ITT: Your ideal book adaptation
idk who would play Paul or the baron I don't know a whole lot of fat or young actors
I would want Von Trier to make a bunch of differently produced movies based on hemingway short stories. I'd want the casting do be done by whoever the Coen brothers have. Soundtrack would have to be made by Max Richter.
director shortlist: Joseph Kosinski, Mamoru Oshii, Kathryn Bigelow, Alex Proyas, David Lynch, or Denis Villenueve
producer shortlist: Ridley Scott, Gale Ann Hurd, Steven Spielberg, Raffaella de Laurentiis, Damon Lindelof (even though i hate him)
Jeff Cronenweth is the cinematographer
scored by Vangelis
i write the fucking screenplay. they give me feedback and i go back, but i write every draft.
Jared Leto as John Boone
Christian Bale as Frank Chalmers
Olga Kurylenko as Maya Toitovna
Noomi Rapace as Nadia Chernyshevski
Amy Adams as Ann Clayborne
Zhang Ziyi as Hiroko Ai
Jean Dujardin as Michel Duval
Ryan Gosling as Arkady Bogdanov
William Fichtner as Sax Russell
Gary Oldman as Vlad Taneev
Oscar Isaac as Desmond Hawkins
Jessica Chastain as Phyllis Boyle
budget would need to be in the $300-$400mil range, the movie would bomb and make back about $200mil but it would be hella fuckin epic and become a cult classic
I really really hate to pick leo, but he's the only actor that can play a childlike grown man
The only objectively correct answer.
The ages are so wrong here
Should be directed by PTA
DDL as Leto
PSH's ghost as the Baron
Joaquin Phoenix as Fenring
Oscar Isaac as Duncan
Javier Bardem as Stilgar
Some unknown as Paul
Possibly Meryl Streep as the Reverend Mother
I am not really sure with the director, alternative could be Von Trier, Lynch or really anyone that isnt complete hack.
Also these are pretty much the only characters that i remember something about so not sure if someone major is missing.
I was thinking that Shia might actually be decent fit for Artyom
And making this got me sad that we will never get Metro or Stalker
im shocked it hasn't been done yet. shocked. that post was half joking half serious, but if we wanted to be serious we could get it done for 80-120mil, tie certain big names to the main roles (probably boone, chalmers, toitovna) and get more obscure actors in most of the others, market it properly, guarantee it still takes 200+.
my only real fear is they butcher it.. it does have complexities that don't translate easily to film and the potential for a dune-tier disaster.
i think no one really wants to take the challenge and maybe even if someone did, the studios would be wary of supporting it with the budget it would need, and for good reason. oh well, we'll see
It would require a sense of tact and a deftness of touch, especially to deal with many of the supernatural elements without making it seem like a corny Clash of the Titans ripoff. At the very least I have absolute confidence in Sean Bean's competence in reprising the central character and basically carrying the entire movie with his charisma.
>implying Lynch can into political messages
Nah, Lynch is one of my favorites, but he wouldn't be a good choice at all. Kubrick would honestly have been a great choice, he could really drive the whole anti-objectivist point home.
I really don't know what living director could do it justice. Maybe PTA, but he makes his political messages much more subtle.
Would be pretty good, too bad PSH is dead can't think of anyone else atm to play Willi

I'm not picky, just make it have some emotion.
Long cut battle scenes would be nice to see done right.
I want Hayao Miyazaki to make a Hobbit movie.
My life is suffering.
Not neccessarily my 'ideal book' adaptation but I still think it would be neat to see a live version of this. Maybe they adapt it to target a more adult audience considering most of the people who have read it are now past 20.
It could work as two movies or as a tv mini series. The movies would leave out the third book, where as the tv mini series could leave it and also include more overall story.
There were more characters, but I basically got the main ones.
It's about a streetwise human who works as an assassin in an empire of 7-foot-tall elves. He gets caught up in other peoples' schemes and tries to come out on top.
agreed with Oscar Isaac as Duncan Idaho, he's got the ability to be really subtly intense and intimidating as seen in Ex Machina that would be great for the character, especially if they make the sequel
I think Mel is just the guy to provide an unbiased version of the Fuhrer's life.
Would it be possible to make a gritty, dialogue-heavy adaptation of The Brothers Karamazov, maybe in multiple parts? I want it to happen but I can't think of a director or envision actors.
Alan Rickman in Sense and Sensibility.
Wait, wasn't he in that?
