The poll results make me mad
Voting DS9, a series which mostly revolves around politics, war and being on a fucking station being the best representation of a franchise that started on the premise of the unknown, the exploration and the pushing forward is just objectively incorrect.
DS9 is the better series, but it is only star trek in name. Like there is not even an opinion here.
all that vote proves is which is the plebbiest choice, mate :)
>getting mad over how strangers appreciate [...]
You realize that this is the most major driving factor in ruined franchises? It's because of idiotic people who don't know shit about the material they're getting into.
This is what brought us 3 fucking JJ star trek movies, that are alll competing to be the most terrible of them all.

The one where Moriarty gained sentience
Data is supposed to be this big deal, positron up android, that no one can replicate.
Than the computer creates sentience capable of also feeling emotions just by being given a stupid command
>REDDIT WINS AGAIN POTTERY
You speak as if 90% of the poll wasn't voted on by redditors who have invaded /tv/ over the last year or so. That poll in no way truly reflects the views of what used to be /tv/ or what 4chan to be for that matter.
Have you watched VOY? It basically shits all over the uniqueness of Data by having sentient human-replicant AIs be dime a dozen (though to be fair it is a few years after TNG)
Hijack: if i've never seen star trek except for the jj abrams movies, where should i start?
It looks really cool but i get overwhelmed by all the different series/movies. Any recommendations?
Friendly reminder that Captain Janeway did nothing wrong.
Watch a Top Ten or Top Twenty episode list of TOS. If you like what you see, go back to the beginning and watch the whole show.
Watch the pilot of TNG, then try watching from the beginning of the third season. If you like what you see, go back to the beginning and watch the whole show.
Save DS9 as a reward for when you finish TOS and TNG.
Preaching to the choir here anon. Let me drag out my defense of the Tuvix situation.
>Disregarding the fact that he was very annoying, her duty (and the ethical thing to do) was always to save the lives of her two crewman. That Tuvix wanted to stay alive was irrelevant-- Neelix and Tuvok were non-compos-mentis at the time and were indeed glad when they got reseparated.
>The creation of Tuvix from two original life forms was no different from various incidents like Janeway turning into a slug or Kirk splitting into two people or the Federation command getting taken over by those parasites. Nobody ever complains that there was an ethical violation in any of those cases or that 'slug janeway had a right to life!'; the only reason people care about Tuvix whatsoever was that he was able to still carry out a job on the ship, which is a poor and selfish excuse.
True, though it wasn't limited to the ship itself. There were episodes back in the Alpha Quadrant where you met the EMH creator who had a bunch of holograms in his house, and there was an arc about Hirogen holodecks that started a rebellion and hijacked a random ship.

Any of my video games, especially my RTS games, but where I'm on the ground instead of in the sky.
Holograms in Voyager are magic. There are episodes where the writers forgot that holograms are just projections of light from physically separate computers, and that the code for them isn't stored inside the holograms themselves.
>if you shoot a hologram then you can corrupt its matrix subroutines
>if you shoot your monitor then you can corrupt your operating system
why do you hate me, faggot?
watch all of TNG, then VOY, then ENT, then Deep Shit 9, then TOS.
What is the best ship and why is it the Prometheus?
Dixon Hill episodes
Motherfuckin Vic Fontaine episodes
This one is easy. Battle of Britain or Alamo with O'Brian and Julian
Friendly reminder that Paramount and Warner Bros purposely took what they liked from the Babylon 5 script and put it in the DS9 script.
Making DS9 nothing more than B5 in a Star Trek universe setting .
>u r captain

The dichotomy between this Star Trek thread and the one about 12 hours ago is incredible.
That old one, like this one, had a fairly small IP count. But it was filled almost entirely with thoughtful, level-headed discussion about the strengths and weaknesses of the TOS/TNG films. There were no memes, waifus, or shitslinging about DS9 and Voyager, and it died at about 150 posts once everything had been said.
Now this thread is like the polar opposite-- no intelligent discussion whatsoever, just pure rapid-fire indulgent shitposting that barely has to do with Trek
you dropped your fedora, sir. notha cup o tea?
I find it funny that Lardericans are actually proud that they drink that disgusting crap coffee
>That old one, like this one, had a fairly small IP count. But it was filled almost entirely with TNG/ DS9 posts just the way all trek threads I enjoy are.
Also it's 1AM in the US. Most Amerifats are asleep. If you like the on during US daytime hours I guess you could thank the Amerifats.
Then who is running this thread, the Chinese? It's 5:49 AM here in the UK, whereas it was right after work ended when we had the good thread.
Also where did you get 'TNG and DS9' from? There was no DS9 whatsoever in it, the quality came from the posts themselves, not the shows being discussed.
how would you spill your spaghetti as an actor around ryan during her prime?
Nice projection, it's just common knowledge that that's how redditors write. I've said the same in Trek threads many times before, which you might know if you were here longer than a few days.
Did they go out of their way trying to pick out the cutest dog on earth or was it just a happy coincidence
No, she took advantage of him, sure, but he was willing. Plus they were both wasted under the effects of the virus, so it doesn't really matter.
Data seemed to value the experience in retrospect anyway.
Dear Britbong friend,
4chan is an American website, made by Americans, run on American servers, for and about American topics, such as Star Trek, which was made by Americans, on the American-made internet.
tl;dr Please turn off youre 56k Russian-made "computer" and get off our site. Thank you!
you just know Data cranked it to this and rubbed it all over his fully functional crotch
> l'd blow every fuse if l tried to keep up with you, Martha May!
believe it or not, I was the one who made that thread
Genuinely havin a giggle right now at an American lecturing on internet speeds (how's Comcast friendo?) and who 'invented' what when you're speaking the ENGLISH language in a country founded by English settlers. Your meme-country wouldn't have jack shit if it wasn't for us and our history.
The scientific and philosophical advancements that let you sit on your fat ass and watch Star Trek? All developed for thousands of years in Europe. Europe spilled its blood so you could exist.
No, it was under boob.
"We brits are so civil in our star trek threads. AMERICA AMERICA GOD I HATE AMERICA SO JEALOUS OF EVERYTHING YOU DO AND HOW WE BOW TO YOU IN EVERYTHING HNNNNG I NEeD to KEEP TALKIN BOUT AMERICAR"
Well the funny thing is, our thread was civil, and your thread right now is in shambles. You realize Patrick Stewart is English, right?
lol. How's your space program, buddy? Wouldn't it be cool if yurop was able to get into space and make optimistic works about space travel?
but picard is french and stewart is a ding dong.
again, I was OP of that thread fucktard, and I regularly post about my trekfu
I see a lot of bad talk about reddit on here. As an actually member of reddit's Star Trek community, I'd like to have a formal 'diplomatic' meeting with /tv/ in the spirit of Star Trek!
Consider me the 'ambassador' from the United Federation of Subreddits.
I would like to say that I apologize if certain people have been making our community seem bad. We tend to have very quality discussions most of the time, and our culture can find a meeting point with yours I'm sure. When I told people on our subreddit IRC that there was a whole /StarTrek/ general thread they didn't even know what I was talking about, but already we are picking up the memes like 'Tell me about your sexual organs'. You'll find we have our own unique things to offer too, like real AMAs with Star Trek actors.
From now on I will use this username so you can identify me, and hopefully we can clear up these stupid biases against our sites and favorite shows, which are against the spirit of Trek altogether.
Live long, and prosper
My point is that I don't pretend to be pretentious about my Trek.
Well I'm sure you have something to be proud of, like Commander Sisko
What the blazes does the OPs posting habit outside of the thread have to do with anything? You didn't shit it up with Ro Laren then, and that's all that matters.
>Accepting that holography in VOY is meme magic

Probably something juvenile like being a superhero or Jedi. Or, ironically, a Starfleet captain.
DS9 is better, but they're just as Trek as each other.
TOS, TNG and ENT are all about venturing out and exploring the unknown.
DS9 and VOY are spinoffs, one set on a static station during a war and the other has more in common with Stargate Universe and Lost in Space than it does with other Trek shows.
Why are you acting like you're too good to participate in these threads, yet still posting? If I can appreciate both threads, why can't you?
>who 'invented' what when you're speaking the ENGLISH language
Didn't the English language borrow a great deal from Latin language.
Enjoy Your Mexican ripoff language.
>Didn't the English language borrow a great deal from Latin language.
>this is American education
Anglo-Saxon (academically called 'Old English') was influenced by Latin via Middle French after the Norman Conquest in 1066, though it has influences from a wide variety of languages. It is West Germanic, however, at its grammatical core, which is why it will never be classified as a Romance language.
English solidified into roughly its current state (Early Modern English) before the New World was even discovered.
Then why are you here on an american website, complaining about a american tv show? Are you just trying to imagine what it's like to get into space?
>believe it or not
i appreciate your support fakesanon
>you keep coming back for more butthurt

The only butthurt here is you Amerifats because the thread populated by you guys is a travesty filled with memes >>65021121 and literal redditors >>65020634
I have helped you try to weed out redditors before, Ro-anon. Sad to see you would take their side in the end.
"i'd ask her out then she'd tell me she already has a bf then i;d stare at her wistfully on set all the time then i'd ask her to hang out with me as "just friends" but she'd see right through it so she'd turn me down politely so i'd ask again several times over thenext few weeks then i'd steal her phone number off someone else's phone and start accidentally calling her to checkup on work but really i'd try to ask her out again then she'd have to avoid me so much at work she'd finally get a restraining order or get me fired. toodleoo"
-the english faggot in this thread
That's not what my Jewish teacher told me in high school. She lied to me than I guess. Why would she do that. She also told Me that Anastasia wasn't a cute child at the time of the great romanov revolution the way the movies show her to be but that Anastasia was more than likely to have been much older and in a sexual relationship with Rasputin.
>first time in a trek thread
This is self-evidently false considering this whole discussion started over the piteous state of your thread versus ours. But I suppose logic itself works differently in Lardistan
were broccoli, geordi, and kim the writers mocking the average trek fan? what was the point of their horrible awkwardness?
Ironic for a post-TFAer to be claiming other people are newfags. There was a time when this board was more than 'le meme herp derp shitpost because I go to /r/movies for serious discussion xD', and there was a time before DS9 invaded these threads. Hell, there was even a point where people didn't try to turn everything into a 'general'
That alone probably accounted for a lot of the older thread quality
Jolene Blalock quotes:
“I firmly believe in what Stephen Hawking says—that if we don’t get off this planet, we’re going to go berserk. We have to have more space. And maybe that’ll mean that we multiply and just destroy another planet. But you know what? That’s mankind. Get used to it. We’re not going to change.”
“I was an acid-head and a pot smoker. There was this one time some friends and I were ditching off campus at lunch. We didn’t make it back in time, and school officials found us smoking weed in a van around the corner. I was so stoned that when they started taking names and I said mine was April June. It didn’t even dawn on me that that was just two months put together.”
“Spock was the sex symbol. A lot of people think it was Kirk. But, no, it was really Spock.”
I'd come off as a gay friend who just wants to chill with her at lunch. Than we would hang out after work. We would end up going to XXX rated porno dvd and sex toy shops just for shits and giggles. Than after we would mess around with the sex toys while watching the dvd. I'd put the moves on her and she would slowly start to respond .
i've been coming to trek threads for 3 years, and there was never a glorious "golden age" where everyone wrote dissertations on the shows' production and writing in each post, you stupid retard. get off 4chan and go to memoryalpha if you want to feel superior.
>STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE actress Jolene Blalock has strong words about her character and the hierarchy of her show in the new issue of the UK's SFX Magazine. Blalock says she was extremely unhappy with much of her character's direction in season three.
>"You can't substitute tits and ass for good storytelling," she says bluntly. "You can have both, but you can't substitute one for the other, because the audience is not stupid. You can't just throw in frivolous, uncharacteristic... well, bull and think it's gonna help the ratings!"
>The magazine characterizes her feelings about a potential future for show as decidedly cold and asked her why a change like elevating Manny Coto to head of the writing staff wasn't done earlier. Blalock is not kind.
>"You have this head guy who's some kind of ancient old croaker with no concept of the real world outside, with his fine wine and his, er, crumpets. And what are ya gonna tell them? 'Give it up'? 'Go home, be with your wife, go play golf'? No - then ya got no job! A powerful job is your identity. Give that up, and who are you? What the hell are you gonna do with all that time? You can't tell people what to do anymore!"
Blalock knew that Berman and Braga turned Star Trek into shit.
She was too good for our franchise.
>B&B ruined Trek
When will this meme end?
DS9's existence is solely responsible for ruining Trek
i've read she was a big fan of TOS and bashed on TNG for the ending to ENT. thats all fine, but in the end, a good 75% of what her character does in ENT is posture sexually like a cat in heat or get hit on/in awkward situations with the male cast, so i feel conflicted about her in general.
Thats such a lovable name. Kinda like the name Toby.
>but in the end, a good 75% of what her character does in ENT is posture sexually like a cat in heat or get hit on/in awkward situations with the male cast
It's not like any of that was her decision.
Blame the writers, Berman and Braga.
Wait, is that a Picard... Pepe?! Hold on, I'm posting this to /r/StarTrek right now! Sorry for ruining the market, but I can't let something that rare go untapped
Even the people who worked on Voyager and Enterprise complain about how dumb they were. It's not a meme, it's a fact.
She was seventeen when she was murdered, but the rest is conjecture. Although not without basis since her mother was a nut and thought it was fine for him to be alone with her and her sisters from a young age.
Just read this upon googling a bit
And it says as much. Somewhat interesting read if you aren't already caught up on that whole story
Now that the Americunts have been driven out, let's get back to discussion.
What did you think of the handling of the Prime Directive post TOS?
In TOS it felt like a sensible utilitarian rule to cause the most benefit while causing the least pain, but later series seemed to develop it into an insidious dogma that caused more trouble than it resolved. Remember that time Picard was going to let an entire species be destroyed by a natural disaster, and only Worf's brother saved them? Or that time Janeway imprisoned Tom Paris for trying to save a different innocent species?
Remember that time when the Doctor put the moves on Seven of Nine
>there was a time before DS9 invaded these threads
I remember those days. If only I knew than what I know now I would have cherish every moment a little more.
You do realize Star Trek was created by an American and was largely written, directed, and produced by Americans, right?
Why are you so angry at America? I'm not going to insult you or your country -- it's banal and not for this board or a Trek thread. I'm just curious what your problem is.
articles like that just make me feel guilty i didnt watch ent when it originally aired.
>there was a time before DS9 was discussed in a Star Trek thread
The problem is it's fucking bait, which apparently some people see >>65021646 but everyone else just keeps replying. It would be like 4 AM when this 'Brit' started posting and they have already used Americanisms multiple times. I'm not even sure it's all one person
Same as the 'reddit ambassador' person, just the usual shitty bait
I always thought Wesley was cute and I think he did his "job" very hard ..very well on the show.
>75% of what her character does in ENT is posture sexually like a cat in heat
And god bless her for that .
Could be worse. He could be an Aussie.
I have no words for how reddit that post was.
He technically didn't die but I know how diehards feel about their canon.
In one of the rare instances, he was 'resurrected' or rather an explanation was given for the oddly bad writing in the episode that won't be named.
It's sci-fi. Death is only a small bump in the road.
More like 'It's fiction in general'
Funny how death is perhaps the most permanent thing in life, yet it gets retconned all the time in fiction. There's like a whole cottage industry of inventing ridiculous ways of 'bringing a character back'
I know but a lot of what the couple of books did was what a lot of people wanted to see, the Earth-Romulan War, quite a few other things in-between that to..
You get more of a federation feel with frayed coalition and what happens.
idk it was really awkward tho
why are main character deaths in startrek so shit
>why are main character deaths in startrek so shit
Sometimes literally so.
I think they ought to have opted for something a little less absolutist, as the Prime Directive as interpreted in later series seems to assume the worst of every non-warp capable species no matter the circumstances.
