It's a mediocre meme novie and /tv/ convinced you to watch it..
>>64702043
Are there actually people who stop movies to shitpost on /tv/.
I'm 24 years in. When does it get fun?
>>64702043
>When does it gets fun?
When you stop watching and do something fun instead.
>u will never connect with a father figure in a foreign land and have a beautiful romance
It's fun from the opening shot m8
One of the comfiest movies of all time.
>>64702043
you did it wrong. you should have said
>i just marathoned the first 30 minutes of pic related and i hate it. convince me to trudge through the rest, /tv/
>>64702216
That's what I always do.
>>64702043
It doesnt get good, if you really want to know

in the end he says that will leave but comes back
It doesn't. It's a shitty student-film that people mistake for a good movie because the director's daddy is Francis Coppola and gave her the funding to film in Japan and hire Bill Murray.
>>64703946
>this thinly veiled misogyny
back to reddit please, my man.
I pretty much hated it the first time I saw it and had no idea why my friend considered it one of his favorite movies. Then I rewatched it a few years later and loved it.
>>64704585
Same. I was a teen when I first saw it. Bored the hell out of me. Now whenever I need some feels or comfies, I just watch this.
It's not supposed to be fun.
It's more of depressing and feels kind of movie.

Bill Murray is great in Lost in Translation, and if someone would cut the movie to just be about him and his interactions with the Japanese, it would be a great short movie. The plot involving ScarJo is just terrible and drags the movie down.
>>64703946
Sofia >>> Francis desu
>>64702334
what are u a faggot or something?
Never, Dylan. Nothing really sticks to the mind in this shallow attempt at portraying "alienation." Yes, Bill Murray is cool and witty, Scarlett Johansson is gorgeous, the music is good and Tokyo looks otherworldly, but you can't hang your movie on these surface pleasures without any real ideas or vision and have it succeed as much more than banal eye candy; designer alienation, ennui chic™.
When it comes to painting such themes with actual emotional or intellectual heft, let's just say that Coppola is no Antonioni or Kar-Wai (two of her self-professed influences). This is a superficially pretty but achingly dull and empty film with nothing of substance to express, and I can only suppose its mass appeal rests largely on the shimmering city, mediocre songs and lead actors it captures, all of which impart a certain built-in pathos mostly separate from the text of the film itself.
This is ITMFL for plebs. Nobody actually likes this film, they just like to be seen liking it.
>>64705419
>this faggot
francis has been shit in the last 30 years but his daughter never came close to achieving as much as he did
>>64705480
Do you have to embarrass yourself by exposing your shit taste for everyone to see?
Lost in Translation is top 10 movie material and someone making le indie gook rip-off that no one has seen doesn't change that.
>>64705480
Nah I just like it.
>>64702043
it's not supposed to be fun. You're supposed to reflect like meditation, ya know?

absolutely shit movie
i watched it last week after /tv/ said it was good but my god if you like this movie you have some godawful shit taste
how can you even root for 2 people who both cheat on their fucking partner theyre married to?
>>64705591
>Lost in Translation is top 10 movie material and someone making le indie gook rip-off that no one has seen doesn't change that.
LOL
>>64705484
Mass appeal isn't inherently commendable, anon. Sofia's films are particular and speak very strongly to certain people, while her father basically made engaging, but ultimately bland-as-grits blockbusters.
>>64705769
>how can you even root for
aaaaand opinion completely disregarded

It's not fun, it's cozy
> TFW you will never be Scarjo exploring the wonders of Japan with Bill Murray.

why?
>>64705970
>cozy
As you can see it is praised by the cinematically illiterate
>>64705974
Because you share an eight-year-old's approach to characters in fiction.
>>64705769
That's normal for residents of United States of Cückland.
>>64706161
Explain why then. What is wrong with wanting to relate or root for a character in a movie you are watching? How the fuck is this an 8-year mentality?
How do you experience movies then? Straightly objectively? Please gimme a break
>>64706247
There's a major difference between simply relating to a character and rooting for them. Your post seemed to imply that unlikeable/morally objectionable--by your subjective criteria--characters = poor characters, which would be a silly mentality even for an eight-year-old. If you personally found the characters entirely unrelatable and for that reason found yourself unable to engage on an emotional level, I get that, but that's not how your post read to me.If I'm jumping to conclusions I apologize for my patronizing post.

i dont like the movie because the characters are awful and i dont see how it would be likable in any way unless you like the movie because the characters are awful people

nop
I have about £5,000 saved to go on a two week trip to Japan. I will be staying in the Park Hyatt. It may or may not be inspired by this film.
>>64706662
I was right initially, it seems. If you would at least try to make an argument beyond "I didn't like it cause I didn't like it" I would take it seriously, but if it simply wasn't your kind of thing, I will let you be you.

They don't really cheat. They kiss on the lips once (not even french) before he leaves. All the time they are shown spending together is as friends because their significant others are busy and they're lonely. Married people can have friendships and in every relationship/marriage there are temptations and feelings for other people that arise. I think they both realize and have self control.
What do y'all think he whispers to her before he leaves though?
