Going by his remorse after Bob left him, I think it was mostly a cop out where Bob controlled him and he couldn't do a thing.

It would have made a lot more sense (and been in line with the "men create their own evil" theme of S03E08) if Bob had been attracted to Leland for doing something evil and despicable and rode along for the garmonbozia, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

IIRC Lynch described season 3 as Cooper's odyssey back to Twin Peaks, so at least I'm not convinced by the "Cooper stays as Dougie the whole season" or "Cooper never goes back to Twin Peaks" theories.

Since Lynch held out for an extra 9 episodes I wouldn't be surprised if Coop gets his memories back somewhere around the exact midpoint which would be the next episode. I think it could actually happen next episode given what just happened to DoppelCoop and Bob.

I agree and I loved the episode to death. But I'm scared of the direction the show is going in, I feel like this is going to take away from the impact of Fire Walk With Me a great deal.

I don't want Laura to be some destined being, predetermined to be the antithesis to Bob. I hate that idea, and it doesn't really fit with the series either because she lost that battle when she saw Bob in herself in the train car, she sacrificed herself for that, to end the cycle of abuse.

On one hand, I like the expansion of the lore, and the nuke in particular, and seeing this mauve world, I love it. But I must say I preferred it when Bob felt like an allegory to the cycle of abuse, and when the red room was more psychological than part of some grand mythos. There is still time to subvert this though, it doesn't necessarily have to be heading in that direction, but it sure feels like it is going to.

Yeah, to the spirits it is, but that still changes the fabric of Laura's whole story, time may not be linear to them, but them sending out a orb with her in it, 30 years before she's born, certainly seems to be a strong implication of planting a seed they want to defeat Bob.

Again, even if we're to take this as some sort of feedback loop of them not existing in linear time, and he knew she would be the one to stop him before he event sent the orb, but still does to ensure it happens.. that still is interfering with her story and changing her role.

The laura-as-icon orb could be meant for Cooper, you know. Some kind of trigger.

Maybe the news will show the Laura Palmer picture while covering Cooper's escape from federal prison, Dougie Cooper sees it, and this causes Cooper's reawakening.

They've actually foreshadowed people being triggered by that photo (Bobby)

I think the reason some of the black lodge folks are helping coop is because Bob owes them tons of garmonbozia. One armed man confronts Bob/Leland in FWWM screaming about "You stole my corn!" and I'm pretty sure it's referenced in one or two red room scenes from s2

So the only reason they're helping Coop is because they need him to get Bob back. The white lodge wants to help Coop for obvious reasons. For the black lodge it's more like "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"

The question for me now is whether the woodsmen extracted Bob and took him back to the lodge or if they saved him somehow, as if they're loyal to him.
