>hear praise about Rick and Morty
>"hmm i might check that out"
>Summer: "Oh my God!"
>Rick: "Mm, there is no God, Summer. You got to rip that band-aid off now. You'll thank me later."
Fucking really? First fucking episode and he shoves fedora shit in my face? Literally Reddit: the show. Fuck Reddit and Memey.
>keep hearing about it from my friends
>immediately know it's shit if they like it
>tip my fedora to them in my mind and think "fucking pleb shits, one day you will all be sorry"
>go home to make videos of me shooting fruits in the forest with my 9mm
It's a stoner show with stoner humor, overall it's actually not that bad but nowhere near as good as people make it out to be. Of course if you watch it with REDDIT REDDIT in mind then you're a fucking idiot who takes memes seriously.
>He gets as triggered as muslims about his religon.
>tfw only in America would a christfag be infuriated by a cartoon character scientist who travels to different galaxies and visits different species saying there is no god
You know Religion is a cult right?
Stop being a sheep, that's what THEY want.
I thought the joke was just Rick going out of his way to be an insensitive dick to his family. Like he never actually proves on screen there's no God, he just sort of assumes it because his life is shit despite the fact that he's really smart.
At least that's how I took it. It's a facet of the character, not something taken as canon for the show.
No but to understand that you'd have to think beyond what words are being thrown in your face. You see anything a character says is actually the moral of the story and a message the creators is trying to force upon you.
Rick is a scientist so above everyone else that he has a god complex.
Than that one scene:
>rick starts to fall to cetrain death
>starts saying : Oh god please do something
He is suppose to be a hippocrite.
You don't see God because you are in God, which is hell since God committed suicide.
First there was a singularity, then the singularity blew up. This was God killing itself because it was oh so lonely.
>Fedora meme means atheism is dumb! My friends on 4chan said so and they are cool mom!
How many years until the contrarian ship turns around again? Even reddit hates atheism these days.
Finally got around to watching season 2 of this and the only good episode was the one when they're trapped in the house with those aliens
The rest is shitty meme bait family guy tier humour
It actually pretty hilarious how fickle these interweb 'free thinkers' actually are. I saw people on this site openly admit that dropped being an atheist because of the meem a few years back.
its ironical memery which is why i like it
is equal to
>you got tricked
>Discussing cartoons on /tv/ and not /co/ where they belong
MODS MODS MODS
You know there are episodes where rick actually prays and meets the literal devil right
So you are not even a catholic? Have fun being some New wave bullshit were the old info from god was altered and altered to suit your personal tastes. YOU are the one going to hell mate.
>nice try Ahmed, don't you have German girls to molest or something?
It's just that these people want to be against whatever way the wind blows. Which is why you see so many /pol/-tier racists on this site now. 4chan used to be leftist as fuck before that was mainstream.
uh as opposed to atheist? what are you trying to say?
if you dont actively believe in a god right now, you're an atheist
pretty much all atheists are agnostic atheists, if thats what you mean
whoever started the fedora meme is god tier, literally everyone on 4chan of all places now pretends to believe in christian god and are good little christian boys just so they can post fedora memes or even just post the word fedora haha
Well you don't have boogly bogly which means you're going to die and live in pain in flugleberg for eternity
You can't say I'm wrong cause I have boogly bogly and can FEEL that I'm right
agnostic atheist is just a newatheist attempt to hide behind glorious based agnosticism.
agnostic and atheist are mutually exclusive.
Don't actively believe in what specifically about God?
This whole thing where either you're a fundamentalist Christian or fedoratheist meme needs to die. I don't even call myself an atheist, but technically I am, but very rarely even talk about it. There's plenty of middle-ground between the two extremes, and I can't stand either extreme.
Another meme that needs to die? Fucking Reddit being mentioned in every thread. That's not even a meme anymore, it's just cancer.
The first episode is shit unless you get really into the show later.
Basically the entire point is that Rick is a fucking asshole, and just because what he says is arguably true (at least within the universe) doesn't make him right to be the way he is.
Rick is supposed to be someone you hate/feel sorry for.
The show is more about the moment when he for a change tucks it and acts like a human being, than the moments when it is established that he barely is one.
I don't need to use google, anon. I also haven't made up any definition, nor even provided one.
It's pretty easy to make dumbfuck claims like "hurr belief versus knowledge". It's another thing to back them up through argument.
>but technically I am
Yeah, I don't own up to it at all!
It's not that. With enough probing you could get it out of me, but it's really just a philosophical thing. I just don't really see the need to label myself around something I don't believe in, which in my mind holds as much validity as any other being that's claimed to exist, it's like calling oneself an acentaurist or some shit. Yeah, technically I'm an acentaurist, but why would I call myself that? Nah. I don't live my life with any of those labels on my sleeve.
Ultimately it doesn't matter, but as I said, it's not something I really talk about or really think about anymore. You can believe what you like, as long as it's separate from the state, INCLUDING atheism. It's a private issue among individuals and organized groups.
You realise you can just repent when you're queuing at Saint Peter?
>Murder 400 people
>in Purgatory awaiting turn at pearly gates with Saint Peter
>I'm sorry for all my sins god
>You are forgiven my son
>get into heaven
Fucking fool proof, debate me.
Different Anon, but correct me if I'm wrong.
Agnostic: Believing that god - if there is one (or more) is unknowable, and unboservable.
Atheist: Believing that there exists no such thing as a god.
Wouldn't an Agnostic Atheist be someone who believes that there is no god, but also accept the fact that there is absolutely no way to prove that?
Granted, the way people use this to mean "I'm not sure" is wrong, but in the above sense, Agnostic Atheist should exist.
Prove i'm not actually sorry when I discover purgatory is real and i'm waiting for saint peter there?
I tell you now, I'd be sorry.
Imagine, atheist all your life, you die, you discover you were wrong and gods real, you saying you wouldn't be truly sorry?
Here's the OED definition for agnostic.
a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God.
>Commit absolute attrocities because god is dead, the universe is a harsh, unforgiving place with no sense of right or wrong
>Find out, that all along, the universe was infact the careful creation of a god
>Everything you heard in church was true
>The universe does have a moral compass, and you can't blame anyone for breaking that, but your own lack of vision
>Somehow you're not really sorry about it
At that point, you deserve hell
You wish motherfucker, unless your name is: Gabriel, Raphael or Michael i'll be outranking you in a better heaven as god's first soldier. (according to bibles; archangel names are better.)
>I'm a white Christian!
>I dont go to church, I dont follow Jesus, never read the bible, God doesnt exist, all priests are pedos and christians are retarded
Anything more pathetic than europeans?
>"Atheism is not a disbelief in gods or a denial of gods; it is a lack of belief in gods."
>"An agnostic is one who believes it impossible to know anything about God or about the creation of the universe and refrains from commitment to any religious doctrine"
On closer inspection, we find that
"it is a lack of belief in gods"
Is entirely compatible with
"refrains from commitment to any religious doctrine"
Bojack Horseman is a leagues better show written for actual adults and not 14 year old redditors. Fuck Rick and Morty, this is a Christian board. Don't like it? Well you can fuck right off to reddit
That seems like two things though, isn't it?
What's the word for the first half then?
It should be possible to believe god is unknowable and unobservable, and still believe in god, since it's literally part of the Christian faith. Should be true for atheists too.
If it's not Agnostic, then what word do you think I'm thinking of?
An Agnostic Atheist is the one that says there is 99% chance there is no god, but is ready to admit that he'd change his stance if some strong evidence of ones existence would come to light.
A Gnostic Atheist claims to "know" there is no possibility of a god.
An Agnostic Theist believes in god, but is ready to admit that he has little evidence of that fact outside of intuition and faith.
A Gnostic Theist "knows" god exists, might even claim to speak to or for him.
A "pure" agnostic just tends to be a fence sitting faggot.
It isn't two things. If you believe that the existence of nature of god are unknown and unknowable, then it follows that you claim neither belief nor disbelief in God.
The only atheists who can "lack belief" in god are those who haven't been confronted with the concept, such as infants and retards, or "natural" atheists.
There is no legitimate scholarly backing for this newatheist terminology.
There's already "soft", "negative", "implicit". Why can't atheists stop qualifying their dumb fucking belief system?
>Getting triggered by a cartoon
I didn't expect a higher caliber of man on 4chan
Nah, the last true christian died on a cross.
The Catholic church fathers are just revisionist opportunists that interpenetrate and cling to a dead religion to suit their need for power and relative comfort within a system that was meant as a mode of populace control. Protestants were the first step away from that, albeit a misguided one that had a lot of the old mingled with it.
le depressed wealthy horse who want to be loved meme
>a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God
You can claim neither faith or disbelief in theist principles all you want, but those terms actually ARE mutually exclusive.
If someone says "Do you believe in God or not" you can shove your fingers in your ears and say "I'm an agnostic, I believe it's impossible to know if he exists or not"
That doesn't mean you don't get to answer the question, it just confirms that you don't believe in God.
You either believe in something, or you don't believe in something.
Let's pretend there's a volcano on Mercury called Moot Mountain. You have no way of verifying whether or not it exists short of funding a space programme of your own and going there to find out.
You believe it's impossible currently to know whether or not Moon Mountain exists, but if I say "Moot Mountain exists" do you believe it, or do you not believe it?
Logically, you don't believe it, because you believe that I couldn't possibly know.
Knowledge != Belief
Knowledge is a prerequisite for belief. Hence the agnostic, lacking knowledge, cannot make a belief statement.
But hey feel free to take it up with the editors of the Oxford English Dictionary.
>There is no legitimate scholarly backing for this newatheist terminology.
It's been scholarly since 1903 at the very earliest and isn't newatheist terminology but actual scholarly language which they are more likely to rely on than the "oposing side". You have no idea what you are talking about.
Then I say I believe the existence and nature of God are unknown and unknowable, therefore I make no belief statement with regards to God.
God may exist, God may not exist. I don't know and can't know.
>Reddit and Memey
God bless this board
And these dubs
The entire notion that the human mind could at all truly comprehend an eternal, omnipotent, universal consciousness - let alone personify it and communicate with it is just beyond unbelievably ridiculous to me.
After being raised very religious and later growing out of it, most organised worship of a deity seems like a very human exercise in ego: always being the "chosen ones" or particularly special amongst their God's children. Not to mention this ego based platform inspires a more divided view of the world, I truly believe religion dissolves people's sense of personal responsibility for the state of their community at large, or even just the human race as a whole.
Organised religion was useful 2000 years ago to bring segregated and warring tribal groups into a more cohesive and functional society, through the use of easily grasped rules and childish parables. These days it only seems to serve as another means to segregate and factionize the human race.
Just my two cents.
Nah, I'm not about to spend any more time educating your ass because I like the thought of you failing at life. But google and read about Robert Flint if you wish to prove me wrong. I'm fucking off regardless.
You'd have to kill me because that's ridiculous. You're asking me to declare something that's unknowable and a subject beyond our scope of understanding or deducing with our limited ape brains.
You misunderstand the post, I think
> I don't know and can't know.
Knowledge != Belief
>therefore I make no belief statement with regards to God
You're just refusing to answer the question, when the simple truth is that you either qualify as believing in God, or not believing in God. You can't pick some third option of "I maybe believe in God". You either have two legs or you don't.
I believe 100% that I lack the ability to have knowledge on whether or not Moot Mountain exists on Mercury, but that doesn't prevent me from believing it exists.
However, I don't believe it exists. Before you entered this thread, you'd never even heard of Moot Mountain. Did you believe in Moot Mountain before you'd heard of it, regardless of whether you do now?
Obviously you didn't. You can't believe in the existence of something you're completely unaware of, ergo you -didn't believe in it-.
Lack of belief isn't just the opposite of belief, it's the ONLY OTHER OPTION.
You either believe in something, or you don't. Just like you have legs or you don't.
I know what you mean, OP. I was watching that Crazy Ex-Girlfriend show and in like the first ep. she attempts to pray and says "I don't pray often because I believe in science."
I'm not religious and this shit doesn't trigger me, but I cringe every time I hear one of these "jokes" in a TV show or film. It's lazy writing. It's like those stand-up jokes who make a standard "god's not real" joke and the whole audience hollers with laughter. It's an easy joke to make and has guaranteed laughs. You may as well be doing some Jeff Dunham shit. It's Big Bang Theory-level of humor.
And what makes it worse is I got to listen to fellow atheists talking about being victimized and how tough it is being an atheist. Shit's retarded. Most atheists have serious victim complex.
Christians can at least make a claim to being victims seeing as 70% of people killed for their faith in this age are Christians. Meanwhile some atheist in the US has to read "in god we trust" on a dollar bill and gets triggered about it. Embarrassing.
Again, knowledge is a prerequisite for belief. In order to accept a statement as true or valid I need to possess information about that statement, such as the statement itself.
I didn't even bother reading the rest of your post.
>mfw this whole thread
Quick! Someone make a thread on /co/!
>I didn't even bother reading the rest of your post.
Okay, I'll try and make it succinct for you.
>Again, knowledge is a prerequisite for belief.
Knowledge is not a prerequisite for the absence of belief. You don't believe in things you know nothing about. Do you believe in Ninlil, Sumerian Goddess of the air? Prior to hearing about her of course you didn't, because you lacked the prerequisite knowledge to form a statement confirming your belief in her existence, which is a lack of belief in that particular deity.
>Knowledge is not a prerequisite for the absence of belief.
Once you are confronted with a concept, you no longer are capable having an absence of belief.
The only atheists who lack belief in God are infants and retards or other "natural" atheists who haven't been confronted with the concept.
Self-proclaimed atheists are not absent of belief regarding God's existence.
Religion will (as far as we can see) be useful in regards to a civilization ALWAYS. We will either continue to slide into materialistic nihilism since from birth we have everything in excess necessary for survival, with more and more people growing depressed and useless, or the pendulum will swing and people in the West will start becoming more religious (or even just use the "I'm not religious but I'm spiritual" meme)
Specifically Christianity / Mormonism, and other very similar religions to Christianity and anything that basically isn't Islam, anything that strengthens family and society and brings people together for a higher purpose is a good thing in terms of keeping society more stable and keeping people ethically certain.
and before the fedoras start tipping I just want to say that I'm a deist who gets along with Christians and atheists, but cannot stand euphoric atheists and hypocritical Christians. Also Islam should be eradicated.
>Once you are confronted with a concept, you no longer are capable having an absence of belief.
You mean in the belief of the concept?
I mean, I believe the concept of God exists, but I don't really believe that a powerful silent supernatural being is responsible for the world as we know it
So do you believe Superman, the superhero, exists?
You're acquainted with him conceptually, so do you still have an absence of belief in him?
Or Vishnu or Thor for that matter?
I feel bad for being a Christian and on 4chan but really its the only site that can truly understand it sometimes. I cant explain it. I also am addicted to the anonymous format and have been since I jumped ship from SA in 2008
>Self-proclaimed atheists are not absent of belief regarding God's existence.
Rational Atheists are. You seem to tilt towards the irrational end.
I don't believe in God -- hence, I lack a belief in God -- for all I know, it could exist; I wouldn't make objective remarks towards its existence because it's nonsensical.
But, whatever helps you tip it, bro.
No of course I don't believe Superman exists.
Nor do I believe that Yahweh exists.
Nor Allah, Ahura Mazda, Brahma, Odin, or the Great Sky Father.
However I am intrigued by the demiurge, and by pantheistic solipsism, and by deism.
Like 99% of blacks believe in God. Even the ones that are out on the street gangbanging and selling drugs. I think you'll find that Christians didn't just appear on this board. Plenty of people already believed in a God even if their behavior on this board may not have always suggested it.
Also, I'm pretty sure distaste for liberal degeneracy preceded all this and a lot of channers just hold onto the tradition rather than God himself.
>who has been confronted with the concept and therefore cannot lack belief in the concept.
>Disbelief != lack of belief
Partially true m8, but while the terms are different, that doesn't mean that someone exposed to a concept can suddenly not lack belief in it.
I've been exposed to the concept that Hogwarts might secretly exist, but I still lack belief in the existence of Hogwarts.
I don't use reddit, I agree deist is sort of a faggy word though, I don't know what the fuck else to call myself, I believe in a higher power that is beyond current understanding.
>I've been exposed to the concept that Hogwarts might secretly exist, but I still lack belief in the existence of Hogwarts.
No you just disbelieve in the existence of Hogwarts. You have formed a belief regarding Hogwarts, namely that Hogwarts does not exist.
> Immediately upon confrontation with a concept, you form a belief about it.
If that's the case, agnosticism cannot exist.
Believing that God is unknowable does not shield you from a knowledge of the existence of God conceptually, wherein you must then form, according to yourselves, a belief in whether or not he exists, which is what I've been trying to say this whole time.
>4chan was anarchy which is as far right as you can go
But that's false. If you acknowledge "God" existing conceptually in your agnostic question, you aren't immune from the paradigm that a belief must be formed on confrontation of a concept just because you think it's impossible to know.
literally reddit who doesn't know anything about left vs right except when you use it to vilify things that hurt your fee fees
left = control, big government and oppression
right = less control, small government and freedom
absolute left is a dictatorship and an oppressed society and absolute right is no government with the people governing themselves, anarchy
4chan has always been anarchy. keep trying newfag
Hey guys this is a television and film discussion board not a religious discussion board i know it's confusing but at least post dank memes if you're going to shit up a thread alright fellas sheesh
What about the "concept" of the Christian God leads you to believe that?
I'm curious because a monotheistic, spatially/temporally simplistic, transcendent, self-existent concept of God (which Yahweh, Allah, and in many cases Brahma, is) is really the only concept of God that makes logical sense.
it's the same on every board. that's a good point though. people think anarchy is just wild fucking chaos when the reality is it's just an absence of government. i remember when we used to be able to have a little off topic posting on various boards and it really didn't hurt anyone and probably lightened the mood on the various boards. now the leftist totalitarian mods will close every thread that doesn't have to do with whatever they deem acceptable and people are a lot more hostile toward each other these days. shilling youtube celebs is perfectly acceptable though! get the fuck out of here
you're the tourist :^)
4chan has always the right
only the memes change year to year
I been here since daily cp threads, no-one calling for mods, sink threads etc etc I lurked for 5 years ffs.
Lighten up, you bitch. The show is absolutely ridiculous, and Rick is insane. It's pretty funny, for a modern cartoon. Give it a chance, this advice brought to you by a Christian whose butt isn't hurt.
>tfw 4chan was atheism fedora central when you first started browsing
What the fuck happened?
Did the Fedora meme really hit that hard?
>Oh, just you wait until you get to episode 3 or 4. Outright interracial cuckolding. That's when I reached my limit and reaffirmed my view that all of American media needs to burn.
Did you acknowledge the fact that the interracial cuckold is literally a joke, and the whole thing is played as Jerry (the typical leftist beta male father figure America is now growing up with, portrayed as an absolutely pathetic simpering shit) can't deal with it even though he's supposed to care about his parents happiness and despite the urging acceptance of his domineering career woman wife?
Have you considered the fact that acknowledging the existence of something to laugh at it and mock it doesn't mean you encourage and support it?
>4channers felt such a deep need to be cool that they reach for contrarianism in an attempt to look smart and cool to the common pleb by having the alternative viewpoints.
As soon as someone pointed out that atheism was no longer an alternative viewpoint, people started to stop caring about it. Then when they pointed out the kind of fedora-wearers sometimes associated with it, they realised that they weren't cool anymore, and had to swing hard in the opposite direction.
>absolute left is a dictatorship and an oppressed society and absolute right is no government with the people governing themselves
Do you actually have an extra chromosome, or is this actually how you think the political spectrum works?
Can confirm, came here during the last legs of Chanology, in late '08. Reddit didn't even become an insult until around 2011, when a shitload of them started to come here and shitting up the place. Before that time it was on the same vein as 9gag, a site that took our OC and flanderized it. If you said anything conservative you'd get told to fuck off and this especially included being religious.
It's only after reddit got big and Obama had replaced Bush 2 a couple years that contrarians switched over to being conservitards. Stormfags invading also didn't help. So with all these newfags who disliked the leftist popular attitude and wanting to distance themselves from reddit (not understanding anonymity means not using a role when posting) by making 4chan the opposite hugbox came a revisionist view of things. They hadn't been here that long and they kept seeing JEWS and FEDORA so they assumed that was always the case. These newfags only view things in 2 colors: leftist or conservative. 4chan is supposed to be beyond that, with the topics discussed on their own merits without the constraints of identity. The teens nowadays don't want that.
I came in after I had turned 18, so I don't have that kid mentality of remembering things differently that 15-year-olds do. I remember things objectively and they were about 180° the way they are now. Hell, people have Tom Cruise threads praising him, and anti-Cameron threads. Faggots don't even lurk anymore and don't get told to fuck off to /b/, fuck. Mobile posting was a mistake.
>what is raiding sites that take themselves too seriously
>what is protesting richfags
>what is Project Chanology
>what is hating Bush
Just cause you came in within the last couple years (if even that) doesn't make your views fact.
>there are people smart enough to use the Internet and post on a Tibetan numerology message board that ACTUALLY believe this shit
>there are people who ACTUALLY think it requires any intelligence at all to use the internet and post on 4chan
it might require a lot of tough brainpower for you, champ, but not for the rest of us.
You are correct in your assessment. It's pretty fedora and edgy, with a sprinkle of le random humor that is typical of adult swim shows. As an atheist I found it double cringey, but I plowed thru because I liked some parts of Community. Second season is where it becomes unwatchable.
It's funny how the fedora tippers will
Jump down your throat to tell you that there is no God but when you tell them they're going to hell they fucking flip their shit and can't handle it, maybe deep down they know it's true
>someone exists who disagrees with me
You christfags get butthurt over every little thing that doesn't go your way. Waah, someone made fun of muh jebus. Waah, I don't get to oppress gay people anymore. It's pretty pathetic. No better than feminists getting triggered by videogames.
You'd be better off pointing at all of Rick's negative character traits and calling it a consequence of his atheism or something. I mean it's bullshit, but it's better than just whining and memeing about it.
Sorry Anon, just like with Apatheism, you're not going to stop the so called "pure agnostics" by showing them alternative words to use for their beliefs. You just have to keep on drilling the actual definition of agnostic into their tiny heads until they finally get it.
You got it backwards.
>The structure of an imageboard inhibits censorship.
>The people most likely to get censored, congregate to an imageboard.
>Surprise surprise, people who are censored actually have insightful things to state.
When the "Redditors" were no longer censored, they had no need to hang in a Japanese Anime board.
Fedora is not the same as atheist, though it is commonly used to describe a certain type of atheist. You're grasping at one example and making assumptions about the op, when the show is littered with em. The entire Christmas episode is a build up to bloody chunks of giant naked Santa raining all over America. That's as fedora as it gets.
>Fedora is not the same as atheist
This isn't 2012 anymore, champ. They've become synonymous at this point, you cannot make an atheist argument without some retard going >tips fedora.
Words evolve over time, sport. The fedora meme had its inception on this very site, so I think it's okay for it to change to whatever the current users think it means. Butthurt used to mean anger over something small and unimportant, but now it just means anger in general, and I don't think there's anyone autistic enough to still get upset over its misuse anymore.
Has anyone else been playing Pocket Mortys? My favourite so far is the double morty because he has a little smile.
>you will never be miami rick
That literally does not matter in the context of this thread. Scientists tend to be atheists, therefore Rick was chosen to be an atheist during his character design. Can't you argue about how he's too pessimistic and will never feel God's love or something better than this?
>le atheism is a religion
No it isn't. Just because it has an -ism doesn't mean shit. It just means you don't believe in good. "A" meaning in absence of, "thiesm" meaning religion. It literally means no religion, you fucking retard.
Don't you have a Black Lives Matter protest to be attending somewhere? Clearly you won't stand for any sort of stereotype to propagate itself anywhere in the world, especially in a children's cartoon written by 4channers who smoke weed.
You can go ahead and look it up in multiple online dictionaries that show you it has always meant being "needlessly offended."
The only one underage here is you.
>I-I was just pretending to be retarded!
>hurr durr saemfag :^)
4chan was never politically correct, but it has mostly swung libertarian instead of any left or right bias. Whether that's left-libertarian or right-libertarian depends on the climate at the time.
When I started on /b/ back in 2006, people would call out Christianity and post Jesus porn, etc. constantly, and "Christfag" was a pretty common insult. 4chan drifting to the right is new, but also unsurprising; it's a reaction to the insane, smarmy bullshit coming from the left these days. But don't forget that during the Bush era, lots of people feared/hated the right for its creeping authoritarianism, in the same way they view the left now.
Generally, whenever a group gains enough power to leverage it for censorship, 4chan will flock to the opposite side. It tends to value free speech above all else; the rest is just swept in with the tide.
this IS hell you fucking idiot
