Speaking of books, I don't really see mentioned around here The Secret Diary of Laura Palmer. Bretty good read. Kinda fucked though. It goes into more detail about how she sees Bob and the slow degradation of herself from being a good little girl, to a lewd teenage girl that masturbates in the woods, and all of her sexual exploits of banging almost every guy in Twin Peaks. Towards the end of the book it specifically says on certain pages that the pages were lost/ripped out at the time the FBI confiscated it, keeping to the show mentioning the same thing about how pages were missing.

Last night I finished re-watching all of the old Twin Peaks and finally watched The Missing Pieces. Season 1 is perfect, the first 9 episodes of season 2 are perfect, episodes 10-17 of season 2 are a bit rough but not as terrible as people say they are, episodes 18-21 of season 2 are good, the season 2 finale is excellent, Fire Walk With Me is good, The Missing Pieces is interesting but I can see why most of those scenes were cut out of Fire Walk With Me. Have any of you anons recently re-watched the old Twin Peaks? What did you think?

I've seen the series about six times since I got it on VHS around 1997 or 98. Watched FWWM more than that because it's one my favorite movies of all time.

Watched the Q2 fanedit last weekend. I agree, most of the cuts were better left off. There were two scenes put in that I felt improved things, some Donna scene, and the cuts with Leland remembering the Theresa Banks stuff after the MIKE incident.

I have to say that this remains one of my favourite turns out of all the shows and films I've watched. Cooper, pure hearted, incredibly skilled and remarkably brave, loses his nerve and is utterly defeated. The first time I saw it, I had to watch the finale all over again. Taking the series in again from start to finish, the whole things seems horrifically inevitable. Not even Cooper could tangle with the lodge and escape unscathed.

Dougie is a masterstroke
You can tell he'll just frustrate the plebs and pseudo intellects, while providing comedy gold beauty to those who appreciate him

Not only do I think the Dougie stuff is funny, I think it's actually way deeper than people give it credit for. David Lynch isn't just doing this stuff for humor's sake, as a lot of people seem to think -- he's making an artistic statement, like he usually does. Cooper's journey back to reality through Dougie's life has so much to say about success, happiness, fulfillment, and just the human condition.
Dougie was a disaffected, clearly troubled and unhappy man. Cheating on his wife with prostitutes, neglecting his family in general, working a mundane job, getting buried under tremendous debt... through Cooper's perspective we're getting the opposite spin on his life, almost like Dougie experienced an epiphany/moment of clarity/near-death-experience type thing, and Cooper's persona is equivalent to him viewing his life through a new set of eyes. There are of course many other layers to it, as well as a ton of justification for Lynch's artistic choice in general (look at how much Major Briggs was affected just from being in the lodge for 2 days, let alone 25 years), but this is personally one of my favorite ways to view it.
So yes, I love it. I adore it in fact.

The way I see it is that Dougie (The original and his now brainless state) and Bad Cooper are both types of foils to the original Cooper. Either with calculated malice and darkness, or a stumbling ineptitude unable to do anything meaningful.
I really enjoy the Dougie scenes, not just for comedy but also for emotional interest. It's almost like a puzzle to figure out how much he's there and not there, and what's going on in his mind.
Even in the latest episode, watching him stumble around after some coffee, hearing the words agent and case files, and that green glow on his face before straightforwardly saying "He's lying" and pausing to think about that gunman statue. I really like it.

Agreed. And as far as Dougie and Bad Coop acting as foils, you're definitely right there. Bad Coop is particularly disturbing to me in just how polar opposite he is, yet also such a mastermind like regular Coop... Dougie is almost disturbing in his mundanity, too. But yeah, there's really just so much to enjoy here, and so much more depth to be found if you're willing to look for it. One thing you can always be reasonably sure of is that Lynch rarely takes any half-measures -- he almost always takes his work as seriously as possible, and very few scenes he's included in the stuff he directs are just "throwaway" material.
