There were some truly touching scenes in this. I think what hurt most was the tone was so abruptly different - going from a comedy/gangster to kidnapping/sadcore in 15 minutes was jarring.

This movie is great. The only problem with it is how dark everything is. You can barely tell what's happening most the time. A shot for shot remake would be awesome.

I actually don't think I've seen a single post-Little Nicky Sandler movie. They just generally looked less appealing to me I guess. Or maybe it was a different point in my life where I started watching different types of movies.

As silly and dumb as they can be sometimes, I like Roland Emmerich's movies. 2012 in particular is the disaster movie to end all disaster movies and it's just hilariously fun to watch the characters survive tons of things over and over again when they really shouldn't have.
>>
>>65020138

People either seem to love Goblet or hate it. Personally it's my favorite, as it's the first time Harry has to deal with 'real' teenage problems like alienation, getting a date, fighting with friends, etc., and it's also the movie where things turn actually dark, the ending capping off the growing sense of danger throughout.

I feel that the contrast between the two periods of time being portrayed was very well executed, and being a person who grew up at the behest of an unhappy marriage I can testify that the dialogue was pretty on the nose and realistic

Critics were expecting family values nigger style, they got existential robots and Die Antwoord ending in Robocop-level violence. Visuals makes up for the disjointed story. 7/10 would get drunk and watch again.

Elysium suffered from the same thing, great visuals and characters not fitting into a straightforward story framework. Imagine an airhead with a great ass, you want to kill the bitch but the ass game too good for that so you just feel conflicted.

sucker punch is snyders best movie and a slightly mis-executed near masterpiece.

problem is, too many moving parts and too much potential in a ton of different areas to turn off different audiences.. and one of the biggest remainders is the dude bros who just like action set pieces and half naked girls who don't know that the movie is mocking them to their face. the funnier thing is how complicated it is and how many other targets it criticizes. very timely too, with this ever-louder but not necessarily smarter feminist aspect in our society.

truly the starship troopers of our time.

Derivative and fell short of the directors' pedigree. I went in either high or really drunk, don't remember which, at the local $2 theater and drowsed throughout the whole thing. Best thing was the Redmayne guy cause he had Presense.

This is just another thing that worked because it was meant to be a graphic novel in motion.

Those slo-motion shots may feel unnecessary but I think they're crucial to the style when adapting the panels of a comic book into film

This movie is what started the "Movement 2 of Beethoven's Seventh Symphony is really dark and edgy, so let's use it constantly in movies whenever the character arc reaches the lowest point in the plot, even if out movie's tone is completely inappropriate to use this musical piece in" shit that totally ruined a good deal of Beethoven's works for me. Fuck the Knowing, it was a shit movie with an overused character arc and an entirely predictable plot as well. The moment they started playing Beethoven's edgiest hits, it became pretty clear there was going to be an unhappy ending.

I think it's just I was already burnt out on bullet time slow-motion CGI by the time 300 came out, and slow-motion seemed to resurge some when that movie came out. But 300 is a case of using it well. It really annoyed me in the first season of Spartacus too, but that show is so good overall that I kinda got used to it.

I never understood why so many people dislike it. They put it on par with Die Hard 5. Die Hard 2 and 3 were fucking shit. The only thing people bitch about is that the scales got pushed further, and why is that a problem? It's the obvious progression of the sequels. First one was in a building. Second was was in an airport. Third one was across a city. And this one is across several states.
Everything about it was great. A good villain, they immediately know who John Mcclane, fuck with him, he gets progressively hurt and fucked and the movie even expands on how this hero business just fucked with him and nothing good came out of it.
Hell, the 5th Die Hard was originally the idea for Die Hard 4, have Bruce with his son, but they changed it because they wanted a girl to kick ass or something.

And the president montage is pretty chilling too.

It's because it lost everything that made Die Hard actually hard. First movie he survives by the skin of his teeth, nearly stopped by a hallway of glass, vies for even a gun a chunk into the movie. 70's/80's action had already survived grindhouse movies. Shit like Deathwish sequels had already been watering things down. Die Hard brought up McClane as an apprehensive action man that was possible. A well done big budget movie. Two was the "Bigger Harder" one, and three got back to McClane not being to fix the issue with a gun. Four and Five.... I just can't do them. They just blend in with movies Die Hard's successors spurred.
>>
>>65023110

I personally find the unrated to be worse. They changed some of the dialogue, like after he throws the car to the heli. In the unrrated, he says something like 'I ran out of bullets' which is funny but the unrated, can't remember what it says, but it was underwhelming. The only reason for the unrated is for the motherfucker moment.

>>65023308
>First movie he survives by the skin of his teeth, nearly stopped by a hallway of glass
Yeah? And he also barely survives with the skin of his teeth in the 4th one as well. Something that is barely there in the 2nd and 3rd. Again, this is really just people bitching that 4 was shit because of the scale being brought to many states rather than a single location.
This is why I don't understand why people don't bring the whole 'he's not fucked by the skin of his teeth' for the 3rd Die Hard.
In Die Hard 4, he does an insane amount of bullshit, for sure, but he gets fucked hard for it.
He defeats, a heli, he has scars everywhere, he defeats that kung fu chink, he starts limping. By the time he's at the end, he's a fucking mess, just like in Die Hard 1.

Hell, I would argue that Die Hard 4 is closer to the original than any other Die Hard movies.

We saw his limits before and he's nearly 30 now. The curtain is pulled, it doesn't ask well for suspension of disbelief. And before he was repelling down a building only for the finale. Now he trashes a heli halfway through and he isn't even done. 1-3 he was still the reluctant hero. 4 and 5 he's like "Well I guess I'm going to have to die hard.... again." >Why would you come to that conclusion even after I specifically said "The epilogue, retard," at the beginning of the goddamned post?
Because I thought you said he *never* had time to recover.

>The McClane at the end of Die Hard 1 was a far more shaken one than the McClane at the end of Die Hard 4.
Older McClane is tougher.

You shouldnt post James Franco stuff really,
like that jew has soo much movies coming out of his ass that seem "mature" you'd believe he's the next Adam Sandler. He even released two books in 4 months.

This guy is doing everything to move away from DUDE WEED LMAO, writes screenplays, books, acts in indies etc
>>

>>
>>65023394
Ok so whatchu sayin is McClane the cop, retired or something by now, uses a motorcycle to fly hundred feet unscathed whilst taking out a Jet thats there to kill him for some reason because of some hacker because of some reason hates the US.

>>

I'm sorry, what's your point?

>>65024106
It's actually to make money, which is more of a throwback at the original Die Hard by how Hans doesn't want to be seen as a petty theif, and this faggot in Die Hard 4 says he wants to steal murrica a lesson when he just wants to rob it blind because they shit on him.
Hell, that got probably is the better villain of the Die Hard franchise.
>>
>>65023966
Holy shit this reminds me of the antics of Bruce Willis getting pissed that nobody liked the new Die Hard movie so he sat up all night every night just arguing with people on a public film forum until everyone realized it was him and had him verify through a webcam session.

Bruce go to bed

>>65024125
Fuck off, that's perfect Spider-Man. The Green Goblin shit was bad, but everything else was great.
>>
>>65024031
Franco is an enigma man. The dude can act but is in crap too, he's in so much dude weed lmao shit but if he just ditched it he could have gone far. I can't even tell if he's ultra pretentious or just doesn't give a fuck and is having fun.

I too can't believe how much he does. He must never sleep or some shit.
>>
>>65024198
Seems like he just did that weed shit to actually get paid and some start in the industry like Josh Hartnett, he did those cheesy 90s horror or college movies and once he got big he switched to Indies immediately.

Best thing James Gunn has done desu
>>
>>65024231
But he was already famous before the dude weed stuff, remember Spider-Man? Plus the shear amount of dude weed things he's in suggests it's by desire.
>>
>>65024252
I also liked a bit that movie with the same actor, Fuck America or something. Weirdly enough, has almost the same tone and they even make fun how shit it is that we sexualize preteens and even how Juno is shit, while that Juno girl being in Super.
>>
>>65024297
Nah, you can't just bank on having a film role after a franchise if you have no "range".

See: Emma watson
>>
>>65024337
shit too tired, you cannot bank on your film acting credits from a well-known franchise. It won't hold also it does not improve your range. Didn't Toby McGuire fall off after Spider-man?
>>
This movie restored my faith in Michael Bay

Except she's staring in a soon-to-be big Disney movie.

That said I see your point, just after a point doing that crap holds you back from doing better stuff

I genuinely believe this is a great movie and a good way to end as a trilogy. IMHO this movie could still be canon
>>
>>65024375
Oh, I actually also liked that movie.
That part where it says 'this is still a true story' when the Rock grills the fingers gave me chills. It's somewhat funny how everyone lets these idiots do whatever they want and then the movies says that the reason they did what they did was because they were the stupid ones, not everyone who didn't notice their bullshit.

Ebert hated it
One of my favorite X-Mas movies and probably my favorite Steve Martin movie

The only great thing about the movie is probably the theme.

So fucking good. It has a creepy corporate conspiracy vibe to it.

I remember thinking it was horribly cynical as a kid, that the movie reaally hated christmas for some reason and never watched it again.
>>

Really solid monster and set design in that. However, it and the sequel obnoxiously had Pyramid Head thrown in
the mix iirc. Monsters in SH are for the most part manifestations of the protagonists psyche, so his inclusion in a movie without James Sutherland is kinda jarring.

Dirty /v/ infrequent cross-poster here: why is your bump limit 300 rather than 500?

This. I don't care how different it was from the source material, it was still a very good horror movie and I enjoyed it a lot.

Sequel was a complete shit though.
