we need to think of a way to use splink
>>
>>84349181
Hello, /who/. Nate (the Faction Paradox fan who shows up in streams) is setting up an fanthology. the idea is that the anthology is all about Unbound Doctors, of various types. Not just the "official" Unbound Doctors, but also any alternate, non-"main 13" Doctors, including the Fatal Death Doctors, the Cabinet Of Light Doctor, the Nick Briggs Doctor from those Audiovisual stories, the Merlin Doctor...etc, as well as original Doctors.

Do you want to write "What if the Doctor was a talking animal?"

Go ahead.

"What if the Doctor had actually brained that cave man in Unearthly Child, and left Ian and Susan to die?"

Write on.

"What if Peter Cushing Doctor had kept on having movies?"

Sure.

"What if the Doctor was the Rani? No, seriously, what if?"

Everyone's the Rani, according to fan speculation.

Have fun. Just write a pitch by July 3rd (N8 doesn't necessarily need a detailed pitch, but it would be good to have a story, rather than just "here's my idea for an original Doctor." (The full story word limit is 8000 words). And the email for pitches is: [email protected] . D All Doctors are welcome, no matter how weird or obscure. (My pitch idea is "What if the Doctor was a mind virus?")

Have fun, and thank you for reading.

P.S: I intend to start accepting submissions for Shit Trips Vol 2 soon.

Well Nardole's role was from River to keep the Doctor in check. So given that Doctor will likely be sad about the failure of Missy and the "death" of Bill I think he will get separated from him rather than leave on his own choice.

I guess he'll be fine.
He's the best rumored actor to take the role anyway.

I work at the Cardiff BBC studios and I've got a bit of a scoop for you, you might want to pop a bit of money on this at the bookies before this news gets out to take advantage of some good odds (you'll thank me later).

The production team is being really careful about the identity of the actor playing Doctor Who, but they are a bit lax about other things. While cleaning their office I found a printed out document. On it it was detailing the new cast for the next series, after the Christmas special.

The Noodle guy or whatever his name was is still in it, but now he is being played by rolly polly funnyman Dara O'Brian instead of rolly polly funnyman Matt Lucas.

This means he is a time lord and regenerates or he gets a new body somehow (not outside the realms of possibility as he was decapitated in one episode I think).

They're making a new tardis for next year too but it's not past the design stage yet.
>>
>>84349965
I wasn't a huge Missy fan in S8 and 9 but she was fabulous in WEAT

Turns out it was all a simulation run using the monk's big computer thing.

That's why the doctor was talking to bill about running a test for Missy in flashbacks. The flashbacks will continue until right at the end when it is revealed that they are running a simulation and the Doctor, Nardole and Bill look up from a monitor and Nardole says. "Best not try that in real life then".

Bill then leaves the Doctor because she has realized how dangerous it can be now.

SAMANTHA SPIRO on the finale:

>"It was fun to fire the guns, but I did like the more human scenes Hazran has with Nardole. There's a waiting game for the war with the Cybermen to start, and we had some lovely scenes in the orphanage kitchen. There are some comic moments, and I think it's the closest Nardole gets to affection. Viewers will see him in a very different light. MY FIRST SCENE WAS WITH PEARL, which I loved too. She's been a revelation as Bill. Very feisty. I also loved watching Peter in action — I'm a really big fan so that was thrilling. The Doctor and Hazran have a couple of tender moments as well, which makes it quite a moving episode. Some of the scenes with Peter are really quite epic and tell a story that really touches the soul. It's a beautiful episode and I was really moved by it."

Extremis was good but the other two parts were horrible
It's like they did that game "take turns saying words to make a sentence" but it was with tag team episode scripts instead, they practically made no effort to plan ahead what the monks were even going to be and all 3 of them wrote as if one of the other episodes was going to explain it so they didn't have to
It's shocking how little planning seemed to have been done
>>
>>84352421
What we have here is failure to communicate. As in, nobody who wrote it actually managed to pass on what were they writing.

Extremis was good, but it had no relation to other two parts.
Pyramid was deeply flawed, but IMO, passable
The Lie of the Land was ridiculous awful

Moffat is a generator of concepts. He's mediocre writer.
Meanwhile RTD is great writer, but he doesn't have mindblowing concepts in his head, just solid, great writing.
>>
>>84352421
A waste of episodes. I'm actually surprised how badly they dropped the ball.
>>
I think sadly the passing of Moffat's mother hurt the trilogy. Moffat was too distraught to really edit Pyramid, apparently he was editing the script at the hospital, definitely not a great mindset to be writing Who. I think he just said fuck it and let Harness/Whithouse finish it off. That's why the other two parts were so different.
>>
>>84352764
>RTD is great writer
Nah, he just knows how to push in just the right amount of melodrama and overacting to make the viewer think what's happening is well written.
>>
>>84352581
This, the problem was Extremis set up stuff that Pyramid ignored, and Pyramid set up stuff that Lie of the Land ignored. Basically, it should have just been a one off with Extremis which was pretty goat. The other two weren't needed.
>>
>>84352898
I bet you cant differentiate drama and melodrama
>>
>>84352816
I was thinking this as well desu
Something was clearly up, there's so many things in Pyramid that could have been fixed with simple rewrites (the doctor should have just video streamed to bill's phone with his glasses, but to remove that plot hole they could have taken his glasses away and had him talk to bill some other way, for example)

RTD is more of an entertaining writer, he knows how to connect with the audience and get them really into the show. As someone previously said here, it didn't matter the quality, in the RTD era you were in for a ride.

As opposed to Moff who's pretty out there and high-concept, but sometimes his era just has really boring shit. Like 70% of this series.
>>
>>84352941
Drama is when you manage to make the viewer feel emotion from the characterization and events of what's happening, melodrama is when you attempt to pull at the viewers feelers by just causing random drama without actually putting much effort into the events like how Rose became I_WUV_THE_DOCTOR.exe and 10 became the overly dramatic and sensitive hero in some of his stories.
>>
>>84352942
Yeah Pyramid and Lie were full of plot holes. I don't think Moffat was involved in them much.
>>
how to fix trilogy

the monks kill 12 in the simulation before he can send the video to real 12 . the other two episodes don't happen.
>>
>>84353091
No
I can give a classic example of drama and melodrama difference

Melodrama is when one character hates other character and shoots him, but it turns out that gun doesn't work
Drama is when one character hates other character and when he's about about to shooting him, he realises that he cant do it because hes not like that

Doctor claiming himself to be a forward and not a killer is drama
Doctor saying "I forgive you" to Master is drama
Doctor and River Song loving each other but meeting in random order is melodrama
>>

>Making a three parter with three different writers
BRAVO DOCTOR WHO
>>
Moffat's pandering to minorities unbearably blatant.

The way he writes the show, he acts as if every minority character is a first in the entire run of the show, when RTD did it better and classier. Rather than put a microscope to a character's gender, race or sexuality, they are presented as complex characters foremost with their minority status referenced incidentally throughout the story without having to completely halt the chain of action to get the pandering out of the way.

Take Jack Harkness - he is obviously bisexual yet the show never paused, halted in its tracks and turned to the cameras to explain his sexuality for the mandated 2 minutes per episode.

Martha Jones is black but the show didn't need to bring up her race out of nowhere - where it was brought up, it was relevant to the plot and she was able to stand up for herself instead of having the doctor white knight her and punch a racist in the face.

Meanwhile, Bill Potts rarely gets an episode where her lesbianism or race isn't referenced - Moffat thinks he's doing a good thing but nobody, including the minorities he's so desperate to please, is buying it.

to add to this, a perfect example of Drama in RTD era was the Human Nature adaption while a an example of melodrama would be a good percent of the interactions between 10 and Rose where the emotion on screen seemed a little too much for the situation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Moffat doesn't have melodrama I'm just saying that RTD used it very often as a way to make the viewers care about an otherwise meh episode.

Makes you sound like a tory being interviewed or something and doesn't prove RTD is Jack's creator at all, at best you could argue for a collaboration but, no way could you claim RTD is Jack's creator and Moffet is not. You offer no proof for your assertions, therefore you loose the argument.

>In naming the character, executive producer and head writer Russell T Davies drew inspiration from the Marvel Comics character Agatha Harkness,[87] a character whose surname Davies had previously used in naming lead characters in Century Falls and The Grand. Davies states that reusing names (such as Tyler, Smith, Harper, Harkness and Jones) allows him to get a grip of the character on the blank page.[88] Jack's original appearances in Doctor Who were conceived with the intention of forming a character arc in which Jack is transformed from a coward to a hero,[6] and John Barrowman consciously minded this in his portrayal of the character.[86] Following on that arc, the character's debut episode would leave his morality as ambiguous, publicity materials asking, "Is he a force for good or ill?"[89]

>Actor John Barrowman himself was a key factor in the conception of Captain Jack. Barrowman says that at the time of his initial casting, Davies and co-executive producer, Julie Gardner had explained to him that they "basically wrote the character around [John]".[90] Davies had singled out Barrowman for the part. On meeting him, Barrowman tried out the character using his native Scottish accent, his normal American accent, and an English accent; Davies decided it "made it bigger if it was an American accent".[91] Barrowman recounts Davies as having been searching for an actor with a "matinée idol quality", telling him that "the only one in the whole of Britain who could do it was you". A number of television critics have compared Barrowman's performances as Captain Jack to those of Hollywood actor Tom Cruise.[92][93][94][95]

>Jack is bisexual, and is the first televised Doctor Who character to be openly anything other than heterosexual. In Jack's first appearance, the Doctor suggests that Jack's orientation is more common in the 51st century, when humankind will deal with multiple alien species and becomes more sexually flexible.[2] Within Doctor Who's narrative, Jack's sexual orientation is not specifically labelled as that could "make it an issue".[90][104] On creating Jack, Davies comments "I thought: 'It's time you introduce bisexuals properly into mainstream television,'" with a focus on making Jack fun and swashbuckling as opposed to negative and angsty.[105] Davies also expresses that he didn't make the character bisexual "from any principle", but rather because "it would be interesting from a narrative point of view."[

That never made it in sadly

Also I'd forgotten how bad the pointing a gun at his head part was.

Uh, it's obvious he's unintentionally playing Russian Roulette.
Every time he points he is literally trying to shoot someone.

It's just fortunate that no bullets come out until he shoots the machine.

Interesting concept I'm glad they tried out but it totally fell on it's face. I wish they'd coordinated it better.

Hope not desu, it's be interesting if the Doctor had to fight her. Maybe that's how he regenerates, he can't bring himself to attack her?
