinct from his "dream science" stuff. (Early in the series he says how dreams are a firing of electrical impulses, leading me to connect it to electricity rather than "magic.") I get the sense that MIKE and BOB are connected to the power of electricity. Is the "magic" that Cooper (and the boy who makes the corn disappear/predicts the future) uses different? (I'm only on S2E10, but I don't get the sense that this is something that is going to be fully explained, since all the "dualities" in the show are more show than tell, for the most part. Let me know if I'm wrong, though.)
>>84460114
Tim and Eric have acknowledged Lynch as an influence, particularly in regards to longer than expected takes that derive "comedy" from creeping unease.

To be fair the notes are basically the same as in Engel. The main difference is that each piece is sung in the same pitch in Engel, while the Amarcord song raises it the 2nd time it's played, plus it makes some descend in the final part, so I'd say it's Amarcord, if having to chose among both.
