I used premiere pro to color correct the trailer. In color correction I just removed the ugly yellow cast.

I also used vibrance filter to make the image cleaner (removes the orange mist) light bleach bypass to darken the shadows and very light white colored bloom/glow effect to restore the "film" warmth.

You can experiment yourself and find your favorite setting.

I don't give a shit about the color correction debate. Movies are a series of stylistic choices. Neutral color correction would have been boring as shit. There's a giant sandstorm looming in the distance, why the fuck would the sky be vibrantly blue?

It's not about realism, senpai. It's just that it legit looks bad and is no better than putting a brown or grey filter over everything. I honestly don't believe I can think of examples of movies that look -better- thanks to tinting the fucking screen.
>>
>>64895557

>>
>>64895445
Have you been to the african desert? Or are you talking about like fucking Nevada or New Mexico or something?

A google search of the word DESERT is an endless series of orange-looking deserts. And the thing about the color correction isn't about whether or not there are deserts that look orange in Africa. The noticeable aspect of the color correction of the OG is that the sky looks green. Which, you know, nuclear apocalypse.

>>64895496
What part of "series of stylistic choices" don't you understand? If you're making a post-apocalyptic desert movie, you don't really want neutral color correction and a bright blue sky. It's a boring as shit choice to make and is a big lost opportunity to establish an unreal tone and setting. You know, nuclear apocalypse.

How can it be inherently bad? Do you think the piss filter in Double Life of Veronique is also inherently bad? What about the constant blue of Blade Runner? There's something called a visual style and in Mad Max it happened to be loud and saturated colors to amplify the madness.

Besides, why limit story telling to the dialogue?

At what point do things stop adding value?

If Immortan Joe was just called "Joe", is there value lost?
If he wore just a robe and not his plastic muscle armor, is there value lost?
What if all the cars were unmodified, is there value lost?

At what specific point is there value lost?
How much can you take away before something is lost?

I'm not asking facetiously.
I'm being literal.

>blade runner was lit blue, it wasn't artificially color graded blue.
Doesn't make any difference how they did, what matters is what is the final result on screen. Blade Runner was blue throughout using a consistent style (and there's no way a film like that wasn't color timed to enhance the colors), just like Double Life was shot with yellow and green filters to denote the dreamlike and twin aspect of the story, and just like Mad Max is oversaturated throughout to show how exaggerated the characters and story are.

>except the teal and orange just make it look garish as hell. The color grading in the movie is fucking nauseating.
It's probably nauseating because you associate it with Michael Bay films. That's your problem and not a criticism of the style.

are you the same faggot as before who was comparing the orange/teal shit to john ford paintings? Honestly you simply don't understand color composition.

A.note how there's basically no teal in that image. why? because if you wanted to something to contrast with orange you'd pick a cool deep blue. Teal however is one of the warmest shades of blue.

B. note the prominent use of black to contrast the bright colors. In fury road the color grading isn't being used to strengthen contrast, in fact the slathering of everything in orange and teal KILLS the contrast.

just look at the difference in contrast and how the colors actually pop more in the more naturalistic one than the color graded one, partly because the grading moves both the the darks and the lights closer to orange.

There's actually a biological reason why orange and blue look so great together. People saying otherwise are literally lying. The way the photoreceptor cells in our eyes work make those colors very appealing and even comforting to see together.

This has always been one of the most embarrassing examples of contrarianism. Even though we know most of the posters on this board are lying for attention with the vast majority of their "opinions," this is one case where we objectively know they're lying. They're stupid and ignorant so they don't realize it, which makes it even funnier.

You seem to be confused. There isn't necessarily "good" or "bad" choices being made. Mad Max was clearly shot well and they made a creative choice to fuck with teal. Almost like in Lawrence of Arabia they were trying to convey a sense of unmolested nature, and in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD they were trying to portray a fucking nuclear wasteland.

It would be BAD COLOR COMPOSITION TO MAKE MAD MAX LOOK LIKE LAWRENCE OF ARABIA. Fucking hell m8. Do you need someone to hold your hand?

I love the 2010 Hunter release. The Jungle and Night shots looks fantastic and the buff army dudes look like action figures. It's perfect. Also that shot is literally the only shot to bitch about.

I hate removing natural grain from movies, but this is the only movie I make an exception to. The 2008 Blu Ray just looks too shitty for me since they never did a proper restoration. 2010 is the way to go.

Mad Max Fury Road was just too loud, what with the cars smashing, the loud music and the explosions.

Why cant it be more like Lawrence of Arabia? That movie was also set in a desert but was much quieter and didn't offend my ears like Fury Road.

yes there are. Smothering your movie in teal/orange throwup colors is a bad decision. It's garish and ugly. If you want to do it for contrast then use use a deep blue because that's actually orange's complement, not teal.

>It would be BAD COLOR COMPOSITION TO MAKE MAD MAX LOOK LIKE LAWRENCE OF ARABIA.
No it really wouldn't. There are plenty of post-apocalyptic films that don't have throwup colors. Road Warrior looked the same way you idiot. A Boy and his Dog looked the same way. Where is your mind does something being post-apocalyptic mean that it requires horrendously garish over-the-top vomit-inducing color grading?

>If you want to do it for contrast then use use a deep blue because that's actually orange's complement, not teal.
Guess that's why you don't make the big bucks.
>There are plenty of post-apocalyptic films that don't have throwup colors. Road Warrior looked the same way you idiot.
Depends on which movie and which shot. Same with A Boy and his Dog. They totally fucked with color composition, but at a minimum because the thing about pre-digital filmmaking was you essentially get 2 shots to get color right. In the camera and during chemical development. Nobody could really fuck with color before digital, and few people did. Is it also "garish" that we don't literally splice film together anymore?
>Where is your mind does something being post-apocalyptic mean that it requires horrendously garish over-the-top vomit-inducing color grading?
There's that "garish" word again.

Yes because it's a fantastic shot. But i guess you like your ugly orange/teal shit more because you have no taste.

>Why? What does it matter if they do it in camera or in post?
It doesn't. Note how I said "poor" color grading. If something is naturally lit orange it looks completely different from if it's just shot normally and lazily have everything shifted closer to orange. It especially fucks with the contrast by bringing both the whites and blacks closer to orange.

>There's not really, it all depends on how the final image turns out. Don't tell me, you're also one of those film purists, right?

Yes and in the case of Fury Road the lazy color grading shows. A GOOD color grading job for a sort of alien-looking landscape would be The Martian. They color graded it in a way that made it look like it was natural colors in an unearthly setting. With fury road they just sort of lazily pushed everything toward orange to the point where even the War Boys who were supposed to be painted white had an orange tint.

Is that your entire argument? I'm better than you? It might work in your school debates next week, but not here. Take you cookie cutter film school aesthetics about what movies should and shouldn't look like with you.

>If something is naturally lit orange it looks completely different from if it's just shot normally and lazily have everything shifted closer to orange.
So again the argument comes back to realism. Just admit that anything that doesn't look like real life triggers you this hard that you start shitposting like a moron and ruin a fucking webm thread.

>A GOOD color grading job for a sort of alien-looking landscape would be The Martian. They color graded it in a way that made it look like it was natural colors in an unearthly setting.
Here's a true color picture of Mars. Does this look like the same planet in The Martian? Why don't you want realism now? How lazy of them to turn it alien in post instead of demonstrating that Mars doesn't look all that different from Earth. By the way, The Marian looked like any other movie set on Mars - "it's Mars, guys, the red planet, we have to make it red, because it's Mars, so you'll know it's Mars get it?"

No it comes down to visually appealing images. Bad color grading like Fury Road fucks with the contrast.

Again. I literally just told you in the post you replied to you fucking idiot. The Martian's color grading job made it look like natural colors in an Alien environment while Fury Road's lazy color grading did not. I never said it made it look exactly like Mars in real life.

>Pretty garish mistake you made.

But it didn't look natural at all. It looked like they had put an orange filter on the camera. Find me any place in the Solar System that has the exact same tone in the ground as well as the sky.

>What the hell are you even talking about? Seriously what? literally nobody is saying Fury Road is too desaturated you fucking idiot I'm saying the exact opposite.

Knew after I hit enter that I wasn't accurate enough to account for the sperg factor. The look of the film is that the characters and most colors absolutely are desaturated and the environmental colors of ORANGE and TEAL are over-saturated.

>The challenge became how to get that rich graphic look out of essentially two colours: sandy beige and blue sky. All the art direction and costume design specifically put everyone in very neutral tones, removing saturated colours from the palette. It was difficult to push the image to appear vibrant without it looking ‘cheap’, and often we found that the key was to have a rich sky to contrast against the warmth of the sand and the characters.

>was this not you?
Other guy.

>>64900217
>No it comes down to visually appealing images.
Mad Max nominated for Academy Award: Cinematography.
>Bad color grading like Fury Road fucks with the contrast.
Mad Max nominated for Academy Award: Best Visual Effects. Best Film Editing.

>seriously? You're trying to make some point about how i used the word "garish" when i did it because highly saturated orange and teal is in fact a good example of garish coloring. Garish as in "crudely or tastelessly colorful"

Setting of the film is literally like 90% Orangey blonde sand and Blue Sky. It's "garish" when everything in a fucking cityscape is Blue and Teal, it's "the fucking setting" when it's in the middle of the african desert.

And once again. THE ENTIRE FUCKING MOVIE IS GARISH.
