All the early Moffat-era shipping gave me a colonoscopy. I never felt invested in a single one of the Doctors' relationships. So when they announced Capaldi I was very excited. I had been hoping they would go back to an older Doctor. I felt it would be an appropriate and much needed departure from all the handsome, youthful, "sexy" Doctor's that had littered the BBC. I was gung-ho to have a Dr who wouldn't been affected by frivilous romance; that we could focus on companion relationships more meaningful, built upon a stronger foundation of respect and competence and not lust and sex appeal.

For the most part I think Capaldi delivered that. I liked Capaldi, I really did, but he suffered a Christian Haydensen and was afflicted with shitty writing. He had a handful of quality episodes and I really mourn for what I see was a wasted opportunity with Capaldi. I can only hope he goes out strong.
